City Road Inn in Manchester

Great down to earth, traditional pub, with plenty of screens for sports, very friendly service and a near perfect pint of Guinness. Doesn’t look much from the outside, hence it’s often overlooked. Gents toilets are a bit grim if I’m honest, but that seems to be an essential feature of an old traditional English pub. Also, in case you’re a football fan, this pub, like the city of Manchester itself, is RED! 😛😍 UPDATE: our new local stitched us up today, for the manchester derby. We bagged a table and were enjoying a pre match drink, to then be told that they weren’t showing the united game. (They did tell us when we arrived, but that’s the usual joke from the bar staff). What kind of united pub does that to its regulars? 🤔🤷‍♂️ Leaving with less than 30 minutes to KO we had little chance of finding a spot in another pub, so we had to watch at home. So, let me take back my comment about this being a united pub. It’s absolutely not! I’m sure they lost a few customers who went today to watch the match. Three here that won’t ever be bothering the City Road Arms with our loyalty and hard-earned money. Adiós! 👋😡 I won’t miss the disgusting gents toilets 🤮

Good spot for a pint on way to Trafford. Plenty of screens and all sport channels.

Decent enough boozer, quick bar service, only one kind of red wine and most of the draught beer was off. Good atmosphere, the place was busy, me and the partner had an enjoyable shouted conversation, felt right (the shouting) for a drink after work. The pie and pea options look good, might try that next time.

I'm sorry but you can't charge £24 for 3 single drinks because your draft is off and you pump the prices up due to using bottled coke. Not my problem and wasn't prewarned. Utter disgrace.

Bartender was on one with the music! DJ extraordinaire! Loads were up dancing which made for a great atmosphere!

This is my favourite pub in Manchester, landlady is brilliant and is supported by great staff. Second time we have been and we were welcomed back with open arms (even though we’re LUFC fans😂). Also the pies are class, I would recommend this pub to everyone.

Christmas Pie is the best in this quaint pub in a festive spirit and decorations. Very friendly staff and small enough to feel homely. We tried the Christmas special pie 🥧 which was delightful at a very economical price which came with mash, peas and gravy. Definitely worth a visit to start off the festive season.

I am a Mancunian born and bread, but I was a City Road Inn virgin. I must have passed by hundreds of times. Together with a mate I called in. We received a very friendly welcome. Two Guinness were ordered. The barmaid, Kay introduced herself and said she would bring our drinks over. We were only going to have a couple but ended up staying for the afternoon. Great, friendly Mancunian place to slake ones thirst. Very handy for the Bridgewater Hall too. It's halfway between Oxford Road and Deansgate railway stations, so easy to get to.

This pub is great. The workers are very friendly and kind, you could tell the other customers were regulars, all very nice. The food is good and although they only have pizzas and "pies", they also have vegetarian options. The beer and cider are delicious and served fresh. Why else?

Only called in for a pint after a gig at O2 Ritz, didn't stay long, didn't have food, nice traditional pub, not far from several gig venues, so could be a great meeting point, enquire as to food times, etc. Nice cold lager!😎👍😁, nice friendly lady served us.

Every time we visit this great gem of a bar we are never disappointed. Went for the FA cup final, not planned to stay however, the vibe that Kay has generated and the best Guinness I’m Manchester we reserved a table nipped out for an hour and came back for the rest of the afternoon. Even sat with some rival supporters. If anytime in the city centre you have to visit this place.

A fantastic place!!! They let us in (for lunch...) with a 6 year old, which is quite difficult in these parts. Very kind and friendly, we had lunch with typical pies. Truly a beautiful experience.

What an amazing pub with amazing staff and an amazing atmosphere, me and my wife got talking to a couple of German lads here and even the landlady and bar staff were getting involved and having a laugh. Definitely going to return here on our next visit.

I have just been here tonight with some friends to watch the football and with us all being from liverpool we wasnt sure what to expect, we asked if they would be showing the liverpool match which was slim chance as the manchester united match was also playing too at more or less the same time, but the pretty irish girl on the bar was very lovely and helpful and asked the manager if it was possible to put the liverpool game on for us which the lovely manager put the game on for us in the backroom, the manager and staff was all so welcoming and great to talk with, we think this will now be our go to manchester pub whenever we are up in the area

As an American I had my first ever English pub football watching experience here. I also had my first meat pie. The gravy was delicious and it was a good time.

I love this place.. Friendly, charming, beautifully decorated, old, and modest at the same time. Wonderful service..curiously enchanting public..

The service was second to none. It was a bit quiet when we went but we got table service for drinks and the staff were super friendly and a good laugh. We spent a few hours here on a Saturday lunch day drinking session and we'll come again.

Went for a drink and stayed all afternoon. The landlady Kay was a joy to chat to , the atmosphere was amazing and friendly & it serves the BEST Guinness in Manchester . Thanks Kay and your team for an awesome day .

What a fantastic bar. First time being in this area of Manchester and first stop after getting off the Metrolink. Was met by the lady that ran the bar, Kay, absolutely wonderful lady. Made us feel so welcome and guided us around the city where we wanted to go. Great advice which we took and visited some good places. Her staff were really friendly and it was such a homely place. Quite busy aswell so very popular. We said we would pop back later before we got the tram back which we did and they remembered us and Kay also remembered our names which we thought was so nice. She invited us to sit with her and we had a really good chat. I could have sat there for hours. Would highly recommend and will definitely eat here next time as the menu looked good. Such a friendly bar, very busy and made to feel really welcome. Will definitely be going back next time in Manchester 😊

Visited this pub around 2pm. First impressions were good. Old decor pub that has embraced the Sky Sports theme televisions everywhere. I don't think it would be so good if a full game was on. Very pleasant bar staff, welcome with a smile and a chat. Nice selections of drinks on hand. They do basic pub pies with mash, peas and gravy if wanted. A nice place to visit off the beaten track right by Deansgate tram stop and station. All in all well worth a visit.

If you’re a guest to Manchester or a local who for whatever reason has not yet visited the City Road Inn, this pub is a must. Fantastic traditional pub decor with a well stocked bar, perfect Guinness, full sky sports with loads of screens and the most attentive staffs All managed by the fantastic landlady Kay who always takes time to chat to guests giving a warm welcome as well as wishing them well on their way when the leave. Oh yes…… and the pie and mash….. you have to try the pie and mash. My hubby Pete and I always call in when out in the city, our biggest issue is that we struggle to leave!!

Fantastic <3 friendly and considerate staff, the best pies you have ever tasted (Kate and Sidney pie), great atmosphere, excellent ventilation, a great range of alcoholic beverages, lovely outdoor seating area (especially in summer), attracts nice humans! A great establishment of course!

Honestly, words can't really describe my encounter with the city road inn. Came up from London and just fancied a lovely pint in a normal pub with good people and good atmosphere. I got that in abundance but the best part of it was my pie and mash. To die for! The mothership was unbelievable! Pie, mash, minted mushy peas, gravy, crispy shallots and cheddar... made my whole night was unbelievable. Definitely go to this boozer if you're in the town. Lovely lovely lovely!

Expensive and low quality drinks and especially food, £10 for dr oetker frozen pizza. Run down inside, weird opening hours. Avoid Staff were friendly but does not make up for the rest of the rubbish pub

Whenever we come to Manchester we always call into this pub . Kate and her team are just fantastic , unbelievable customer service , Kate makes a point of knowing your names and remembering them , we just can’t rate this pub and the amazing team highly enough . Marvellous old-school Manchester pub. Superbly run by Kate and is famous for its Pieminster Pies and being opposite the old Hacienda. Worth a visit on a Manchester pub crawl.

Lovely pub was there last Saturday celebrating 2 x 60th birthdays with friends. The hosts went out of their was to make sure we had a good time setting aside an area just for us, with waitress service on our drinks. Will definately call in again if back in Manchester.
