Cielito Restaurant in Runnymede

Cielito's restaurant provided an excellent setting for an evening with both friends and family. We began the evening with a sampling of different drinks (strongly, strongly recommend the watermelon margarita with mezcal instead of tequila) accompanied by guacamole & chips and tacos dorados (ordered both chicken options with green and red sauces). The guacamole delivered with a well-balanced mixture of ingredients (and just the right level of lime). The only constructive criticism would be that of the corn chips (they lacked the requisite crunch of those found in Southern Californian establishments). After the antojitos/appetizers, we progressed to the grilled beef tacos, prawn tacos, enchiladas verdes o rojas (chicken) and fajitas. Cielito's Chef, Alvin, delivered once again on all four fronts. Everyone expressed satisfaction with their entrees and the solid results set the stage for the final course of postres/desserts. Unfortunately, Cielito's signature 3 leches offering was unavailable, so we opted for the churros (with creamy caramel sauce), flan, and Mexican coffee. The churros were cooked perfectly with a balanced covering of both sugar and cinnamon. Everyone enjoyed the flan, but some wished it were bigger in size. The Mexican coffee was outstanding with a perfect balance of espresso, veritas rum, and cazcabel coffee tequila. All in all, I would most definitely return to this establishment if ever back in Virginia Water. My thanks once again to Chef, Alvin, and his wonderful staff for providing a truly memorable dining experience.

I wish I’d checked these reviews before going. It was the worst Mexican food I had. No flavours. They charge you if you ask for more sauce which was a surprise on the bill. I guess there’s a reason they give you such small portion in the first place. The guacamole was a tiny portion and the tortillas chips they came with looked like they were from a cheap supermarket . The refried beans - portion and flavour were a joke. Again straight out of a tin tasted awful. The prawn tacos was the only decent item. Oh and the strawberry magaritas. When I asked the owner why they charge for sauce he waved 5 quid in my face. No thanks. Put it on your menu if your going to charge for it. Terrible.

We had lunch at this delightful Mexican restaurant. Alvin was very helpful. We loved the prawn tacos…Highly recommended.

Would not reccomended Feta with Mexican … really Enchiladas not baked .. really Fajitas wirh feta .. really So disappointed with this

Popped in on a whim for some lunch with a mate. Having been unable to get an evening reservation last time I popped my head in the door, I was pleased to note it's a bit quieter in the day. The staff were warm, service was quick & the food was probably the most authentic Mexican food I've had in the UK to date. However the portion size was too small for the price.

Popped into this eaterie after reading a review from my phone sounded ok.well to be honest it's a very small corner shop size place around 5 tables inside a hole in wall where food comes through 3 very cheap uncomfortable iron tables and chairs outside that leave your bum looking like a waffle! Service not very good 2 very young girls who knew nothing about the beer the wines and the food really. Took ages to get a drink longer to place an order. We ordered what they called tapas on there site but actually starter's of very small size for between £5 /£8. 3 of these a pulled beef on a taco with sour cream and salsa 3 of obviously not big tasty enough but very small almost canapés? Then some cigar sized taco things with tough chicken inside soft cheese and gravy pourd over 3 of again not very big! And finally prawns laying in lime juice cucumber and radishes..cold.! Not nice at all so strong of neat lime better in a gin and tonic still can taste the lime now.to drink a chilli margarita that could run a rocket engine! Wow hot !! Bum like a bullet wound next day! Cheek to add 12.5 % tip to bill that I refused to pay as girl didn't wright anything down and I swear the prawn thing wasn't what I wanted..a suggestion to staff wright orders down? Over £50 for above and we went straight to fish and chips shop as we were starving...not great food not good service not for me..

Having previously enjoyed the quality of a take away from this restaurant, we booked a table for 3 on a Thursday evening. The restaurant wasn’t busy on arrival, we sat outside, it was immediately apparent the table hadn’t been cleaned. We had to ask for the table to be wiped and then ask for menus. Whilst this was being done I went to the bar to order drinks & asked for a glass for the beer. The drinks were delivered, but without a glass for the beer, I asked for one, it never came, so I had to go to the bar to ask again. When the glass was delivered, it was hot, straight out of the dishwasher, so I gave up on the glass and drank from the bottle. The waitress came back & we said we were ready to order our meal, halfway through our order, she said she couldn’t remember everything, so had to go back in to get an ipad & we started ordering again. The waitress struggled to answer questions about the food. It took a very long time for our order to be delivered. At one point a male server came out, I asked if he was the manager, he said yes, promptly disappeared and came back with extra corn chips. Portions were small & expensive. The service slow & staff not engaged. At no point were we asked how our meal was. We felt disappointed, the service poor, but not bad enough to complain, in any case, the staff were so disinterested that there seemed little point in trying to complain. Sad, there are already too few restaurants & pubs in the area. We certainly won’t be back in a hurry.

We hadn’t been since last September so was curious to try the restaurant again - and our 3 adult kids were gagging for multiple margaritas! All of the food was really excellent - particularly the beef tacos which were melt in the mouth. Wonderful staff, spotless loo too! We had a starter and a main each, 3 pitchers of margaritas, bottle of wine - about £50 a head. Great value we thought. Nice buzzy atmosphere too - nothing not to like!

Went with the family for Mothers Day lunch. The restaurant is small with just a few tables but nice and intimate. Staff are super friendly and helpful. Food was amazing. Proper authentic Mexican food, not your typical high street standard - this is so much better with delicious flavours. Cocktails are lovely too. Will definitely be returning!

Was really disappointing as we love authentic Mexican food, which is hard to find in UK. We thought, as it is a family restaurant and not a chain, we might get a decent meal and cocktails made from scratch. Alas, the food was very average and bland, portions were tiny and the cocktails were pre-mixed, probably with concentrate. Wasn't cheap either! Feel a bit ripped off

I’ve been here several times now. Food is always very fresh and tasty. Booking was easy. Lovely atmosphere. Thoroughly recommend.

Such a shame we were all so excited to try this place.. the cocktails were amazing the staff were really friendly however the food was just not worth the price.. we had a few mixed starters that were really good but it came to the mains and it was just bad the chicken tasted really odd.. I ordered the chicken enchiladas and they were nothing like enchiladas it was a little bit of plain chicken thrown in a wrap with black beans on the side this was 20 pounds just for two wraps with a little chicken in, we paid it as we felt bad to complain as it’s such a new place and mistakes happen. Admittedly we should have said something but we didn’t want to cause any issues, the manager said after we had paid he noticed we hadn’t eaten one of the mains and stated he would give us a meal on the house next time, appreciate it however doesn’t detract from a very expensive meal which was fairly basic. We most likely won’t be returning.

Great hidden gem in Virginia Water...me and my girlfriend popped in last night to check the place out after hearing about it through friends. Would definitely recommend the Watermelon Margaritas. We had a selection of starters followed by the beef and pork tacos along with the beef fajitas. The beef was delicious, it's not advertised on the menu but after chatting with one of the staff members it turned out it was Wagyu, which made sense seeing how great it was. Lovely friendly staff and a great atmosphere, highly recommend checking this hidden gem out!

We held a joint bday party for our girls at this stylish and colourful local gem of a restaurant. A superbly warm welcome from Alvin and the team and our girls Plus friends had a fabulous time. Great food and warm hospitality-and for my part, margaritas worthy of the best bars in LA. Thank you for transforming this corner of VW into something special. Looking forward to returning for a quiet dinner, without our piñata!

We originally tried to book online in August however there were no evening bookings available. As we were passing, we looked in and there was plenty of space and we ate there. Ditto a week later. During the second visit, my wife booked her book club of 8 to visit on 30th Sept as none of the others had tried it yet. I was with here during the booking so can vouch for its accuracy and their acceptance. Imagine her surprise when she received a text reminder her of the booking shortly before 30th August. She quickly rang them and rebooked for 30th Sept as originally required. We popped in yesterday (26th Sept) just to check only to find out that they had no record of this and could only accommodate after 8:30 which is too late. My wife now has to make other arrangements which as you can imagine is difficult at this late stage. Go enjoy the good but limited food choice and nice wines, but be careful with any bookings.

We went for a friends birthday, there were 6 of us. We had nice cocktails, and chips and dip was lovely. The food however and the service was dreadful … sinewy beef, half the menu wasn’t available, it really was awful. I think if you went for a drink and some chips /dip it would be great, apart from that none of us would return. Really disappointing.

This popped up on a local Facebook group as a recommendation. Growing up in California, I miss good Mexican food. Nice little place, fun decor, with great service. Very welcoming and happy staff couldn't do enough for us. The margaritas were good (especially the watermelon one). I'd consider this to be a nice lunch or a casual dinner, not one you'd stay for an extended time. We shared the chicken verde enchiladas and pork tacos. The salsa tasted very fresh and all was very good. The menu was limited, which I appreciated and they focussed on quality. My only recommendation was that hot plates might help keep the food warm for longer.

Having just spent three weeks in Mexico, I was curious to try this new restaurant. It was a wonderful surprise! On holiday, we visiting 25 different restaurants, and I can honestly say that only one of those was as good as Cielitos. Fabulous tacos, decent margeritas and so on. Great staff too. At the end, a modest bill. So long as the quality of food is maintained, this little restaurant deserves to do really well. We've since been back too. Loved it.
