Probably one of the best French brasserie in London. Typical French meals are present on the menu - like the blanquette de veau - and other could be prepared on demand like the choucroute. The ceviche and carpaccio come with the signature dressing of the chef, they must be tried. The duck and the cote de veau are prepared in the typical French south-west way. Excellent and well priced. Decent wine list and and good service.

There is not an abundance of restaurants open on Christmas Day in London, so it was a pleasant surprise when we found out Brasserie Chavot would be serving a holiday set dinner, as we have wanted to try this restaurant for awhile. We couldn't have asked for a better meal ! 5 scrumptious courses up to Michelin standards. The White Bean soup with Foie Gras was outstanding as was the cured salmon served with the most surprisingly tasty cabbage slaw. The main course of roast turkey, though very traditional, was made special with a pistachio stuffing and delicious herbed potatoes. A couple of great desserts, a very good house red, and friendly service completed this great experience. Though this was a special holiday offering, I have to imagine that there everyday food and service would be just as memorable.

We went to this restaurant for dinner. It is a typical French brasserie. The food is good, hearty and traditionally presented rather than daintily sprinkled on your plate! The service as expected was very efficient yet unobtrusive. The prices were reasonable for one Michelin star restaurant. I like this restaurant because you can get good food in a very relaxed atmosphere - no table cloths, mosaic floor, wines by the carafe/pichet. The downside is that the wine-by-the glass list is very limited so if you are the only person who drinks, there is not much choice. Otherwise, the wine list is good.

The food here is exceptionally good. My wife ordered the snails as a starter, and instead of the usual garlic butter, it came in a sauce with meatballs which was amazing. The waiter recommended the duck for main course. Normally I wouldn't go for duck, but so happy I followed his recommendation, since this must have been the best duck I ever had. Only minor point is that service shows some French arrogance, but with this kind of food I can easily forgive them for that.

The food at Brasserie Chavot was simply delicious and all you would expect from a fine restaurant. The meal was a gift from one of the family but would not hesitate coming back here to dine. We enjoyed our evening in the Chavot very much. Everything was just right - the food, the service and the atmosphere. The menu is small but has just enough items to please even the most picky customer. Same goes for the wine, especially with the very knowledgeable French lady sommelier. A cold Monday night with a Birthday to celebrate one of my favourite eating places in London and always delivers.A short menu but with something for everyone but all great French dishes well seasoned and nicely presented, good service friendly and overall on top of their game albeit this evening we had a small problem with the billing however a lovely night out.We ate soft shell crab , hardly French but good to eat nice and crisp , the smoked eel salad was delicious and well made nice touch with the smoked piece of bacon, mains courses of lamb and my blanquette of veal so traditional and lovely and seldom seen on a UK menu was delightful.....all very very good. The bill was presented and after scrutiny was sent back as a double charge had been made on the dessert wine, it came back fast but yet another overcharge was spotted and again sent back, the manager hung back and left the young waiter to apologize. The eventual bill now included our desserts and coffee as complimentary to make up for all the messing around which was appreciated..however at this level £70 + per person I wouldn't expect silly embarrassing mistakes especially to be made twice by professionals...so big black mark here on the night.I shall return however its one of the few London restaurants cooking proper French cuisine in lovely surroundings and is to be applauded for sticking to its culinary guns...you must try it out they have a special lunch on offer during the week so give it a try and oh! make sure you check your bill.Good Eating Londoners.

I guess Chef Chavot takes his food pretty seriously. We ate there December 2014 and while it was one of the highlights of our meals in London, it started off with a weird outburst. We sat down when the place opened. A nice table. While we waited for menus and water, we heard shouting and screaming from the kitchen area! This must have gone on a good 10-15 minutes. It became evident that one guy was doing the shouting. I guess you would call it a rant. The waiter came out, and he was pretty nice and calm. I couldn't help but ask if everything was ok in the back. The dude said, "Yes." I asked, "Who was doing all that shouting?" The waiter said, "Oh, that was Chef." He smiled, as though this was not an unusual occurrence.I grew up with an inconsolable shouter, and I have encountered a few of these characters in my medical training, so that part of the experience put me on edge. You known how at the end of "Ratatouille" the reviewer guy takes a sip of the dish and is magically transported to his childhood? The ranting transported me to my childhood, but not in a good way, get me? I guess I relaxed by the end of the meal, but really, what's the point of putting on hospitality with fancy decorations, white tablecloths, wine and food if guests are treated to shouting to set the atmosphere?I've read "Kitchen Confidential" and realize the kitchen of a fine restaurant can be a high-pressure location, but still. Before service even starts, what could possibly be so bad that chef has to rant for 10 minutes? I can see at the end of a long, frustrating night, chef might "lose it" on a sous chef or a pastry chef for a returned dish, but service hadn't even started!Look, restaurants hide a lot of unpleasant realities from diners. Someone has to kill and butcher a lot of meat, for example. Diners go to restaurants to escape the reality of food preparation, not to be reminded of it. It's an illusion, we know, but it's one we are hoping will transport us to a higher experience that we will always treasure. The food is adequate. We had the soft shell crab, smoked nuts, salmon tartare, ribeye, and daube. The daube was probably the star of the show. Service started off attentive and dwindled as the place filled up. Wine was tasty.I think at the time we visited, Chef was basically living at the restaurant 24/7. The recent positive reviews hopefully indicate that he is getting some deserved time off.

This is brasserie cooking at "fine dining" prices so it has to excel to get to 5* level. It misses that I feel. Positives are that the service is very well run in terms of knowledge, response and pace of courses; the space between tables is good too; any back ground music was low; the place was busy creating a good atmosphere. But we got to close to £100 per head with "sides" at £5 each, wines marked up heftily and the high service charges you get added to the bill in London. We left feeling it was definitely on the high price side for what we got. It is linked to the Westbury Hotel whose name will appear on your bill.

Rereading the other reviews I'm afraid mine is somewhat of an outlier.Went in for a quick business/set lunch. The appetiser (spicy bean salad) was excellent. The main course choice between steak or salmon was less so. The steak anyway.Obviously the meat off the set lunch menu was not the greatest cut of meat ever - presumably, and hopefully, it is considerably better off the full menu. Even so for a rare piece of meat it was unnecessarily tough and lacking in flavour. The "topping"was gratuitous and unpleasant. The little gem lettuce cut from top to bottom was nice and crisp but the dressing was ghastly. On the plus side the fries were excellent. If anything the set menu should be a window into the full menu to entice diners to come back and sample the entire offering. Certainly it did not have this effect on me and if anything i would be inclined to avoid it.

Had an early morning client meeting here in August. It's in a great location in the heart of W1 and amongst some very impressive addresses. It seems to be attached in some way to the Westbury Hotel which is more or less next door and perhaps a breakfast option for hotel guests. We had a very friendly welcome and service was very good throughout and it was very busy at 8am on a Monday. Decor is very fine and the food was good however the stumbling block was the price, eg. £26 for a (small) full English plus £9 for a cappuccino and £21 for a very small smoked salmon plate with scrambled egg dish and a cup of breakfast tea is a little steep. I didn't really care too much as it was a client lunch and therefore was expensed but if I was paying myself I might have choked on my (very nicely cooked) scrambled egg.

We have dined at Chavot before and whilst no second visit anywhere has the freshness of the original experience, the excellence of the food was enjoyed in equal measure on this occasion. On our previous visit I selected the escargots because of Giles Coren's comment that they were the finest thing since the Norman Conquest and I agreed with his high praise, it is a stand out dish in my memory. This time, because my husband had so enjoyed it last time and because I wanted to try something different, I chose the soft shell crab to start. And it was divine. For my main course I thoroughly enjoyed the sweet flavours of lamb cutlets which were beautifully presented. My husband had been looking forward to having the cassoulet again and it was as delicious as he remembered. To finish, there is a great selection of cheese, served with tasty quince paste and fig chutney.

As we were due in London the following weekend, I did a quick search and bagged a table for Saturday night. It wasn't too busy when we got there but it was only 7.30pm and I think that Londoners are eating later these days. It did, however, get full by about 8.30pm and the atmosphere was brilliant. We were taken to a nice table just opposite the open pass and given menus. Drinks ordered we had a brief look. I say brief because both of us had already looked on line that afternoon, as we were already fairly sure about what we were having. The lovely waiting staff told us of the Asparagus starter special and the Pork Belly Main, which messed with my decision somewhat but I got through. Fabulous big green olives were ordered with our drinks which were amazing. The "Infamous" soft shell crab starter was crispy and flavourful along with an Aioli dip was declared the best ever. I had the Chicken Liver Parfait which was served on a board with some toasted country bread and a lovely Date and Fig chutney. It was light and very very tasty. Mains followed with the special Pork Belly with Garlic Sautéed Potatoes and a dressed Baby Gem lettuce served with a Dijonnaise sauce. It looked huge and I worried I wasn't gong to get through it but it was so tasty that I would have happily stayed there all night just to finish it. Husband had fillet of Sea Bass with a Ratatouille nicoise which was perfectly cooked and absolutely delicious. We ordered some green beans and a chick pea and chorizo side which were both excellent. We asked the sommelier to recommend a wine and surprisingly and refreshingly he didn't immediately point out the most expensive. Unusual for the Capital!! He recommended a fantastic Pinot Noir which went perfectly. Unfortunately, we were both far too full for dessert but I will not make the same mistake next time - and there will definitely be a next time and a next and a next! we eat out a lot (as you can see from my contributions) and this is one of the best meals I have had in a very long time. Eric Chavot serves up faultless French cooking and its no wonder that it is the haunt of foodies and chefs alike. Anyone that knows anything about food will appreciate just how good this is. Outstanding!

I went with some American friends to this resturant. The place looks great and they ate up the faux old-interior. The tables are very close and the staff spent a lot of time trying (and often failing) to hit people as they walked past. The menu is weird. A mix of French and English in the same names ("Les Nibbles"???, "cotettes d'agneau, crushed aioli potatoes". Stick with one language please. Or use French then explain in English. The food, it has to be said, was excellent. I had soft-shelled crab and a main of steak tartare, both of which were very good, if massively overpriced for what they were. The amount of toast with the steak was also very mean. The waiting staff seemed unable to read the table - not knowing quite when to ask for our orders or to take our food. One seemed very upset that one of our party didn't finish her food. The rest seemed to wander around quite a lot and didn't really know who was serving our table - we had at least three at different points in the meal.We had a really nice time and my American friends lapped it up. But I was left with the impression that a smaller, less pretentious place, with fewer customers who couldn't smile due to botox, would have been more fun and cheaper.

Very attractive restaurant with well executed dishes from a menu that also contains several unusual offerings like delicious snails served in a light cream foam and great deep fried soft shell crab. As a main, I had a rib eye steak, tender and cooked to perfection but just a little too thinly cut for my taste. Whatever else you order, make sure also to ask for a generous side dish of their chips. The best chips I've eaten in many years. Almost worth coming back just for them! Well chosen wine list. Friendly, helpful service. It's not cheap but well worth it. Warmly recommended.

We were listening to Saturday Morning Kitchen and James Martin mentioned their soft shell crab - it was to die for! (We watch that and go to the restaurants of the chefs rather than cooking the food). Husband had snails - amazing sauce and foam potatoes on them. Best grilled prawns and baby chicken. It was SOOOOO good we ordered dessert which we never do. Chef came out to say hello - charming guy from Normandy. Michelin star should go to this place not those foam and squiggles restaurants like Pollen St Social whose chef on same programme was utterly pretentious

You wouldn't expect it to be cheap in Mayfair, and that bit didn't disappoint ! Service was mostly good, but there were flaws in the order taking. Food was good, although my steak tartar starter, which I was assured would be the best I'd ever eaten, was really only fairly good at best.

The room is spacious and well laid out. Service is top notch and the menu offers a diverse range of options, from traditional French to some slight more exotic dishes. The wine list is varied and has a wide price range, allowing for every budget. Definitely a place to come back to.

One of the finest meals I have ever eaten. I ended up here as a surprise for my birthday, and it made my day. Impeccable service, fantastic wine, nice lighting, and the food was superb! I really really enjoyed my experience here. Highly recommended.

Dinner for two with one cocktail and one glass of wine each was £180. The food was lovely and the service was great, but I left feeling like it was about 20% too expensive without being exquisite. The cannette was incredible, but the broccoli a bit boring. Great stories behind some of the small touches, like butter from a tiny producer in the Pyrenees. The ambiance is great too - very old world brasserie if a rather Mayfair-ish group of diners.

I have named this entry as a 'Wonderful Evening' because from the moment my wife and I entered the restaurant we felt as though we had been regular and valued customers for a very long while. The welcome was excellent as was the service and food. Servinf staff were available at a moments notice but were never intrusive, in fact they were there when we wanted them. For Starters my wife chose the Escargots while I had the Soft Shell Crab, probably the best I have ever eaten and whenever I see it on a Menu I have it, for our Main Course we had the Cassoulet, a truly French Country Style dish, I could not fault it and it was a very generous portion with plenty of meat and not all beans as are some so called Cassoulet's. We did not have a Desert as we were both sufficiently fed. For wine we chose a bottle of Gavi, very reasonably priced and kept at the correct temperature. Even though the bottle was kept cool away from our table our glasses were never allowed to be completely empty yet they always p[oured the right amount, a commendable piece of service. We will be back and I would heartily recommend it to anyone wanting a truly French dining experience.

Well what can I say about my lunch yesterday at this wonderful piece of France in Mayfair. A superb experience from the friendly welcome to the tour of the kitchen and a chance to meet Eric Chavot and his team. Although I was dining alone I was made to feel very comfortable by all members of the team. Every aspect of the service was faultless, the Sommeliers knowledgable and special mention must go to the Maitre d Ludo who took great care of me all afternoon and took me on the tour of the kitchen, Pollen St Social's loss is certainly Brasserie Chavot's gain. The food was truly wonderful. A fairly straightforward menu which covered most food types you could want. I opted for the soft shell crab which was a very generous portion for a starter, the flavours were amazing and fresh and the seasoning spot on. Main was the Daube de Boeuf with chips and green beans, again very generous portions and the beef just fell apart as it should.Certainly not the cheapest meal but that was partly down to me pushing the boat out with the wine selections. I am not sure why some people are griping about paying for olives, nuts etc like it was a surprise. Yes sometimes they are complimentary in other restaurants but it is quite clear on the menu that you pay for them, I guess some people don't bother to do their research before visiting. All in all great experience, a massive thanks to Eric and his team, I will be back soon.

Bistro Chavot just oozes unpretentious and welcoming French food and wine know how. Then you get to the food and wine. The food is remarkable in that all the flavours involved are distinctive and at the same time the sum is greater than the parts: this was certainly true of the Cassoulet, veal and sea bass which we had. Starters are simpler but still top notch. The sommelier gave great advice and didn't just guide us to the most expensive wines. Here is also s good selection of wines by the small/large glass and carafe. Bistro Chavot is definitely on our short list for an excellent French meal in London. Not cheap, bug very well worth it!

Surly waitress. Korean/japanese sommelier utterly disinterested. Food very good brasserie style and good value for london standards however do not expect a wow factor. For same money i would recommend galvin bistro, warmer atmosphere, definitely better service and some wow dishes.

You know when you've had an unbelievably good meal when you can't stop thinking & talking about it for the rest of the day, and days later can still recall the exact flavour & texture of dishes. That's what you get at Chavots place. It really is no wonder that this is where all the top chefs eat when they're in town. The flavour & seasoning of all the dishes was honestly as good as I can remember anywhere (we had mackerel & potato salad, spicy bean salad & romaine salads to start...steak tartare & veal stew for mains).Just go, you'll remember the stunning flavours & be thinking about how damn delicious it was for weeks.

I ordered a 4 course meal. The bread and butter was very nice, so as the peppered hazelnuts. Scallop Ceviche is quite good but not too special. The the 3 main dishes are absolutely amazing. The duck is fantastic, very tender and juicy served with very nice diced potato. The sea bream I had here is definitely the tastiest sea bream ever. The pork chop is also really delicious with outstanding quality of pork and mustard sauce, however I do not really like the potato going with it. Overall it was a memorable experience having dinner here and I'll come back soon.

I was lucky enough to eat at 2 michelin starred restaurants in the week before I went as part of a family group to Chavot. I enjoyed the meal here just as much. It is a traditional brasserie, but the quality of the food wasf antastic. Even supposedly simple dishes like cassoulet or scallop ceviche were outstanding. My wife's duck was the best I have ever had. The service was friendly and professional. We will certainly go back

Very pretty, elegant brasserie in the heart of Mayfair. Charming service from the outset and, even though we were at the latest lunch sitting, with just a few other diners, we didn't feel at all rushed. Food was well prepared and tasty and rather more robust in both nature and presentation than other Michelin restaurants we have visited. My query about the mushrooms was quickly addressed (I have a severe intolerance to certain varieties) and a helping of lovely, sweet chantenay carrots substituted, which matched with the canette perfectly.. We certainly did not go hungry: in fact, of the four of us, I was the only one to plump for a dessert (delicious, light rum baba with pineapple shavings and a big quenelle of creme chantilly but just one criticism - couldn't taste the rum at all!). Thoroughly enjoyed the meal and the ambience.

If one goes to eat somewhere with a French name it is not unreasonable to expect it to be largely french. We had a Korean sommelier who was abrupt and hardly spoke to us . We were with some French speaking guests and we were at least assigned an excellent French speaking waiter from Nice. This made the difference in our overall experience. The food was good , although the toast with the salmon starter was burnt. The French fries with the main were over salted and inedible. Are you trying to be a French Brasserie or are you pretending? If you are a Brasserie then charge Brasserie prices and not restaurant prices and get a French sommelier if you think a Brasserie needs one!!! As a Mayfair restaurant the owners would do well to look at the entrance . The awning is discoloured and looking very dirty and tired. Overall the staff were polite and attentive.

This was a disappointment. Instead of a bustling Paris type brasserie with unpretentious meals at reasonable prix fixe menu prices, instead this was overpriced food in an narrow atmosphere free room.Steak frites came without frites, so the (uneatable, cold, oversalted) fries are extra. The place seems to be designed for tourists or those staying at the hotel, who know no better. One would have thought that London had risen above this sort of fake experience combined with mediocre food.

While other Cocotte locations are usually quite good, this particular establishment lacks on the vision: the food was bland, our chicken tasted and looked like yesterday’s reheated batch, the chicken soup, while hearty, definitely had the taste of Maggi cubes, the air conditioning condensation was dripping on the plates on some of the tables, personnel was mopping the floor on a near-permanent basis and the entire restaurant had a feel of a run-down fastfood, absolutely not managed nor maintained up to Cocotte’s standards. Sadly, we ended up back home with a bout of explosive diarrhea! A costly affair, with our terribly disappointing late lunch costing over £90.-

Saint Jacques is a lovely restaurant. Staff were helpful and welcoming. It is not a tourist restaurant. I had two appetizers (grilled scallops and mushroom soup) that were excellent and plentiful for a dinner. The Crepes Suzette was fabulous! The noise level is low which allowed for us to have a quiet conversation.

Poor before we had even eaten. Taking my Mum to enjoy Beef Wellington, her favourite dish, I phoned ahead a few times to ensure one was available. Just before I arrived at the restaurant, they confirmed it was available. We sat down in an empty restaurant, rather inefficient staff. We were told there was no Beef Wellington, so I pointed out that one was put by. Then we were told they could make one, and it would take 40 mins, to which we said would that be 40 minutes or could it be longer ? On visiting the toilet I heard the chef say ‘if they wanted one, it might take 45 minutes’. Nobody wants to be considered a nuisance in a restaurant, so we decided to take our custom elsewhere. Having travelled all the way from Hampstead to enjoy Beef Wellington, my Mum’s favourite dish, we left & ate elsewhere. Sadly not beef Wellington.
