Chocks Away Diner in Flintshire

Decided to make s journey and make this my dinner stop on the way so glad I did I was welcomed and shown to my table you get plenty of choices on the menu but I decided to go for the Roast Lamb Dinner ans I was disappointed all you get plenty of tasty lamb lovely fresh vegetables ans some very nice roast potatoes as well with plenty of yummy gravy on top of the yorkshire pudding overall it's one of the best I've had 10/10, I still had room for dessert and you get plenty of choice here I fancied a hot pudding but they didn't do them so I had a nice piece of Victoria Sponge was very nice finished the meal of greatly, its a great place to view the airfield and plenty of play area foe the kids if you have some overall excellent I will be back again on one of my journeys, thank you

We love it here, we had the Caesar salad, tomato and pepper soup and the all day breakfast. Very good, lovely helpful staff! And even got a beluga plane to take home, cheers!

We came here for the wake following my Mother's funeral as it was one of her favourite places. She often came brought her grandchildren here and also came for brekkie. We had the Red Arrows room which was just perfect for our family. Tracey handled our booking and looked after us, even putting out framed pictures of Mum that we had brought the day before. The staff were really good, friendly and nothing too much trouble. We chose afternoon tea as Mum loved it, the food was delicious, the portions very generous and my son said the egg mayo sandwiches were the best he'd ever had. I highly recommend Chocks Away. We booked a table for afternoon tea and we had not been here before. It was obviously popular and a member of staff walked down the line checking if people had booked and took them straight to their table. Others were seated as fast whilst we awaited our food. There are huge windows facing the runway and flying school which was lovely to look at whilst we were there. The food was served quite promptly. The afternoon tea was excellent with optional smoked salmon, chicken/prawn mayonnaise, ham etc, fresh scones clotted cream and jam and a lovely selection of cakes. We naturally watched as other meals were served and we could not believe the size of the portions and how delicious they and the home made ? chips looked. Other customers looked very happy with their meals too. Toasties were bulging with contents as were the burgers. The standard of service was excellent and friendly, in fact very enthusiastic and quite unique. It was lovely watching the small planes take off and land, with the added bonus of watching the beluga taxi and take off over our building. We will definitely go there again soon and highly recommend Chocks Away

Great value, wide menu and friendly service. Very interesting view over the Broughton runway - even if you don’t see take offs and landings of anything from Cessnas to Belugas, you still see a lot of pretty sky. Went there with teen and granny and we all enjoyed it. I had the Christmas parsnip soup, granny had ham & cheese toastie and teen had a humongous plate of chicken & mushroom pie, chips, baked beans, peas and its own gravy boat. We shared fully loaded Sharing Nachos and a plate of chips. Hot chocolate, huge glass of orange juice and a big coffee. Only £37. Far too much food for the 3 of us and we wrapped up some to take home for the dog. But we ate all the chips as they were darn good chips! I’d highly recommend trying this place even if you only get drinks and a Sharing plate, but really you should come here with a healthy appetite ready for a relaxing hour or so looking over the airfield. Oh, and it has an outdoor playground too, that you can supervise from indoors whilst enjoying your coffee!

This place is hands down one of THE BEST venues in the Cheshire / Flintshire area. Amazing value for money, delicious food, charming staff… it’s clear a lot of love has gone into this place. We truly hope this absolute gem of a place stays the way it is. Also if you like planes (from an aviation fan) you must come by default….

We booked a table as we expected it to be busy as it was Half Term. We got there and the lady asked if we booked to which I said yes and was told to sit anywhere. We sat near the window on a table of 4 and there was 3 of us. Every table had reserved on it. I was ordering food and the lady who told me to sit anywhere went over to my wife and asked her to move as someone else needed that table. We were moved in to the other area near the kitchen which was cramped. I went to the counter to order a drink and there was only 2 people at the table. As we left there was only 3 people at the table. We got moved for no reason at all. The food was basic and nothing to rave home about. We were charged extra for the Nacho’s as they charged us for a sharing platter even though I just asked for nachos and we ordered to more meals so not sure where the sharing bit came into it and we were never asked if we wanted it as a sharing. I asked for no beans on the XL Breakfast and it came with beans

Met with family members who had never visited this venue before. The food, size of well cooked portions and friendly service was brilliant. Everyone was impressed with the views of the air traffic passing the windows on the runway. Good all round visit..

I seriously don't understand how this place gets good reviews. It's like a cafeteria you have to queue to be allocated a table and queue again to order food. Our food was poor. An undercooked jacket potato with fairly dry tuna mayo and a rubbery sausage roll with pastry I couldn't cut with a knife served with chips and beans that were ok. I would not recommend. The highlight of the visit was seeing a Beluga take off!

What a hidden gem! Based at Hawerden Airport this place does a super extensive menu. The food is great and so is the service. From the diner you can the airstrip and watch the Airbus come in and out! Well worth a visit even just for their milkshakes!

Afternoon tea for me, mother, daughter and granddaughter, place was so busy and service was excellent so friendly and helpful, food was lovely and loads of it, we have been there before for afternoon tea and breakfast I would highly recommend to anyone for food and service best place around

We are regular diners here, but the first time we've had afternoon tea. Fantastic service throughout from the lovely Elisha (hope that's right). Quality and quantity was superb!!! Sandwiches were fresh, plain + fruit scones and the most deeelicious fancies. We had tea for three and this was replaced, as and when we wanted it. We treated ourselves to a glass of fizz too, which topped it off nicely. This is by far, one of the nicest afternoon teas any of us has had. We can heartily recommend.

I have been coming here for a few years. I live in Chester. I can’t fault this place and my fave place on Chester area for brekkie and lunch. Fab setting watching the planes take off. Children’s playground outside. The range and quality of food fantastic. I usually have slimmers breakfast as often on a diet or jacket potato with tuna which is huge and comes with lovely salad. Today we had signature steak burger which was absolutely gorgeous great meat too. My husband and daughter usually have big brekkies, lovely mushrooms not greasy but tasty. The staff are fab really quick efficient service and processes and really helpful. I saw a member of staff today not only be calm and friendly when a child threw their meal all over the floor but swiftly come to clear it up telling the family not to worry, then proceeded to talk in a fun way to the young kids asking their names etc. Also great mug of tea I know sounds a small thing but few places get this right. It’s in a mug and just a proper brew. Plus reasonable prices too. My mum who died last year loved it here too and she was often hard to please!! I’m not sure how they get everything so right in such a laid back and informal way but they do

Fab place to base views of the runway at Hawarden Airport and arrival / departure of AirBus Beluga we had soup of the day Broccoli and Blue cheese with a huge bun/bap/cob/ soft roll / barn cake that was yummy yummy and hit the spot....

It really is a hidden jem... it feels a little surreal driving through the Aviation Park to get to Chocks Away! We were greeted by some lovely friendly staff and seated immediately. I ordered "The Breakfast" and a latte. IT WAS ABSOLUTELY DELICIOUS!! Certainly the best breakfast I've eaten out in many years. A great size portion and extremely good value for money.I will definitely be back to try out other menu choices and hopefully enjoy the outdoor seating area in the sunshine.

Very friendly staff who accommodated a group of 28 cyclists. All the food was served hot, in a timely manner and of good quality. It was also very good value for the money.

I came with my 4 year old and we were greeted at the door by a friendly member of staff and we chose to go outside so my little one could use the park, we ordered some food that came quickly and was delicious . afterwards we enjoyed one of there lovely chocolate brownies . The staff were so good with my little girl and offered us crayons and a picture to colour. Aswell as the friendly atmosphere we also got to see the beluga taking off too . will definitely be back :)

My partner and I attended and stood by the counter being ignored for a good few minutes, confused what the protocol was, so I picked up a menu and started to head to a table where I was stopped and advised that the staff would seat us. The lady who stopped us seemed quite annoyed about it, she carried on doing what she was doing behind the till as we waited as other diners turning up were seated by another staff members. Our server walked off elsewhere and we were approached by a different person asking if we had booked, pointed that the lady in the distance said she would seat us, she tutted and rolled her eyes at the lady we pointed at and walked off. Our initial server eventually returned, took us to a table and walked away despite us trying to ask where we order. They did not return - we left without trying to find out as we were treated as a hinderance and ignored since getting there. Also from the social media sites they seem to offer vegan options but saw nothing on the menu and our server walked away from us during our questions Great location and we saw a beluga take off, the venue itself is great but staff let it down.

We visited the diner as a family on recommendation.From the moment we walked in we was greeted by a waiter and showed us to our table, she was very polite and helpful. We came as a family, with our three children aged 9, 7 and 3. This is such a great place to come for all ages, the food was lovely with great choice and service was spot on. The kids loved being able to see the airport in the spacious outdoor seating area. Will definitely be coming again.

Sorry but this place has gone downhill since my last visit. We went to the ladies before going through to the dining room, to say the toilets were a let down is an understatement.Each cubicle had a toilet cleaning brush which were absolutely matted with toilet tissue and bodily function dirt, they should not be in that condition, they should be thrown away and replaced, they are cheap enough to be replaced weekly for goodness sake.The toilets themselves were not that clean either, behind the toilets were filthy dirty, that isn't just a day of dirt.Come on there is no excuse for dirt like that.we were shown through to the dining room at the back which had some interesting views of the kitchen area, there was one lady wearing gloves and prepping plates of food and handling food, with no change of gloves in between, this is wrong in so many ways.If food handlers use gloves for handling food, they must only wear a pair of gloves for a single task, not plating multi servings of food, this is where cross contamination can happen.The older gentleman who was cooking, was handling meat and no hand washing before touching it or in between, sorry but we had a birds eye view of the kitchen.Our lunch experience went from bad to worse, we were handed menus, and left for over 20 minutes. I walked through to the main serving counter and asked how did I order food, to be told, order here, it would have been nice to have been told that in the first instance.I then placed an order for the Chocs Away Signature burgers, to be told, sorry got no burgers!!So it's Wednesday, 1.45pm and no burgers, really? Maybe your staff should be told to let customers know when you have not got a particular food choice left.I respect that you get busy, but in the area we were in there were only 6 people seated.Sorry, it will be a long time before I come back, get your act together and get rid of those filthy germ ridden loo brushes.

Went for lunch here with our Granddaughter after 18 mnths apart. (10th Aug) Chocks Away was recommended by a friend and what a surprise we got.Easy to find and great parking, there are 3 dineing rooms with loads of space, an outside fully enclosed kids play park and ample outdoor tables for eating at.I would recommend booking ahead to be sure of a table but on our visit there where plenty of tables in and out.The staff and service which was quick, are excellent, the food hot plentiful and very reasonable, the cakes are lovely too. It felt covid safe, a few restrictions but very relaxed.We saw lots of small private planes 2 helicopters and luckily at 1 o'clock the famous Beluga landed with parts for airbus on the site.What a site that is and it's huge.We would go there again without hesitation.Thank you to all the staff especially a young Gentleman server who was so polite and very good at his job.

As aviation enthusiasts we regularly go down to Chocks Away. It is uniquely situated at the end of the Northern end of the runway where if you are lucky you can get up and close to a unique Airbus Beluga aircraft, particularly the new fleet of Beluga XL's, which with their painted eyes and mouth shaped cockpit are a favourite with children.The food at Chocks Away is excellent value and is served very quickly by attentive, cheerful and courteous staff. Like all restaurant/diners it has it's peak busy periods but the longest we have ever had to wait for our meal (usually full English breakfasts - to die for!) is 20 minutes. Normally, the wait is far less than that.The menu is comprehensive and great value for money catering for most tastes, with a takeaway option always available. Inside and outside seating is available with the meals being served at your table. At this time, Covid precuations are in place and observed providing a safe covid environment.We have no hesitation in recommending Chocks Away to anyone, whether it's for a quick bacon bap takeaway, a full sit-down meal or a deliciouus afternoon tea, all of which we have enjoyed and repeated many times. If you are a tourist to Wales, you are assured of a warm welcome at Chocks. Put it on your "to do" list.

My missus and I and our little ones went out the way to visit this diner as it had been recommended by a friend and turned out to be a lovely morning out! The kids were safe in the outside area (which is huge ) and backs on to a small airfield . The kids absolutely loved watching the planes coming and going.The food was lovely , we chose off the breakfast menu and weren’t disappointed . Everything was cooked the way we had requested.Quality product for a decent price. The Missus took some brownies and cupcakes home with us , couldn’t resist on way past the counter on way out . Definitely recommend this place to friends and family .

We prebooked for breakfast on a Sunday- we arrived and were seated in the back area which was pretty noisy. We asked to sit in the front area (which was a lot quieter) because one of our party members is deaf. We were rudely told that the front seating was for bookings only- even though we had booked! We explained the situation and were eventually allowed to move tables.45 minutes after ordering our food we had still not been served. We enquired how much longer we would be expected to wait as other customers had been and gone while we were still waiting- turns out our order had been forgotten! We were offered no apology for our missing food.When the food eventually arrived it was lovely- couldn’t fault it. It is just a shame that the service was so poor! It seemed as though no one was in control of the service and the situation was just ignored!

Visited the diner twice in the last week. Great place to watch the Beluga arriving and departing.Great staff, food is excellent but on the pricey sideYou have to go through a security barrier at the entrance to the aviation park, but you just give them your name and tell them you are going to the diner and they will open the barrier for you.

Decided to go for an afternoon bite to eat .Ordered fish and chips , peas and tartare sauce for myself , southern fried chicken burger and chips with homemade coleslaw for my other half .Food was fresh , hot , tasted amazing and portion size was a great size .Service was brilliant and food was delivered within 15 minutes max .Took a couple of cakes home to eat , which were delicious too .Great for kids too as it’s enclosed and contains a play area . Highly recommended ⭐️ ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Visited today for takeaway lunch of fish and chips, mushy peas and tartare sauce. Preordered and ready as requested. COVID rules strictly applied, all thoroughly professional. Meals were superb, hot and tasty. Watched Beluga airplane take off.

We usually have a weekend treat breakfast at Chocks and have done for sometime now ..... but feel the prices have increased significantly and items I,e. Mushrooms that traditionally would appear in most cafes as part of the breakfast deal are now 90p extra ☹️. The breakfast itself with the mushrooms cost £9.50 ..... hotel prices, not cafe prices. The food itself is tasty, fresh and we enjoy it. One member of current Chocks team has a very unpleasant attitude/manner towards customers which is very unfortunate as everyone else is very pleasant.

We always love going to chocks away dinner as we always get grate service from the front of house and the chefs are always friendly and polite to the breakfast are to die for and we also enjoy going for dinner and I can say it’s one of the best stake and ale pies I have ever tasted delicious also enjoy the fish and chips it like a baby wake in the plate also enjoy taking the paninis are to die for all in all I Recommend it 100 percent never go anywhere else for breakfast

3 generations from 2 to ? Catered for and very well too kids fish fingers are superb and portions are amazing daughter and I had the cajun chicken panini and chicken burger all freshly made on site non of this generalised boil in the bag muck u would get at a major chain best piece of advice I can give even it's just a quick pit stop u must try their egg custard it is pure heaven

Regular eaters at the restaurant and even ordered the takeaways during lockdown. But the last 2 meals have been really poor. Panini’s had little fillings, no side salad or coleslaw now and the chips were cheap frozen ones from Costco likely.Also never like to see the cook smoking outside as you walk in - always nice to know your food will have a stale smell of Marlboros. Just disappointed how bad it’s got since the change of ownership last year - you’d get better at a boots meal deal.

After having an amazing gluten free afternoon tea here last year, we thought we'd try it out again. Well what a difference from last time. My mum was so dissapointed, it was sloppy looking, dry scones, the icing on top had split & it looked like not a lot of effort had been made. The sandwiches were gorgeous.Sian was very helpful

have known about this place for a few years now , but eventually managed to get there yesterday. Staff are very friendly. Its Is a spotless place , and will appeal to anyone with an interest in avaition& its decorated on that theme throughout.I only had a pot of tea , a big pot it was though.With excellent viewing out onto the adjacent airfield, I could easily imagine spending a good few hours here , and with luck seeing one of the Belugas arrive or depart.I will return without doubt , recommended

I turned up for a Sunday morning breakfast and I was so shocked at the size of the cafe! Great big place. Menu was brill and lots of choice. Place was very clean and staff were lovely and pleasant. I had the big breakfast and I have to say the sausage was probably the best I’ve ever eaten. Great and good value. My partner had the cheese and onion panini with fries and it looked really tasty and filling was ample. With our drinks all this came to £15 pound!!!! Perfect. Thank you for a lovely Sunday morning!!!

We were looking for somewhere different andclose. Chocks away came up, never been before even though it is 1 mile down the road. Why haven't we been here before, good full English and the most tastiest burgar ever, friendly staff. Well worth a visit.

We visited chocks away diner today and had afternoon tea and the children had pasta with tomato sauce and chicken strips with smiley faces and beans. The staff were really friendly and helpful. Service was great. The afternoon tea was one of the best we have had and we have had a few!! Would definitely recommend and will be going again. We are so lucky to have such a wonderful place on our doorstep.

Amazing view of runway and lucky enough to see a Beluga take off. Several helicopters plenty of old planes to see. Now the cafe, lovely and clean, food extremely reasonable and a pot of tea for one very generous. My daughter has already been back with hubby for the amazing xl brekky. Came today after hearing about the new vegan additions to the menu. Upon arrival I was greeted by Emily who told me about the new additions to the menu and pointed out the special for the day - BBQ vegan jackfruit wrap. It did come with salad but I swapped to chips (I was told at the time the chips aren’t vegan as they are made in the same fryer as non-vegan items) I didn’t mind this. My partner ordered beans on toast with poached eggs, his eggs were cooked to perfection. He had a latte with his. And for me.... the wrap was delicious and I’m still thinking about it now. I also had a soy latte. During the visit I was also told about the large selection of vegan cakes that they are trialling - unfortunately they weren’t getting them until the next day. I suppose this means another trip???

Don’t get me wrong the food is still good but we were disappointed to see that the big breakfasts have gone up in price by £1.95 yet you now get less on it!!! No mushrooms and only one slice of toast. I get that prices need to increase sometimes but either put them up or take things off the breakfast, don’t do both. Sausages were lovely but I’d also suggest not describing them as ‘think’ sausages on the menu as they really aren’t (but like I said they weee really tasty). Wouldn’t stop us going back but probably won’t be back as often now.

Visiting here regularly, the food is varied and always delicious, staff are very helpful and the Diner is always clean and tidy - overall great value for money. There's ample parking and it's fantastic to see the Beluga, private aircraft, and helicopters land and take off. There's also a Childrens Play Area. An excellent place to visit!

Had read about this place in a local paper several years ago and made a mental note to visit.We were recently in the area and wanted a quick coffee so I finally got there!

I’ve been her many times, there are many options on the menu. From their brilliant breakfasts to the tasty tea cakes, and their tempting treats with a great cake and pastry selection the food here is delicious. Great outside space and plenty to see from private planes and Belugas flying into Airbus and also the Red Arrows on air show days. Can get busy there on popular days but still a great experience.

Breakfast and a cuppa for a fiver quick service tasty food and nice atmosphere. Can sometimes get busy so booking is an option. Large car park.

Visited on a Sunday, airfield deserted but this place buzzing with people. Great service from the staff, fast and nice food and the coffee was good too - will definitely be back and recommend and a good pit stop.

Excellent cooked breakfast, and the staff were really friendly. I’ll be going back with my family very soon.

Visited for lunch. Had been visiting chocks when in area for the last 3 years. Always had amazing food and service. Today my lunch was virtually inedible. The chips were like cardboard the chicken was bone dry but just about edible I pointed out to the waitress that the chips were not edible she said she would give me a fresh lot so I handed her my plate she returned with a large bowl of chips but no sign of the rest of my meal by this time I’d had enough so just eat a few chips and left. Didn’t recognise any of the staff don’t know if it’s under new management but the whole place looked tired and grubby Our waitress was pleasant enough Never thought I would be writing a negative review unless things improve won’t be visiting again

No mushrooms!!! Whats going on? Too early to compare to the previous management team. A mixture of New and Old staff on duty. Dirty cups on the inside, no need. Won't be rushing back.🤔

My first visit to chocks away diner at airbus. It’s everything that it’s said to be, great breakfast and well priced . Non greasy also. Great setting and would highly recommend. Delicious and with a coffee included at £6.95 it’s exceptional value. .

Unfriendly manageress , bland coffee , dirty tables , no cutlery in boxes Food was ok but lacking presentation for the price Not as good as when it first opened , won’t be bothering agsin

What a great place to go , located on the side of the runway within the Aerospace site, offers great food options plus depending on the day you get to see aircraft landing/taking off including the Police Helecoptor..Love this place

Excellent afternoon tea - great selection of sandwiches - scones with jam & cream , lemon cheesecake to die for & my favourite was their custard tart . All the staff were lovely but special mention to Sian for whom nothing is too much trouble . Few of my friends took cake home as there was more than plenty to eat .

Great simple honest food with views of the runway Treated to an array of old fighter jets on the approach to the cafe. Only downside to my burger was a slightly inadequate bun to burger ratio!

I am so glad I searched this place out...... otherwise I would of missed out on this gem of a place! I love the location (having always wanted to visit an aeroplane graveyard) the drive upto it with all its planes of the past was a thrill!

Love this place, food is excellent, staff are always polite, and a great view of the runway. We even had the police helicopter bow to us, made our afternoon.

Best breakfast available in the area - staff polite, well mannered and always remember what I want. Wish the customers were as polite !

I visited the diner yesterday with my husband and daughter. We fancied a cake and shot drink. We have been before but wanted to check out the diner under new management and I have to say we were very impressed. I didn’t think it could get better here but it was. The cakes were beautiful and freshly made. The staff were very attentive, polite and happy.

We came for lunch here last week and I cannot recommend this place enough! Excellent customer service, food was delicious, and over all a lovely friendly atmosphere. The kids loved seeing the planes taking off and landing with front row seats at the window table. Perfect for families and I will most definitely be back for the afternoon tea as it looked first class! Thank you to all the staff for a lovely day!

Most shocking breakfast I've had in years. Whether the place has passed hands (I don't no) bit that was awful. Only thing that tasted normal was the black pudding. Everything else has been bought in cheap. Surprise surprise there was a Scouser behind the counter looking in charge. Price gone down but minus mushrooms. I won't b back there till the main man is cooking or organising. An the girl that brought the tea over is lucky she isn't wearing it, slamming it down like we r an inconvenience. Sadly I will miss this place on a satday morning, but come on, I've recommended this place to many people. Not a happy customer today
