Churchills Fish And Chips in Redbridge

This place used to be very nice but since the lady in the pictures left and the new girl took over it has turned to absolute s@*#. The customer service is appalling, the waiting times are always longer than they advise, it’s very highly price for what is and the food is hit and miss. Sad times.

Unbelievable amount of chilli sauce put on a large chicken shish kebab making it uneatable. I am normally given a small pot of chilli of which I use half and have a salad separate but for some reason the ‘chef’ decided to cover the meat with sauce and place the salad on top. Waste of money as it was thrown away.

Fish was golden and crispy, but so greasy the wrapping and bag was dripping in oil. Chips were a very small portion (comparative to other chippys in the area), not crispy & about 10-20% were just not cooked at all. Mushy peas were okay. Kebabs nowhere near what the kebab shops around can do.

best fish and chips in Essex ... have one in Woodford and one in Theydon Bois . both as good as each other . portions are large and good value for money . friendly staff always very helpful .

Super quality cod and chips which were much better than other local chippies and did not skimp on quantity

Fish and chips are excellent, huge portions. I also ordered a side salad with my meal and it was lovely and fresh. Service and attention great. This is a fish and chip shop with class.

Without a doubt the best fish chips in the local area. Very pleasant staff and not bad on price. Definitely worth a try.

bought 2 doner kebabs 4/11/2019 @ quid each, the meat was either over cooked or had been left in a hot plate, it was quite unpleasant and dry. Who ever served it up knows what they are off loading to the customer and it makes me unlikely to buy again. t was not th first time thi has happened

Helpful friendly staff and excellent food. Just avoid the busy period - 6 - 7:30 pm on Fridays (or most days probably)..

Fantastic fish n chip shop chain in London. Hubby and I ordered two large cods and 1 large chips to share. There must have been 2 lbs of chips. Perfectly salted with a dash of vinegar! The fish was perfectly cooked and too big for one. Must have a big appetite to make this order. Next time we will share one cod and a small chips!

Went here to get a takeaway they served the food quickly however the food is average. Wouldn’t go out of my way to recommend this fish and chips as the food is average. No flavour to any of the food which makes it bland, this is why personally I would not recommend this to friends.

Efficient, friendly and welcoming staff but the cod and chips I purchased was poor. I won't be going back.

Often get take away when visiting family. so fresh. I would recommend this take away to anyone. plenty of parking in nearby car parks, friendly service too

I ordered a large gluten free chips, peas and curry sauce. All of the food was nice and the service was good. The curry sauce was the Chinese style rather than chip shop style. Gluten free chips took about 5 minutes to cook from fresh and the guy serving was very friendly and helpful when I asked for them. 90% if the packaging is biodegradable / recyclable as the tuba of sauce we’re cardboard (lids were plastic though).

My wife picked up 2 cod and chips from here. When we opened them up at home the cod was greasy with slimey skin and not crisp, like the fish had been sitting there for hours ..vile!The chips were doused in grease. Inedible!

These guys know how to cook fish. We always choose haddock and it’s always perfect. Lots of other things on their menu, but why stray from the best?

Regularly treat ourselves to fish and chips from Churchills and never disappointed. We ring in advance with our order and just pop in and collect which as this is a popular shop it is always quite busy. They will fry special cuts like middle skate if I ring a bit earlier to order. Batter light and crispy and fish beautifully cooked. Staff always polite and helpful. Well done, we will keep returning

The sausage and chips we had this afternoon were tepid and looked awful. they were covered in black eyes and had the look and texture of yesterdays left overs re warmed. The sausage in batter and the chips must have been in the warmer since they had ffirst opened is all I can think of. They on occasion have a good day and the chips are hot and fresh. When we discover a better chip shop will will be using that. I think todays offering was the last straw for Churchills

Where do I start, I try not to eat Kebabs etc but just had a craving for something spicy rather than having a fish dish. The service was very poor despite there being plenty of staff. I ordered a large Doner Kebab and was very disappointed. Virtually all of it went in the bin. The Doner meat was cold and it needed a couple of minutes in the microwave. It was very greasy, the paper it was wrapped in was drenched in grease. I also had a portion of chips which looked ok but tasted awful. Plenty of salt & vinegar needed to give any taste.

Always look forward to our takeaway from Churchills . Well packaged and their salad accompaniment a great addition. Always a generous portion

Excelente servicio, y siempre con una sonrisa. Un pescado muy ocupado pero eficaz y chips. Y la razón es que es el mejor pescado y patatas y kebab shop en el REINO UNIDO. Yo lo sé porque he probado muchos de estos comercios en el este, oeste, norte y sur del Reino Unido. Si quieres porciones grandes, bien cocinada y a un precio razonable se puede hacer mejor que visitar Churchills de Woodford Green. Incluso Sir Winston Churchill, de woodford MP por muchos años, hubiera aprobado. También para grupos grandes para llevar.

Este es, de lejos, el mejor pescado y patatas fritas/kebab shop para llevar en la zona. Llamar y pedir con antelación, ya que se llena bastante en una noche. Pero bien vale la pena esperar.

Fresh competitively priced and very generous portion sizes. Never tried before as previous reviews not great and family and I are fussy but this place is good As well as standard fish chips pies etc also does kebabsFamily and I had fish and chips and sausage in batter - all were good!

Always try and eat here , only takeway. I always try and ask for tail end of cod they never let me down , Great chips ,They offer a good range of pies and kebabs

I live close to the station and we always go out of our way to get the superior quality of fish and chips you get here. You can order ahead to avoid the queues that are often out of the door. Note to competitors, we go here for the quality of fish where the batter is crisp and never soggy or greasy (Mr Chippy) and the chips are fluffy with the right amount of crispy bits at the bottom.

Great fish and chip shop that also does lovely kebabs and grilled burgers. Top chips!! The staff are really friendly, a good idea to phone your order through at busy times

I like to think there isn't anyone in the area that doesnt know about Churchills, for its good honest Battered fish and chips. I have lived in the area for coming 20 years now and while I don't eat from here often, it is hands down the best fish'n'chip shop in my books - nothing compares.I'm doing this review of my own choice, but also for the 21 (!) people I shared a queue with this afternoon.

Great for and evening of "can't be bothered to cook!" Portion sizes are good. However please wear a hat to catch your sweat off your brow 'Mr Fish and Chip" man. Luckily it didn't drip into my food, had it done you would have known about it. Hygiene people might want to check that out!! This may have put me off now!!

tried witham churchills fish and chip shop at 5.15 on friday night 6 staff and waited 10 mins for a chicken burger and chips and there wasn't a lot of customers

On a number of occasions we have been disappointed by the quality of fish and chips at another local 'award winning' fish and chip shop, we thought we'd try Churchills. Really happy we made the switch. Great quality food and slightly cheaper.

I can't believe how bad the chicken kebab is. So dry and tastes like nothing. So disappointed with my takeaway. With so many Kebab places, I wasted my money on the worst kebab ever. The person who recommended this place has probably never tasted good food!

Occasionally go here for chips. One large portion usually does the 4 of us - so decent portions. Chips are always fresh, piping hot and delicious - golden just like chips used to be.Slightly annoying that at peak times you're literally queuing out the door, but hey, i guess they're a victim of their own success!.I think the prices are standard, but as the quality is good it still feels like good value.My chippy of choice whe I fancy em!

Been several times now since this was taken over by new management who are super friendly. Always had the cod and chips - the portions are very generous so much so we generally only share one large portion of chips with the cod, and my cats do well with scrounging left overs.You can phone ahead and your order will be freshly cooked for you too. Always had lovely freshly cooked fish, with lots of flavour and excellent crispy batter each time we've been in. Wouldn't bother with any other fish and chip shop in the area.

We have chicken shish, salad and chips takeaway from here at least once a week. We think best chicken shish in the area and their chips are the best. Friendly staff and quick order time.

Best fish and chips that I have had in a long time. Fish (haddock) was cooked to perfection, not too much batter just the right amount. Portions, especially the chips are very generous. All at a very reasonable price. As Churchills is take out only it is a good idea to call 10 minutes ahead, the fish is just coming out of the oil when you arrive.Getting hungry just writing about this!

I had a take away. But, all I can say it's that it is some of the best fish and chips I ever had. Not greasy and full of flavor. I recommend it

Been back twice since my last review, and both times the experience has been wasted by poor service first time i was left waiting for Scampi while a procession of people were served - seems they forgot to put it in the fryer. and teh otehr night all went well till they were packing my order up, without asking if i wanted salt and vinegar - i mean, it's a fundamemntal on a fish and chip dinner, how difficult can it be to ask every customer?

Hi just had to tell everyone about this place ,i thinks its new owners and i cant shout enough about how friendly ALL the staff are .I've also notice that its a lot cleaner than it use to be .

Not much more to say with the heading.We've been to this takeaway a few times before and it's been good but on a very recent visit it has been better than good! In my experience, this is probably one of the best if not THE best in the area. We also noted that they may be running with new staff, something's changed. Very friendly staff and really freshly cooked food. You never mind waiting for freshly battered and fried cod! Now what the area needs is a good sit-down fish & chip restaurant!

I believe this place might have recently been taken over. It's great to see they have a 5* hygiene rating and they even take cards now. The food was lovely and fresh but portion sizes have reduced quite a lot and it's a little more expensive now. We'll keep going back though, still the best fish & chips in town.

The new owners at Churchills have completely raised the standard. It was ok before, but now the fish and the golden crunchy chips are just so tasty. This really is the best chippy around, and I love fish and chips here. Have never eaten the eaten kebas here, as Shish on the Broadway do brilliant kebabs and I would not eat Doner meat even if there was only pedigree chum left in the world. Finally, the chips are always fresh, not like before. Under the old owners the chips were re fried from lunch time for tea time.

I've been here a few times now and it has always been very good. U unfortunately today I didn't have a very good I experience.The service was rushed and felt like they couldn't wait to get rid of me and the chips were dry and unusually extremely oily.

I have to write a 100 characters about churchills fish and chips...the fish is big white lumps of cod. the fried chicken is pretty good. the mushy peas are mushy. be prepared to wait 10 mins if you order scampi, also I am sure the last order of this was out of a freezer ... stick to the fish. the chips are thick cut and crispy the way I like them!

We've had food from here regularly over the years and have never been disappointed. The food is always freshly cooked, fantastic size portions and with a 5* hygiene rating to match. Highly recommended for a takeaway treat.

Tuesday night fish and chips - best night of the week at Churchills opp Harvester High Road, Woodford

Great portions, fast service good range on offer and we have always been happy with quality of the food, can't ask for more from your local chippy!

We have used this takeaway regularly and it is consistent in producing excellent fish and chips.Last night we had 8 for dinner and decided to have takeaway. We were able to order before and at the appointed went to collect it. It was freshly cooked and everybody thought it was the best fish and chip takeaway, and thoroughly enjoyed the evening. Altogether a great success due to Churchills.

Have been going to churchills for my fish and chips for about 20 years. No doubt it has changed ownership many times over this period but the quality has remained the same. A bit pricey and would like to see smaller portions of fish offered as it is impossible for me to eat the huge ones they serve. Fish is good quality however and chips are fantastic as well.

Batter isn't crispy, quite doughy but chips lovely. Nice location, bench not far from the chippy, sat there and enjoyed fish and chips, can't say it was cheap and batter not crispy

Churchills has always been good; I remember driving with my Dad from Epping to Loughton as a kid 30-odd years ago because it was better than the chippies in Epping. These days, Epping has improved (Peggotty's) and Churchills is now my local in Woodford Green. It's still great.Fish is nice and fresh, batter crisp, chips just right with soft centre but some firmness to the outside. Nothing's generally in the counter for long and the queue on many evenings tells you all you need really.For comparison - we just spent a week in Cromer and had take-away F&C from "No.1", the celebrity chef's place there. I'd give Mr Blackiston a 9/10 because his almost-tempura batter was just a cut above, but Churchills gets at least an 8 by comparison.
