Took my partner for a weekend away for her 60th chose this hotel because I wanted her to have dinner in the Cloisters restaurant but Heyho we ended up having both meals in the conservatory attached to the bar. Very disappointed Staff fantastic but also seemed sad that the management have decided to close this restaurant for ordinary guests and use it for weddings and special functions. We had our room in a newer nearby complex and also had breakfast in this complex so didn’t seem to get much out of the stunning building. We won’t be going back sadly and will stay nearer to the city centre next time. Sadly it took the edge off our enjoyment so message to management YOU GOT IT WRONG G&M

The booking for the Sunday evening meal for 2 was made via e-mail conversations, direct with the hotel, and proved to be quick, easy and efficient. It is suggested that no matter when you are going that a reservation is made in advance to ensure you get a table. The restaurant is situated within Bailbrook House Hotel on the outskirts of Bath and has free parking for those who are driving. The restaurant is situated in the basement of the House and is where the heritage of the historic mansion really comes into its own. It has a cosy ambience with original vaulted archways made from traditional Bath stone adding to the intimate feel, plus plenty of tables overlooking a secluded woodland scene and countryside beyond. On arrival we were greeted, shown to our table and, have to say, the service provided throughout was very attentive, well-informed and quite polite. The evening menu has a diverse mix of seasonal dishes, classic flavours and firm favourites, there being something to suit almost all. The wine menu was equally diverse, though the mark up may put a drinker of fine wine off. All dishes are made from scratch, featuring, where possible, seasonal and local ingredients cooked fresh to order. Well worth the wait as they were good quality, well presented to a high standard (compliments to the chef on this). Portions are slightly on the small side, but each dish was a creation with pleasant groupings of textures and tastes. Items of note from our chosen dishes included the starter of ‘Scottish salmon’ and the main of ‘Hampshire venison’. I have no hesitation in recommending this restaurant and would use it again, however this is ‘Fine Dining’ that comes with a price tag to note for the wines!

We visited Cloisters restaurant as part of our Mum’s 85th Birthday celebrations. At the time of booking staff were very helpful and attentive to our needs, agreeing to find us a quiet part of the restaurant and offering to present Mum with a “Happy Birthday” plate as part of our tasting menu. The restaurant is in the beautiful vaulted cloisters of the Bailbrook House Hotel, a gorgeous setting. Stacy, our host, was helpful and welcoming, ensuring that we felt thoroughly looked after all evening. Every one of the courses in the tasting menu was excellent. The menu gave exactly the right level of description for each dish, the gaps between courses were perfectly pitched and the service was immaculate. Each dish was a little work of art with delicious and sometimes unexpected combinations of of textures and flavours. A restaurant of this calibre deserves to be full at every service and if we lived locally it would be our go-to for special occasions. Very very highly recommended.

This should be a lovely place to dress up and dine but sadly the food lets it down. This is the second time this year we have stayed at the hotel for a few nights each time. First time the food was ok, not amazing but ok. This time we were very under whelmed. The starter of goats cheese curd was nice and the pumpkin amuse bouche was lovely but my steak had a huge amount of fat. Marbling is good but this was off the scale. My wines by the glass I suspect had been left open for a while as they had that off taste. Luckily on our last visit we found a lovely restaurant within walking distance which we used again this time.

The occasion was a family lunch event to celebrate a significant birthday. It was attended by around 30 people that everyone was looking forward to. Sadly, it was a very underwhelming experience food and drink wise. And the service was patchy at best. I wasn't expecting Michelin star but I did expect a napkin when being served hot and crumbly canapes. And didn't expect guests to have to serve themselves when the waiters seemed to give up on the canapes. I also expect serving staff to know which side to deliver a plate from (rather than just learning over people across a table). The meat which I think was beef was dry and stringy and not at all pleasant. The dessert was obviously bought in rather than being freshly prepared. The kids meal was a burger which actually looked quite nice but was served with a wooden skewer through it. A skewer with a sharp point that two little boys thought it fund to have a sword fight with - until it was pointed out to their alarmed parents that it might not be a good idea. To cap it all, the tea and coffee was served in mugs but no milk or teaspoons were provided. When we asked for teaspoons, we were brought a cup full of wooden stirrers of the sort you might get in a takeaway coffee shop. Very strange! Avoid!

Most of what we ate was very good: an excellent guinea fowl and lovely chocolate mouse for example. Our starters were also very good. The amuse bouche of pea ‘panda cotta’ was bland though and the cheese selection not the best. There is some decent wine with OK markups but a lack of care in serving (broken cork and no mention of vintages). Staff are pleasant if a little clueless at times (an exception was Elina who was outstanding)

We booked to eat here as we were staying and had spent the day out and about in the cold so didn't want to venture out again. We were not expecting much as hotel restaurants tend to let us down. We are very glad to report that Cloisters did not! The food is excellent and the wine list varied. The staff were great especially our waitress. The only downside was that we were told we had to eat at 18:45...we were the only couple in the restaurant until 19:00 and then people appeared to arrive every 15 minutes which was a little strange! I can see that the view would be awesome in the summer and there is a terrace.

We were staying at the hotel on a DBB rate so had dinner in Cloisters included which after reading the formal review.... looked very positive, the reality was unfortunately not soo great. A sweeping staircase down the reception area takes you down to the restaurant which is a good size and the tables were not packed in. The romantic restaurant written about was nowhere to be seen. Yes its a lovely room but not what I would call romantic, was very bright on the Thursday night (when its noticeable the hotel is very busy with their conference facilities) two large noisy groups eating spoilt any "romantic" evening we were hoping for! And I would not begrudge anyone having a good time but it was not what we expected. Friday night in the restaurant was busier with couples and as such a much nicer atmosphere. The service was fine, staff were polite, food was very nice, the one dish that stood out was the lamb, cooked to perfection however no other dishes were particularly memorable. Overall, it was not as we expected but certainly not terrible.

Bailbrook House Hotel. On the 23rd July we booked to stay at the Bailbrook House Hotel, Bath, through off peak luxury.com, for initially two nights commencing 22nd September, but found if we booked three we would get an automatic upgrade to the next available room type. We booked a package that included, Accommodation, an upgrade, pre-dinner glass of Champagne and Canapes per person (Value £ 15.00) and Breakfast. We arrived at the hotel to find that they could not find the booking, after some minutes it was located in a file at the back of the reception, we checked in and were given a key to room not in the Georgian style mansion that fronts the web site, but in a building that was a walk down a long corridor, turn left leave the main building, cross a short pathway into another building, into a lift to the third floor along another long corridor to find we had the basic classic shower double, OK, but not an upgrade and definitely not what we were expecting, so we retraced our steps, down long corridors, lifts, across to reception where we asked for our upgrade. To be told the hotel was full. A manager was summoned. The best she could do was put us in a suite in the Georgian Building for one night, we would have to repack in the morning and then go back to the original room for the second night, and then for the third night repack and go back to the suite. Not satisfactory I don’t book three nights in a hotel to live out of a suite-case, however a reasonable compromise, the suite: Lady Isabella King was nice, but could have done with some attention to styling detail. The next drama was trying to book a table in the cloisters restaurant, they could not possibly fit us in before the following night at 9:00 pm, but we could eat in the Bar if we liked! We retreated to the room to consider our position and check local restaurants on the internet. However not to be outdone my wife had a word with the manager who told her that we should have been told that we were booked into the Cloisters restaurant (Basement) at 7:00 pm as part of the package. By this time it was 6:40 pm so we had a bit of a rush but made it.The Champagne which arrived after a 20 minute wait was prosecco, (Not worth £ 7.50 a glass) when asked the name of the Champagne they served the Restaurant manager had a memory failure but said it was something special they bought in for these occasions. I have drunk many kinds of Champagne and Prosecco over the years and I can tell the difference, and I don’t like being lied to. The Canapés never arrived. The Starter arrived eventually, with so little food on the plate that if I did not know I would have sent it back and asked for a clean plate. I’ve washed up plates with more food on them! The evening dragged on the main courses came and went, again nouvelle cuisine, food as Art not as sustenance, not that there was anything wrong with it, however there could have been more of it, likewise the deserts. We finally escaped at 9:00 pm, to paraphrase Churchill ‘Never in the field of Human Gastronomy, has so little been eaten by so few, and taken so long’. In closing; the staff whilst charming as individuals struggle with poor systems, and lack of communication, (We had to chase down our baggage on two of the room moves), we were directed to the wrong restaurant for breakfast and had to go on a route march, (corridors and courtyards) to get to the other restaurant. There is too much work for the number of staff employed or on duty at any one time. The web site is a bit of a con, you really need to look through all the photographs carefully to get an idea of what you are really getting.During our stay there were two largish weddings on at the same time, the bar was closed to residents but you could get a drink, eventually, in the lounge.Would I go back? No. Would I recommend it? Only as a factory hotel, and definitely not for dining.

We had the set dinner on a Friday evening. The smoked salmon and the lamb were both good, though my wife's risotto was a bit stodgy, to be honest. I prefer a creamier risotto. The creme brûlée was, on the contrary, more liquid than I would have expected. The general experience was pleasant though.

I was very excited about having dinner in such a nice restaurant. I have a really bad dairy intolerance and I always contact restaurants before visiting so they are aware of my needs and I hate being fussy on the night of the meal and appreciate them being prepared. Despite contacting the hotel twice prior to visit and advising at reception they did not have a clue when I arrived for the meal the waiter had to talk to the kitchen about what they could make me, there was one option for me which was the butternut squash soup, the wild mushroom risotto and peaches. The soup tasted lovely my only complaint was perhaps a little small on portion size.Onto the main..... welll I am not sure what the chef did wrong but it just tasted of oil. I could not eat any of it. The worse thing really was the service, we waited for a waiter to come and ask if the meal was ok, but no one approached us, my husband finished his dinner and we waited at least 20 minutes for someone to approach our table, when the young girl arrived she asked if I had finished, I told her I did not like the food and could not eat any of it, she said she would tell the chef, but she never returned with an apology or an offer of any other meal. I had my desert which was nice but when it came to the end I told the girl I was not happy with my main, the manager came over and said what do you expect from a meal without dairy, plus it was free .... we paid £300 for dinner bed and breakfast so I really don't consider this a free meal. Very disappointed at his attitude and blame and the service we had. It made me feel upset on the first night of our trip .

Nice but expensive restaurant. (About £14 for a glass of wine?) Decor/setting is lovely but the ambience is a bit sterile. Needs something to cheer it up or enhance its character.

Stayed here as part of the hotel dinner bed and breakfast deal. Asked for a special table over the phone and this was done, amazing views out the window of Bath! Everything from the menu was beautiful and service was excellent, the menu was explained well and the service from all staff, especially Paige, was professional and friendly. Thank you for helping make our anniversary special!

We ate here as we were staying at the hotel and it's a bit out of town. The restaurant is in the cloisters and very attractive, we had a table overlooking the garden. We ate from the set menu, £39 for 3 courses there was a good choice and food was well presented and tasty. The wine was typical overpriced as you'd expect.

Special mention must go to Paige who was a delight throughout and sorted out a query with our bill most professionally. We thoroughly recommend Cloisters and aim to go back when next in Bath.

we had been staying at the Bailbrook (5*) for a long weekend and chose to eat in their Cloisters restaurant on our last night, a Sunday. A lovely setting, but the meal was distinctly patchy. Some big issues with flavours, and elements missing from dishes.. Bouillbasse starter that tasted only of Balsamic vinegar. A potentially clever haddock with squid risotto, broad beans, purple sprouting broccoli and a tapioca crisp, but no crisp or broad beans, and the haddock had been so oversalted that it was almost inedible. My wife had fillet and breast of lamb, but no sign of any breast ! On a high note we also shared a wonderful strawberry dessert. Complaint to the waiter about excess salt produced zero response. Also a good wine list, but badly presented a simple list of wines by the glass would be much better than scattering them haphazardly across the list.Would suggest a taxi into Bath as a better option for more reliable dining options.

I was excited to be here on Saturday having traveled from Norfolk and in fairness the food did not disappoint but did not over excite me either. Well, in areas.Firstly they had Scallops on the set menu as an appetiser but not on the A La Carte . I was told I could not split a menu? The aged Ribeye was not really aged and not being able to choose the Scallops I had cod cheeks that were over cooked. Desserts were special and very well presented and the cheese board was exceptional. Coffee in fairness could try harder. My partner had Lamb which looked wonderful and asparagus which looked equally as good so maybe just my bad choice but I have to say I am always surprised that a restaurant cannot split menu's. I did not even ask the price.

Following my earlier review of the conservatory bar (not glowing), we decided to give this another try as there was a two for one offer on the Sunday roast and there was going to be live music. The offer was on Facebook and when we tried to book, they had difficulties on the system as they could not find the offer (they said it was only for lunch when on Facebook they said the offer on the roast was from 12-9pm). In any case, the staff taking the booking was very pleasant. So we turned up at 615pm for our booking and when we introduced ourselves were told "oh, you are the two for one people".... Not a great start. We were told to pick a table which we did. Lovely bright and airy conservatory. We ordered our pre-dinner drinks and said that we would take them into the bar area and wait for our food order to arrive. That seemed to cause a lot of confusion. When the food arrived, the wine we had ordered had not yet been put on the table and when it was brought to us (very shortly after we sat down), it was warmer than the food. I know that red wine is supposed to be at room temperature but should it feel warm to the touch? In any case, the wine was very good. Also, I guess the food comes out of the same kitchen as the cloisters restaurant as the waiting staff seemed to bring food from quite a way away and the food was not hugely warm. Maybe the managers should think about some cloches to keep the food warmer between the kitchen and the conservatory? Going back to the food, I had the beef roast and my husband had the lamb roast. Both portions were huge with very small amount of vegetables - delicious but a bit off putting if like me you do not have a huge appetite. The meat was like a large blanket over the vegetables and it was quite a tricky plate to start with. Husband devoured his food and also had some of my beef. We asked for mint sauce and horseradish sauce - it seemed to puzzle our waitress but she was great. In fact, everyone we had contact with was very helpful and friendly. The live music by Tim Bone was very mellow and we decided to stay on to listen to more music and had a lovely evening. We will try again!

We used this restaurant as part of our hotel package. It is accessed via a lift for wheelchair users. It is a nice dining room and has lots of different levels to sit and feel private but most of these were not accessible. The staff were attentive and the service was well organised. The table de hotel menu included in the package was varied and food was delicious. It was hot, freshly and expertly cooked and tasted brilliant. I can highly recommend the butternut squash soup with beetroot and parsnip chips and the chocolate delice for desert. Drinks and wine were on the expensive side. £9.00 for a glass of house wine.

Beautiful stone walled and vaulted-roof restaurant with views over the expansive and stunning hotel grounds from some tables (luckily ours!). Could have done without the bland piped music though. Impeccable service......as it was throughout the hotel I might add. Good and interesting menu options with quality local produce well cooked.....really enjoyed it with 'wow' factor desserts! Slight glitch.....we ordered lemon sorbet as a palate cleanser between courses but were served rhubarb sorbet instrad since they had no lemon sorbet that day. Why not mention this either when we ordered or before it was brought to us? A bit of a communication failure? Not a major disaster of course but as a gesture I might have expected this to have been removed from the bill....it wasn't? Will definitely return.........

My husband booked a table as a birthday surprise. A surprise it certainly was as the female member of staff who greeted us seemed to know nothing of the booking including any special requests and plonked us on one of the least romantic tables with a "just sit here for now". We expected to be moved and when, after a ten minute wait, it looked like that was our table for the evening, we asked to be moved and were ushered to a far nicer spot. We ordered some wine and the waiter was obviously having a bad day as absolutely refused to smile or make eye contact. He just poured our wine and that was literally the last interaction we had with him despite our best efforts to attract his attention, we carried on serving ourselves for the rest of the meal. Our starters were tasty and reasonably prompt however the main course was a huge disappointment. Vegetables were so late and when we did chase for our potatoes they arrived cold and almost raw. Service was pretty much hands off for the whole of our meal and when the initial young lady (who was actually quite pleasant) asked us how our meal was and we gave sensitive feedback, an apology was not forthcoming. We were so disappointed with our experience, something that was meant to be special turned out to be anything but. We both found it interesting that it didn't take too long for the bill to arrive, and left very deflated with my poor husband wishing he had booked one of the other far superior restaurants in Bath.

This venue is a short taxi ride from central Bath but far enough away for it to not be on the radar of this long term resident. However, I visited with a group of 10 friends to sample the Guy Fawkes special event on November 4th.Initially, my heart sank as we entered the brightly lit foyer with dodgy looking corporate decor and it sunk even lower when we were shown into a depressingly sterile 'dentist waiting room style' reception room. The huge rooms are impressive but lacking in any atmosphere or welcoming ambience. Turn the lights down guys and light some candles! We asked to move and then the evening took a turn for the better when the delightful Romanian waiter introduced himself and made it clear that he was going to do his best to take care of our party. After a generous glass or two of Champagne and canapés, we were escorted down some nondescript stairs to the unexpected sight of the gorgeous Cloisters Restaurant. Wow! It is a beautiful vaulted space that looks like it's been lifted from an ancient medieval Abbey. The three course meal, which included wine, was fabulous. Truly fabulous. The chef and his staff had clearly had fun in the kitchen devising the menu. The chocolate 'bomb' with spun sugar fuse was a triumph! The restaurant wasn't very busy on this Friday evening so it felt like we were at a private dinner party. There was a discreet guitarist playing in the background, while the waiting staff made us feel like honoured guests. We will definitely be signing up for more events.

We went downstairs into the restaurant, had to say our name (we had a booking) and were told we have to go back upstairs to get our canapés and order our food. (Hint: either don't do that or have the waiter accompany guests.) So we went upstairs again, had to say our name and sat down in the foyer. Asked if we could sit in the lounge. They said there was no space. Two minutes later they changed their mind (there were about 5 empty tables). We got something tiny on some tiny toast, ordered our food and wine and sat there for 15minutes and decided we didn't want to wait any longer (hint: tell diners that their table is ready and accompany them downstairs again). So we walked downstairs and had to say our name. Again. AND had to find our name on the booking sheet. The waiter asked us: "Four?" Four what, our room number, the amount we have to say our name? Ah, our table number. Dude, if you don't know it, we don't either. He didn't know and had to call another waiter. We had to say our name. AGAIN. We got shown our table. No one came to open our wine. Thankfully it was screw top and we opened and poured it ourselves. The menu sounded promising. I had a crab and chicken sausage which was ok but a bit dry and you didn't taste the crab. My partner had scallops which were good. Portions pretty small though and we asked for bread. The focaccia was dry and not very nice. My main (fish with clams) was good. My partner's fish was too dry and the skin not crispy and the gnocchi were a bit stodgy. We had the cheese course and the plates got delivered (actually throughout the meal) without any explanation about what is what. We asked if they could bring us grapes that looked less like raisins and where fresh. We got a whole bowl of old grapes. Our grappa got delivered with a whiff of smoke as the waiter had just stepped outside for a fag. Gross. Anyway, they didn't charge us for the cheese which is decent but they tried to charge us for tea that never came and we were overcharged for the grappa. It was so bad, it was almost funny.

Stayed at bailbrook inn for the weekend and dinned at cloisters for breakfast twice and dinner once. First of all the restaurant is nicely decorated and tables well spaced out so you don't feel too cramped in. The service is noticeably better for dinner than breakfast, on both days for breakfast ordered toast along with drinks, after 4 tables receiving their toast before us and asking the waitress a number of times finally received the toast once the cereal and English breakfast had been eaten 50 minutes later. On the second day the same happened except this time they were slightly quicker with the toast 40 minutes. They really seemed to have no system for remembering who ordered toast and when. The breakstast itself was ok but the whole toast thing albeit very small became a little annoying happening 2 days on the trott. Dinner in the evening was from the set menu which really is very limited and for me was noticeably more basic than the a la carte menu which was very expensive indeed. The duck terrine for starter was bland and under seasoned. My main of lamb was excellent just needed more potato, my girlfriends fillet steak which was off the a la carte menu for a supplement was nice but overcooked, asked for medium rare got medium well. Dessert of chocolate fondant was really nice. Overall experience of this restaurant was could do a lot better for the prices they charge.
