Booked day before and confirmed we would have a choice of roast lamb or beef as 2.45 pm booking. Arrived and not told as we were seated there was no beef or lamb . Came to order and only chicken left so chicken we had. it was like pressed chicken slices, fat half of parsnip and 2 bits of broccoli cold and not cooked. Goes without saying will not go again even though only 10 minutes from home.

This place ticks all the boxes: friendly staff, nice food, good beer (Mena Dhu), lovely interior. Our room was comfy and clean. The reason for the 4 stars is because on both nights that we ate the wait was a very long time!

Recommend to eat at this pub on Saturday evening by our hosts at the B&B we were staying at in Malborough. Managed to get a table on a Saturday night which I was surprised to get as it was bank holiday weekend. We had our dog with us so was seated in the bar area. Good menu and specials board had plenty to choose from. Quality of food was good fresh produce used. Decent wine list and good selection of ales & lagers. Staff were friendly and very efficient. A very pleasant evening spent.

Beautiful building with accessible parking and access to the pub and a cosy table. The food was so good, we didn’t bother trying to find different places to eat during our holiday, we went all three nights and tried different things from a varied menu and local drinks on offer.

I had not visited for a couple of years but friends met us there for dinner. The pub has a great atmosphere and is a fine traditional pub that has not been ‘trendified’ the steaks we had were excellent as was the friendly service. As the tables were full booking is recommended.

Beautiful old pub but sadly quality of food very poor. Had the steak burger which was undercooked despite asking for it to be well done and chips were frankly disgusting, came out lukewarm and extremely greasy. Family members had the roast which was OK but not worth the money paid. Staff were pleasant but clearly untrained. Would not go back as overpriced. Such a shame as we used to come here prior to these owners and the carvery and deserts were the best in the South Hams.

We booked the Pub as a bit of a welcome celebration as my parents have just moved into the village and we’re keen to try the local…. This was a 1st visit for all 9 of us and expectations were high. On arrival I was blown away by the character of the bar area… low ceilings, log fires and a really cosy feel… what’s not to like…. Unfortunately for us due to the size of our party we were put in the back room/Conservatory, worlds apart from the class of the bar area…. The Menu read well with plenty of choices from starters, mains and Puds and something for the Children… The majority of the group were hankering for a roast and that box was ticked with an offering of Sirloin or Pork… Being this was our first visit and that prices are quite strong none of us pitched for Starters and went straight to mains. I played safe with fish n chips just in case….. turned out to be a very wise decision I am somewhat mystified by the Roast that got served…. One positive was it arrived quickly….but….. The Sirloin that was cooked very well and was generously portioned was bleeding out on the plate due to not have been rested properly….. The Veg… well… I’m still struggling to get my head around it…. The plates turned up with Brocolli and Parsnips and Courgette!!!!!!in tow,a few roasties and a poorly made Yorkshire pudding. I assumed.. (wrongly) that a cauliflower cheese may come as a side and maybe some carrots, red cab, swede or anything else really to justify the price tag….. What really confused me is the meat is the expensive part from a costings point of view and the veg is relatively cheap so surely logic would suggest to go heavy on the veg..???? The Potatoes were very average with little colour or crispness… My fish and chips was ok… not special.. just average This place could be Sooooooo much more…. Strikes me that there is a lack of passion and flair behind the seats just bums on seats…. A crying shame….

An old traditional pub which is a bit like going back in time these days. It's probably very cosy in the winter but it felt stuffy inside on a warm evening. The prices are way above what they should be. We booked here thinking the food must be something special because of that, but it's not. The curry was disappointing ....it was more a thin (well-flavoured) spicy soup with tough chewy chicken in it. My partner's meal was average; nothing to get excited about. I would have said the overall experience was average but with the inflated prices, I've given it a 'poor'.The staff were pleasant and service was good.

A classic looking pub which has a good atmosphere. Dogs allowed in the bar area which is handy and local alcohol on sale. We ate two courses, both started with the scallops with a salad and bread, one of us had the mussels and chips for a main, the other catch of the day cod fish and chips. The starter was fantastic, scallops with a simple salad and a nice chunk of bread. A lovely garlic butter dressing topped it off and scallops were cooked perfectly. Roe kept on, but showed that they were fresh scallops as sold on the menu. Fish and chips main was a little disappointing, very fresh cod, but seemingly frozen garden peas and frozen chips. The batter was nice and crispy, but it seems strange to serve with chips which aren’t freshly made. I would have liked to have seen a freshly cut set of chips, triple cooked or even a chunkier chip. As for the peas, it would have been nice to have the choice of mushy or plain. Unfortunately I was given plain peas, and when I say plain I mean not seasoned with anything. Boiled and put on my plate. The mussels were extremely tasty, in a beautiful creamy sauce and an absolute shed load, cooked to perfection. Unfortunately served with the same chips as the fish and chips. All in all, a contrasting meal, one which started off very brightly but could do with some improvements. That being said, the fish options were spot on and all fish was cooked wonderfully. If you want somewhere with fresh fish nearby, I would recommend.

We enjoyed the food, but the service let it down. We ordered some nibbles that didn't turn up but was on the bill. Our mains Drinks were good though, but no one asked whether we wanted more drinks, which cost them a couple glasses of wine. They also lost a pudding as we were left with empty plates for 20 minutes, by which time I couldn't be bothered. It's a shame, as it's a nice pub and restaurant, spoilt by a lack of attention to detail.

First of all, we booked for the bar area but were put in the 'restaurant' area away from the bar which has little atmosphere. Having selected our meal choices, on ordering we were only then told the main course fish soup was no longer available. I reordered the 'catch of the day' and was served a 'half' fillet of cod with chips and peas - the poorest fish and chips I have had for a long long time, especially at the high price. The rest of the party had the mussels which were fine, but if you want some bread to mop up the juice, that is an extra cost - crazy !

The staff was nice and friendly. The pub & dining areas were nicely-decorated. We were given a table in the far end and enjoyed the quiet setting but it was difficult to get the attention of the staff when needed, especially when we were trying to get the staff's attention for desserts several times that finally my husband had to go find a staff member to get the dessert menu, which came on a blackboard 10 minutes after we asked the staff. The large fish & chips and the burger and chips were good, but the chips were actually skinny fries that were overly salted and rather crunchy and dried, perhaps left too long on the kitchen counter. Drinks were reasonably priced. We should have skipped the desserts. The lemon posset was good but was small in portion. The three scoops of ice cream were a big disappointment - they mostly melted on arrival (perhaps sitting on a counter too long) and our waitress apologized. The scoops were small in portion and their three different flavours were blended such that we could barely taste the honeycomb scoop.

Recommended to us by friends. Food was ok but expected better quality for the price. I had booked online and overlooked that I needed to book dogs in too- the landlady did swap a table to accommodate us but not without having to talk to me like a 5 year old despite me genuinely apologising several times. Landlady then flashed us stroppy looks occasionally and ignored us when we left. Seemed to have different rules around mask wearing too based on if they know you or not. Food not good enough to put up with the unwelcoming atmosphere. Not for us.

Contradiction unmasked...I booked a table for my wife and I inside, but for the 1st time during the whole pandemic I forgot my mask. I walked to table with hand over my face and or table was by an open window. However the pub rules state no mask no entry, so even though I said I would cover my face with a tissue when visiting loo, this wasn't enough for them, so they offered us a table outside. Outside are cheap pub benches and to contradict themselves, they state that if outside you have to go to bar to order... this then changed my wife's view who was originally upset with me, to being pretty unimpressed with the double standards of this pub, especially when menu was same as the pretty average overpriced "sample menu"... . they lost our custom..we went to kingsbridge to Maga Bharat Indian.. superb..

We stayed here for 3 nights and it was a fantastic experience from start to finish. We arrived and were checked in by Joe and told if we wanted a drink to come down once we had settled into our room. He made us fabulous cocktails and we had the back garden all to ourselves which was a really beautiful place to sit and relax after a long journey. The room was beautiful, clean and had a lovely view across to the church. The pub itself is gorgeous and had beautiful traditional fires, we will return in the winter to enjoy a meal when they are lit as we can imagine it is lovely and cosy. The food was amazing, the evening meals and the breakfast were second to none with a fantastic selection on offer. Everything is fresh and the service was always with a smile - cant praise all the staff enough. Glen, Suzi and Joe were so welcoming and lovely, and always seemed to have time for you even during busy evening service. We went on to stay at another pub and to be honest we were gutted as the second place didn't even come close by any standard - and I mean none!! It is one of the best pubs we have stayed in and we will return again soon. Even if we don't stay we will go back for the fabulous food and cocktails, as it is a real gem of a place. Thank you for your wonderful hospitality, it is so refreshing to stay somewhere that hits the mark on everything across the board.

A lovely stay in an old world pub where the rooms maintain their historic architecture but the interior design is contemporary and stylish. I loved the navy walls and white metro tiling in the luxurious shower room; the bed was super comfy with quality bed linen. We stayed on a Monday night when the pub was closed, but we had our breakfast in the pub in the morning, the owner/landlady was really pleasant and helpful sharing local knowledge about our coastal walk We will definitely return on a night when the pub is open for a stay and pub supper.

My family and I were so impressed by the food and service at the Churchouse Inn, I have struggled to find good, fresh, food in Devon until I found this place. Beautiful menu with imaginative dishes . Joe the manager, along with all of the other servers went above and beyond throughout our meal. Thank you!! Will be coming again soon

We booked dinner at the pub based on the reviews we had seen: The pub is beautiful but regrettably the same couldn’t be said of the experience we had. The food was okay and served quite quickly, but we were left with empty glasses and our plates weren’t cleared when we finished our meal. It felt like we had been forgotten so we asked for the bill. After waiting 15 minutes for someone to take our payment, we went to the bar to pay, unusual during COVID restrictions. The lady there was quite honestly rude, taking our payment whilst she was sorting some one else out,no acknowledgement and no thank you when we had paid. A poor experience and we won’t be returning.

Our second time at the Church House Inn and once again it was perfect. Lovely room, superb food and great service from Glen, Suzi and their staff. My wife and I could not recommend it more highly. Great position to explore South Devon with Bantham Beach and Salcombe only a short drive away. The weather was great also! Cant wait to visit again.

We really enjoyed our meal at the Church House Inn! The food was excellent and the portions are generous. We had the scallops and asparagus dishes for starters (both a treat) and the lobster, butter milk fried fish and chips and the chuck burger. The food is of a high standard and we were delighted. We reserved a table in one of the outdoor beach huts which are beautifully decked out and make the experience really memorable. Lovely, friendly team who were efficient and very welcoming. Thank you for a great evening!

Stayed here for one night lovely little pub rooms very nice and cosy unfortunately couldn’t watch tv as there wasn’t a remote and couldn’t use the shower as the button was missing of it which definitely would of been noticed on cleaning … the carpet in stairs were quite dirty and the people I didn’t find very welcoming sadly

Christmas lunch for 12 of us. Pre ordered from a balanced and varied seasonal menu that included fish and vegetarian options. Excellent value and we were very well looked after. Exceptional selection of well cooked Vegetables, recipe for the red cabbage please . Some of us were disappointed that we didn't have room for a desert ! This is a family owned proper pub with helpful competent staff. Parking right opposite but payment by card challenged some of us oldies.

Limited opening times, No food so asked out of curtesy if grandson could eat a snack. Was told no but to eat outside in the garden which had a closed sign on the gate, so had eat in the smoking area. Didn't feel particularly welcome. No alternative snack was offered. Wasn't very accommodating, we were staying local and would have returned for a meal but they said closed Monday and Tuesday and we would need to book if wanted to return. I would advise anyone to give this pub a a miss as there are much better pubs in the area
