I have visited this place many many times. Because it is the very best. The breakfast is fit for a king, the ambience is lovely and the staff and welcoming and wonderful. The deli itself is like a classic high end deli with the sort of fascinating foods you can’t really get anywhere. It’s a beacon of delight in a world of bland mediocrity. I just hope it finds the clientele that deserve it. People who cherish an affordable but better experience.also an absolutely first class breakfast. I’ve eaten all around this town and there is none to hold a candle to it.

We popped in for lunch as we could see some empty tables. No hello, no smile just a ‘Have you booked?’ Unprofessional and rude. Manners cost nothing….. maybe Management should consider this when employing their staff. I live relatively local, but won’t cross the threshold again.

Absolutely brilliant place for food. Been many times with friends for lunch but just been again for breakfast with my Partner (his first time in) and as always the standard was perfect. We both agreed the full English was a 12/10. Staff also always really friendly and the baby change facilities are another win for me with having a little one and most places lacking this in their cafes. Can’t recommend enough!

Wonderful breakfast with a great cup of tea. The staff are friendly and the shop has some great food from local suppliers. The black pudding was very good scoring a fat 7 on the Stornoway scale.

The Chopping Block is a cafe/butcher/specialist food shop combo. This review is for the cafe. The butchery is second to none, but it's expensive throughout. However, if you're looking for high quality, sustainable, local meat, it's worth the extra ££. Their homemade black pudding is delicious, as are their chorizo flavoured sausages. And the shop is a real pleasure to wander around - a haven for foodies. There the positive's end - at least from our experience today. And so to this review: The cafe is the trendy spot for coffee and brunch/lunch. I've been a few times before and decided to take a friend as a treat. Whilst the coffee is great, the cakes are mediocre at best, but the cooked food, is very good (and that's what we went for this morning). We waited to be seated, as instructed, whilst the waitress cleaned down a vacated table. I noticed a sign on one of the empty tables and leaned over to read it. I was rudely informed that "you can't sit there, it's reserved", and she then proceeded to tell us the only other vacant table was reserved from 11.45am, (it was just gone 10.30am, so we had plenty of time, or so I thought). Finally, we were crammed onto a tiny table at the back and then we waited, waited and waited some more. Eventually we were given menus, no apology for the wait, and told there would be at least a further 30 min wait, because chef had got another 6 orders on and she was "rushed off her feet"! Why didn't she just explain that in the beginning? It would have saved the rude off hand comments, the wait for menus and this review! To be clear, its not that there was a wait, or that chef was busy, or that she was rushed off her feet, it's that she was out and out rude. So people should rethink their career choices.

Whilst staying in the area, we visited the Chopping Block on a couple of occasions. It’s an interesting place combining an excellent butchery section, some unusual groceries, a tempting deli and a small but very popular cafe. There are additional tables outside but a cold, damp December day necessitated a table indoors. The menu, like the venue, is interesting! In addition to the dishes listed, snacks are available from the deli counter with the sausage rolls being particularly tasty. I certainly enjoyed the fish and chip “butty” which was surprisingly large with both the fish and chips crispy and well cooked. In addition to savoury dishes, there’s a tempting selection of cakes. As previously mentioned, the Chopping Block is very popular and at busy times, there may be a wait for a table. The staff are very helpful and friendly and once food is ordered, there isn’t too long a delay in being served. The one disappointment when we visited, was the coffee…very bitter and not particularly hot but other than that, we had no complaints. We thought prices reasonable. The location is good, only a few minutes walk from Sainsbury’s car park ( three hours available). The Chopping Block is a welcome addition to the eating scene in Penrith and we would certainly visit again when next in the area.

Treated ourselves to a fantastic rib of beef (3 ribs). Our best meal for over a year either at home or in restaurant. So tasty and tender. Got the internal temperature up to 50c then rested for an hour while finishing off the spuds and Yorkshires. We will be back for more.

A fine example of diversification to ensure that each locality can purchase top quality meat from a butcher rather shrink wrapped meat from a supermarket. Prime cuts can be seen dry ageing in two stainless steel fridges with glass fronts. The deli offers a wide range of cooked meats and cheeses sourced locally and from across Britain plus a number of tempting items from the continent. Presently a restricted menu if offered from the cafe that provides table service. A meat board choice might be seaweed and cider salami from Cornwall, with Jamon Serrano from La Rioja. A cheese board might include pitchfork Cheddar from Somerset and Colton Bassett Stilton. My latte was carefully prepared and I could not resist a Salted Caramel Cannoli.

The dry aged steak from this place is outstanding. It’s become compulsory food for every trip up to my sisters place in the Lakes. From Persian style with Mr. N, open fire and foraged mushrooms with Josh to served with champagne and truffles courtesy of Lady Millen, it never fails to delivery. Plus they do a Too Good to Go, which I suspect I am way too disorganised to ever catch, speaks to recommend any business.

A chance to show off one of my favourite eats to my brother in law, & your didn't disapoint. We were again overwhelmed by the service & food. I again ordered the mouthwatering pulled pork, this time with brie on toast, side salad in a really tasty vinegaret. I bragged about my dish to the my guests but they were too busy tucking into the Tomato & Red pepper soup or savouring over the sausage roll. Thank you ( yet again ) for a fantastic meal & Service. Those of you reading this looking for a negative, well there is one. Brother in law wants to come up & visit us again! 😂

While looking for food we stumbled on this lucky find. The Bothy is a very welcoming themed cafe, due to most other venues in Kirby Stephen only serving drinks that day the bothy was busy but we still received a warm welcome and advised we would have a wait, we didn’t mind so placed our order. The food was different, not the cheapest but absolutely delicious, the staff even though very busy were so polite and kept us informed of progress with our order. A bit more of an offer for children would be a bonus.

We go to The Bridge about 4 times per year. We are not very extravagant but when we do eat out we want it to be better than I can make at home. Any guest we bring with us all love it too. Every meal we’ve had here has been excellent! My favourites are Twice Baked Cheese Soufflé, The Seafood Linguini, my hubby loves the Fish & Chips (he has this every time he goes, lol) . My son loves the Squid starter and I also love the Pate when it’s on. I had a gorgeous fish course in spring but I forget the name of the fish which was the whitest fish I’ve ever seen. I highly recommend Bridge Bistro.

Had an excellent early supper, starters were beautiful, good selection, tasty and well presented . The mains, steaks and a roast dinner were equally good. Substantial portions and cooked exactly to our specifications. We had delicious desserts and everything was complemented by some very good wines. The staff were very friendly and attentive. The chef obviously uses quality ingredients and is extremely competent . Lovely ambience, delicious supper.
