Chucho's in Newcastle upon Tyne

First time visiting - had heard good things and we were not disappointed! Gorgeous tacos, so flavoursome and delicious and good value. Will definitely visit again.

We went for a evening meal to newly refurbished chucho's and it was ok, The time before we went for lunch at old place and that was the very best authentic taco's cooked fresh infant of us. So disappointed when we did not get the same experience .

Really disappointed with our first visit here after seeing the many positive reviews online. You can just from the menu it’s authentic, however the chicken in our tacos was dry and, whilst the tacos still tasted nice and the tortillas were clearly homemade, the burritos had no guac, pico de gallo, feta, salsa or coriander on. The only real plus side was the fries which were crispy and well seasoned. This was a massive disappointment and unfortunately we are now very reluctant to return.

Ordered takeout and by far the best food I've had I'm a long time!! 10/10 can't wait to order again !!

Popped in for a quick lunch whilst working and was super impressed. Simple and effective, great range for the style, staff friendly and encourage questions, nice simple environment and they delivery/take out too. Def be taking the MRs here next time.

We were disappointed last summer when the small takeaway (with a few seats) seemed to have been replaced by a larger restaurant a few doors away and we didn't find the experience what it had been in the past. However, returning this week to see the takeaway open, and with a couple of outside tables our expectations were more than exceeded.Chucho's tacos have always been some of the best I've had. I've travelled in Mexico and I live part-time in Los Angeles (which has amazing taco food trucks everywhere) so to think that a restaurant in Byker could surpass them, is a bit of a surprise. The tacos we had a few days ago, were easily the best I've had in the world. The tortilla tastes home-made and has a little crunch and bite to it, the beans they use on the chorizo and the black pudding tacos are full of taste and depth (not just a salty mess) and each taco has different seasonings to compliment the meat.We had the carnitas, chorizo and the black pudding. Fabulous and I'm going back this week.

Everything tasted delicious. Tacos,quesadillas,tacos all amazing,fresh,tasty and great flavours. Will be back to work my way through the rest of the menu.

We ordered a variety of nachos here for take away (mix of three). First time ordering from here and it did not disappoint. All flavours were really unique and reasonably sized! I will definitely order from here again.

Had a really strong desire for a mexican whilst on a short break to Newcastle. Picked this place at random from the internet and ordered a taxi. When the tax driver found out where we were going, he told us that whilst he didn't know the restaurant, he knew the area and advised us against going for a walk after our meal, telling us instead to wait inside until our taxi arrived to take us back. This worried us a little before we even got there.Taxi dropped us on one side of the building which is a take-a-away. Round the corner is the entrance to the restaurant. It is small, cosy and rustic. The menu is limited, but has a fair selection with some unusual toppings/fillings for the tacos. My hubby selected the 'Any 3 tacos' option and I opted for 2 differing Quesadillas. They provide several sauces that you may add yourself to suit your preference of spicyness. They also have a limited cocktail/wine menu. The food was excellent, albeit a little slow in arriving. From what I could gather, the tables either side of us got the wrong food, and I wonder with hindsight it they got each others - ours was fine.After our meal, we got a taxi back to our hotel and told the reception manager about it, and what the outbound taxi driver had told us. She said that the area wasn't that bad and we would have been perfectly safe.Would I go again? Hell Yes! The food was really good.

First time dining here and will definitely return. Beef burrito was very tasty, the ingredients tasted very fresh. The food arrived quite quickly and lunchtime atmosphere was good. I loved the bright, colourful decorations too.

I went to chucho's with my partner we both had burritos and they were absolutely delicious 😋. We'll definitely be back!

Great Tacos, drinks and service. Travelled half an hour because the restaurant was that great it was worth it.

From the staff, the decor, the drinks and the food this place is amazing. Authentic Mexican food that tasted fantastic. We had the nachos to start then a burrito and the pulled beef tacos and all the food was well cooked, tasty and beautifully presented.Will definitely be back the next time we are here ( which is very soon), highly recommend Chucho's.

The tacos were delicious. Good choice of cocktails. Staff were friendly, professional and accommodating, they ensured we were given a covered tables and helped us down the stairs with the pushchair. First of many visits ahead. Thank you for a wonderful afternoon.

Como local de Newcastle, este siempre ha sido un lugar que he querido probar. Al escuchar que recientemente se mudaron a la vuelta de la esquina a un local más grande, optamos hace 2 semanas para probarlo. Y no nos decepcionó. Habiendo tenido tiempo en el extranjero viviendo cerca de México, he tenido una amplia variedad de comida mexicana. Esto fue magnífico.Optar por comenzar con nachos y quesadillas llegaron rápidamente y estaban deliciosos, particularmente la salsa fresca y picante. Para el plato principal, todos optamos por 3 tacos (creo que esta es la mejor manera de probar cosas diferentes). Opté por cerdo desmenuzado, res desmenuzado y chorizo. De nuevo, estos llegaron rápidamente y fueron excelentes. Sabores frescos seguro. Los precios también son extremadamente razonables.Lo recomiendo encarecidamente. Recomiendo los tacos. He estado esperando a que termine el cierre y que todo se abra para volver a Chuchos para los Tacos. Da la casualidad de que ahora tienen un nuevo restaurante y un menú más extenso. Fuimos hoy a almorzar y no nos decepcionó. ¡Toda la comida fue increíble! Tan fresco y recién preparado, excelentes porciones también y las salsas de cortesía eran para morirse. !Conseguí la quesadilla, también obtuve el taco de carnitas, el pescado y el chorizo, que fueron increíbles, difíciles de elegir. Todo el grupo limpió nuestros platos. Lo único que nos decepcionó es que tenía el coche, así que no pude repasar todo el menú de cócteles. Tenía uno y era Devine.No puedo esperar a volver, es tan auténtico por dentro que me sentí como si estuviera en México. ! ASOMBROSA! ! ??

Habíamos estado una vez antes en el lugar anterior, que era muy pequeño y se sentía como un establecimiento de comida rápida, así que decidimos probar el nuevo lugar más grande. Qué diferencia: fue una noche de fiesta, una decoración luminosa encantadora, comida deliciosa y un menú mucho más extenso y una variedad más amplia de bebidas, y un personal amable. Hemos estado disfrutando los tacos de Chuchos por un tiempo y hoy fuimos a su nueva ubicación. ¡Estoy tan feliz de verlos expandirse y tener más en el menú! Teníamos los tres tacos habituales y estaban tan buenos como siempre. Mi favorito es el taco Pescado, ¡definitivamente vale la pena una visita si estás buscando auténticos tacos mexicanos!

¡Finalmente Newcastle tiene un restaurante mexicano de primera categoría! Mi esposa y yo fuimos a almorzar y la comida era fresca, creativa y absolutamente deliciosa. Compartimos algunos nachos para empezar, que eran geniales, y mezclamos tacos para platos principales. Las carnitas y los cactus fueron especialmente buenos. No podía irme sin unos churros para terminar y dieron en el clavo. Mi esposa también me aseguró que las margaritas eran excelentes. El personal era amable y el lugar era luminoso, colorido y limpio. Muy recomendable.

I feel so lucky to have found this incredible restaurant! The food is absolutely amazing and I don’t think I’ll ever go anywhere else in Newcastle. Well worth a special trip and a perfect place for any occasion. You won’t be disappointed!

Me and me friends went for meal. First they said they didn't have Nachos(MEXICAN). Chorizo they are doing now is not what used to be.Toilets were dirty and service it wasn't great at all.Not coming back!!

Ate here Sunday lunch time we had 6 tacos a beer diet coke and churros for £23 excellent food, good music what more do you want, be careful with the scotch bonnet salsa its a bit hot.

This is a little gem of a place, the staff and amazing friendly and really good at what they do. Tried three new tacos and again they were so incredible. All different flavours and textures, beautifully presented and very filling for there small appearance!!

What a little gem! Don’t be fooled by its appearance- it kind of looks like a little takeaway with a few tables but my my these tacos are hella tasty! You can choose any combo of 3 for £8 and they are freshly made for you. Would definitely recommend a visit here!

Having passed this place on the bus many times, I finally went for lunch with my husband today. We received a warm welcome and found the offer of three mix and match tacos for £6 an absolute bargain. There was plenty of choice, including chorizo, black pudding, chicken and a few different vegetarian options. My husband went all meat and had chorizo, black pudding and beef, all of which he said were excellent. I went for two vegetarian and one chicken, choosing a potato one, a plantain one and a chicken one. They were all delicious. We then had our all time favourite dessert of churros; £3 for six of them! They were lovely and crispy and well doused with sugar and cinnamon.Overall it was just the right amount for lunch and an absolute bargain at £17 for everything. We will definitely be going back.

I had a lovely family party here on a Saturday afternoon in January 2020, celebrating a special event. There were 23 of us and we were all very hungry Chuchos reserved their Jesmond cafe for us and we had the MOST fabulous afternoon. We enjoyed every taco on their menu plus nachos, chips, churros... Everything was freshly cooked to perfection and absolutely delicious. Service was wonderful - such friendly and hospitable staff for whom nothing was a bother. It all just felt so comfortable and homely. We all loved it. And... it didnt break the bank. Can't recommend this place enough. If you have a discerning palate and enjoy being well looked after you won't be disappointed! ❤

We have passed this place so many time but have never got round to going it but so glad we did. The food was beautiful, so many different tacos on offer it was hard to choose. Me and my husband had 3 each and the flavours and combinations were so authentic and tasty. The prices were really good especially since they were made fresh and I would go here over some of the chain restaurants in town that would charge double the price. The lovely man who served us was friendly and a great chef! If you haven’t been don’t wait go now!

I visited here with my husband on his suggestion and was not disappointed. The food was amazing and I felt good value 3 tacos for £8 (there are other options) 3 was more than enough and there’s a good selection to choose from. My favourite was the plantain. The staff were very friendly and helpful and there was a really good atmosphere in the restaurant. You can sit in or take out but we opted to stay and had a bottle of Mexican beer each with our meal. The decor is colourful and fun. We had a great and surprising visit as I wasn’t sure about the location but would definitely come back again no questions.

Chuchos does the tastiest tacos (I can’t find authentic Mexican food anywhere else in Newcastle) - keep doing what you’re doing!!

I have been in Chuchos restaurant in different occasions, the place is small but the food is great. You are able to see how they make corn tortillas and the taste is absolutely amazing. Will recommend the chorizo tacos... Love it♥️

The food is still really tasty but the Tacos themselves are smaller and thinner than they used to be, they also used to be a deeper yellow colour. This coupled with the fact they've went up to £8 is a bit of a disappointment. Personally they barely touched the sides on the last visit and I was still hungry.

Go here on a very regular basis. Food is always so fresh and delicious. Great vegan and vegetarian options too so a regular place for our vege friends to visit too. I eat here so often and it's always amazing so about time i left a review.

I didn’t know what real tacos were til I ate here. I’m veggie and the selection is great for me never mind meat and fish eaters. Absolutely delicious and thoroughly reasonable. Please open one in Whitley Bay you’d go down a storm!!

Never normally leave reviews but had to after ordering some amazing tacos. We ordered all sorts and they were all delicious. Despite making a large order they were made really quick and the service was top notch.

Tried this place last night after it had been recommended by a friend from Mexico! Had the veggie tachos and nachos with a friend, both loved them. So tasty, lots of flavour and generous with the fillings. Would absolutely recommend.

Ohhh, it was absolutely delicious! We’ve only ever eaten from Chucho’s at the Gateshead container village so a trip to the restaurant was on the cards. My husband and I shared various tacos and nachos and they were all absolutely first class.

Visited this hideaway at the top end of Siels Road , for the first time, yesterday. Fabulous nachos, I had black pudding with black bean mix,plus guachomole and trimmings. Excellent flavours in tacos that are made in front of you. You can park round the corner even at the weekend. Great find.

Just finished my first visit to this place on Shields Road and had no idea how tasty the food was. I've been to all the usual Burrito bars but this is another level. The choice and quality was excellent. I will definitely be back here and strongly recommend you try

Finding an authentic quality Mexican fast food restaurant in the UK is difficult enough, more so as you leave London and trip over the usual bland chains and their commercial, but fits their kitchen capabilities Mexican.

The best Mexican food I have ever tasted and I have been to a LOT of places. Really well priced and honestly the flavours and everything are just unreal everyone should go here I am blown away.

i had 3 vegetarian tacos and a lovely Mexican beer. all of them were cooked to perfection and served beautifully, especially the sweet potato. the flavours are incredible and everything is fresh - a rare find. Special shout out to Juan, who made my day.

A tiny restaurant on one of the less appealing streets in Newcastle, but I totally love this place and try to come here at least once a week. For a start, it has an orange skotch bonnet hot sauce that makes my eyes almost pop out of my head. Additionally their tacos are just lovely. So fresh and tasty. And recently they added churros to the menu!

Chuco's saved me from withdrawal on many occasions after returning from working in Mexico . The Tacos are amazing, reasonably priced and the staff are very friendly. Highly recommended!!

Tried for 1st time, server was happy to answer my questions around their offerings. Interesting limited menu, flavours gentle in spicing so good with zingy zang hebs, veg and fruit to freshen up the tacos and tortillas. Enjoyed and reasonable value £7 for 3 small soft tacos & £6 for tortillas. Don't expect a feast but hey its just enough if your not clammin.

My son & I came for our second visit so we knew what to expect. The tacos, at three for £7, are great value. The fresh as a daisy ingredients speak volumes about the integrity of the owners - as does the portion size. So, you may ask, why not 5 stars instead of 4?

I went for Black pudding/Spanish chorizo/crispy chicken combo Delish Found the pulled pork a bit dry but my mate disagreed.

I've been following Chucho's since it was a food truck - so really happy when they opened on Sheilds Road and have been a regular since last year. My son loves them and it's his favourite place to go.

This has become my new go to place. Admittedly the surroundings aren't very pretty to look at but the food more than makes up for that. I think the only one I have not tried is the one containing black pudding because I hate the stuff but every other taco is a little 'taste sensation ' to punch a phrase from Peter Kay.

Incredible experience. I was with some friends and I'm sure we'll come back. Original taste, fresh food, very nice staff and great value for money. We will be back very soon!

After living in Mexico for several years, I've been looking for a place that feels and tastes the same as mexico and was told by I friend that chuchos tacos was the taste I was looking for. I can proudly say that chuchos tacos is as good if not better than the taco experiences I enjoyed in Mexico. If anyone wants a true taste of Mexico this is the place to go.

They’re having a laugh, I’m afraid. Awful. Tiny tortilla, overfilled, next-to-tasteless. Overpriced by at least 30%. Not recommended.

Chuchos opened near where we live & my daughter loves Tacos.

Tacos like you won't find then anywhere else. I'm not vegetarian but their vegetarian options are lush, especially the plantain one. The seats in byker are pretty uncomfortable if you're eating in, but an uncomfortable butt is fine in exchange for delicious tacos.

Took a brisk walk from the Quayside to Chucho's and boy was it worth it. We had 6 between the 2 us which was a bit messy, but hey - we could have asked for another plate I guess. The chorizo and chicken tacos were my favourites but to be fair I enjoyed the lot. When they say the hot dip is hot, believe me it is! The flavours were delicious and I think the price is spot on. Would definitely visit here again if we lived in the area and I wouldn't hesitate recommending it to anyone.

We have been looking to try this as a sat night take away so went there prior to see how it works on a lunchtime we took the guys advice and got the 3 4 £7 we got a selection pork chicken and chorizo all of which were lovely will be back soon for double the amount and hopefully try more flavours

I visited Chucho’s today as I was in the area for work. I got a takeaway and I loved the tastes. I’m not too sure though that I agree with the same price for eat in or takeaway and £7 did seem a wee bit pricey for a takeaway lunch for one. The food was very tasty and unique. I would have liked to order one item as a main and not needing to order three smaller selections. I also would have liked a takeaway knife and fork. Not just a fork, and also the salsas on the eat in tables to be available at the take away checkout, and lebelled as mild/hot etc. Plus sour cream. The sign saying what was hot was helpful however i has no idea by looking inside the pot. Basically I think the food will prove itself. It was very nice. The comments are made just to hopefully help this new set up grow as I hope it does!

We eventually made it here after intending to swing by from Heaton a number of times and not making it.So glad we did. I don't ave a lot of experience of Mexican food, but that said - these were clearly brilliant. there was a wide selection to choose from, including vegetarian options. they were all delicious, with contrasting flavours, fresh ingredients and both soft and crispy tacos.

The food at Chuchos is exceptional. I have actually moved away from Newcastle and me and my boyfriend talk about the food here and how much we wish we could get the tacos at Chuchos regularly! I was looking at the one bad review they have and it’s laughable. The food here is amazing and I would tell anyone living in Newcastle or travelling there that Chuchos a must visit.

I’ve been visiting Chucho’s since they opening in Byker a few years ago and they’ve always offered an amazing selection of tacos. I’d especially recommend the steak taco and also the deep fried chicken taco. Whilst I think their prices have gone up a little in the past few years they’re still fairly priced and there tends to be a deal for buying 3 tacos together.

It was the first time we had visited this place, it having caught my eye as I travelled past it regularly by bus and thought "oh that looks interesting". The meat in the wraps was tasty though would have been better had it been cut in strips rather than cubes. The guacamole was tasty and the wraps were made on the premises before our eyes. Drinks were a bit of a rip-off but I suppose it's a good way to make easy money. The food was interesting, tasty and nice. The staff were pleasant. The black pudding was very tasty.

Firstly I’d just like to say if you decide to read the only terrible review, don’t bother because it’s absolute nonsense. I’ve visited this restaurant twice in three weeks now and both times it has been exceptional. fresh, good quality ingredients and you can also watch your food being made as you wait which I really enjoyed. The service is brilliant and the food is exceptional, would recommend 1000%

We were visiting the Newcastle Climbing Centre just around the corner but couldn't climb as they had an event taking place. We strolled around the corner and found Chuchos. Wow man! We were in California last year and tasted some great Mexican food, but Chuchos is right up there. My friend ordered a bottle of beer and the same food order as I did. I prefer the soft tacos to the crispy one's, but I ordered a selection. The Chorizo taco is so great and I ordered two chicken tacos which were in a crispy wrap. The tacos are hand-made on the premises and you can watch the cool staff making these. The guys behind the counter were really informative and it is evident they really care about the preparation and presentation. This is quite a small premises with massive jalapeno heart and also, so we were informed, caters to weddings and parties and such. Very cool eatery! Great for eat in or take away. We have shared the menu items with many friends! Buena Suerte Chucho! Long may your Mexican delights continue!

Best Mexican food I've had for a long time, certainly in the North East of England. Great flavours, right amount of heat but not overpowering, lots of lime and fresh herbs, they're just amazing.

I was looking forward to my visit after hearing all great reviews. I'm hoping they've had a bad day - base of tacos was soggy, bland and tasteless. It was a huge dissappointment but hopefully they've just had a bad day.

This place is a hidden gem. The tacos are fresh and tasty and the staff friendly. Only slight down side is it is very small and can feel cramped when you’re eating completely surrounded by people and it can be hard to get a seat.

Absolutely love the tacos here. They are so fresh tasting and unique, and there are great options for meat lovers as well as vegetarians. Even the meatatrians will love the veggie options! Just great food well prepared.

Churches is a small cafe that also does take out, I was introduced by a Mexican friend who advises the food is authentic. Each day there are eight options to chose from with vegetarian options for those who don't eat meat.

The best Mexican food in Newcastle hands down. Its fresh authentic and mouth watering and has cute decor too for a small takeaway place. The chef is actually from Dominican Republic but is a super friendly guy! Not to be missed!

We tried this place after having seen the large number of great reviews. However, we were disappointed. Staff were very friendly and welcomg but food was not as tasty as we had hoped. The crispy chicken and vegetarian tacos we ordered were bland. I would rate this place as average.
