A great little independent with amazing food! My go to place every week as the staff are so friendly and welcoming. I’ll keep coming back every time

We have been going to this restaurant over the last 7 years that we have been going to Gloucester. When we first went back in 2018?this restaurant had a bbq menu. Over the years it has tamed this theme down and become a more conventional dining experience. It is very clean and the staff are friendly. The food is great and it is well worth a visit.

The location is good and the riverside seating is a pleasant spot. The waiter was friendly and there ends the good news. There were four of us and we only wanted one main each, no starters or desserts. Our order, off the mains menu, was two chicken and chorizo skillets = £13.50, one signature burger = £12.50 and one chicken Caesar salad = £17.00. Total £56.50. When the food arrived it was the size of a starter on the kids menu. The small burger has collapsed off the skewer and was strewn on the plate, the salad was mainly a bowl of lettuce, the croutons tasted stale and the chicken was dry. As for the chicken and chorizo skillets apart from being a tiny portion with no sides or veg the chicken was dry and over powered by tomato sauce with a bit of cheese topping. No taste of oregano whatsoever. Outrageous prices for very poor food. Even at half that price it would be a rip off. Never again. Avoid.

We went for bottomless brunch, it's the best brunch we've all had for a long time! I would recommend this bottomless brunch to anyone. Super fast drinks and food. I would recommend this over the popular 'TB' in Cheltenham! Angelo our waiter had great customer service! Lots of food and drink options for the bottomless, many other places have limited options. Once we finished we finished our drinks outside next to the water which was lovely. Thanks guys, I'd definitely return for this brunch!

Chose here to celebrate with friends. Warm, friendly welcome and the staff were exemplary throughout; attentive, generous and kind. Opted for the Bottomless Brunch, which was two courses. Lots of options inc. veggie/vegan and GF. The food was delicious, fresh and solid sized portions. The drinks flowed aplenty and they weren't shy with the measures. We even received a complimentary bottle of fizz! DEFINITELY going to return soon. Thanks for a lovely afternoon.

After browsing all the eateries on the docks, we decided on Coal Kitchen. We had the chicken schnitzel burger and the chicken pitta. The food was lovely, it tasted fresh and flavoursome. The salad was fresh and crispy. Service was excellent, friendly and speedy. Would visit again.

Went for bottomless brunch on a Saturday afternoon with 3 friends. The girls looked after us from the minute we arrived and we were never looking for them to order our next drink - they were always there to take our order so that we were never without. Food was tasty with a small starter then decent sized main meal. Beautiful location down by Gloucester Quays. Excellent value and fantastic service, would definitely recommend.

Great atmosphere, prompt service, staff were lovely and the food and drinks were delicious 😁 the Truffle Ricotta is to die for!

We were staying nearby, decided to visit the quays for a bit of a walk and some food. The quays are made up of your typical fast food places with pre fab food. We opted for the Coal kitchen. (Menu looked great) lovely spot, we managed to get a table right on the water front. Gorgeous sunny day. Greeted by friendly staff. Drinks came out straight away. We had the squid for starter (really nice, the breadcrumbs very tasty, crisp and fresh, not oily. We also had some really nice fresh Garlic flat bread. For main I took the recommendation of the pork chop (local meat) it was cooked to perfection, it was also a very good size. The pepper corn sauce well recommended. My girlfriend had the beef skewers cook medium well (ruined as she likes it) they were also very delicious. There was a slight wait for the food, but this really went unnoticed as we were enjoying our time. For dessert a nice portion of churros. Just perfect. We definitely will retun if we come back to Gloucester. Thank you very much for a lovely time

Signature burger was more gristle than meat. The accompanying bacon was 3/4 fat than meat. The roast potatoes were beyond basic. Chicken wings cooked but anemic coating. Questionable how prepared. Chicken skewer tasty. Value for money. Nope. Toilets... very far from being looked after. Staff friendly. Tough times for eateries. However for £80 forc a lunch time. Return? Nope!!!

Lovely venue and location, great service and food was fantastic!! Great flavors small criticism the chicken shish was a bit 'skinny'!! Bit more chicken or a small side of fries or rice would have topped it wonderfully!! The bonus aspect was it allowed room for one of the best apple pies going!! Will be back!

Such a shame because this place could be really good - the interior is cosy and inviting, and the staff are pleasant and friendly but the food is terrible! Not even necessarily blaming the chefs because it is obviously poor quality meat that they have to work with. My husband had the lamb shoulder which was grey, fatty and had some weird jelly within in. He then swapped it for a steak which was once again fatty and stringy. By this time we just gave up and just took it home for our dogs! My chicken supreme was just a chicken portion and potatoes - was expecting it to at least have a bit of veg/salad.

The food was tasty and reasonable size portions. Service was what I would expect and given a nice table but it was not that busty. Nice atmosphere in the restaurant. The thing which spoilt the experience was the 10% service charge added on the bill at the end. If it stated it on the menu it was very small and not noticeable. While the service was what you expect it was not worth a tip of £8!

I’ve been here twice now. It’s one of my favourite places to eat in the area. Highly recommend - great service, great food.

We had not booked and it was a busy Friday evening, but the manager made a real effort to find us a table. The atmosphere was good and our waitress was very helpful and friendly. We enjoyed a lovely meal and felt our custom was appreciated and valued.

The visit started off well. The guy who seated us, seemingly the manager, was great. The people skills were there and he helped my colleague with their gluten-free options with a thorough run through of the menu. Very happy, and the menu looks good. Our server arrived, and when asked ‘what size’ the cokes on draft are, he proceeds to estimate the size of the glass with his hands (which well exceeds even a Johnny Depp mega pint). On arrival, it turns out the size was what seems like 330ml, and there was a mix-up with our cokes/diet cokes which the server had to sort, before returning to our tables with two wet glasses, which left our table in a state as it was on a slight slope. Ok, no bother, it’s not a big deal. The wait for the food was not long, especially since we were glad the food seemed home-cooked, according to the menu. Considering we paid £11.50 each for our meals, we were very happy with that! Until it arrived. It is, no joke, the saddest plate I have ever seen. We were so shocked, that we were just staring at our plates for a minute… … only to realise that we had not been given cutlery, and no server was around. For a long while. Finally, we got up and walked over to a station and grabbed it ourselves. Paying up was just a painful experience, when we asked for two itemised receipts. We got two copies, and I had to explain that they need to be split in half so we can claim it back. Off he went again, a second time. For a long while. Again. I work in Michelin dining, and I always hesitate leaving reviews of substandard visits. It’s unnecessary, and especially when you get what you pay for. This, however, was sadly just a waste of money, as we left wishing we had just gone Spoons. Sorry guys, better luck next time!

Booked Coal Kitchen for my birthday meal. On arriving had a very warm friendly welcome by our waitress, who couldn't do enough for us. When she realised it was my birthday she presented me with a glass of fizz. which was very thoughtful of her . Once our order was taken, drinks came fairly quick and the food not long after. We found the standard of food was very good with hot chips and good portion sizes . All 6 of us enjoyed our visit to Coal Kitchen and would be only to happy to visit again when in Gloucester

We went here twice over the weekend - and absolutely loved it! Lovely service, great drinks, tasty snacks ( hummus and sweet potato fries) and lush location. Both times we had our dog with us, and he was welcomed and treated as fabulously as we were. Thank you very much

Been to this establishment a few times and keep coming back every time we visit Gloucester Quays. Great food at value for money prices at a lovely setting by the water. Staff are always attentive and cannot do enough for the customer. See you again Coal Kitchen.

We visited Saturday early afternoon but it wasn't very busy. Unfortunately we were seated next to a group enjoying countless drinks (bottomless brunch?) and they were loud and, as the drink flowed so did the language! When there are lots of empty tables, try to keep the noisy ones separate! The food was nice but not quite to the same standard as our previous visits. The skewers used to hang and have a greater variety on them. We also had to wait a long time for our desserts.

The service was good: the waitress was very kind and nice. The food was terrible. Very low quality meat. We took tacos and were not fresh at all… the meat from the burgers was over cooked and very poor quality. My husband took a steak and asked for rare but came over cooked and they kindly change it but was all chewy and very bad quality. Same for the taste of old oil on the fries…

Have not been to Gloucester for years and never eaten at this restaurant before. We both enjoyed our beef skewers and the chocolate fondant dessert was delicious; but what struck us was how friendly the staff were.

My wife and I ate here tonight and to be honest I feel I was robbed by paying for the food. Starters were ok ish but we both had lamb for main and it was terrible. Baby roast potatoes undercooked, lamb dry and generally just awful. Staff were so casually dressed and really not interested in asking for food feedback. We left at least half of our mains, and the answer was, would you like to see the dessert menu - upselling gone mad!! Won’t be back, ever!!
