Chlachain Inn Restaurant in Highland

Just returned from a wonderful meal here. The seafood platter was amazing and the service from Chris and his team was great. Will return.

We kwamen laat in middag half oktober aan in Mallaig na een lange reis en besloten een hapje te eten in de Chlachain Inn, waar we ook logeerden. Er is een mooi menu met veel locale producten. We hebben heerlijk gegeten en gedronken.

I had scallops, my friend had steak pie. We also had cheesy chips and seasonal veg. It was all absolutely gorgeous. Veg cooked to perfection! Scallops light as a feather. Steak pie so tasty! Thank you so much for a gorgeous lunch at very reasonable prices. I'll be back once you put the fire on!

Terrific welcome and atmosphere! We were glad we’d booked a table, busy family atmosphere on an October Tuesday at 6pm. Great service, cosy table and a good choice of beers. Being fish lovers, we went for 4 fish starters, and enjoyed a range of fresh languistines, spicy king prawns, mackerel, salmon, herring. A range of fresh mains were going down well. Washed down with a chill bottle of Picpoul. Generous portions and no space for what looked lovely puddings! All the staff were great, but thank you to Chris for effortlessly making a great evening superb. Hope to see you soon!

Pre booked a table at Chlachain Inn as we had limited time in Mallaig arriving promptly on the "Hogwarts" train from Fort William! On arrival we were immediately shown to our table and offered menus which doesnt always happen these days! From the extensive main menu (there were also a number of interesting specials) we quickly ordered 2 x Cullen skink followed by a single platter of mixed cold delicacies (roll mops, smoked mackerel cheese, pickled egg, hot smoked salmon tohether with salad, bread, olives pickles etc plus a trio of smoked fish, all to share. The Cullen skink was the best Ive ever had and Ive had it many times! - just the right creamy consistency with plenty of content and taste. Plus it was a generous portion too. Would hghly recommend. Tbh the two plates of cold fish/delicacies was almost too much for 2 people and we were therefore unable to finish the very generous portion of delcious fresh bread that accompanied them, but again would highly recommend this combo if you are in the mood for some coastal favorites. We certainly enjoyed ours, particularly when complemented by a very pleasant chilled house wine....!!

The photos of the inn definitely didn’t do our room justice: it was spacious, very clean, comfy bed, lovely hot shower. Exactly what we needed after a day of road tripping. Dinner was excellent. I had fish and chips - well cooked and I loved the slightly minty mushy peas. For dessert, I had the sticky toffee pudding and wow wow wow! Delicious. So much sauce and it was ultra indulgent. We had a soft drink, a main and a dessert for just over £25 each so this place is certainly value for money. Breakfast was delicious - loved the extra crisp tatty scone. I also really liked the type of sausages in our baps! All members of staff were very friendly and welcoming. I recommend staying/eating here.

The food was superb! I had the pork and my husband had the tagliatelle, both of which were amazing. The apple slaw with the pork cut through the richness of the meat and added a nice sweet element to the dish. The broccolini and snow peas combined with the tomato sauce in the tagliatelle were a nice crunchy addition to the pasta. Service was brilliant and the vibes in general (music included!) made for a great dinner out! Would absolutely come back

Started my meal with a lovely bowl of potato leek soup. Had the seafood linguini special - soooo good and a G&T. Service was friendly, food was fresh and so nicely prepared and presented.

I don't comment and I've never left a review for any place I've eaten but while staying at arisaig last week we ate twice in the chlachan and my god the food was outstanding the venison was just perfect. Absolutely brilliant and the staff are great as well..

Really enjoyed supper last night! It is always good food at the Chlachain, but there are some new things on the menu... the Thai curry Risotto was excellent... I had it with smoked haddock - I had never imagined you could have smoked fish with a curry flavour before... but it was brilliant!

This pub is an amazing find. The food we had was the best food we experienced on our tour of Scotland. Great service and extremely tasty food. Definitely worth seeking out and going to.

We first visited the Chlachain Inn in 2021 and enjoyed the food so much that when we returned to Mallaig for a night, we felt we had to go back. And we were not disappointed. Being out of season, it was quieter (for a Friday evening) than when we last visited. However, it still had a great atmosphere. The waitress was friendly, attentive, and efficient. Having spent the afternoon on a train from Glasgow, we were really hungry, so we had flatbread to start. I then had breaded Haddock, which tasted fresh from the sea. My wife had salmon, which she commented was beautifully cooked and presented. Would recommend anyone visiting Mallaig to give this place a try.

In preparation for our trip on the famous Jacobite train from Fort William to Mallaig I wanted to get organised and plan out a lunch stop to ensure we had somewhere good to grab lunch as a family and be back at the train on time! A little research led me to The Chlachain Inn, and we were not disappointed. They have a children's menu which was good, and all food was freshly cooked to order. Myself and my husband shared a haggis fritter starter which was delicious (and very filling!) and then both had the battered haddock. I have to say it was one of the best fish and chips I've ever had. The fish was so fresh, and the batter so light and crispy, and the homemade tartar sauce lovely. We had booked a table in advance, and made a beeline for the inn straight off the train, and it filled up pretty quickly after we sat down, so if you're on the Jacobite I'd say book a table and head straight there. Due to us having a starter and main course we were there for a good 1hr 15 minutes, but still had time to pop to the little Harry Potter shop before heading back to the train.

Myself and my partner ate at this restaurant twice whilst at Mallaig. Food was exceptional both times and service was really good.

Food excellent as was the service, very quick. Only down side was ya can’t tip with ya card, if we ever return to west Scotland we will be going back for more. My husband said it was the best meal he has had, we eat out a lot!!!

We did not have food here, but we had some very good beers on a very large bar. This was a good stop and end of the day in Mallaig.

What a great find in Mallaig for lunch. We had light lunch of smoked salmon sandwiches, goat's cheese salad and onion rings which were all so fresh. Had I been hungrier I would have gone for the huge portion of very large languostines or mussels which I saw being served to others. Looked amazing! Great atmosphere and service too. Great Scottish Highland pub - no fancy decor but warm welcome and great fresh food.

Staying in the hotel next door we hadn’t originally expected to eat here but as our hotel had a closed restaurant we had to ‘eat out’. So glad that happened as the food we had both nights was fantastic both in tastiness and also value for money - the battered haddock was the best I’ve had for years and the homemade burger was equally good. Staff were welcoming and friendly, prices very good considering the quality of food and overall can’t recommend enough.
