Attending the work Christmas meal at first we couldn't get into the place as the front door was locked, but after a short wait in the rain someone came and opened the door we ordered a drink and waited for the rest of our party to arrive. Into the uninspiring dining room ( not very christmassy) starters came out and were just ok the main course was next again it was just ok but the vegetables were very hard as the chap next to me tried to spear a sprout on his fork only for said sprout to fire over the table. Desert was nice. One side issue we had was my wife decided to have a vape between courses, instead of the hotel staff coming over and having a discreet chat about not being able to vape this surly waitress came over and said a complaint had been made about her vaping and that the hotel will fine you £100 and it will set the fire alarm off. My wife was worried she had upset the other table dining in there so went and apologised to them but they didn't know anything about a complaint being made. It was clear to see that the member of staff had an issue and really needs to be better trained in customer service in fact the staff really need to have a smile and interact with their customers.

This was my first time in Cley Hall restaurant. The afternoon tea was well presented and looked good. A lot of cakes! The staff were on hand for extra supplies of tea or coffee and fruit juice for some. They even catered for a vegan. The price was reasonable too. An enjoyable afternoon tea.

We are local, saw this on their website and booked a table. Recently re-furbished, the hotel is very clean and smart with a warm welcome and lovely staff. To enjoy a relaxing pre-dinner drink in the bar/hotel reception area the arrangement of more practical seating and tables is essential. The Menu appears to be 'fashionably trendy' and we felt that the addition of a few more traditional dishes would better suit evening meals for locals. Dining/function room is very well furnished with excellent garden views. The food quality and service was very good and reasonably priced. We will be back. Thankyou!

A hidden gem. We booked the function room for a family party to celebrate my grand son's baptism. The room was spacious and light with plenty of room for the adults to relax and the children to play. The food was delicious and I thought that having an adaptation of afternoon tea for the children was thoughtful and well presented. The service was excellent and added to the lovely relaxed feel of the hotel. We all enjoyed spending time in the beautiful and peaceful gardens -perfect in the sunshine. Thank you to everyone for making Sam's special day so perfect. I would highly recommend Cley Hall to other family parties.

We booked afternoon tea for two. We had a warm welcome. It was a wet Monday so we had a table set up for us in the drawing room. The room looks out to the river welland. On warm days they offer the afternoon teas to be served in the conservatory at the rear of the property. There were a choice of sandwiches they do cater for any food allergies. Also a savoury choice of prawn vol u Vons's and small sausage rolls. Scones were served with clotted cream and jam. Also there was a plate of petit fours. Needless to say we had to ask for a doggy bag.

Again, having stayed in the hotel over the years I have dined in the restaurant on a number of occasions. Hotels never excite me but food really floats my boat. Regrettably, I have never had a memorable dining experience here, Spalding is far from the culinary epicentre. The restaurant falls in to the common problem I encounter, it is trying too hard, just do the simple things properly, excellent ingredients cooked properly speak for themselves. Could be so much better.

We have just been for dinner to celebrate our 46th wedding anniversary and although the menu looked interesting and the tables were attractively laid, the overall experience was not great. We ordered while in the lounge having pre-dinner drinks, and the waitress was unable to offer any advice on the wines. The one I selected to go with my main course was brought to our table in the bar while I still had my other drink. When we were taken through to the dining room we were just inside an open door, not very romantic and rather cold. I had ordered duck and although it was a generous helping, it was rather difficult to chew. My husband had risotto which he said was ok but rather stodgy. The waitress came to ask if we had finished when it should have been obvious from the food on my plate and the position of my cutlery that I was still eating. She was not able to tell me what the raspberry and chocolate torte was like other than that it had a crumb base, but I decided to try it. It tasted good but was a small slice of a chocolate torte topped by half a slice of strawberry, no taste or visible sign of any raspberries. My husband ordered the mixed fruit crumble which turned out to be apple ( unless it contained another fruit as well which looked and tasted like apple). The overall feeling was one of disappointment but we have yet to find anywhere in Spalding that is consistently good. We recently had a three course meal in London which was superb and was a similar price.

I dined here on their special Christmas Menu with friends from work. A party of some 20 diners. The menu is a good looking selection of traditional Christmas fayre and nice alternative options. The staff were friendly and quite attentive and our table was ready for us on time. I've read on other reviews that the portion sizes are quite meager and whilst they weren't massive, I'd say they were adequate. Our starters arrived and looked nicely presented, although the stuffed mushroom I'd opted for was more what I'd describe as topped. A warm mushroom served on a cold plate however. Minus score there but, here's a dilemma. If it had been served on a warm plate, the salad garnish would have wilted and the ubiquitous balsamic reduction would have "jammified". Mains were well presented but sauces lacked flavour and the croquet potatoes were like plasticine. The bowls of seasonal veg amounted to baton carrots and sprouts that were virtually quartered. No butter dressing, no frills. Not sure whether either really went with the sweet chilli salmon option! Desserts were once again nicely presented but once again the sauce let them down! Brandy sauce? Was it really brandy? Service throughout the meal was swift, pleasant and accommodating. One of our brethren really just wanted a bowl of custard for dessert. He never got it but that was one of just a couple of errors. Bearing in mind that we weren't the only party in and that some of our table asked for slight variations to the menu, I think they did well. As far as value goes, was the meal worth £24.95 per head? Well, I'd say not really. I've had better for less. Would I eat there again? Well, maybe if elsewhere was fully booked.

its the first time i've eaten at the restaurant under the new management. sadly, its likely to be the last time.Friday night 8pm, one might expect something of an ambience? i should have guessed when it took 3 attempts to get anyone to answer the phone to book the table it was going to be quiet? We arrived at 8.15 on friday evening to an otherwise empty bar, the hotel was offering a "friday night steak special" obviously word was yet to get round? The barman was polite and attentive and later took the requests for the meal, with no music we could hear clearly the banter with the kitchen staff as they broke the boredom of a friday night with no one to cook for? When we sat down for the meal i asked the same chap serving (jamie) to put on some music to add some ambience to an otherwise empty restaurant (one other couple were finishing their meal as we arrived) finally what would appear to be a radio in the kitchen was played giving whams greatest hits followed by some high pitched operatic tunes, neither of these would enhance an otherwise romantic meal?the food was quite acceptable with soup for starter and the steak meal served on a very small plate to enhance an otherwise typical "a la carte" portion. after finishing the meal we we left to wait for 15-20 minutes, thinking that Jamie had gone home for the evening i set off in search of him to be told he was "unlocking the toilets" (not only a barman cum waiter, but a plumber also?)at this point and the prospect of being served something that should otherwise remain in the bathroom, we left.its such a shame as the setting is wonderful, a lovely period place with fantastic decor. its a pity the service was such a let down as the food was quite reasonable.

Good, but not very good. In fact, almost average. Late Thursday night is probably not the best time to have dinner out in Spalding, however, Cley Hall were more than willing to take a booking at 20:30 h. Food quality was good, but the size of the dishes was almost meager. Starters were Ok, but the salmon fillets were more suited to a kids meal or to a low-appetite menu. Desserts (we had to, we were hungry!) were good. Service was acceptable, but we were the only table being served, so we didn't expect anything less. Atmosphere non-existent. Mood lighting consisted of a lamp with a bulb missing. Price rather on the high side for the size of the meal. Adequate for a business dinner, but will not be in a mad rush to go back anytime soon.

Cley Hall is a wonderful looking place to eat. The restaurant looks out onto the beautiful garden and the sun streams in. This is the second time eating there fairly recently and again we were the only ones eating. So if you're looking for a busy place, with atmosphere, look elsewhere. If you want the restaurant to yourself for a romantic meal, without paying to rent it all out, this is the place to go! We went for lunch and the starters were superb. I had mushrooms on ciabatta and it was clear that the produce was fresh and quality. My colleague had soup and enjoyed that. The steak was less impressive, although it was cooked to perfection, which I find is unusual in the UK. It was just a little grissly and would have benefited from having that removed. Service was outstanding; attentive, but not overbearing. The lunch time menu was a little restrictive, which would put me off returning, although admittedly there was probably something for everybody on it and it was very reasonably priced for the quality. Around 5 options per course with prices for 1 course, 2 or 3. I'm surprised it's never busier. Perfect place to take clients for business lunches.

Try the Cley Hall for lunch when you are in Spalding. There are a couple of extremely comfortable lounges to relax in, before considering what to choose from the reliable menu. The atmosphere in the delightful garden restaurant is totally tranquil. The mushrooms in puff-pastry starter was delicate, creamy and delicious. Madame put away an inspired steak salad while I thoroughly enjoyed baked salmon with a crust. Now, I rarely comment on quantities, but the portions were truly substantial, good quality vegetables provided and lovely sauces evident. House wines were also all smashing. I first went to the Cley hall in 1979, when my company and I used to entertain the local doctors, so I have a bit of a history. Lovely cooking, relaxed and attentive service and breathtaking value. They deserve to do well. You will enjoy it!

We hadn't been to Cley Hall for several years but had always had good experiences in the past. This occasion didn't disappoint and we will definitely return without leaving it so long this time!My husband and I visited on a Thursday evening. After having a drink and ordering our food in the comfortable lounge we were shown to the dining room where there were two other tables in. Despite the room being relatively small, they spaced the guests out. There was no background music but this wasn't a bad thing as there was the low hum of conversation at the tables and it was nice to hear ourselves speak compared to some places. We had three courses, all of which were excellent. The portion sizes were perfect and the food was of a very high quality and nicely presented. If I was going to be picky about anything, it would be that the bread rolls served were cold, and almost damp - like they had been taken out of the fridge or defrosted. I do enjoy warmed bread with a meal but this was chilled. The service was very good and we were immensely impressed with the meal. We have recommended it since and will definitely return with friends and with family.

We often travel to stamford to find a lovely restaurant for dinner as spalding does not have that much to offer in the way of quirky buildings with a holiday like feel. We have never visited the Cley hall before and we did so on the off chance of driving past- heading to Stamford, so we thought we would give it ago.Greeted at the door by a polite young lady led through to lounge for drinks and looked over the menu. - we did expect a little more from the menu a tad basic but saying that I loved everything on the menu so was stuck for choice from what there already was. When we were taken to the table we were offered bread with a choice of two... a lovely touch and then dinner shortly arrived. We ordered the Salmon and the Sea bass both beautifully cooked. We would defiantly recommend the Cley Hall and will be returning again.

Decided to book a meal for myself and the parents at the Cley Hall this lunch, as there was a special menu at a very reasonable price (£20 for 3 courses), and because the current head chef (Lee Clarke) seems to have a good reputation. I haven't used the accommodation so this is purely a restaurant review.I can honestly say that I was a but dubious at how good the food and service would be, as even at 3pm the venue was very busy, but I honestly shouldn't have worried. Food was served within a reasonable time, and the waiting staff handled the service very well. The presentation of the food, particularly the starter and dessert, was superb. It was obvious that the chef (and I presume his team) are passionate about the food they serve. The main course was an excellent traditional lunch, the parents having sirloin of beef, and myself having the slow roasted leg of lamb, all served with appropriate vegetables. The meat was excellent, and perfectly cooked to the standard I/we would expect. The accompaniments were also cooked to perfection. I can honestly say that for £20 for a 3 course meal, I was astonished. It would normally cost more for a 3 course meal at the Cley Hall, but given the experience today I'd say it is well worth the price premium. I'll definitely be using it again in the near future. As long as it retains the current team, I can honestly say I highly recommend it.

We've been here a couple of times before and it's been great, however our latest visit was not a great experience. Portions were small, presentation wasn't anything special, looked like meals I could of in nocked up myself as a quick tea at home, nothing special at all, certainly didn't look like a restaurant dining experience. Also, never come across a restaurant that stipulates on the menu if you want steak they need 48 hours notice! And even if they do, they should tell people when they book in as we had 2 of our party very disappointed on the night. The whole dining experience was also ruined by a group of loud, drunk locals sitting in the dining area and talking and swearing at the top of their voices so we couldn't even hear ourselves having a conversation. If people have paid for a dining experience no matter how bad that was, they should not have to put up with a table full of loud, swearing locals who were just there for the drink, keep the two things separate! Really dark and dingy in the restaurant, we struggled to read the menu due to how badly lit it was. The waitress started the evening by telling us what wasn't available off the menu, which in itself seemed odd at the beginning of the weekend to of already run out of so much. Needless to say this one bad experience overshadows previous good ones, it looks like the place has gone down hill, we won't be back! Must say though this is by no means a reflection of the staff they were lovely, it's on the owners!
