Coach and Horses in Suffolk Coastal

We’re regular visitors to the Coach and Horses, sometimes just for a coffee during the day but we also like to eat here in the evenings. We’ve always been made to feel welcome and had friendly and efficient service. The food has been superb, ample portions and delicious. Imaginative menus, not standard pub fare, all credit to the chefs!

Food was so delicious!! Staff were extremely friendly, helpful and patient definitely be coming back!! Very affordable pricing too !!

We booked here for Mothers Day for 4.30pm. Beef roast sounded delicious by description on menu. What a disappointment. The beef was tough to cut and almost impossible to chew and swallow....roast potatoes... we couldn't get fork in them to cut.. Obviously we complained and the waiting staff were very understanding..asked if we'd like something else. Said we'd have the chicken..small leg and same hard potatoes presented..I know the kitchen staff were busy, it being Mothers day but the chef should be ashamed to let this food go out of the kitchen!!!

This was a special Mothers day celebration but was not as good as it could be. Although the drinks were reasonably priced the food portions didn't seem as big as other Deben Inn's which I have visited. The Sunday roast was average with chicken on the bone not sliced. The burger usually consists of a nice thick juicy type but on this occasion I had two thin burgers squashed together in a bun which was ok not great. The other meals were ok but we came away hungry even after having a what seemed a small desert. I won't return to this pub again.

Usually love deben inns and never leave less than a 4 but very ooor got Mother’s Day. Service was understaffed there was a massive table of about 25 who should have had their own waiter but instead 3 girls trying to do over 59 people on our side was hopeless NOT. The waiting on staff fault. Food was very expensive for what we got minuscule trout tiny mackerel and very little salmon for £22 was appalling. My daughter went for ton ness and there was one strawberry cut up in the Eton mess for £9 prices rounded up. Very disappointing and when asked was everything ok can hardly say well actually the portions of some of the food was rubbish. I hope this was just a one off

If you eat meat and fish, there’s a great selection but as a vegan, you’re fairly limited. Sadly the vegan bean burger was dry and crumbly, served in a ciabatta baguette (cut up), with no vegan cheese. You could easily offer a vegan friendly burger bun, that comes with patty and ‘cheese’. I love bean burgers usually but this lacked flavour and just fell apart. Also it would be nice to have another option that isn’t a dish made vegan by removing the cheese… No complaints about the service received though.

Didn’t realise how busy it would be on a Monday evening, so naively didn’t book, but the lovely young girl Lily?? managed to fit us in as soon as an table became available. While we waited at the bar and were served by Lizz who made sure we weren’t left with an empty glass. Overall we had a lovely evening food, drinks and wonderful atmosphere. We will definitely remember to book in advance for our next visit.

Have been a fan of Deben Inn group of Pubs for some time now and we were not disappointed. Staff were polite and professional and the food very good as always. I had one issue with the steak being a bit chewy, this was sorted to my satisfaction, but the rest was excellent. One member of staff who gets a special mention is Gyuri as he is excellent and shines even above the other very good team members. Well done all.

Came here for a few drinks and to say they were slammed is an understatement. Was super impressed with how they handled the rush for Sunday lunch while still serving at the bar and keeping a smile on their faces. Well done Lily B, Liss, Gyuri, Lily F and Betty. Fabulous Job. Looking forward to our next visit!!!

We visited here on 13th January for a change as we are big fans of The Wilford Bridge. How we wish we had gone to the Bridge. The restaurant, as all Deben Inns has 50% off all food on Mondays & Tuesdays in January and the staff clearly could not cope and were very badly managed and most seemed very demotivated. We arrived for our 6pm table and were not offered drinks until 6.30pm at which point we ordered food too. Our drinks arrived at 6.40pm and 3 of them were incorrect, no ice in 2 and tap water instead of bottled water for 1 of the drinks, after waiting a further 6 minutes I went to the bar to get the correct drink and some ice for the drinks. Our food arrived just after 7pm and 3 out of the 4 diners were not impressed by the meals, the venison on 2 of the meals was overcooked and tough and the fish & chips were well below the quality & standard of the Wilford Bridge. 2 of our diners are Coeliac and one of them had issues the following day which would indicate cross contamination in the kitchen. We were offered dessert but decided we did not want to want another 30 minutes for that so we asked for the bill. When it arrived the bill was incorrect - we had been charged an additional £3.50 for a second bottle of water that we did not have. I see that sadly many pubs are closing at the moment and we go past the Coach & Horses regularly and the car park is often full, however at that level of service and standard of food we will keep driving and go to The Wilford Bridge. I hope that the Coach & Horses can turn things around before they become another casualty of the shaky hospitality industry

Was passing, decided to stop for lunch. They found us a table without fuss. Service and food excellent- top halloumi cheese/mushroom burger. Beef burger excellent too.

We love Deben Inns for their sensible food choices and usual prices, along with good service. However, on our latest visit with friends, I was astonished at the size of my Xmas Pudding or lack of it should I say! It's overpriced by far. Really small portion, gone in 4 mouthfuls! The same priced large apple & blackberry crumble was better value for the same price. Beware!

This is our go to pub when visiting Woodbridge. The staff are amazing, the ambience striking, the cleanliness is really good and lastly, the choice of food is excellent, good value and never disappointing

Been visiting here for several years now and reduced my visits after they stopped serving new potatoes with the delicious sea food platter. They substituted with a horrid potato salad. Staff here are always lovely and attentive. Invited to join friends for lunch we went along very apprehensive .The daily menu had been beefed up and now includes Christmas Dinner. Well who can say no to a good roast and it certainly delivered. Home made stuffing (need more of it!) huge homemade Yorkshire's, none of your frozen fare. Plenty of succulent turkey and lots of properly cook vegetables ,no soggy sprouts. Served with minuscule portion of gravy. One look at the Yorkshire filling my plate and I immediately ordered up another jug of rich gravy. Plus why oh why do we have to request cranberry sauce! It should be on the table. I chose a lemon meringue tart. The pastry was excellent as was the meringue but it was ruined by a gloopy over sweet filling which spread over the plate. Others had the Christmas pudding but complained it was a tiny portion served with a lacklustre sauce. So I fully recommend the roast dinner it ticks all the boxes for my first Xmas lunch.

The food was the best we have EVER tasted..and the service was delivered with efficiency and kindness. We highly recommend a visit.

Came here for sunday lunch with friends visiting the area. Excellent food with great service - very friendly and helpful. This is a very busy pub and they are well-organised to handle the large amount of customers. We really enjoyed our afternoon and would like to return. Highly recommended.

There is something for everyone on this menu. The atmosphere is very friendly, the staff are attentive and nothing seems too much trouble. The little dog in our party was welcomed, a member of staff took photos and everyone had time to pass a few words. A gem of a place.

Super menu freshly cooked gluten free options not a problem. Pleasant and efficient staff nothing too much trouble. Would thoroughly recommend.

We had dinner here on two consecutive nights while staying in Woodbridge. The food was really good and the service was excellent. There is a good choice of gluten free food available The two courses for £16 offer was extremely good value.

Popped in for a well deserved pint after a walk with our dog. Felt so welcomed by all the staff. Lettie in particular was just amazing. Whilst we didn't eat, we will return to do so, as the food that kept coming out looked fantastic!!

Nothing but good to say about this pub. We were earlier than our booking but not a problem. Very welcoming, friendly, helpful with a good selection of food and drinks. Meal was excellent, nothing fussy, just a good pub menu. Absolutely loved our evening and wouldn’t hesitate to go back

Have been here many times , but the quality of the food has been poor the last couple of times. My wife and I ordered roast beef for lunch , and the potatoes and Yorkshire pudding were obviously pre prepared and were like warm at best. Staff were good but the food and value for money let the pub down.

I had not been here for a year or so based on my very average food experiences in the past so I thought it was time to try it again. Mistake! Nothing has improved, just the prices have gone up. All the food is average quality at best, desserts pricey and, honestly, barely average. There are lots of other places to eat in Woodbridge and Melton and i would definiteley advise try those first.

Service was amazing. There was one lovely lady called Lindsey, she mad the experience 10/10 she was really kind and looked after us. The food we had was outstanding, the duck breast was cooked to perfection and the 8oz steak was also cooked perfectly.

We visited on the last Monday in January with 2 friends when the 50% off food offer was running. We were welcomed warmly but the service overall was disappointing and the food left a little to be desired. Everything was OK but only OK and having visited here before I think the service and food quality have declined. I had the gluten free beefburger (with cheese) the burger bun was rock solid and inedible and the cheese was non existent - when I pointed this out to our server and the manager it was acknowledged but shrugged off. Whilst I understand they were running a promotion and very busy this does not mean the service of food should be substandard should it? We have not been back since (in February) but we have visited the Wilford Bridge 5 times since and had brilliant service and excellent food each time - and they have had the promotion running and been very busy. I am not sure why we would go back to The Coach & Horses now

The restaurant was extremely busy, yet the staff were friendly and welcoming. The food was great, and the sticky toffee pudding, which was actually my husband's, was the best I've ever tasted! The prices were more than reasonable, especially the set menu prices, and we will certainly visit again. We will ensure we recommend to family and friends too.

The staff were friendly and welcoming. The service was good, with the food being ordered and delivered promptly. Having visited two of the other inns in the ‘chain’ the previous two nights, we were a bit disappointed by the food in comparison.

I cannot fault the food. The steak and chicken were so tender. However it felt like there were a lot of people on shift but it lacked customer attentiveness. I had to ask for another drink, to order dessert and for the bill. Even after I’d asked for the bill, nobody came to take payment. 3 blokes at the bar. We were the only remaining diners so I can’t say it was because they were busy. They kept chatting to the blokes at the bar and neglected their last remaining diners. So disappointing after a lovely meal and a fantastic initial welcome from a lady called Aubrey. I’m guessing she finished her shift because once we’d left ordered we didn’t see her again. She was, however so attentive

Went for an early lunch. Firstly- the food was excellent. We had three roasts, all of which were presented well and tasted fantastic. Enjoyed getting unexpected Cauliflower cheese and the beef was the best we'd had in a very long time.Sadly, our visit was somewhat undermined by the terrible service we received. After arriving at 12:30 and ordering our food 10 minutes in, we were left for just over an hour before our mains arrived. We had a portion of bread and olives which were served quickly, but the roasts were nowhere to be seen once we had finished the nibbles. We had to nudge a waiter, after which we finally received our food.That being said, the quality of the food is excellent and I don't think anyone should be put off by this review. They deserve a full 5 stars and it would be my hope that the service matched the food next time we visit.

Went here for lunch with my girlfriend on Bank Holiday Monday, even though they were absolutely packed the service was still excellent and efficient. All of the staff were very friendly and the food was incredible, I definitely intend to return!

We stopped here whilst on holiday staying locally, staff were very friendly and accommodating. A good choice of kids meals were available to keep them happy! We visited the coach & horses today, we were greeted so nicely. The service by the waitress was so helpful and kind despite how busy they were. The atmosphere was lovely for us, especially with our children. I would highly recommend any families to eat and drink here.

Visited the coach with family on bank Holiday Monday, was very busy but found a table outside. Staff were very friendly and efficient, and we were made to feel very welcome .Food was amazing very tasty , I had the sirloin steak which was cooked to perfection .Will definitely be back and highly recommend. I tried to order the prawns in filo pastry as a main with a bowl of chips. I have done this in the past I am sure. however, I was informed this is not allowed so I had to change my meal.I am baffled as to what difference this makes and surely you should be aiming to keep a customer happy?Shame as I am always very complimentary of the Coach and Horses but this left me very disappointed.

Just visited the coach and horses melton with the family and it was busy we sat outside for Lunch and the food was amazing and the service was great friendly staff we went for a walk into Woodbridge along the river and were given directions by Mikey and decided to return there for out evening meal as well Mikey said they were fully booked but managed to get us all in at 8.30 pm 2 family's and great service again

Visited here for lunch today with a friend. Immediately after leaving we both experienced stomach problems and an urgent need to use a toilet.Reported it to the restaurant by email and they suggested it may be Covid-19. Not vey sympathetic or apologetic.Very disappointed with the fact that something from this establishment made us unwell and made even worse that they didn’t care.Will not be returning.

Have always enjoyed here for years until tonight. Normally a fabulous atmosphere with brilliant staff and fabulous food.Tonight ...40 minute wait to have order taken, another 25 minutes to get the food. The two burgers lacked bacon (arrived late and cold) and sauces ordered with them; charged full price!. The vegetarian burger lacked the bun and onion rings BUT charged full price. The pint of diet coke arrived in a half pint CLEARLY CRACKED glass, charged full price. Luckily I complained and got a SMALL reduction.I am so so disappointed for my son's birthday treat that ended so flat.

Such a shame to post a negative review given the current circumstances.Despite a sign that table service was the norm no one was monitoring arrivals - hence service far from great - a couple walked after a ten minute rate for a couple of drinks to arrive while we were there..So maybe not enough staff or maybe just poorly managed.On the + side the food was fine - well ok. On balance others in the area are doing better an all fronts.

Came here the night before November lockdown. Made a mistake with email booking and had a lovely member of staff sort everything out for me! Staff are so lovely there and wearing the proper PPE and keeping distance. Nachos were amazing, best I've ever had! Also had the spinach and ricotta ravioli, I'm in love with the sauce, again the best I've had!! My other half had the Burger and he demolished it. Best meal we've had in ages. Pricing was spot on for this quality of food :) Can't wait to be back in December!! Nachos here I come :)

We came been here a few months ago at the end of lockdown and I thought the experience was average BUT today it was great! I came here today with my husband, brother in law and husbands mum. It was lovely. I had the smoked haddock from the specials board and swapped the new potatoes for mash, maybe a little too much mash but good none the less. Wide range of specials, plus the two course set priced menu for £12.95 and the main menu. Service was good and friendly. My husband and his mum had the burger (main menu) which was nice and came with onion rings. My brother in law had the pasta from the specials, which came with garlic bread and also was nice. We had a larger round table by the fire, was ideal. In all a fab experience and will return.

While in Woodbridge we phoned to see if we needed to book a table, very helpful on the phone took our booking, when we arrived we were greeted with a warm welcome and shown to our seats, we were shown the menu and given time to look so did not feel rushed, when the food came to us it was hot and very nice, all the staff were very friendly and helpful .we will call in again next time we are in Woodbridge well done to all the staff.

Food was superb. Staff were very welcoming and did I say the food was superb.We ate here by chance when staying away for 3 night locally. The evening and food was so nice we didn’t want to go anywhere else on the following evening.The staff was professional but entertaining. And yes, the food was superb.

I am absolutely appalled. i have been to the coach and horses a few times before but never had it been this bad. we walked in and the customer service was awful, they forgot our starters so our main courses arrived before drinks and starters. once we complained, they took the starters off the bill so that was good. we then got our starters, the nachos were stone cold and soggy. the drinks were dusty. unwashed glasses, the main courses were uncooked and bleeding. utterly appalled and disappointed never seen anything like it.

Popped in here today as it was pouring with rain and we hadn’t booked. Fortunately there was a table available so we checked in and were shown to a nice table. Good spaces between tables and all staff were wearing masks. This was only our 2nd visit to a restaurant since March so we were pleased to see how safe they had made it. We only had time for starters but they were all excellent. Home made broccoli and Stilton soup was described as delicious, the sticky chicken fingers were very tasty but I was most impressed with the homemade nachos. Certainly the nicest I’ve ever had. The waitress was happy to tell us how they were made. (So different to the usual packet of Doritos)I wish we’d had time for a main meal as well but I’m certain we will return and I’m happy to recommend this pub. Staff were very friendly and helpful. A great find.
