Christys Fish Shop in Elmbridge

Does not taste fresh at all. Oil tastes old. Have tried multiple times. Would not buy from here- much better fish and chips available locally.

Never eaten in, but been taking-away for many years, perhaps about every 6-8 weeks. Not cheap, but what fish is? Usually share a small cod and chips, and a haddock which always comes large, which is rather more than 2 of us should eat. Super-light batter on the fish, usually very nicely cooked (but sometimes a little soggy underneath if wrapped too quickly) and chips great as they know I like them well done. ALWAYS freshly cooked to order, and fat change frequently. Much cheaper to visit than to order on line.

Racking fish and chips. Was visiting friends in the area who recommended this place and was not disappointed! Fish lovely and moist and great mushy peas!

The burger was literally the worst burger I have ever had. I bought a large code and chips. This was better, but very greasy

One in three times it can be ok, can be very greasy, and a lot of the time they should not release poor quality chips, all very bitty.

We have been eating the excellent fish and chips here since Christie opened his eponymous restaurant. Christie has moved on, but the standard has remained very good. My excellent cod or haddock is always cooked to order, never pre-cooked.To those who complain about small portion sizes, my experience differs. The portions are big.If you want it crispy, tell them and they will cook it longer. It isn’t cheap, but fish isn’t nowadays and nor are rents in Elmbridge. It is still cheaper than pizza express down the road .I like their food a lot and will continue to be a regular.

Good chips but really soggy fish. Cod was quite slimey too. Charge £3 for tartare sauce which is a joke. Won’t be trying again.

Should have read reviews first. Nice chips. Scampi okay but batter had a long black hair in 🤮 guys, please, wear hair nets.

What can I say?Called by a colleague who was passing locally - and wanted a chat and sit on Gigg’s Hill Green, nearby.I had forewarned him that a Hinchley Wood old villager friend, had had a ‘poor experience’ several months back - from the same establishment. I had perused the food then, but not tasted it.This time I did. I had one ‘piece’ of the Scampi - which colleague had ordered. Really bad indeed.The meat pie looked dire.....the chips were woeful.

Cold old chips. Cod portion smaller than ordered. Nothing was freshly cooked. And cost over £30 for 2 large chips, 1 large cod and a few bits of scampi. Total rip off.

Ordered through Uber eats and waited over an hour still not arrived, stated it had been delivered the second it had left the shop, reported via Uber eats, called shop and extremely unhelpful man said it was nothing to do with him??? He could see I had ordered but said there was nothing he can do, very unhelpful, will not be using again either Uber eats or Christys

I recently ordered a takeaway for a change from hone cooking during the Coronavirus pandemic. I telephoned the order ahead and it was ready upon my arrival. There was a small hitch with the order which they corrected. However, despite being full of anticipation for good old fashioned fish and chips, the experience was dreadful. The chips smelt awful as if the cooking oil used was past its sell by date. The chips were undercooked and soggy. They tasted awful. The cod was better and the batter was acceptable but tainted by the cooking oil. The steak and kidney pie had been reheated in a microwave oven and was soggy and chewy. Awful. The saveloy was barely warm and tasted like no other I have ever tasted. The curry sauce in fairness was good and tasty. Most of the meal was thrown away. I won’t be back here. Sorry. This is not the Christy’s I remember of old. What happened??

A blast from the past. Not available where we live in Spain. Great portion size. Lovely curry sauce. Not at all expensive. Very nice indeed.

We visited here for the first time in some years, this time Friday evening in the restaurant, which is a clean bijou area at the side of the "chippy". Very bright, great original Beryl Cook type pictures by a local artiste, bought by Christy when he owned it. several years ago Now owned by Turkish brothers, with their wives helping, so a family business. Service very friendly. There is a good selection of fish, but for a change we both had Huss, which was delicious, plenty of chips, and the mushy peas portion was huge! Home made tartatre sauce, and other sauces all provided. Free teas after! £18.80 plus tip is fantastic value.

This evening we decided to choose an alternative to our local fish and chip shop.We ordered saveloys for the children and scampi and chips.The insides of the saveloys were grey and watery, my children, unlike me, usually enjoy saveloys but could not eat these ones due to the watery tasteless offerings.The ‘scampi’ was possibly the worst food I have ever tried to eat from a take away. Watery and tasteless inside with the most foul tasting batter. I ate 2 mouthfuls hoping the first was just bad luck. £23.10 and it mostly went in the bin. I would not return and certainly would not recommend to anyone else.Had I have had more time I would have taken it back and asked for a refund.

A traditional fish and chip run by a friendly family, they consistently provide excellent cod and chips, at a very fair price, highly recommended. Take away or restaurant.

We ordered sausage and chips The sausages was dripping in grease and not edible The hygiene star rating was 4* but that expired in 2014 and NOT renewedFood was cooked in wrong oils giving off a weird taste in chips Basically this meal was disgusting and will not be returning (It doesn’t even deserve 1*)

Got fish and chips takeaway.really not nice at all.The chips tasted greasy and the oil tasted old.The fish was really large but grey and tasted a bit off.im so sad to Wright this review I've been going here for years.I don't know why it's gone so bad.cant keep coming back for substandard fish and chips.

Usually pop in after footy, but treating myself some Fridays too and having a night off cooking. We enjoy cod, chips and wonderful mushy peas. Best mushy peas outside the goosefair in Nottingham!

A fine piece of cod, a good heap of chips (he couldn't have got any more on his little polystyrene tray if he'd tried) and a slice of lemon - the odd thing about Christy's, and I've been using it for years, is that it's now cheaper than it was five years ago.

Can't fault this plaice. Always have Fantastic. the battered scampi. Never seen this for sale elsewhere locally.

Please, please change your oil and use fresh fish. Cannot understand why this place gets good reviews. But as I'm from Brum perhaps expectations for fish and chips are different down here. Would be nice to able to just walk round the corner to get good f&c;, instead of having to drive to Surbiton. But perhaps that is a good thing, for waistline purposes.

Estaba buscando algo sabroso mientras teníamos una hora para matar, encontramos esta joya. Controversia lleguen unos 12. 20 un martes, mientras fue tranquila, nos dijeron que podíamos todavía comer. Hay manteles de lino y servilletas de lino, gran servicio y nada era demasiado problema. El bateador en el pescado estaba muy ligero, el pescado fresco y las patatas fritas muy crujientes por fuera y suaves en el medio, ¿qué no? Bien, así que no tenían salchichas y patatas fritas en el restaurante, pero usted puede tener tartas, hamburguesas, pollo o pescado, también hacer las comidas de los niños. Vale la pena una visita

Visited Christy's with my husband whilst on family business in the area. It is a small family run business and with the Fish & Chip shop at the front the restaurant is easily missed but thanks to TripAdvisor we knew about it. The staff are charming and friendly and I can honestly say the fish and chips are the best I've ever tasted. I would recommend anyone to give this place a go, excellent value for money. Thank you.

the best fish and chips you can buy.we normally eat in.white table cloths pots of tea lovely pickles and bread and mackeral pate all given free with your fish and chips o and salad.and the staff are amazing.really kind people.allways apleasure to go.really the best.

Hidden behind a fish and chip shop is an Aladdins Cave. The tables have cloths, the napkins are cloth, there are candles and fresh flowers on the tables.This family run restaurant serves the best fish and chips south of Yorkshire at unbelievably low prices. The meals are served with a smile by the delightful waitresses.If you love really fresh fish, expertly cooked and the novelty of the quirky ambience you must visit this restaurant.

We spent a lovely lunch with tasty nibbles, very fresh fish, beautifully cooked - and with linen tablecloths and napkins. They also do take-a-way fish and chips. A lovely lunch.When in this area, we will look forward to visiting again.

Decent fish and chips. Slightly soggy but quite tasty. Cooked to order while you wait. And not bad value for money. But they didn't do savaloy. And why not have a couple of small seats or a little bench to rest while you're waiting? But I appreciate that space is quite limited. Not many people seem to eat in though.

We only ever go to here for a sit-down fish and chips and there's a reason why.......The MUSHY PEAS........I don't even like Mushy peas...so I'm as surprised as you all reading thisAnd the Cod and Haddock are great, with excellent options for the kids in case they like burgers. Very family friendly and worth going to if you are into great Fish and Chips....don't forget the mushy peas !

This old plaice has seen batter days. It was the best around fish emporium around..... but tonight freshly cooked fishnchips were well below par.Thin fish, which appeared to be thawed cheap cuts and soggy chips. Very poor...... the family thought it was really unpleasant.So sorry since for 20 years it has been a fine Friday night pleasure.

Quick and friendly service with reasonably priced menu. Great curry sauce too! Just enough parking outside to drop by.

Good place I recommend. I have always used this place for a takeaway never eaten in their restaurant but the chips are almost the best in Surrey. The shop is always busy and you do have to wait for anyone before you for their fish to cook before they serve you just chips you ordered but I guess without order there would be chaos. It is worth the wait.

A standard no nonsense fish and chip takeaway counter to the front, with what appears to be an infrequently used restaurant area to the side. Fish whilst cooked to order does not appear to be generous in size and also frozen at some point in the past missing the flakeyness you can get elsewhere. Chip portions were also on the skimpy side and about half were small offcuts rather than nice chunky well cooked golden chips.Prices were quite about right for fish and chips (£6.50) but at near on £3 for a large portion of chips, a fair bit steep, even given the area.Service can be quite slow and systematic so if you are unlucky enough to order a bag of chips after a massive order, you are more than likely gonna have to wait a while.Very popular with the locals but I would suggest more relating the supply/demand than absolute quality.

This is our local chip shop and I'm so glad it is! Easily the best in the local area and always really busy! I've tried most of the menu and all the food is delicious and very fresh! There is the option of sitting in as well but we have yet to do this. Be back soon!

We have eaten in and out at Christys for many years. It is consistently the best Fish and Chip Shop in the area.My favourite is haddock, the rest of the family prefer Cod. There is plenty more on offer, but mainly fish (thank goodness) .This is worth going out of your way for. High praise from a Northerner where F&C is generally hard to beat.

This is a wonderful traditional tasting fish & chip shop which has a busy take-away service plus a lovely sit-down area. The food is fried the 'old way' ie in animal fat, so is not really for veggies. Although I've tried the take-away, the restaurant really comes into it's own. The shop is owned by two likeable Turkish boys and their emphasis is on freshness. The waitress who is normally there used to own the shop alongside her brother (Christy). She is the epitome of what a great waitress is-she knows both her clientele and warmly greets you whenever you arrive-and she also knows which fish is the best and will make recommendations.They normally give you a free starter-either a few unpeeled cooked prawns with bread or rolls/butter or mackerel pate-both delicious. The portions are gigantic and well cooked. With the fish comes a variety of condiments-all free. Gherkins, mayo, ketchup, plus a small salad on the plate itself alongside the fish. I've not managed to eat everything a few times-and I LOVE my fish and chips on a Friday. This is a little gem of a place but because of the method of frying would only go once a month. Highly recommended.
