Visited yesterday for dinner. Had the tasting menu and was not disappointed. We have eaten at many Michelin Star Restaurants and this is definitely at that standard. Food was amazing including fabulous John Dory course and Fillet of lamb. Catered for my gluten free wife brilliantly. Couldn’t speak highly enough of this venue. A very talented kitchen team.

We have stayed at the Millenium many times and have dined at Cilantro on each stay. This visit however was a let down over those previous. The hotel side of things was fine, no complaints there but normally the food and service at Cilantro is superb and way above what you expect to find in a stadium hotel. However, each course ( 7 course menu Gourmand ) up until the main was bland and had little to offer . Normally this is quite opposite. The main, would have been really excellent were it not for the steak being over cooked and therefore too well done by far for fillet. A shame as the cut of meat was superb and even overcooked was still better than some restaurant meals I have had. The accompanying dauphinoise potatoe were excellent as were the vegetables and jus. The pre- dessert was delicious and went blinding well with the dessert wine and the final dessert was also very good. But what happened to everything else served before the main course? Service, barr that from the young waiter ( Michael?) was again, no where near as slick and proffessional as previous visits, quite disappointing. Thanks to Michael our evening was rescued as he was chatty and proffessional in his work. We may return to see if things improve but with new Thai owners now owning the hotel I think that Cilantro may be on its last orders.

Staying at the Millennium Madejski I thought I would try the restaurant which wasn't busy, not a good sign, staff stood around chatting, I ordered ribeye steak, medium when it arrived it was warm and not hot and appeared more medium well done the fries were cold and were as though they had been cooked and left standing, a very mediocre course I'm afraid. The desert much better a raspberry tart with cream, fresh and tasty with a nice shortcrust pastry base. The staff were friendly not the most attentive given it was quiet and when the drinks were served (coke) it was spilled on the table with no attempt to clean up. Could certainly do better

We have always thoroughly enjoyed our visits here, especially when they have he had the dinner and over night for £100. The food is absolutely fabulous and not overpriced for the quality. The restaurant itself is beautifully decorated and is warm and welcoming. It can sometimes feel a little empty and lacking atmosphere which is the only thing that lets it down. The Jazz cafe is also worth a visit, however it is often frequented by the more mature clientele.

Having tried to book several other restaurants in Reading (but full due to Christmas bookings) we ended up at The Cilantro at The Millennium Madejski. We had booked a table for 7pm and there was no one else in the restaurant when we arrived. There is a stylish bar area where you can sit and enjoy a pre-dinner drink. On the menu you can either choose the 7 course taster menu at £50 per person or from the A La Carte - 3 courses £49 per person. We chose from the A La Carte. Bread is offered prior to starters and it is warm a delicious. We were also served an amuse bouche of a warm, creamy cauliflower soup with a crunchy walnut. It was utterly delicious and a nice added extra. I ordered the terrine for starters and it was meaty and tasted fabulous - just needed a little fresh cracked pepper to make it perfect. We also had the smoked salmon for starters which was shaped as rose on the plate and looked so inviting when placed on the table. For main we had the sea bass and the fillet of beef (and additional £5 is charged, per person, for the fillet of beef). Both dishes were beautiful and full of flavour. Following the main course we were served a mouthful of delicious mouth cleansing sorbet which was beautifully refreshing. So much so we ordered the chocolate mousse bar for dessert and it was heavenly with crunchy bits of meringue - and looked like a piece of art on the plate. Wines and drinks are reasonably priced and the service is discreet and friendly. Perhaps not an obvious place to go for dinner - as it is away from Reading town center - however, a super good choice!!! Highly recommend. We will return.

We went here for a family meal. It was a seven course meal. Starting with canapes of pheasant pate and artichoke. Two things I hadn't tried before and were delicious. Followed by an amuse bouche which was a cream of celeriac soup and pickled walnut, I wasn't so keen on this and then the fish course of cured salmon with salmon parfait and grapefruit sorbet. The parfait was nice, but again wasn't keen on the this course. (I don't particularly like cured salmon or grapefruit). After that course, the food really picked up for my personal tastes. Another fish course of john dory and scallops was amazing as was the next course of chicken. The dessert was an apple tarte tatin, which again was delicious and then coffee and petit fours. Overall the services was excellent and the food was very good. The girl working at the bar was very helpful and kept our party filled up with drinks and let us know when the bar was closing to see if we wanted anything else. She was really helpful. I would definitely eat here again, although I would try and not have the set menu incase there were items that weren't to my taste.

Mr Madejski and a companion were occupying a table when three colleagues and I attempted to bag a table just after 8.30pm last Thursday evening. There were no other customers in the restaurant and all the other tables were laid. The Maître D informed us that it we would have to wait at least 15 minutes for a table even though, as already mentioned, the restaurant was utterly devoid of any customers apart from the man who has so generously allowed his name to be associated with the neighbouring football stadium and the hotel complex. From the embarrassed look on the face of the Maître D, my colleagues and I soon realised that we were being asked to wait for Mr Madejski and his companion to finish their meals before we would be allowed to cross the restaurant's threshold. Being hungry, and of course not wanting to spoil Mr Madejski's evening, my party went next door for a meal in the hotel Cafe. That restaurant was not devoid of customers but unfortunately my meal was devoid of any discernible taste. I trust Mr Madejski's meal was worthy of a good review - unfortunately I will never know.

As some previous reviews have said this is really a hidden gem. Hotel restaurants aren't always great but this is truly an exception. From start to finish the whole experience was superb. We were celebrating our 10 year wedding anniversary and they made the occasion very special and memorable for us. Food was excellent throughout with some extra surprises including a chefs appetiser, an amuse-bouche and a pre-desert. We felt it was very good value for money, as we have often paid a lot more in the past for food of the same quality at other restaurants. We treated ourselves to the chateaubriand, which did have a £5 per person supplement but was worth every penny, it was delicious. Our waiting staff were attentive, knowledgable and friendly. In fact one waitress was clearly new but she was professional and being well trained by the other staff, which you would expect from a restaurant of this quality. She was completely in control of what she was doing which was nice to see.I see others have commented that the restaurant lacks atmosphere if there's not many people using it. There was another table of 2 and a table of 6 which was more than enough to create an atmosphere in what's a relatively small restaurant. I like to judge a meal out on the whole experience which includes decor/atmosphere in restaurant, service and quality of food and drink. I can honestly say it was all faultless and would urge others to try it to keep it going. Finally, thank you very much to all staff and chefs for making our celebration very special.

Cilantro is a classy place. Nice space between tables and good lighting. We were lucky enough to go into a completely empty restaurant which is not always a good sign. We were greeted by a lovely lady who was front of house for the evening and she also introduced us to Leah who was training that evening. There was lots of interaction about the venue and the food and the amuse bouche were wonderful. We both had the Lamb which was divine, if a little bit small. I have never seen a loin only three 1 inch pieces but it was melt in the mouth delicious. The cheese board to finish was nicely thought out with a range of flavours and plenty of biscuits. The two let downs were the cost of the wine, way over the top. Obviously Reading now being a suburb of London it attracts the prices. Secondly the Port. No crusted, just LVB. And it was the only time that the front of house perhaps let herself down a little because she did not know the difference.Overall if I am back in the area I would go to the restaurant again, just the cost of wine that stopped this venue being excellent.

This is self service, & not sure its actually worth the extra. The bedroom was fine, typical business style hotel room, so clean, functional, but not particularly interesting. The restaurant had a party of 13 in who were fairly lively, but we didn't mind that as it added a bit of atmosphere, the only other diners were a few couples.Food was very good & the various courses were interesting, although we also felt the desert was a little disappointing.Definitely would recommend for this price & we will return.

Ate here in October 2012 with friends on a Saturday night. The restaurant was actually pretty full, the service was good and the food was not bad at all. It's certainly at the lower end of the fine dining range but for the price it is very good. You also get Amuse bouches and pre desert (the pre desert was excellent). We all had the Gourmand menu which is well priced. The lamb main was very nice, some unusual dishes with an Indian theme. The actual desert was pretty poor imo although others on the table though it was ok. Recommended if you fancy a reasonably priced Gourmand Menu but don't expect to get Michelin starred food.

Quiet on a Friday night, but that meant excellent service with some of the food being absolutely exquisite. The extras were very much appreciated : a couple of canapes, a truly wonderful amuse bouche of butternut squash with sage foam, palate cleanser of pear sorbet, pre-desert of vanilla ice-cream with cherry sauce and strawberry pieces - none of these are part of the meal!!! Only downside was that the excellent Welsh lamb main was a bit sparse. I mentioned that at the end of the meal and they listened. Was slightly embarrassed as my well sized grouse main was perfection - did not hand over to my Husband!! One thing that sets Cilantro apart from the competition in the area is that not only can you have wine by the glass, but are offered a glass size which included a small 175 ml (tomorrow will happen) glass. Leaving the accompanying wine choices to the waiter worked very well and the price per glass was very reasonable. A very happy 33rd!!! wedding anniversary for us. We will return.

I had the vegetarian version of the 7 course "menu gourmand". The presentation was absolutely first class, with each dish beautifully presented and garnished. The service was impeccable, although as we were the only table dining on a mid-week evening, you would expect the staff to be attentive! All the dishes were good, but I especially liked the blue cheese soufflé, which was served with apple sorbet and a salad of tiny herb leaves. The cheese risotto was very rich, but as the portions are extremely small, you don't feel overwhelmed. Most disappointing was the vegetarian main course which was just a collection of very beautifully presented boiled vegetables, which after pumpkin tortellini, and the aforementioned risotto and soufflé, was rather dull. The food here is really very good and quite different to most restaurants that you'll find in Reading.

I thought this was a missprint when I saw it advertised on the hotels website (Millennium Madejski Hotel) but it wasn't and it turned out to be the best buy I have made in ages.I started looking for somewhere to go as I wanted to cheer up my girlfriend and a business colleague suggested this hotel as he has stayed here several times through work.Basically, the hotel room was about £75.00 which I thought was a good price for this standard of hotel anyhow but then I looked closer and noticed the "Cilantro Offer"The offer is for a table for 2 people (but you could book for 3 couples and sit together on one of the round booth tables) to have a 7 course set menu which usually sells for £49.50 per person and then to stay in the hotel for the night. We arrived at 11am and as our room wasn't ready we were invited to use the leisure facilities whilst they sorted out the room but we saved the jacuzzi for later in the day as we planned to go shopping and figured we would need the relaxation more at about 6pm - lol. There is a bus service just outside the hotel which goes into the town centre so this saved on trying to find our way around and on parking in the Oracle too :-)Anyhow, back to the dinner in Cilantro, the service was excellent but unobtrusive the food was delicious (my GF loved the Fois Gras and my favourite was the John Dory) and the whole atmosphere was just perfect. We rounded off the evening with a trip to the Jazz Cafe (just a 2 minute walk around the corner) with some complimentary tickets given to us by the manager in Cilantro and finished off the weekend with a leisurely breakfast in the hotels other restaurant the following morning.I can't wait to go back with friends next month :-))On the Cilantro offer it makes it cheaper to stay in a luxury hotel after dinner than it is to get a cab home (even in my home town) so it sure gets my vote.

I went to the pub for 1 hour on a Friday. The barman remembered my drink when I went back in on the Saturday. It was a comfort to me to know that I was remembered

Lots of selections for vegans - I had a really good avocado on toast with chilli oil but there's also vegan sandwiches and toasties.

Great service, staff are friendly and really make your night. Drinks are delish, and the food is to die forrr! Myself and my friends thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. We often struggle to find places where we feel comfortable having fun at our supposedly “old ages” but there was groups of all ages in here so we didn’t feel as though we stuck out which was great. Thank you Revolution we will definitely be coming here again!
