There is only filter coffee available. No other coffees . Food is just cold sandwiches. No home made cakes. No soups, salads or hot food. New ownership hence the change in menu. Very disappointing.

Very disappointing. Food is extremely expensive and poor quality. We sat outside as the inside of the cafe is now damp, dreary and run down. As usual they had a major wasp problem which seemed out of control. The whole place now just feels neglected. Such a shake.

Nice little spot under the trees with wooden tables to sit at outside and a covered area as well. The coffee warmed us up on a very wet day. Lady in tea room very nice and friendly. Toilets are situated in a separate building to the rear.

Dismal experience I'm sorry to say. We stopped off at the cafe for lunch before we left the gardens, which had been a lovely morning out with the kids. We paid almost £50 for four sandwiches and some drinks. We were told some items were unavailable, but we could still have the order without them. This was not accounted for in our bill however and we paid £9.35 for an egg mayo sandwich (no cress available) and £13.95 for a ploughman's (no pies available). When the food did arrive it was extremely poor quality. The cheese and ham had a plastic like flavour as though they came from a packet, the coleslaw and salad tasted soapy, the egg mayo had no flavour at all and the brown bread was stale and overly sweet. Neither my wife or daughter could eat more than one bite of their meal. There was also a dog running around in the seating and food prep areas and there was dog food on the floor which seems unsanitary.

We had a lovely walk around the gardens and then popped into the tea room for lunch. I had a bacon and brie panini and my OH had the chili nachos. Both were delicious. Service was professional and very friendly. Several people were having the Afternoon Tea which looked lovely. The tea room itself is clean and tidy but old, and the staff have to work in a cramped kitchen which must make busy times very difficult. The whole place needs knocking down and rebuilt to match the beauty of the surroundings. Imagine a gorgeous conservatory Tea Room in this setting! You would be here every day.....

We visited today for lunch and felt very let down. They had run out of a lot of key ingredients. It was very expensive for what it was and the staff seemed to have very little knowledge of the products they were providing. Despite the fact there seemed to be enough staff, the service was slow and haphazard and the tables around us remained uncleared for the duration of our stay. It all seemed very armature and we wished we had gone elsewhere.

The pizza making activity was excellent. The staff were friendly, knowledgeable and very good with children. They taught the children about different herbs and vegetables, showed them how to cut the vegetables safely and then how to make the pizzas. My children had great fun making their pizzas. Afterwards we ate then in the cafe gardens. We also ordered extra cakes and drink which are always delicious! Thank you for an excellent day out, we’ll be back soon!

Fantastic service. I emailed the day before our visit to book a picnic. Communication to arrange what I wanted was excellent, friendly and helpful. On collection of picnic during visit Belinda took the time to introduce herself and the lady that had actually put our picnic together which I thought was great especially as they were so busy. We were even supplied with a picnic blanket to sit on. The picnic itself was delicious and good value for money. We will definitely be returning to the gardens and visiting the tea rooms again. Many thanks to Belinda and her team 🧡

Situated at the top of the gardens in a sheltered spot, hidden from the main gardens, is the tea shop. It's rustic - benches outside, inside functional. Had booked afternoon tea with my parents - about £12/head. Simple presentation - sandwiches, variety of cakes, scone and jam and a macaron each to finish. The quality was excellent - everything was home cooked/made. And it was just the right amount - not stuffed, but cleared the plate! Service was good, informal and the staff were keen to make sure we had a good time. Parents loved it!

What a fantastic little gem in the Cheshire countryside! Jen and Dee catered for my daughters dietary requirements fantastically and the attention to detail was like no other. Nothing was too much trouble and the service we received was superb. Thank you ladies! I would definitely recommend this quaint little cafe to anyone who was visiting Cholmondley Castle gardens. We had a super day walking around the gardens, finished off with a family lunch of sandwiches, cakes and ice cream for the children (of course!). Great value for money and totally yummy! We will be back!

Get to the loos out the back. Lovely sausage sandwich served by Jenny and her team. The gardens in spring are amazing. My only comment would it be great to see labels on the plants so for non garden plant officiandoes we know what we are looking at and admiring.

The tea rooms at Cholmondeley Castle are in a very pleasant location with space to sit and enjoy this grand old bit of England, either out in the sun, in shade or indoors. The food is good, wholesome and freshly prepared and the menu is fairly basic. It offers a fair product for a reasonable price. We visited on a weekday out of school holidays and it was perfect; I can imagine that in-season, or at a weekend, in fine weather it may easily be overwhelmed!

Excellent food well presented and obviously home made. Jenny and her team catered for our coach trip of 39 members over two siitings and everything was perfect. The tea rooms may be a little small but Jenny and her team were very efficient as they not only had our caoch trip but another one and independent travellers. Well done Castle tea room team

We had cake and coffee in the tea room and it was very nice. I had Bara Brith which was delicious and I was very impressed as my husband has to follow a gluten free diet and he had a gluten free hot cross bun. We sat outside and enjoyed our cake but you could sit inside if you wanted to. The staff were all friendly and we will definitely visit again.

After walking through the gardens and perhaps going up Tower Hill to take in the view, a visit to the tea room is the the perfect reward. Best Bara Brith in the world!! Always a warm friendly greeting, sit inside or, if you have your four legged friend, sit outside and breathe in the atmosphere. Go visit.

We recently visited Cholmondeley Castle, and the grounds and gardens are quite spectacular, and we finished with lunch in the tearooms, where nothing was too much trouble, and the ice cream and apple pie was to die for. Clean toilets everywhere and plenty of parking, an old chapel in the grounds, and lots of very large fish in the lake made it a good day out,

We visited Cholmondeley castle and gardens by chance. It is a great family day out if the weather is good. The castle grounds are so vast that a picnic would be the order of the day however, I would thoroughly recommend the castle tea room. The large and varied menu caters for everyone which came as a plesant surprise, (the norm. with these places is very little choice in the way of food and to rip you off). Nothing was too much trouble for the ladies doing the catering, our lunch was made fresh.

Birthday treat for afternoon tea. Put us in a room on our own so I asked to be moved to sit with everyone else dining...which they did. Sandwiches brought out on saucer sized plate then another plate with cakes and scones. I asked why not served on 3 tier cake stand as she gave some poor excuse as to cakes might melt so they don't use them hower other diners had them! They forgot to bring the strawberries and cream and champagne we ordered. Waitress was moody and unhelpful and we had to go into bar for a cocktail as they were now shutting!! Huge amount of money for poor food and service. Never been back!

The Woodland is close to Ellemere Port Hospital and serves for much of the day. Usual "Stonehouse" fayre. Very pleasant member of staff who checked for allergies and carried our drinks to our table as I am dodgy on my feet. We took advantage of the offer of two meals for £11.75 from a reduced menu. Pleasant food, but nothing special, except the price.

I come to Chester for work and stopped off at the Peacock for a Sunday roast, I was blown away by how nice the beef was and the staff who served were amazing and very polite. A 10/10 experience I would definitely recommend and will be returning in the future for more roast dinners
