Chow Asian Kitchen in East Devon

Rubbish company policy and seriously stinking staff attitude. Staff put the food in the bin rather than allow me to have the two toppings I requested an was willing to pay for. Lucky for me M and S opposite did some cracking noodles.

The issue here is not the food which was average but okay but the food poisoning it gave me. As I ate nothing else that evening and didn’t visit the toilets it was definitely this place that infected me. Several other contributors here mention food poisoning after visiting the Chow Asian Kitchen and I shall be reporting this place to the Food Standards Agency. Utterly terrible.

Dear me don't eat here! My son and I in a desperation for food with flavour picked up baos and gyoza here, which we then had to watch someone reheat in the microwave. We found them half warm and half cold. Returning to the counter we requested they be reheated properly, and then the server blitzed them in the microwave so they where too hot and now hard. Rotten experience, and an upset tummy the next day. Avoid!!!

The food was not that cooked. The portion quantity was very low. Halal is there. Ask for halal options. Some of the fried items are not halal check with them. The noodles was undercooked and curries were not at all good.

Portion sizes are getting smaller and price has gone up as with everything these days. Quality of the food was very good as per usual but they only had rice available, no noodles onsite that day. Will likley go back as it's located very close to work for lunch but wouldn't go out of the way to visit..

Should of used my brain, all other foood outlets here were busy except chow, ignored by server, while completely empty, zero customer service, asked his name which differs from his name badge, reason for this is he doesn’t have a name badge !! Strange place

Incredibly rude service. Fortunately the service I received at Costa next to the restaurant was very friendly. The contrast was astonishing!!! Perhaps the former should request training from the latter in how to treat customers with respect. I shall not return.

Today I had the displeasure of dealing with Brendan at Chow. I love Chow and was excited to come since it was at this super busy services. Everywhere was packed and chow was empty - bit weird I thought. I tried to order with Brendan a simple Katsu curry and so begins the interaction with the single most brain dead man I’ve ever met. No rice, really?? ok I’ll have noodles, confusion kicks in for him and he shuffles about for a bit lost and dazed. He managed to cut my chicken into strips without losing any fingers thank god and then I ask for crackers - he says no crackers today as they deposit out of a machine into a tray behind him - I say I’d like to buy those ones, he takes the tray to the kitchen and continues to walk around all confused- comes back - I don’t know where we keep the bags - ok none of them either - I looked down to at least grab a bottle of water and that ain’t there so no point asking. I paid and just left bewildered, the whole interaction start to finish was painful. Who employed this clown. I love chow, the foods lovely but this interaction was beyond a joke. Guy must have been off his head to struggle with such simplicity, it was shocking.

The food is terrible, completely tasteless. The lady doesn't understand English.

Don’t do it!!! The staff were so moody, the food tasted weird and I now have an awful case of food poisoning, been being sick all day!! My dad has also gotten food poisoning from here!!

The food was lovely I had the chicken Katsu with noodles. However the member of staff a young girl behind the desk with long blonde hair was so so very rude. When people were asking what was available she rolled her eyes at them and said ‘no you can’t have that it’s all gone’ in a horrible tone rather than just saying ‘apologies we have run out’ she really seemed like she did not want to be there and was so angry and annoyed at people simply asking questions about ingredients or whether they could have some soy sauce! From working in customer service myself I get that some days you don’t want to deal with people so would normally sympathise but frankly she was just extremely rude and made people feel uncomfortable

Raw chicken and disgusting taste like stinky saliva. I asked him before by if is spicey he said not but IT IS SPICEY AND SOUR.

Visited Exeter services on the way home from Cornwall. Went to Chow for our tea and placed the order. Food looked amazing. Got to the table to find I had been given the wrong food. Went back to tell the server to be told that if I wanted to change the food I'd have to pay again, pointed out again that he had dished up the wrong food, to be told there's nothing I can do. You'll have to buy another meal. Absolute disgrace, you've let your company down!

The sauce and noodles are good but the chicken in the photo doesn’t look fresh. Also they don’t do brown rice.

Went in with a good size order (11 mains plus 4 sides). The staff although stretched were polite and courteous. Order was accurate and hot, what more can you ask for...

Typical exeter food cheap nasty ingredients and over priced. Large katsu curry with noodles. £9. Not as nice as it used to be. Instead of chicken breast they now use chicken thigh. Katsu curry- instead of being really tasty and nice now just tastes of salty chicken stock. Pathetic. So frustrated with Exeter everything is so overpriced. Still, it was nice enough to eat and my cat liked the chicken.

Love the katsu chicken however it is a little pricey but that's a service station rate. I would hope that this franchise opens in towns and city's rather than just at service stops.

I chose to have the sticky chicken with rice, much to my surprise found this was made with orange in the sauce.... Would have been good to know this due to being allergic!!!? Found out far to late!

I have been here around June time as I was on my way to England from Wales. The lady was very nice and very helpful and the food was very affordable. I liked how big the portions were and the variety of toppings for the noodles. Anyone could find something that they like without a problem. My only complaint is that it is a bit out of the way and hard to find. I would love this restaurant to be somewhere more accessible as it is genuinely a really nice place.

Halal chicken available. Awesome.

My favourite food is Udon, but I never had one so bad like today, no udon taste, not hot enough and then ordered some prawn katsu as a side and it came with someburned breadcrumbs, whatever they use for cooking or fry needs to be cleaned more often.

Very good for motorway services! The queue was insane and the seats and tables are sticky, like at all motorway services but the food was surprisingly good. Had the regular size and it is plenty! You get a choice of noodles or rice, both were good if a bit plain.. And then a meat or veg topping. The chicken katsu was good: the chicken was crispy but not dry. 2 big pieces in a regular or 3 in a large. While this is not gourmet is is a darn side better than the usual services options. Would definitely get from this chain again.

This is hands down one of the nicest Green Thai Chicken Curry I’ve ever had. 100% need to go again, shame that they’re only at service stations.

Stopped at Exeter Services and it was quite a surprise. We had Katsu curry and green Thai curry and it was good. Much better than the usual service station food.

I love it. Best is the chicken fillets + with red Thai veggie + rice combo <3.

Queued up for 20 minutes to be told it’s cash-only due to the machine going down. There was no way to pay as I haven’t handled cash in years. Not to mention the risk of using it during times of COVID-19. So they just wasted my time. They could have offered me some food for free but nope they would rather just annoy their customers. They were also having issues with the card machine a few months prior but hadn’t got it fixed. I would give this place 1 star but the staff seemed nice. The food is also enjoyable (if you are lucky to have cash on you)

Definitely not worth the money. Tastes worse than the microwavable stuff you can buy from the supermarket.

Best katsu I've had so far. Sometimes the chicken is dry and hard which they need to work on. But over all its a good eat. Nom

This is a moral issue: I was at Exeter Services late Friday evening and watched as the staff at Chow throwing away food.I asked could they let me have the food for a homeless chap sitting outside the services and was told no. What would be the difference from putting the food in the bin to helping this young man. I will tell all my friends of my experience and personally would never eat at Chow.

Rice is disgusting actually made me sick. Chicken or duck dishes they swamp it with rice or noodles you must have it and the noodles even worse than the rice. Terrible customer service what you would expect from moto hospitality staff.

I previously did leave a good review however, i do come here often and have returned to the services about 3 times this last week to try and get my regular meal i get as i really wanted it and they haven't had it at all although the signs where up saying it was available.. very disappointing if i'm honest and the service each time wasn't great.. I probably wont be returning as this last week has ultimately put me off of coming back.

No rice...again!! There is a choice of rice or noodles yet they rarely have rice available. It’s “cooking” but they’ve no idea how long it will take. I wasted my money on the plastic-tasting noodles. Their katsu curry with rice is sublime...when it’s available. Surely it can’t be that difficult to maintain availability of a key ingredient? No wonder they’re quiet and everyone else is busy.

The extension to the Exeter Services catering block wasn’t there the last time we stopped here and today we experienced a Chow Asian Kitchen counter for the first time. A novelty and a better selection than we expected as we came over. Not exceptional but well flavoured fresh tasting and reasonably priced.

Stopped here on our 9 hour journey back to Kent and was surprised to find how busy the service station was. Around 5 people were in front of me in the queue and it took around 15 mins before I got to the front. Everyone before me had ordered the katsu chicken with noodles so I was able to see what it looked like, and decided to go for it myself. I had it as a takeaway and paid around £7 for the small meal. It looked and smelled lovely and I couldn’t wait to get to the car to start eating. Finally on the road again, I started digging in and although a little messy, I thoroughly enjoyed it. Turned out the portion wasn’t too big either. I’ve never had this before but would now definitely try it again if I were to come across this franchise again. Lovely unexpected meal!

Verities of noodles and chicken flavour with reasonable prices and good services.

There's no other way to put it, the katsu curry here is rubbish. The curry sauce is really just salt water coloured to look like a gravy. The staff incapable of understanding what to do with the feedback, but such is the problem with these service station outlets.

Didn’t fancy the usual burger, so opted for chow Asian kitchen, was quite surprised by the quality and flavour. The service was exceptional,

Fast, friendly, tasty. Sometimes a bit heavy on the salt, but a welcome alternative to Burger Kong or Greigs ; )

Tasty food and much better than your usual service station selection. Only downside is the price which is admittedly a little steep. If the meals were £1-2 cheaper then this would get the coveted 5 star rating but until then this is still a good option for food if you're stopping over here. Check it out!

Sadly there are no sushi places in cornwall, well there was one but it shut down. So was very happy to find chow when we stopped at Exeter services. Staff are friendly and Sushi was amazing, a lot better then expected, came back the next day for more!

Super excited to find fresh sushi in a service station, even more excited when I realised how damn tasty it is! We stopped here travelling up country, loved it so much we grabbed some on the way home to have for dinner!! Very high standard of sushi, staff were lovely. Can't comment on the hot food because we only gorged on sushi, but... if you like sushi and you're passing by, make sure you stop off!

Had sweet and sour chicken - tasted like school dinners

Every other Sunday, I get the chicken katsu curry, large with noodles instead of rice. It is the actual G! I love this place so much, the food is pretty good quality, halal and you get a lot for not too much.

Was very disappointed in the sushi. Tastes stale and was made over 24 hours previously. Advertised as fresh sushi but would say otherwise. 3* given as excellent customer service and full refund given.

El sushi tiene un sabor similar al de Tesco. Parece que no está preparado el mismo día. Otros alimentos como sopa udon, tempura, arroz con pollo. . . no es tan sabroso Mucho mejor se puede comer en Japón, Corea.

Tan pronto como pasé, supe lo que me apetecía en lugar de Burger King y Greggs. Tuve el curry de verduras y arroz. Muy agradable. Dejé espacio para hacer una tarta junto a Greggs para un pastel, así que no tenía un lado, pero los lados parecían haber estado allí un tiempo de todos modos. Hay muchas opciones y yo tenía la más pequeña que venía en una caja y había la cantidad correcta. Los servicios de Exeter se han actualizado y hay más opciones. Solía ​​evitar estos servicios debido a que se agotaba con el paso de los años.

Mmmm, enjoyed this a lot! It's good to see that decent food is finally starting to become a thing at motorway services. I had the veggie udon noodle soup thing - very tasty and filling, just what you need before losing yet more hours of your life to the traffic jam that is the M5.

It s ok if they don’t fill completely your box... but less than half... and some spare souce with no chicken at all... It is not worth the money at all.

The balance between rice and Curry is not equal. To much rice and the Curry was average.

Highly recommended chicken/pumpkin or prawn curry with noodles all delicious :) Regular portion is huge - my 10yr old said he preferred it to Burger King. Friendly quick service with no queues :)

Forget your preconceptions about over priced and below standard service station food. Ignore the familiar names, the greasy burgers and fry ups. Chow Asian kitchen can offer one of the best meals your likely to eat in a long time. Freshly cooked, generous portions at a price that would put your local takeaway to shame. Great choice of dishes to suit all tastes. Helpful friendly staff that are knowledgeable about their products and more than happy to help out if you have an allergy or fussy eater. Stopped off recently just to eat here again and wasn't disappointed.
