**Restaurant Review: A Taste of French Elegance** From the moment you step into this charming French cuisine restaurant, you're transported to the heart of Paris. The ambiance exudes sophistication, with soft lighting, rustic wooden accents, and delicate French music playing in the background, setting the perfect mood for an unforgettable meal. **Service: 5/5** The staff is exceptionally attentive, offering a warm welcome and professional service throughout the evening. They are well-versed in the menu, guiding us through each course with recommendations and pairing suggestions. The knowledge and passion for French cuisine are evident in their demeanor, elevating the dining experience. **Food: 4.5/5** The menu is a masterful reflection of French culinary tradition, featuring a variety of dishes that both respect and innovate on classic techniques. We began with a *foie gras terrine*, beautifully complemented by a tangy fruit chutney and buttery toast—rich, delicate, and absolutely divine. For the main course, the *duck confit* was a standout: the skin crisped to perfection, with tender meat that practically melted in the mouth. Paired with a silky, aromatic red wine, it was a gastronomic delight. The only minor critique would be the *coq au vin*, which, while flavorful, could have used a touch more depth in the sauce. However, it was still well-executed, showcasing the slow-cooked tenderness of the chicken. Dessert was nothing short of heavenly. The *tarte Tatin*—caramelized apples atop a perfectly flaky pastry—was the perfect sweet note to end on, along with a delicate *crème brûlée* whose caramelized top cracked just as it should. **Atmosphere: 4.5/5** The décor is both chic and cozy, with a minimalist yet warm vibe. The low hum of conversation and the clinking of glasses creates an intimate and relaxed atmosphere. While the space is beautifully appointed, it can feel slightly cramped during peak hours. **Overall:** This restaurant brings the essence of French dining to life in a way that makes you feel like you're sitting at a sidewalk café in Paris. Every dish is crafted with precision, and the service ensures that every guest feels like they are part of something special. With minor room for improvement in a couple of dishes, it's still an experience worth savoring. A must-visit for anyone looking to indulge in refined French cuisine!

Disappointing. Flavourless cassoulet, revisited with lamb and hardly any haricots, dry and scarce duck, accompagnied by a bitter "compressed leaves" salad, why? Celeriac and coffee dessert nicely presented but insipid and the two do not compliment each other. Service OK only. Nice atmosphere. Falling short of its reputation.

We have visited Club Gascon on multiple occasions and without any doubt, it is one of standout restaurants on the London scene. We have come for birthdays and an impromptu dinner alike, for the full tasting menu and a la carte, all of which have been truly special. Some of the highlights for me are the creative use of foie gras in varied dishes, coupled with a brilliant selection of French wines, and of course, the warm and charming staff team. We have always been welcomed back with a smile and chat. The comfortable, refined interior is full of tasteful, yet pared back, touches down to the tactile crockery. Everything a fine, grown up restaurant should be and highly recommended. We will be back soon!

Highly pretentious tasting menu that would appeal to very few palettes. Lack of dress code (person next to us wore jogging bottoms, hoodie and white trainers) made an awful dining experience feel even less special. Courses were as follows: Appetizers - a delicious selection of 5 bite sized samples. All superb and led us to think we were in for a true culinary experience.... 1. Prawn cappuccino soup with lentils and tuna heart. Very fishy but passable, nothing special. 2. Artichokes and plate of hibiscus. Truly awful. 3. Bowl of various mushrooms (including pickled) in boiled water and foam on top. Lacked flavour. Unpleasant texture. 4. Mouthful of pigeon - the only piece of meat of the non vegetarian menu. Looked nicely cooked but chewy. 5. Some kind of melted slushy blue cheese. Looked like a melted sorbet alongside crunchy noodle sticks. Very sickly. Couldn't eat it. 6. Herb flavoured sorbet, a sloppy melted affair that looked like it had been recycled from prior course. 7. Fermented honey glazed carrots (literally two slices of carrot for desert) alongside some dry ginger cake and an orange exploding thing which made my wife retch when she ate. I took mine to the loo and flushed it down the toilet as I couldn't bear the thought of seeing the waitress' disappointed face any more.

The food was great overall, the starter was fake fois gras made using nut butter which was yummy and ethical. Haha. The main was roast duck and portion was generous. However the lemon dessert with curry cream inside was not nice.. the waitress said it was their signature dessert and they have been making it for 26 years... omg, lemon and curry combo was probably the worst thing I have tasted. But the cheese and bread round up the meal nicely. Service was excellent and atmosphere was good. Price was definitely eye watering but overall experience was a pleasant one. We had a nice evening there.

This restaurant serves duck foie gras, a so-called delicacy that is rooted in sheer cruelty and animal suffering. The production process is nothing short of torture—ducks are force-fed several times a day, their stomachs painfully overfilled to the point of illness, just to swell their livers unnaturally. Supporting this dish is supporting a cycle of extreme and unnecessary suffering.

The wine was very good the service was not bad. The seating is cramped right against the wall and not enough space to sit comfortably. The table we happened to have was wobbly which is ok if you're eating at a food hall but not for a fine dining experience. I know that food tastes are subjective but honestly it's definitely the worst food I've eaten at any Michelin starred restaurant. There was one dish that was outstanding (the mackerel), the variation of lamb was also pretty nice and the rest were just not very good at all. I must add the presentation of the dishes was brilliant! The price ended up being worth it due to the amount of laughter it gave us on the way home talking about our meal.

Horrible main course of not properly cooked as pink and jelly like. Awful tasting aubergine and weird green thing that looked like a succulent I have in my house. Also not hot enough and luke warm. Seriously hope I’m not sick later. Only good thing was the glass of Montrachet. Hate that all that money was wasted on an evening that should have been enjoyable. My second time dining at Club Gascon and the food was once again amazing. Creative, super tasty and worthy of its Michelin Star. The cheesecake desert baffled me (in a good way)! Our waitress was lovely but the sommelier was rude. The wine list is extensive so we asked for some advice. When we said our budget was £60-70 for a bottle he snubbed us, pointed at a page and looked over to another table. Unacceptable and quite frankly set a poor tone for the rest of the meal. Luckily the waitress and food redeemed the situation but the sommelier let the experience down.

Club Gascon has been going for over twenty five years and it is some time since we last visited. Dinner on a Saturday evening was not full maybe not surprising considering the location. We had booked the three course menu including bread, tea and coffee which is normally priced at £65.00 but there are wider six and eight course tasting menus with wine pairings available. The three course menu has a choice of two courses at each stage and we were quite surprised at the level of invention and the mouth watering flavours, a Michelin star is certainly well deserved here. The setting is nice and the staff warm and friendly. The only negative was that the wine we initially ordered was sold out but the wine list is good and in this day and age reasonable value for money too. South West France is the speciality. The menus change seasonally and we would certainly go back later in the year.

Not a Michelin experience by any means. When we first arrived we were ignored by the maître d. We were eventually acknowledged and sat down only to wait 30 minutes to be offered a drink. One of our party asked for slimline tonic to be told by the maître d they didn’t have any, the food was full fat and then proceeded to shrug. We asked if they served Diet Coke which they did so unsure how much sense that made. The food was underwhelming and the main course incredibly chewy (their signature dish - the duck). The best part about our meal was the bread. However, what lets this place down even more than the food is the service. The maître d was just pompous and so condescending. Overall so very disappointing.

This restaurant has only one Michelin star, it should be 2. We eat at a lot of 1 or 2 star places in London but this meal today was the best ever. We all had the same starter, a Faux Fois Gras made from nuts etc. Exquisite, totally veg but tasted like the real thing. 2 had fish and 2 had cassoulet, traditional dishes but with that something etc. The desserts were also masterpieces. The knowledgeable head waiter explained the dishes very well and helped us choose some modestly priced wine - she didn't try to make us spend lots more! This lovely intimate restaurant in a historic area of London, just near Smithfield, is off the main tourist trail. The award winning chef has been there 25 years. We ate a la carte (the lunch set menu doesn't start until next week) but for 4 of us and 2 bottles of wine it was less than the River Cafe set spring lunch. This is our first visit since before the pandemic and it is as good as ever, didn't take photos because they can't do it justice. Smart casual, hubby wore jeans and a shirt. If you like really good food that you couldn't possibly make your self then try it.

Having googled "Michelin Starred French Restaurant in London" Club Gascon was one of the first options to pop-up. A quick sense-check of the reviews, it seemed worthy of a booking, but if I'm being honest, we were rather disappointed by our experience. For complete transparency, this was our first time eating "classically" French fine-dining but having eaten at a number of other Michelin starred restaurants in the past - we had little reason to believe our evening would have been anything short of fantastic. We ordered the 8 course tasting menu - both the "regular" and vegetarian options. None of the dishes we received were particularly memorable, with some flavour / texture combinations leaving us a bit perplexed. E.g. The squirrel terrine with hazelnuts, partridge leg / offal meat on a sugar tart. But understanding that "taste" can often be subjective, I don't want to dwell on this... What particularly disappointed us was two-fold. The attention to detail: Receiving a chipped wine glass, and having wine accidentally spilt onto our table and then not offered to be cleaned up. Not something we would typically focus on but when you're paying a premium, you expect a premium level of attention. The perception that our servers' did not know what what was "in" the food. Whether this was an "off" night (Thursday), I'm not sure, and whilst perfectly pleasant, it often felt like we were trying to coax out of staff what had gone into our dishes... On a few occasions, our questions yielding a single ingredient response or a bemused look. In our view, the beauty of the upper tier of dining is the "experience" and "story-telling", for the staff to take you on a journey of what, how and where the food has been produced... Bringing to life what has put in front of you (figuratively speaking, of course!) Finally, the presentation. The food was refined and well presented. The restaurant itself, however, was maybe more dated than we have come to expect, quintessentially looking like you would have expected a fine dining establishment to have looked in the 90s. We are absolutely not in the habit of writing negative reviews for the sake of it but we feel like it is important to give an honest appraisal of our experience, for this to be viewed constructively and hopefully improved upon in the future.

This used to be a good restaurant before the dreaded Michelin star. Now it’s a somber temple to “fine dining” but missing the essential element of “fine”. We had the 5 course menu, which was a dispiriting display of showing off but with no real substance. Turning langoustines into jelly might sound sexy but the resulting wobbly mess (stuffed with gritty cockles) was a salty and mostly tasteless waste of effort. The mushroom course was a teaspoon of puréed morel which was uninspiring. The partridge breast was ok, but coming in an inexplicable sauce and no veg. I will still hungry after three courses. The sweet courses were plain weird. My friends had the cheesy eclair which one of them refused to eat. I had some cheesy flower with berries in a pastry base which really doesn’t work in any universe. The final course was an over sweet sorbet / chocolate moose, which contained the only genuinely interesting thing all night - a spoon of fennel sorbet. There were three of us and with a couple of glasses of wine this whole experience cost just short of £400. I found the waiting staff arch and unfriendly - they seem to think they are church wardens rather than waiters. When I told our waiter I had coeliac disease she complained that they needed to be “told in advance”. My friend asked them to call a taxi when we were done (it was pouring outside) and was told that they didn’t do that type of thing. Finally, I really cannot bear restaurants that instruct their waiters to interrupt guests’ discussions when food arrives so they can portentously announce what we are about to eat. We know what it is because we looked at the menu and made the choice in the first place. That’s just plain irritating.

I went here with my daughter for the 4 course tasting menu in April, value wise it was good. The food was mixed with both of us enjoying some courses and not others. But one course the macaroon was absolutely amazing it was worth it just for that hence the 4 stars. I understand that’s down to personal taste. We booked for 9pm and the service was prompt with not much time between courses to the extent it felt rushed. I would say try the place as the menu changes and we might of just been unlucky on the night.

I was visiting a friend in hospital nearby. I remembered the restaurant from the early 2000 and thought I'd take a look. I have the most amazing memories of a few of their famous dishes. So I went in and asked about them. I spoke to the amazing maitre D Francesca and asked if it was at all possible to eat.... Well Francesca went above and beyond to accommodate me and had the most marvelous time... Thank you to all the staff and kitchen.

The foie gras was good, the sweetbreads excellent, the duck lacked some flavour.

Food was great, had the 8 course tasting menu and only disliked one dish - neither of us liked the frosted rock, tasted like pink dish soap. As others have posted, you are paying a lot for the menu and this comes with high expectation of service level and food. And this really feel short. It was very good but just not that 5 star level it should be based on price. The two servers were very nice and the one lady was great. And, if this was a regular restaurant and we were having a 3 course meal I would not have a problem with the service. For a MICHELIN start restaurant the service fell short. The restaurant needs a least another server to help; the two people seemed really overwhelmed and could not maintain the level of service necessary. Plates were left on the table after done eating far too long, we had to ask repeatedly for another glass of wine, pacing of dishes was off, etc. It is all these minor points which differentiate a restaurant from 8/10 to 10/10. it is the difference between a really nice and 5 star. The restaurant has been there for 25 years so I am sure it will be fine despite my review, but customers should be aware this it not a 5 star Michelin restaurant anymore.

First time visitor, had the vegetarian, 6 course menu, which was absolutely amazing. Dish of the meal, was the stuffed courgette flowers.Came with the most amazing smoked bread, and that green sauce! Divine, never had a sauce as smooth as that. Overall the experience was nothing but excellent. Staff were also very nice and talkative, explaining about the food, history of the restaurant and feelings of the chef. No rushing at all, atmosphere was amazing, we were actually the first people in for the evening so the place was completely empty and lovely. There was nice and relaxing background music. Found the portion size to be a overall excellent (just a tinsy bit too much, but we tend to eat less than average) and you definitely will be fed after. As besides the courses there are other little bits and bobs. Will be looking to return, though it is definitely several times above our usual price range for a meal out, the taste and experience was worth it for a very special occasion.

Went here for a tasting menu with wine pairing here a couple of weeks ago. Very quiet for a Friday evening. Everything was beautifully presented, service was polished, and the food was truly and comically abysmal. Whilst consistently unpleasant, highlights included (a) 'Smoked bread' (which tasted like cigarettes); (b) exploding fois gras bubbles in duck soup with grated tuna heart which tastes like it sounds; and (c) an undercooked pigeon despite my asking for it to be anything but. Felt a bit sorry for the staff (as it was a bit funny) and left hungry which should not really be happening at £600 for 2 (!). To note however: (i) it has really stayed in the memory; and (ii) this place used to be v. good/reliable pre-pandemic - not sure if the chef has changed or something.

Fantastic lunch. Did the tasting menu. It was superb. All the dishes deserved 👏🏼. I've been to many michlein restaurants in NYC and Paris. This is one of my favorite ones. We will be back. Thank you.

And for a birthday dinner early Jan as a couple. It was £550 for two tasters and wine flight. The star rating was a combination of a few things. The restaurant was decorated when grey sterility was in, it now feels cold and a bit soulless. The menu predictably boring. Food nice and well cooked but just predictably blah, nothing of interest. Premium wine flight nothing was particularly spectacular or even old. Some had run out and replaced with generics. Wine two had zero flavour whatsoever and despite mentioning this it was just blanks stare. Staff were generally attentive and good though confused by each other at times. To top it off, 14.5% service charge. Wouldn’t return.
