Myself and my partner visited the Chocolate Cafe on a Saturday lunchtime with my brother and his family who have been several times before. Our group included a 3 year old and a 7 month old. Service was fantastic, the staff were all super friendly and couldn't do enough to help. Great provisions for a Coeliac member of the party. Food was spot on, it is freshly cooked and delicious. Huge range of brownies, all of which we tried were also delicious. Some reviews mention slow food service but it was not out of the ordinary for freshly cooked food in a small kitchen so perhaps would advise to book a table a little earlier than kids will be desperate for feeding 😊.

Friendly staff, relaxed atmosphere, was plenty of room when we went around dinnertime. Setting is nice enough but it is abit on the expensive side, i appreciate the food was nicer quality than greasy spoon stuff. Food was freshly cooked but it did mean abit of a wait.

I visited the chocolate cafe in Ramsbottom on Saturday afternoon with a friend for a late lunch and to buy some original and quirky chocolate gifts for Christmas. The staff were young, very friendly, efficient and welcoming. The service was quick and the food was lovely. The staff regularly checked in with us to see everything was ok. Thank you for a lovely experience 😊

I was a bit dubious after seeing latest reviews as i hadnt been since before lockdown. My son booked for the 5 of us ,we were seated upstairs, at the time the cafe was about 75 percent full, with reserved tables and they had to turn away some customers. The staff all young, were friendly and attentive nothing was too much trouble. The only disapointment was they didnt have my sons choice of milkshake. We were served quickly but not rushed and all our food and drinks were delicious. I was happy inside, but wouldnt have liked to sit across the busy road, should the option have been there. Thankyou for a pleasant experience.

This cafe has gone downhill since my last visit the front of house staff clearly don't care more interested in playing on their phones then actually doing their job or just standing about chatting to each other the poor lass in the kitchen had to ask them for service about 5 times before they came to take the food and I had to ask for my order to be taken after sitting there for 20 minutes and trying to get their attention and they looked shocked that they had to do something the food was fine though they wouldn't know that as no checkback was done I honestly do not recommend this place unless you want to be served by people who clearly have no idea what they're doing or by people who don't care about the customers because they're either stupid or just want to play on their phones all day long

Been here once before and thought the food was great. 2nd time around we didn’t get to try the food because the service was so slow. We had been waiting 40 minutes for waffles, pancakes and a salad before we got up and left. If you can’t cope with a full cafe, reduce the number of tables to a more manageable number. 🤷🏻

Have visited here several times before, and loved it! Visited on Friday 17th June, and was very disappointed. Main indoor seating area was closed, so only a couple of small tables downstairs available. Apparently ‘ everyone wants to sit outside’ - across a busy road from the cafe itself, and on an extremely busy crossroads with hgvs manoeuvring round the corners, chaos and bedlam, impossible to have a conversation with the person sitting next to you! Service was dreadful, understandably, I felt sorry for the staff to be honest! Food was good as usual when it finally arrived. Please get the cafe reopened, apologies if they are refurbishing but there was no sign of any work going on.

This was our first trip to the Chocolate Cafe, we were passing through Ramsbottom and as we had three little ones with us, it looked like the perfect place for lunch. The owner was incredibly friendly and made a fuss of the children when we arrived. The adults food was excellent and the children loved their little lunchboxes served in a cardboard replica of the cafe! There was a nice little area for smaller children to play with some toys to keep them entertained whilst the adults talked. We purchased some chocolate from the downstairs shop for our journey which was delicious. What a wonderful place to stumble across, the people of Ramsbottom are lucky to have it on their doorstep.

For anyone in Ramsbottom looking to have a meet up with a friend over a coffee (or hot choccy!!) but worried about having children to entertain then this is perfect. As most parents around Ramsbottom will know although we have lots of lovely cafes they aren’t majorly child friendly. The chocolate cafe is fully geared up. They have space to store prams downstairs and lots of highchairs. The play area was a huge hit with our little tester who played the whole time we were chatting. We had the afternoon tea for 2 which comes with tea, coffee, hot choccy or a soft drink which is great as we both prefer a hot choccy or soft drink to tea or coffee. The sandwich choice was good and they accommodated my friend who was vegetarian. Plenty of yummy cakes to munch on and the scones were lovely (could have so done with some more jam but only because we both like lots!) Definitely give them a chance! The new owners are lovely and appreciated any feedback too which is great to see.

It’s my second visit since the new openers took over a few weeks ago. Some great changes - new decor and small play area. Some definite areas which need improvement fast though. I know the new owners have plans to change the menu but some of the food is worse than before. And some just needs simple tweaks. The sandwich bread is too thick, especially on kids’ sandwiches - too much bread for filling. Came with one cherry tomato, one slice of cucumber and a handful of crisps. Looked a bit worse for wear. The adult tuna melt had a similar poorly-looking tiny side salad. Used to have a more imaginative side salad and coleslaw. Same with the jacket potato, it all looked a bit lacking in effort. We sat at the table for a good five minutes while the three servers chatted. I eventually got up to get menus. The tables are narrow which means they get full fast and with kids it all got stressful. Empties were not cleared and no one asked if we wanted anything else so we left. Another minor gripe - the large poster over the kids’ area spells believe without an e and is missing an apostrophe on world’s. Kids’ plastic cutlery had been chewed badly. Just makes it all look a bit unprofessional. I really hope the new owners get a grip on it, but it’s not been the same since the original owners left. The food really needs to up its game. And the service. They can’t afford to lose customers at the start but I’m afraid I won’t be in a rush to return. It’s not good enough to say changes are coming next year. By then, people will have opted for the other options in Ramsbottom. They need to do the current menu well and at the moment it’s all a bit lacklustre.

Not been in for a while so decided to visit with my friend. We both fancied a triple decker bacon sandwich only to be informed that the menu has changed and they no longer have the triple decker’s on. We asked if it was the same bacon which she said yes to but when it arrived it was just normal bacon no longer the maple syrup bacon. The sandwich is no longer toasted bread but thick sliced bread. We were disappointed but it was a nice enough sandwich. Thankfully they do still have the mocha made with real chocolate which is my favourite, it beats all mochas! Service was good and is still a nice place to visit despite all the changes made since the new owners took over.

We visited the chocolate cafe today, which had been booked for a few weeks as a get together treat for my birthday. We would usually go to my favorite chocolate shop in Prestwich but they were booked up. I really did try to be open minded and was determined to enjoy the experience. My determination didn’t work today ☹️ The service was diabolical and we were there for 3 hours having breakfast!!! The food was average at best with very little selection. The chocolate was lovely tasting but very overpriced. We were squashed together (9 of us) and had no legroom whatsoever. The young waitresses held no conversation at all and not once were we asked if things were ok. I’m left feeling very disappointed. To finish, me and hubby had the sharing chocolate fondue- this was £7.00 and just ridiculous. I work hard for my money and while the chocolate was nice, there was no luxury to it at all. The bacon butties had very little bacon on. I could go on and on. It’s a real shame because we were hoping to have found a lovely choccy treat place nearer to home. The reviews are very hit and miss, maybe someone should start taking notice of them?? I’ll make sure that I book my fave place well in advance in future - back to Slatteries it is then.

We visited the cafe for afternoon tea for my mother's birthday. I was dissapointed to say the least. After over an hour's wait we were served a rather poor afternoon tea. I think they have really missed the mark on what an afternoon tea is. A slab of dry cake, a three cheese wrap with a measly portion of cheese a teaspoon of coleslaw for each person and some wilted salad leaves with a handful of chocs is not what I would expect. What makes this all the more disappointing is that I've been here many times in the past (before the changes in 2017) and it used to be wonderful. We did try to give feedback about the food we were given but to be honest it fell on deaf ears. We were offered free drinks because of the sheer amount of time we had waited. The children we were with were almost ready to eat the napkins it was such a long time. We declined the drinks and were given a discount from the bill. Oh and I forgot to add the children's afternoon tea was a total disgrace half a soggy wrap, half a cherry tomato and two slices of cucumber, a handful of tortilla chips and slab of chocolate cake that was cheap tasting and very dry. The chocolate made on the premises was all very tasty but the rest of the produce was cheap tasting and very overpriced. Please go back to the old model it was so much better.

Booked a table for afternoon tea after looking at cafe online. To me , afternoon tea consists of a selection of finger sandwiches and selection of cakes arranged in a nice fashion with tablecloths etc. What we were offered was far from that. Basically it was A sandwich and A cake of choice served on a cheap plastic cake tier...........and with salad. Who serves salad with afternoon tea?. It was freezing cold so had to keep my jacket on. On the plus side the sandwich that we did have was very nice and the staff were lovely but was sooo disappointed and at nearly £14 a head, was definitely not worth it.

Spent a couple of hours mooching round Ramsbottom and couldn't decide which of the lovely cafes to visit for lunch. My son was immediately tempted by the name though and liked the look of the desserts, so we succumbed. The upstairs cafe was pretty full but there were 4 servers, which should have been more than enough, but service was very slow. It was 20 minutes before our order was taken, then a further 20 minutes until we got our drinks ... By the time our food arrived, we were really short of time so had to miss out on the desserts that we'd really gone in for. Food was okay. I had a tuna toastie, which was all right, son had nachos, which he enjoyed, but we could probably have had those anywhere. The chocolate buttons that came with my cup of tea were lovely. I don't think we'd bother coming back, unless it was just for a pudding expedition.

I had a ham and cheese toastie which was nicely presented and the cheese very tasty, the toast not too well done, and with a fresh little salad. I also ordered a Tango to drink, which at £2 was quite expensive for a can of pop, however I was sitting in and received table service, so this wouldn't put me off going again. The jacket potato I think was around £6 or £7 which I though was reasonably priced (apart from the lack of salad).

We came here on Good Friday with my partner and his family. I think the food is extremely over priced (£7 for a cheese toastie) and was definitely nothing special. The young girl who originally served us was very pleasant but another girl who served us was extremely rude. They didn't move our plates from our table when we were finished eating.

I enjoyed my fudge cake and a Mint Chocolate Mocha (I actually said milk chocolate mocha when I ordered- but it was very yummy so I am pleased I was misunderstood as I would never have thought to try this combination otherwise) I wouldn't make a special trip out but if I am in the area again it is definitely worth a visit.

I've been here several times when friends are making the choice of venue. Nice idea for a cafe, but it's a tourist trap. Food is expensive (£7.50 for a toasted sandwich) and low quality (they don't seem to be able to even toast a tea cake successfully), service is slow and the tables are cramped. An interesting range of hot chocolate drinks, if they make it to your table while still warm. Impossible to get the kids to have anything healthy, but I guess that's to be expected.

I have been going to the chocolate cafe at least monthly (often 2-3 times each school holiday too) for many years now but I'm afraid my love affair with it is over. The last two times we went, making our usual 30 min journey, the cafe was closed unexpectedly early. The first time they said they have run out of food and the second time they said it was due to staff illness. Whilst I sympathize with unexpected events and can forgive one unexpected closure, twice in a month is a bit much. The problem is that we make a special long journey to get there so I just can't keep doing this for a place that seems to keep random opening hours (however good the hot chocolate). On both occasions I explained that we had travelled a long way and had checked the websites opening hours, had arrived in plenty of time (more than two hours before last orders) but there was little they would offer expect 'sorry'. Perhaps a voucher to encourage us to return might have made good business sense.

We stopped for a quick coffee whilst wandering through Ramsbottom. The cakes looked amazing so we both had a cake with our coffee and hot chocolate.

My friend and I go regularly for the gorgeous Mochas made with real chocolate! The best around, EVER! Staff acknowledge us every time as returning customers, so friendly and welcoming. We had lunch today, we both had cheese on toast, I had a mocha and my friend ordered teapig breakfast tea, followed by chocolate fudge cake with a latte for me and my friend had a scone with jam and cream with more tea! Lovely food, beautifully presented and brilliant service. We will be back

Visited here around 3 pm on a Saturday, we got a table easily ... I noticed all the staff were young girls around 16 / 18 ... after 10 minutes I had to ask where do we order .. they were too busy gossiping and not paying enough attention to customer needs ... she replied I will come now and take your order .. there didn't seem to be anyone managing them, even my Dad commented saying they need to be told ... what we did notice they were grabbing chocolate buttons with their hands putting them on a saucer to compliment your coffee and we were watching them make hot chocolate doing the exact same with the marshmallows where are their gloves !!!!!! Don't get me wrong they are polite when spoken to but managers need to train these girls properly on customer service and hygiene ... will I return NO .. Slatterys's is far better ...also not disabled friendly ..

My partner and I stumbled across the chocolate cafe when we visited Ramsbottom for a day out and we’ve been back 3 times since! It’s a very small and cozy shop/cafe and serves some amazing chocolate! We decided on this visit if we were lucky enough to grab a bite to eat as the cafe was full on our previous visits with guests queuing to be seated and we can see why! The hot chocolates are amazing and made to your liking, the caramel chocolate buttons are a million times better than Cadbury and the normal menu items (that aren’t chocolate) tasted great too! The shop always has offers such as 3 for £10 on bars which isn’t expensive as you’re definitely paying for the quality. All in all, chocolate lovers need to get down to The Chocolate Cafe and see what Chocolate Heaven really tastes like!

we went to Ramsbottom to visit a friend and at the same went to this chocolate cafe which we were looking forward to. unfortunately they are not to our surprise disabled friendly. my husband cannot climb stairs and were very very unwilling to serve us downstairs where there was a table and 2 chairs and made a feeble excuse blaming health and safety. I would have thought under the disabled discrimination act it was law for them to cater for the disabled. if you cannot climb 2 flights of stairs I would definitely not bother going don't waste your time.

Popped in for a brew and a treat! Fantastic chocolate. Lovely pot of tea. Given a free sample of the mince pie choc bar which was delicious! Offered a bag to take home treats we couldn’t finish. Couldn’t leave without buying a few gifts. Will be back!

We called in for coffee and cake. Whilst not cheap at £3,75 a slice, the cake is homemade and is served with cream or ice cream. The ice cream was really good quality ice cream and the cake slice a decent size.

Toasted Club Sandwich - served with cold chicken..wouldn't have expected any cold meat in a toasted sandwich and tasted bland. Not worth £8. Soup was tepid and would have expected it to be hot. Would return here but only for the desserts & drinks due to how nice their chocolate is but food needs improving.

Yeah not great I'm afraid, went for a chocolate milkshake, got something that reminded me of those powdery ones your mum used to make, the cake was ok. Ice-cream afterwards was ok, I think I would describe the experience as OK. Staff were very young but to be fair they were, erm ok, sorry but it's how I remember the visit, a good solid ok. Will I return, probably not but only as there are other places to visit.

The conservatory is a lovely spot for your meal/snack, all the staff are very nice and pleasant. We have been coming here regularly for over two years and always had a brilliant meal both lunch and breakfast although over the last couple of breakfasts these have been poor as they have been overcooked.

Very busy on visit, maybe 'cos it was market day? Barman was rushed off his feet (ty for picking up my bus pass that I dropped), Had ham & eggs & a beer.

Recently changed management, at first the beer was excellent as usual, but unfortunately new barman is either not trained up to pull pints or doesn't care. Shame used to go in regularly as the beer was first class, unless this problem is rectified won't be 🤔😒😒
