Delicious food and they allowed us to sit even though they were closed, without knowing. When we realised we thanked them and walked out with the food. Will be returning.

Great Fish and Chips, good portions!

I don't normally give 5* to anyone but today's meal I had was the best I've ever had from T.P.T.B. The haddock was outstanding full of flavour the chips were perfect and the curry sauce is to die for Been coming here for nearly 2 years on a weekly basis The staff are amazing and food is out of this world 🌎 Keep up the great work guys This place (excuse the pun) is simply the best in the business

This place is absolutely delicious! Portion sizes are fair and they are definitely enough! The staff are always young and energetic and that's wonderful to see! I highly recommend this place it's bloody brilliant!

Tried here again for the first time in a couple of years as I couldn't get to my usual place before closing. Sadly it was just as I remembered, very small portions, fish dry and chewy, very disappointing. Had I not got a cab home, and would have had to get another back, I'd have taken the food back.

Worst fish and chips I’ve had for years. Poor southerners have no idea what proper fish and chips are like. Expensive rubbish. Avoid at all costs. Sorry, but your response to my review sucks. If my comments ‘sadden’ you then do something about it instead of your patronising excuses to all bad reviews- and there are plenty of those. Poor quality fish overcooked, dreadful chips and too few of them, terrible customer service from totally disinterested staff. How you stay in business is a real mystery.

Unfriendly service almost like they’re doing you a favour & don’t want you there!! Waiting 25 mins for the food. Large chips were no different to small, which was really small - I double checked with them I had a large and small!! Saveloy was rock hard, battered sausages also over cooked.

I don’t know what’s with the bad reviews?? I suppose people only write bad reviews. Been coming here since I moved to Chertsey and never had a complaint about the food. Always been fresh, and I will be going again later. Well done to all the staff, and being to get through Covid… that’s says a lot in itself. Be kind, don’t be mean…. ❤️

Our Friday take away in Cherstey! ***Update from Jan 2023 - downgraded to 3 stars*** Last 2 times we used The Plaice To Be, fish portions much smaller than before and batter overcooked . Prices on the up, no longer value for money No longer the place to be for us I'm afraid!

From out of town and always skeptical were I eat. Rang and spoke if they cater to my dietary requirements because I don’t like cross contamination chef could accommodate so had Fish and chips were delicious. Was made to order. Fresh tasty and decent price.

Visiting from Birmingham, and ordered Jumbo Battered Sausage, Chips and Curry Sauce. Every item was excellent, far better than anything available in my home city and can't wait to come back for the food alone. Best meal for a very long time, well done.

Not Gluten free everyday of the week, no food was purchased. Website needs updating. I’m sure the food is great. The Website mentions nothing regarding what days Gluten free is available despite the response below 👇

I have been here before as my son has nut allergies and just doesn’t trust food places due to cross contamination. Not only is this takeaway clean and shiny, but the welcome is friendly too. There are certificates all over the walls to show hygiene and allergy knowledge. There are Covid signs everywhere from standing-distance, to payment with a card and a screen to separate client and server. The kids meals are adult portion, the sausage is great and burgers too. Family of 4 can eat for 12/20£. Thanks for the excellent service!

Well if you want fish and chips right out of your freezer this is the place to go chips nearly fresh But fish cod right from aldi frozen isle just 100 mtr away £20 up your shirt straight away not good

My 1st visit for over 2 years. Food cooked freshly with nice crispy batter on the fish. Food not too oily and well packaged and was still hot when I got home. No problems in the shop, staff very friendly and helpful.

Absolutely vile chip we're stale and tasted like they had been there for days never going back here again worst place I've eaten sausage was full of oil please save your money go somewhere better

One of the worse fish and chips experience I have ever had, half of the chips were black when they peeled at least it could have remevod, fish size was like child menu fish and fried with skin and cooked too much

Very nice, food was cooked to order, which meant it was nice and hot and very tasty, was my first visit, but would not hesitate to use again

Amazingly friendly and helpful staff. I have never ordered a gluten free meal anywhere for my son. After answering all my questions and putting my mind at ease my son enjoyed every mouthful of his meal. I can't recommend The Plaice to Be enough We will be ordering again in the very near future

Very clean place with loads of options food. I can see that effort was put towards image, but you can improve the effort towards a good potato chip (which by the time I went home, 10 minutes away, was uneadible) Cheers.

I went there today. Had nice Chips before. Nice Blondy Girl Served me. Gave me Willy Warmups from Lunch time. Not going there again. Man cooking the stuff looked like he had one hand in his pocket tapping on his smart phone and didn't care anyway. what a shame it was all dried up when we went to eat it. tossed most of it in the bin

First Class Service with very friendly staff I will visit again

We have just moved into the area, and we were recommended fish and chips from The Plaice To Be. Initially, we were happy with the quality of the fish and chips. Recently, we have found that the quality of the chips has gone down, literally, one is eating bits of soil with potato . I contacted the owner who gave us a full refund, and mentioned something about the quality of the potatoes. We gave them another chance but there is no improvement to the quality of the chips which is totally unacceptable.

It was OK. Chips could've done with a bit more cooking. And also the Calamari it was like rubber. The girl who handed over the fish etc was very nice and smiley. The other girl could use her as a role model. The fish was ok.but I think the oil needs changing or they're not draining it enough.

Bit of a wait !! Meager portion chips fish ok nothing to shout about but ok.big sign asking people to wear masks and respect social distancing not that anyone can read apparently. Wouldn't put myself out to go there again there is better nearer to me.

We’re on holiday and wanted a chippy tea. A short walk from our hotel we came across this lovely looking chippy. It was difficult to order behind masks and screens and I’m not sure the girl on the till could understand my northern husband. Wanted a portion of chips with gravy which seemed to perplex the girl on the till who charged us for another cod and chips, we realised this when we checked the receipt on waiting for the meals outside. My husband went back into the shop and was refunded for the cod and chips. Anyway we left the chippy with what we thought were 4 meals when in fact we only had 3 the staff had taken the receipt when refunding the cod. So we sat on the park with chicken nuggets and chips, cod and chips and cheesy chips and my poor daughter had only a carton of gravy. I. Not sure if chips and gravy is a thing down south. The chips were a little gritty but disappointed the order was not correct.

Excellent service. Rang my order through and walked down with the dog and they brought it out to me. Fish was cooked beautifully, loads of lovely chips. Chips were free as was a pensioner deal. Lovely people.

After a had day moving house, we decided to treat ourselves to a Friday night Cod and chips. Excellent friendly service and all managed in Covid friendly way. The Cod was cooked fresh and to perfection and a side of curry sauce with the chips made the whole meal perfect. Just great fish and chips. Thankyou.

Good fish, fishcakes, and veggie burgers were good too. Chips were unfortunately a little cold but collection only so may have got cold on the drive home...

The most bizarre experience at a chippy I’ve seen. Front of house girl absolutely miserable and quite frankly rude. Left us outside for 20 minutes for just two portions of chips and when a customer went in to order they immediately served them and then when we asked where our order was they laughed at us. In future I’ll go to the best chippy around down green lane

So I have not tried the new chippy in Chertsey and this evening I did but now wishing I hadn’t. Firstly good to see signs about one person at a time in shop, you must wear a mask and social distance. Well in the space of 5 mins these were broken by two customers and neither challenged So part of the food order was quite enjoyable but the main staple the chips had a funny taste to them and honestly the worst I have tried So buyer beware the chips are not nice and not like the previous chippy where you could rely on getting a tasteful chip

Really disappointed!! Chips were cold and full of black bits, calamari was so chewy it was hard to swallow and the breadcrumbs on them, the onion rings and the prawns was soggy and burnt. The only nice bit was the 2 small fish bites. Never had a problem here before but wont be returning.

Not for me really, would rather go out of my way to get somewhere else, portion sizes have always been small and prices too high compared to most chippys, green lane “the chippy” will never be beaten on portion sizes, taste, and cost! Fact

Friendly staff, food freshly cooked an all you'd expect from a freshly re vamped hight street fish and chip shop. Am a semi regular, and have never been disappointed.

We placed a phone order for a group dinner for a quiz night. When I arrived they were just finishing my order and it was ready to take away exactly on time. Everything was correct, the food was hot, and tasty. Everyone enjoyed it and we will definitely be ordering again. Highly recommended!

This is the worst chip shop take away I have ever had. So bad that most of it went straight in the bin. Being vegetarian I was extremely pleased to see the vegetarian curry pie on their website menu but apparently they don't have that anymore! The majority of the chips were the scrapings and were so hard they almost broke my teeth! And there was so much grit! The chicken burger looked disgusting and also tasted disgusting. We ordered an egg but it looked liked a rubber hockey puck but I think it was an egg? The halloumi is literally just four little slices of halloumi - not even battered? The cheese and onion pasty - I have no idea how this was cooked? Not deep fried, not oven baked so I presume it was microwaved? It tasted of mould. The only good or at least edible item were the onion rings. You couldn't pay me to go back there.

I was really surprised not to find this one on Tripadvisor and it made me make the effort to review. My first in four or five years. This place is lovely and clean and everything is made fresh. They even had a huge range of gluten free. We went after a trip to Thrope Park and ordered a kids fish and chips (gf) an adult gf fish and chips and a non gf fish and chips. The portion size was great and the GF curry sauce was awesome. All fish and chip shops should be like this one. Lovely staff too. Thanks!

The staff are very polite and the food is of just above average quality but my issue was with the potion sizes . I ordered two kids meals that comprised of chicken nuggets a potion of chips and a drink, great value for these. The issue was the order for my wife and I that comprised of a portion of chip and some grilled halloumi each. The chip portion was smaller than the kids meal size and the halloumi was 4 tiny strips that was not worth the money paid. Not a good idea to do when there is another great chippy just around the corner with portion sizes that have value for money and of exceptional quality. I tried this place due to other reviews instead of going to the other one. I shall return to the one I know around the corner from now on. The image shows the portion on a small dinner plate.

Massive piece of cod chips were lovely

The plaice to be fish and chip shop did food for my 40th birthday party last weekend. I could not recommend this shop more!! The owners were so friendly and made it so easy to decide what I wanted so it was of best value. They delivered it on time and the food was amazing! All my friends commented on how lovely it was. Thank you so much and will definitely use you again for future events!

This was and still is my favourite fish shop, but tonight it was over fried. Great value for your money, genuine good service. Extremely clean & tidy place.

I have to say this by most is the worst chip shop I have ever had the misfortune to visit . It was expensive we sat at the table n chairs waited 10 mins for a doggy bag wen I opened the bag the chips was soft n undercooked all broken up like they had been kicked around the floor for 5 minutes so disappointed

I agree with the first review. I prefer to travel for better,cheaper fish and chips. Typical business which takes advantage of being the only one in Chertsey. I will still travel for mine.
