We had made a long journey down to Devon in the car and fortunately called ahead to make a booking. The inn was busy. Our table was in the dining room, a lovely hall with views of the inn's garden. Food was excellent. I enjoyed a delicious partridge dish, with amazing tasting celeriac. Truly fantastic. For dessert we shared a sticky toffee pudding which was lovely. What a brilliant meal.

Came for a Sunday roast with the family. The atmosphere in here is great - a classic British pub setting with good drink options and very friendly staff. Sunday roast was tasty enough - not a 5 star, but tasty.

After an awful experience from a place a few miles away, we googled somewhere else for lunch and came across this place. Wow! So glad we did. We chose to sit in the beautiful garden and had a look at the menu. The menu was amazing, I chose fish tacos and the other half had a steak. It was all absolutely delicious, the steak was perfect and tacos so tasty. We couldn’t resist dessert as they sound delicious and they were. The staff were friendly and helpful. We will definitely be back here .

Visited whilst staying at a local campsite. The pub inside looked lovely but the sun was threatening to come out so we chose to sit in the garden which was very nice. Some lovely benches with canopies and dog hooks fitted which was perfect. The menu was varied, not the cheapest but the quality was definitely worth the price. Food was excellent and will visit again when in the area. Service was excellent also, highly recommended!

We dined here at the weekend and everything was great, my steak was cooked perfectly (m/rare) and was thick cut aswell, my wife’s fish dish of bream and gyoza was tasty and interesting. I had the Sticky toffee pudding which is always great and my wife had the vegan Posset, whilst it was very nice, it wasn’t quite the same as a full dairy posset! We are fortunate to live in the area where we have a selection of great pubs and Restaurants, and The Church House is one of the best, the service is always friendly and food and the food never lets us down

We visited on a Saturday evening. The starters were underwhelming and slightly overpriced. Our main courses were ok. The service however was poor. My husband’s bottle of beer was warm and the requested water didn’t arrive. We waited nearly an hour after our arrival for our main course which was served luke warm. Whilst this was recooked it rather spoiled our evening and after sitting with the desert menus for 10 mins we abandoned ship and settled the bill at the till.

£57 for a few snuggles and cocktails for two hours, #luscombeDrinks and Church House Inn, Rattery should be ashamed of yourself. Most families can’t spend that on a food shop at Lidl or Aldi this week. Disgraceful. Coffee was mediocre

Beautiful ancient pub, incredibly friendly and genuine staff who put me and my brother in front of a huge wood burning stove – it was a freezing night – and then served us the most delicious food I've had for a long time. We both had sirloin steaks with all the trimmings, the chips could have done with a little more colour but apart from that it was perfect. For dessert the bro had the ginger pudding with honey ice cream which he enjoyed very much and I had the brandy and vanilla crème brûlée, which was bliss on a plate. I would go back just to eat that alone!

Really loved the setting - a proper cosy, country pub! The Sunday roast was tasty and there was a nice selection of veg, including cauliflower cheese. The roast was on the expensive side, and everything was a few £ more than on the online menu. The roast was a decent size portion although we weren’t overly full and had room for dessert. The crumble was really nice and the perfect size for something sweet after a roast - although we felt it was quite overpriced given the portion size. Our dessert also took a long time to arrive, I think it had been forgotten initially but no massive issue as we weren’t in a rush.

Immediate friendly welcome. Traditional country pub with an additional airy light filled oak framed dining room extension. Choice of either, so chose the dining room. Drinks arrived quickly and a little longer a wait for mains and dessert. Popular and busy at lunchtime so probably the reason, however, so worth it. Food was delicious. Portion sizes adequate however if you like more mashed potatoes or chips/ roast potatoes possibly be wise to order additional sides. More than adequate for lunchtime, especially as we couldn’t resist dessert! The lunch menu advertised on their website isn’t the current one but from the month of May. In fact we preferred what was on today’s menu!! 2 courses - mains and desserts + 2 drinks cost £58. Would certainly return when next in the area and would recommend. Well done to the whole team!

We sat in the ‘old’ part of the pub which is traditional but extremely well kept. I was very pleased with my food. A lovely starter of mushroom rarebit and a delicious main of duck breast which was perfectly cooked. The only disappointment was one of the party, who had asked for steak and ale pie, was instead brought a chicken and mushroom pie. However, still a pub I would wholeheartedly recommend to anyone passing by.

Cannot recommend this pub highly enough. Not only is the food exceptional and the ale is great; They manage to create an atmosphere that is both very much a real, heart of the community pub for locals, whilst welcoming guests and passers by. We have young kids and they are always made so welcome. Last night in addition to the fabulous provision of good kiddie meals/cutlery/etc, the kids were even given a busy box to play with whilst we enjoyed our lovely time there. It had puzzles, games, colouring. They were so happy. If you are looking for a sunny drink in the garden, it’s a gorgeous spot. Or a place to go for a roast with your Gran, we’ve never been disappointed. Maybe it’s rainy on Dartmoor….we’ve played many a board game by the fire. The food is always of a very high standard and the menu is ever changing so it’s also perfect for a classy date night. You might wonder why I write such a gushy review. It’s because this pub is really special. It’s the heart of our community and people visiting it will keep it alive, fantastic and thriving for years to come. I tell all my friends about it…so I thought I’d tell the strangers on the internet too.

We called ahead to ensure a table was available at short notice (We were driving home from the west country on Saturday), and what a find. Skate Wings off the bone on Samphire was a particular highlight as was the Ploughman's with pickled Quail eggs. Truffle & Parmesan Chips and Halloumi fries also excellent. Given the quality of the cooking that we experienced, and the look of the other dishes coming out from the kitchen I have no doubt that I could happily spend a week there working my way through the entire menu. Not cheep but a sensible price point given the quality and evident skill. Our daughter thought the Cheesy penne pasta a bit bland (so probably how most children like it!) + If one of your children <12 opts for one of the open sandwiches, maybe ask for a plate, our Son seemed to have trouble keeping his on the fairly small wooden board it was served on, however this was great news for our dog....

The weather was awful but again Will went out of his way to ensure that we were well covered by erecting “sails” and cover to keep us all dry. Have been a few times- Lovely pub, friendly staff and the coconut vegan panna cotta was a sensation!! The grazing boards at lunch are also great value for money and very tasty!

Our family of 4 had booked for dinner! From the moment we walked in the door, we were welcomed with smiley faces from all of the staff, each of them asked if we were being looked after. We were taken to a table in the beautiful orangery extension. The atmosphere was nice and friendly. The menu was good, however I would have liked to have seen a chicken dish on there! My elder son had ordered the steak, he said it was possibly the best he’d ever had. My younger had the pork dish, with cider gravy. Also excellent! My husband had the beef pie... yep... excellent! I had the squid and chips, the chips are the best! Very reasonably priced food and drink, with outstanding service through-out the whole night! Our friends joined our table for drinks later, which was no problem at all. They also received great service with laughs and smiles! (Cucamelons)! Overall really impressed, which moved me to write this review, which is very rare for me! Thanks everyone... who made us feel so welcome and well fed!

What a joke. A group of 8 of us visited for a Sunday Roast. 1 persons meal was burnt - actually black on 1 side. Anothers so rare she couldnt eat it. Even after sending it back for being to rare and asking for it to be cooked more. They couldnt bring a gravy boat to the table, had tk take plates to the kitchen for more gravy. Told us a tiny side plate of veg was enough for 4 - 6 people. And even after we had finished our main course, asmed us to hurry up with desert orders as the kitchen staff wanted to go home.I would not recommend or ever go back here again.

Stayed here for one night lovely little pub rooms very nice and cosy unfortunately couldn’t watch tv as there wasn’t a remote and couldn’t use the shower as the button was missing of it which definitely would of been noticed on cleaning … the carpet in stairs were quite dirty and the people I didn’t find very welcoming sadly

Great little bakery! Amazing, friendly and knowledgeable staff and great coffee and pastries! Pasties are always awesome too, coming in from Cornwall!

Christmas lunch for 12 of us. Pre ordered from a balanced and varied seasonal menu that included fish and vegetarian options. Excellent value and we were very well looked after. Exceptional selection of well cooked Vegetables, recipe for the red cabbage please . Some of us were disappointed that we didn't have room for a desert ! This is a family owned proper pub with helpful competent staff. Parking right opposite but payment by card challenged some of us oldies.

Limited opening times, No food so asked out of curtesy if grandson could eat a snack. Was told no but to eat outside in the garden which had a closed sign on the gate, so had eat in the smoking area. Didn't feel particularly welcome. No alternative snack was offered. Wasn't very accommodating, we were staying local and would have returned for a meal but they said closed Monday and Tuesday and we would need to book if wanted to return. I would advise anyone to give this pub a a miss as there are much better pubs in the area
