Had superb lunch at Clarette - their Prix Fixe menu is great value. The Seabass Ceviche and Pan Fried Sea Bream were both superb. Staff friendly and attentive and great atmosphere. Evenings get pretty booked up but lunch quieter - outside dining on the street if weather kind. Downstairs is more relaxed for drinks / food, upstairs more regular dining. Recommended for romantic dinner - but worked well for business lunch.

This is one of my local spots. I love sitting at the bar and chatting with the friendly staff. They are so welcoming and I’m greeted with hugs and kind curiosity when I haven’t been in for a period of time. Everyone is wonderful and always remember what I enjoy eating and drinking, I always feel like I’m their most important customer (which I am absolutely not). Pinotr behind the bar is one of my favorite people to see and chat with when I’m there, he’s wonderful. Love this spot!

Small, cosy place perfect for a quiet dinner. Rib eye was rare as advertised and the Creme Brulee to die for. Huge range of wines by bottle, glass or carafe. Not cheap though. We shared a bottle of red which pushed the bill over 200 GBP including the 13.5% service charge. Will be back next time we are in London for an evening.

Although I had been advised to try Clarette by people whose judgement I trust the quality of the cuisine still managed to blow my mind. As for the wine list, well it would be very surprising if it was not up to the tope given its owners. Nevertheless I was extremely pleasantly surprised to discover some true gems, including from some less obvious provenance (credit to Ricardo, the GM and sommelier) and WILL be back for a romantic evening to give some of these a go. The only down part of my experience was the £ 5 charge for baguette and butter: having been fortunately raised NOT eating bread before the dishes arrive I did not actually miss anything but this does feel a bit (very) "cheap" (even if I understand the market characteristics which make this happen). Oh well, perfection will be for some other time maybe ...

I wouldn’t recommend as the food was disappointing. 2 people ordered the French onion soup which was very over-seasoned. I started with the Bayonne Ham and remoulade which was nice enough but I wish there was more remoulade. The chicken with a mustard sauce to share was quite dry and sauce didn’t feel reduced enough. The potatoes were pretty bland as well. Wine was good but everything felt quite overpriced for the quality of cooking especially the chicken which was £72. Service was good.

This was one of three recommendations for lunch after a meeting in the vicinity. The prix fixe 3-course menu was really reasonably priced (£30/person). We ordered extras and even had a glass of Margaux each. The food was quite decent, eg the oysters, ox cheek bourguignon, Cornish day boat fish, the sides (veggies and potatoes) and the cheese board. But the strange thing was when they left out the goat’s cheese in the “Beetroot and Goats Cheese Salad”. They seemed under-staffed (the manager apologised and confirmed this ) and took quite a while to get back to us…with the goat’s cheese that was missing (!). No service recovery whatsoever. Hmmm. Probably so lean, they couldn’t do anything more!

More than disappointing I am sorry to say as I liked the atmosphere and the service was good. But, sitting in the wine bar area, the cushioning had collapsed. I would have expected the wine to be poured at the table - I like to look at the bottle, and what if I don’t like the wine? The menu was small which I like but not particularly inspiring. My rilletes de porc was a sad grey slab and no self respecting Frenchman would have sent out that bread. Baguette had seen much better days. As for the coq au vin, it was so far from being a CaV that I was speechless. My partner didn’t want a fuss and was hungry so he ate it despite my protestations, but I did enquire as to why it was basically roast chicken on a caramelised wine sauce? The answer, ‘it’s due to allergies that we cook it that way’. Sorry but if it’s not CaV don’t advertise it as so. Allergies? I was informed that the new menu had been up and running for a few days only and I hope that they changed it. My beef cheek was nice but by then we had run out positivity. What I had hoped would be a lovely evening after a flu filled Xmas I was more than upset and disappointed. I’m sorry to post this here as I did reply to the ubiquitous ‘how was your experience’ email and didn’t get a reply. Poor

A treasure of a find. I like independent restaurants and this one is full of character. The music was upbeat but on a volume where you had no problem chatting. Great for business, socials etc. What I also liked was the small food menu. Everything I tasted was flavoursome and delicious. The entree was smoked salmon with horseradish, crème fraiche, pickled cucumber and lightly toasted crispbread and I followed this with the fish of the day which was sea bass, served filleted with a crispy skin served in a Veronique sauce, grapes, vermouth, samphire and minature halved new potatoes. I also selected chips, which although delicious, I could have done without and winter greens in olive oil and garlic which definitely added to the dish. Desert was Tarte au beurre which was outstanding. The portions were perfect. The ambience was buzzy and service was excellent. Why 4/5 then. Clarette pride themselves not just on their food but their wines and cocktails too. Opting for wine at £16 a glass, I would have expected it to have been poured at the table so you could see what you were drinking. It’s also one to watch if you are the host, as noted on a nearby table, where the guest had ordered two glasses of a wine, not realising the cost of what had previously been ordered. £30 for three courses is beyond excellent value but it’s easy to triple that with alcohol. Also the springs in the seating had gone, both in mine and my client’s window seats.

We stopped by after hearing good things about Clarette, but the experience could not have been worse. The French onion soup we ordered had maybe 3-4 bites worth of lukewarm soup, to the point where we thought it was a joke at first, or they ran out and could only give us a 1/3 portion. The server said the beef steak was sold out right when we entered, and we enthusiastically ordered the venison (the alternative). When the entree came out, it was absolutely a normal beef steak. This was confirmed by the table next to us that ordered venison—a thick slab of venison looks and tastes very obviously different than a sirloin complete with a fat cap. It was a bit dry but not terrible, but it is wild that they would tell us a different entree than what came out. The ox bourignon had flavor, but it was extremely salty and by the end, inedible. The service was fine albeit extremely delayed at the beginning, and we just found the incorrect entree and the fact they forgot our wines for 30 minutes was absolutely inexcusable. I truly feel robbed of our £164.

The Private Dining Room on the 2nd floor is a beautiful space for a smallish group. We were 18 which is about the largest number you can have in the room. So much better than the many private dining room spaces in London that are in window-less basement locations. Our allocated waiter was very attentive but could have done with more support at the key times when courses were served to ensure that everyone was eating at more or less the same time. The food, when it came, was excellent, as I had expected. Everyone had a great time......made better by the privacy of the space. We booked a private room for a lunch celebration, and had a really lovely experience. The service was terrific and the food was delicious. I highly recommend it!

Nice dinner location, went with colleagues from work and was super fun. Food and service amazing. I had the Cote de beuf and the meat was flavourful and tender. Very nice cocktails and wine as well. Knowledgeable and nice staff. As desert had homemade madeleines which were the best I had in London.

Pleasant service but, on balance, we didn't feel the quality of the food was high enough to justify the prices.
