We had a lovely meal a while back so popped in for a drink and food on a Wednesday evening. The staff behind the bar were welcoming and chatty. The food was a massive let down after our previous experience. Watery microwaved mass produced 'fodder'. It filled a hole, but won no prizes for quality or presentation.

We had booked this hotel as we were going to a wedding nearby. We were made extremely welcome and as we are not as young as we were had help to get our cases upstairs. We stayed two nights - had to cancel last year and we moved the booking. We decided to get a taxi to the venue Friday and Saturday and again the driver James was so nice and helpful. Our room was spotless, the Welsh breakfast super and the whole stay was great. It is actually built on a Roman. Site and was interesting to hear the. History. Would definitely recommend - the pub had been upgraded and new indoor seating with a lovely vibe.

Having visited Caerwent to see the Roman ruins, the pull of the fine pub garden was enough for us to stay for our tea. Using an on-line booking app, the ordering process was simple and easy to use. There was a slightly longer wait than expected for our food to arrive but on such a lovely afternoon there were a lot of other customers who'd had the same idea, so no surprise with the delay. Once arrived, you could tell the pub was well geared up for outside dining and all felt very organised. The food was basic, standard pub grub which we all enjoyed but we did all feel the skinny chips were just a little too hard - I had to eat them carefully as my bad teeth tend to break on anything hard!

Called in for lunch - faggots were not very flavorsome, the two curries (tikka and korma) were OK but not really properly spiced, scampi OK but accompanying chips were not very hot. Only one of us bothered with a dessert - the mixed berry Eton mess which was broken meringue, cream with an odd grainy texture, and about 5 bits of berries dotted on it, so not very good. A good range of children's play apparatus in the garden outside but a couple of them were broken/faulty and require repair.

I travel a lot and first impression quite nice, although bin in room not emptied and half empty shower cream bottle in shower. Food very bland and when I objected to paying for rancid food I didn't eat the attitude I received from the landlord was off the scale, I've never in my life come across anyone as rude and unprofessional. Give this one a miss, unless you have no taste buds and enjoy bland food. The one point in its favour, biscuits and hot chocolate in the room.

Lovely village pub, warm and welcoming. Friendly and very attentive staff. A nice choice of three course for a Sunday lunch. I can honestly say one of the best pub Sunday I’ve ever had. I highly recommend.

Popped into the coach and horses tonight for a nice quiet chilled beer with my Lovely wife , as I stood by the bar and spoke with barmaid , she smiled and said she would be back shortly , off she went upstairs , and I stood patiently ! And I waited and I waited and I waited , so I went t up stairs to ask someone who was serving up stairs was any body serving down stairs , they should be they said - went back down and still no one serving - waited a further 9 minutes 19 minute in total . So we left after waisting our time - last time I go there - my advice if u want a beer don’t go here as you won’t get served ,

I wanted to like this pub very much as it had a wonderful kids play ground when we pulled into the car park but the problems started when booking. On trip advisor it states you can book online but you can’t as when I did it booked me into another pub in Devon. Anyway I realised and called to book instead. I told them of my online booking experience and they confirmed they do not do online booking. When I called to book we were not told it was a 2 or 3 course meal only as if I had known we wouldn’t have booked as our youngest ( 11 months) can’t really be patient that long, anyway I’ll come back to why that was disappointing after discussing the food. My husband described it as school dinner food. We had 2 adult roast pork and a child chicken Sunday lunch. All the veg was over cooked and bland and the presentation was lacking. The meal was ok but also over cooked. After we had finished we wanted to go as our youngest was getting fidgety and tearful so didn’t want to hang around for dessert. When my husband asked for the bill we were told that they would have to charge us for 2 courses but were offered to take away a dessert. As our child was upset we didn’t really want to hang around and as we hadn’t enjoyed the main course didn’t really want to try a dessert. It cost £45 the most expensive Sunday lunch we have had in a long time and while I acknowledge that it was Mother’s Day and different rules were applied I feel that was far too much money for what we actually received. I want to end on a good point however and that is the staff were lovely, very attentive and accommodating and even though we disliked the food it came promptly.

The top chef has left the building. The relaunch of the pub there was a very good chef in kitchen. Unfortunately he has gone and now the food is without quality and finesse.

Wonderful food, steaks in particular were outstanding, great service with a smile, especially from the 2 sisters behind the bar. Then had drinks afterwards in the beautiful gardens. All at a very reasonable price, puts other local restaurants to shame. Would highly recommend 5 star+++

Visiting with three adults and two children for a light lunch and was disappointed by the poor customer service. We were sat in the marquee, which was open to the garden. The garden being rather blustery at that time and the benches being trickier for my elderly mother in law to sit on.

Staff are friendly and there is a good selection of real ales and cider on draught. Quite an extensive menu with both bar snacks, restaurant and childrens menus. Very large garden situated by the Roman wall with a large selection of activities for children. Large parking area and situated within the Roman walls so convenient for visiting the Roman remains.Accomadation is available but I have not used it as it is my local pub.

The pub had a great idea for the festive school holidays an ice rink! We had a wonderful time with friends at the ice rink in the pub garden and then lunch. We started off ice-skating 2 adults and 4 children 3 of which were under 5. We also had an adult taking pictures and laughing at us all. The penguins they had were great for the children and really helped as we weren't 1-1 with the smalls. They really enjoyed themselves and over the hour got quite confident with them or going round the edge on their own. After an hour of fun we went in for lunch. Good children's menu choices and they even supply colouring books and crayons to use whilst we were waiting for the food to come. The portions are ample for our bunch and my jacket spud really hit the spot. The adult menu has a good selection of meat, fish and veggie mains and light bites. Also deals on certain options. All in all we are very lucky to have such a great pub nearby.

My partner and I came here to check out the Detroit pizza and cocktails. The service was fast and super friendly, plus they catered for my nut allergy really well. Being dog friendly, we took out 12 yo labrador Alffi who had fun, plus and Utterly Mutterly ice-cream! We had the 1/2 and 1/2 Detroit pizza, a mix of Bloody Mary and the porcini mushrooms. It was DELISH, the portion was also massive meaning we took half home for tea, making it 2 meals in 1. My partner had the Detroit IPA which was hoppy and fresh. I had the Shepherd and Welsh Wanderer cocktails. Very strong, delicious and well presented. We have friends that live locally and will absolutely be back to check out the Sunday slices, bring our dogs and have some more pizza and cocktails. Thanks Lee & co for fab hospitality.

Recently refurbished and Rebranded as "Fire & Fork" promising a " a traditional American barbecue experience". No Bread available before Starters. - Pork Burnt Ends - Mixture of under and over cooked chunks of pork in a sickly sweet, slightly spicy smoked sauce. Need something acidic to cut through all the fat came with "Texas "Toast", Stale slice of bloomer spread with an unidentifiable substance. Beef Cigars - Lovely shredded beef in a crispy pancake style roll with a rich, smoked Garlic Mayo. Mains - XL Short Ribs not available so both ordered the 10 Hour Smoked Brisket. Served as described on menu. No discernable smoked crust or flavour to the Brisket. No mustard available at this restaurant. No Napkins provided, asked twice, got some from another table. we dealt with our cutlery shortage similarly. No water provided when requested. Inexperience of the staff evident but more than made up for by their enthusiasm and wish to please. Two Starters, Two Mains, Three pints and a Short / Mixer - £92. Option to add tip to card payment. Cash tip direct to server. This place has lots of potential but needs to overcome teething problems before one will consider a return
