After a long walk and, finding ourselves stranded one hot Monday afternoon outside the Coach and Horses, with no buses back for 3 hours and little chance of arranging a taxi we were “rescued” by Tina, who came to our aid. Not only did she arrange for a local taxi contact of hers to pick us up to go back to Clovelly but, despite the fact the pub was closed on Mondays, she opened the bar especially for us to have some refreshment before being picked up. What a lovely lady and we have no doubt when we are next down that way we will be stopping by to catch up.

booked in on Thursday 6th July 2023,we were greeted by early entry and a great lady, who went out of her way to help us and the room was faultless. I did not have to carry case, etc upstairs and taxi was laid on, car repaired and we went to enjoy ourselves. the cost was excellent and close to the coast and Bideford and Barnstable close by. One of the best i have ever stayed in.thankyou Tina for your great hospitality

Friday nights are Fish and chips at the Coach and Horses (17.00 to 19.00) Cooked to order and piping hot! Father in law was on holiday from USA and missed fish and chips so we've toured North Devon trying fish and chips and his (and our) verdict is that these were the best.

Vesited the Coach and Horses during a stay in Clovelly. We walked in on a Saturday afternoon and the locals had the horse racing and football results on the TV. This was perfect for a nice relaxing afternoon mixing in with the locals, my wife and I had a really enjoyable time. The beer was good and fresh, the setting was clean and tidy, the locals were really friendly and I would highly recommend a visit if your in the area. We will definitely be going back again when we are in the area.

I stopped here whilst visiting my grandparents. Landlady Tina was lovely and left me to my own devises (which was perfect as I literally just needed someone to sleep) breakfast was kind of non existant really unless you ask for it the previous day. So I’d advise you take something with you (pot porridge was perfect) Walls are paper thin so can hear every little noise from other visitors inc snoring 😂. All that said it suited my purpose but would reconsider if my husband was to make the trip next time. All in all if you need a base this b&b is perfect if your wanting to make more of a holiday maybe look abit closer to Bideford, especially because the pub doesn’t serve food and quite a journey to the nearest restaurant.

The Coach & Horses is a proper pub with an excellent annex providing quality accommodation at a reasonable price. The en-suite room was clean, spacious & comfortable with a handy continental breakfast included. Although the pub does not provide food, the lovely landlady Tina serves excellent Real Ale in the bar. The locals are friendly & the atmosphere convivial. Much to recommend!

Me and my partner popped in to the coach and horses during a SW coast path walk. Even though they were fully booked so couldn’t provide us with a room, Tina was really helpful and called round to a few places for us and told us of a great camping spot nearby. We had some drinks and a couple of pizzas which were very welcome after a long day. Both Tina and Andy were really friendly and we had a lovely chat with them whilst we waited for our food. Before going in, we felt really tired and deflated after a long day of walking, but after leaving the coach and horses we felt buoyed up, well fed and looking forward to The rest of our walk. We had a great night camping out and thank Tina and Andy for their hospitality and advice!

I did feel for Tina and Andy as starting a new venture just before lockdown must have been a challenge! It doesn't help when people try to use their parking spaces so they can go for a walk and then leave unpleasant reviews! Anyway, my wife and I enjoyed our short stay at the Coach & Horses! Especially enjoyed the pub which is well supported by the locals. We even met Trevor who apparently was once a cricket legend :)

I stayed in this Inn midweek for a single night in August 2020. The owners were welcoming and there was a parking space reserved for the room by default. If you don't need a parking space it might be worth telling them so another customer can use it. The pub atmosphere itself was peaceful with a mixture of guests and locals chatting quietly. The type of country pub you where you can talk with your friends over a pint and not need to shout over some loud booming music. Perfect for a well earned post-walk pint - dog friendly too! For food they served a light lunch from 12:00 to 20:00. Think more along the lines of panninis, chips, sandwiches as opposed to full blown heavy cooked meals. This review applies to August 2020 and they may change in the future (phone and ask!). The pannini itself was great - I'm sure any visiting Italians would baulk at the idea of replacing salami with an English sausage! - and the additional items on the plate were of good quality. The room itself was adequate and the hosts clearly put effort into making the rooms look nice. The big fluffy decorative pillows arranged on the bed and pictures on the walls demonstrated this. Toilets for the pub (you have one in the room anyway) are outside and free for walkers to use. It's a nice touch because no doubt many hikers along the coastal path have enquired about using the loo over many years! COVID measures were in place - reminders, sanitisers, marked floor areas and large plastic screens for the bar. We were asked to put our linen in a special provided bright pink plastic bag for staff safety so it could get sent off and properly disinfected. I can see the pub getting busy at the weekends with limited space inside, but the owners strike me as sensible enough to follow COVID guidelines for the safety of their customers, as opposed to the temptation of additional revenue in these hard times. Overall it's what I would classify as a great traditional inn - good (light) food, location (for walking and Peppercombe beach), welcoming staff, and comfy bed.

Turned up to this pub for a drink and a dog walk. 4 of the group were going to stay in the pub whilst the other 3 walked. As we got out the car the rude, obnoxious landlord couldn’t get out the pub quick enough to ask if we were going for a walk. When we replied yes he got in my dads face and went “NO” as he didn’t want our car in the car park whilst some of us walked! Even when we tried to explain people would be in the pub for the duration he still refused. The way the pub industry is going these days I can’t believe any landlord would have the audacity to turn down custom! Looking at the state of the pub from the outside they deffinately shouldn’t be turning down the passing trade as it was tired, run down and tatty. The thatched inn less than a mile down the road has a great car park and all walkers are welcome!

Would not recommend!!!!!! We planned for 4 of our party to go in to the pub while 3 others took the dogs for a quick walk then were going to join us but the owner/landlord was incredibly rude and refused to let us park in the car park. He made it clear he didn’t want our custom and was unwilling to listen to our intentions . I Have never experienced rudeness like it especially as the pub itself seemed very run down and decrepit with outside toilets that looked more appealing than the pub itself. I would have thought they would be glad of business especially in today’s climate of pubs closing. Would avoid at all cost!!!! We went on to enjoy a long afternoon in the hoop inn where they seemed more than happy to accommodate us. Avoid!!!!!!

We stayed for a long weekend and had a great time. Tina and Andy were great hosts and nothing was too much trouble. We had evening meal on two occasions and a cooked breakfast one morning, all of which were delicious. We also enjoyed Elvis singing in the pub on Friday evening which created a great atmosphere. The locals were all very welcoming and friendly. We went to Clovelly and spent a lovely afternoon looking around despite the rain. Definitely wear some comfortable shoes,It’s well worth a visit. It was lovely to return to the pub for coffee and cookies to warm us up. The accommodation is spotlessly clean and everything you need is there. We would not hesitate in recommending the Coach and Horses to everyone. We stayed in Bincleves one of the holiday cottages next to the pub.

Staying nearby for a few days I called into this pub in need of good and rest. The landlady prepared some homemade soup and bread despite my arrival outside food hours. The soup and then crumble to follow was great. Consequently I returned the next day and had the choice of a full menu. Great food again and some really good Beaujolais were offered & consumed. I stayed for ages and had a lovely time with locals and staff. Can not fault this real pub!!

On a recent holiday with my children to Bideford, we happened upon this lovely little pub. Often when walking into a pub full of locals, you are initially made to feel ill at ease. Not so here. The lovely landlady, Tina and the locals made us feel extremely welcome. A beautifully quaint traditional pub welcoming of children and dogs. We returned the following day for a Sunday roast. The lamb was superb and they were keen (and successful) in pandering to the fussiness of a 7 year old. A delightful place that we would highly recommend and look forward to returning to asap.

We fell into this pub after undertaking an epic walk in need of liquid refreshment. it's a lovely quirky pub, and the landlady and landlord were so friendly. We had left our car at the beginning of the walk so needed to catch a bus back to the car. The landlady overheard this conversation then offered to drive us back to our car, for which we were very grateful. We didn't eat, however, the menu was tempting and food looked very good. We will be returning for a meal in the very near future, and also for some of their wonderful hospitality.
