Chinatown in New Forest

I wanted to try the New City as I have never been there before, and always use Chinatown opposite. I was disappointed with the food. The pancake rolls were greasy, the pork dish was packed out with vegetables, as was the hot and sour soup. On a positive note the crackers and the rice were good. I will carry on with Chinatown as the food is much better quality.

First time of trying this takeaway and definitely the last!!! The beef was so chewy it was not edible the fried chicken was really dry and the house special fried rice WELL !! The rice was wet it had a really sweet orangey yellow sauce over it with a few pieces of overcooked dry meat and the prawn toast tasted bad cannot express how disappointed we were with this takeaway

I love this absolute gem of a takeaway, we have been going for years and the food is consistently good. In fact it is utterly delicious AND you get free prawn crackers with your order. Once a year New City kindly gift their customers beautiful calendars. The staff are lovely <3. I know I’m guaranteed a warm welcome and friendly service and for this and the quality of the dishes, I go out of my way to buy food here. I recommend beef in black bean sauce and also the Schezuan veggies. Drooling thinking about those dishes.

I HAD been using new city semi regularly purely for the fact they deliver! but if your planning on using this place think again! considering there is a 10x better Chinese directly opposite there shop. the food was cold and not only was it flavourless, what you could taste was unfresh, cheap , poor quality poorly cooked food! after ringing them to complain I was offered a free potion of rice next time I used them! considering I had been using them semi regularly and the potion of rice they offered costs them pennies. I will be spreading the word not to use this place and I hope this review puts you off!!

A just ok meal, batter in chicken balls twice cooked, and very few bean sprouts with my Chinese chicken. A shame as we were hoping to use this place regularly.

After placing an order to be delivered was informed that the price of the meal had increased by £4.00s and their would be a delivery charge of £1.00 . the food was extremely salty and there was far too much curry powder in the special curry. Shall no longer be using New City again.

Really disappointing experience from somewhere well recommended. Bug in the food, late delivery, not hot. Call in an order at 6:10 last night, were told it would be 90 mins, lady was very friendly on the phone. Took a little over 2 hours to be delivered (about 8:15). Food wasn't that hot, presumably as it had been out for delivery for a while, but wouldn't call it cold. Other half found a small fly/bug in her duck (photo was taken on the side, but bug was seen in the tub), which she wasn't entirely sure was duck in plum sauce. My food was pretty good, although also could have been hotter. Just a disappointing experience overall, perhaps we caught them on a bad night!

Curry sauce too much pepper couldn't eat. The chips were dry and tasteless. The meat pancake rolls were so greasy and grizzle inside I couldn't eat. Noodles were to hard and dry to eat. Veg, prawns and meats were nice. Egg fried rice was dry and tasteless. My partner and I throw most of this food away they must not taste before they send it out. I will Never buy at this Chinese again only used as the one I mostly use jade peking is shut for a whole week. I hope and pray that my partner and I don't get tummy ache for the parts we did eat Be warned.

We normally go to China town but due to really fancying one in a Monday night when they are closed, we decided to give new city a go. It’s cheaper, actually really tasty and not as greasy as China town. Was really chuffed with it. Ribs were awesome, beef with ginger was tasty and really recommend shredded salt and pepper chicken. The rice was not greasy at all. Instead it was really fresh and fluffy which was really lovely. Will use again. Oh and another bonus.....deep fried bananas nom nom nom

We visited while on holiday in the area. After a four hour journey on the day we arrived, we stopped here to collect a takeaway. We presumed that as there were people queuing that it must be a good one. When we opened it up we were very disappointed. There was a very strong burnt smell when we opened the bag. We discovered black, burnt chicken chow mien. The chips were cold. The sweet and sour chicken balls tasted awful, a fatty fried chicken taste. The chicken chop suey was not like any we’d had before, with tomato chunks in it. I ordered prawn crackers and received two bags; one was free. If I’d have known we’d receive some free I wouldn’t have ordered any as we only needed one bag. The only nice part of the meal was the egg fried rice. As the chow mein, chips and sweet and sour chicken were inedible they were thrown away. After spending almost £30 we were left feeling disappointed and hungry.

Tofu dishes are so great and the chow mein is the best I’ve ever had! Always quick, always pick phone straight up and always hot!

Order a meal fo the first time this evening Excellent fresh food which seems to be a rarity nowadays with Chinese food. Good size portions. Looking forward to trying the other dishes. If your looking for a good chinese try this place!

Don't get the chance to use this place as much as I'd like to but whenever I think of a decent Chow Mein, this place is at the top of the list. Service is always great too.

Got a takeaway as was staying in a local cabin. It was quick, piping hot and delicious, try the salt and pepper ribs, beef in black bean and the crispy shredded beef, top Chinese, better than what we have in Surrey.

This take-away has surpassed it's competition opposite due to them providing much less greasy dishes. There is usually an average waiting time of 30mins. This is no problem though, especially when you are expecting to pick it up or have it delivered.

Brought a large takeaway for 5 people, mostly vegetable chow mein and egg fried rice. The chow main was the most salty we have ever tasted, felt awful and up all night. the rice was rubbery goodness knows how they managed to get it like that? the sweet and sour sauce tasted like ketchup. Very disappointed will not be going back there ever!! total waste of money most went in bin.

New City is by far the best Chinese around! Over Christmas, they were shut for a family holiday and we tried so many others from Ferndown -Bournemouth to satisfy our cravings but nothing lived up to them at all! They are so lovely and friendly, we are regulars (every week to so haha) and feel very welcomed by Li & the staff and the delivery drivers are all so pleasant too! Food is always spot on, good portions, good times for delivery, I cannot complain! The wun tuns are also BEAUT! I would just have a plate of them if I could ;) Keep it up guys ❤️

After reading some previous reviews, we were a little dubious about trying this Chinese takeaway, but we were so glad that we did! Our order for 12 people was delivered promptly and all the dishes were delicious, hot and fresh. A particular shout out to their Hong Kong style sweet and sour chicken slices and their chicken chow mein. Yum!

Have had Takeaways for several years from here and always been excellent but tonight all the dishes were disappointing - frequently have beef in black bean sauce but tonight it was watery, anaemia looking and tasteless. - looking at the previous reviews everyone says the same - please bring back the old recipes, we won't be returning until we hear of improvement - such a shame to get so many poor reviews - for us a disappointment on Christmas eve

We have been Chinatown customers for many years but sadly will not be returning as the standard has drastically gone down hill. Burnt food, incorrect orders, tasteless dishes etc. This is a massive shame as have been regulars for many years but will now have to elsewhere

We used to get a Takeaway from here regularly but have noticed recently that the food isn't as good as it once was. We generally order the same dishes and this time our favourites either had no flavour at all or tasted nothing like as good as we were used to and we were left feeling disappointed. I am guessing the new owners have changed all the recipes. We will look elsewhere for our Takeaways from now on.

Sadly this place seems to have really gone downhill this year. Looking back we gave it a rave review in January but can only concur with other reviewers that with the recent change of management and (so it appears) staff the quality and taste of the food is not a patch on what it used to be. We had a very disappointing meal and the sweet and sour sauce tasted of nothing other than vinegar and was a very strange brown colour.

Great takeaway. We prefer this to the other one opposite. The chicken balls, for one, are great quality with large chunks of chicken, the menu is as expected with set menus. Friendly service with freshly cooked meals. Nothing bad to say about the place, would recommend.

There veggie spring rolls are to die for , the quality goes with the quantity and at a very cheap price. Best spring rolls I ever had. Right opposite my work. Well recommended, worth every penny xxx

We have been regular customers for many years. We tend to stick to the same dishes that we like and they have always been consistently good- until recently. The recipes and quality were noticeably different. Thinking it was a one-off we had had another meal a couple of weeks later - same dishes but different again (not only different to usual but different to the last one!) On the basis of three strikes and you're out, we gave it one last try a couple of weeks ago. I'm sorry to say, we won't be returning. If there has been a change of ownership, the new owners should take notice of the feedback from what was a loyal customer base and improve the quality they are serving. We will be trying out the alternatives in town, hoping to find a better option. What a shame to have taken over a successful business and not be able to deliver the same great standards.

We used to use this takeaway but stopped when I was diagnosed Coeliac. My husband noticed a coupe of weeks ago when he collected his that they were advertising a new gluten free range. So we tried it and very glad we did. There are a number of different options but I'm prefer the plain stuff so had stir fry chicken and vegetables with vermicelli rice noodles. They take the gluten free stuff as a separate order, bag it separately and label the dishes as gluten free so no chance of cross contamination. Really lovely food and great to be able to join in again with the family takeaway eve.

I have been eating food from Chinatown for in excess of 13 years. Sometimes the food is really good, sometimes average. My meal last week however was horrible. Tepid, tasteless and a bit slimy. I am aware that most of the staff have changed after a change of management recently - this is reflected in the drop in the quality of the meal I experienced. Won't be eating food from there again until better chefs are emlpoyed,

We have used this chine takeaway for many years. It had received a hygiene rating of 1 but after changing hands we thought we give it ago. It was absolutely horrendous, no flavour, dry, over cooked on some. Definitely wouldn't recommend this to anyone!

Have been using Chinatown for over 14 years and always having good quality food was very disappointed this week. Firstly appeared to be all new staff and the food did not live up to the usual high standard. Shredded chicken was literally like wood shavings, pork balls over cooked and greasy... the list could go on. Should have looked before buying take away but only had a rating of 1 for hygiene. Won't be returning.

Found myself at a loose end with regards to food one evening a couple of weeks ago and decided to try the Chinatown, and was quickly reminded why I hadn't eaten there in over 8 years, the food was stodgy and tasteless and over all disappointing.

My wife and I recently tried this take away for the first time and were really pleased that we did.The food is excellent, freshly cooked and tasty and the service was fast and efficient.We will be going again.

All meals cooked as you wait, quick and fresh. Excellent value too. We travel here from Verwood, even though we do have a local Chinese, which we find very expensive, with smaller portions and no free prawn crackers!! Chinatown is a fab place to go. We have used this Chinese for takeaway for about 13 years and the quality and taste was always the same - the one we have just had was completely different and in some ways a bit of a let down. We have had our usual order written down on a menu for many years and the lemon chicken that we always ordered were chicken balls in batter with a sauce on the side but this time they were small slices of chicken covered in a lemon sauce ( I personally do not like the antiseptic taste of the lemon sauce so I was definitely not happy ) - the satay chicken and the crispy chilli beef was also completely different the chilli beef being not really as crispy or spicy as before and again another disappointment for me as it used to be the one dish I looked forward to - though my aunt and husband quite liked it. My mum said the prawn curry tasted a bit odd and that the normal chicken curry was not very hot either. All in all a bit of a disappointment - please change things back.

Having used this establishment for many years I was disappointed with my most recent purchase. The quality of food is not what it was possibly due to staff changes and poor ingredients.It's a shame as the food had always been of a consistently high quality for so long.

They certainly pack in the chefs here! At least 5, often more. Plenty of staff so I've never been delayed.It's a great Chinese. All the usual foods and they have specific recommendations if you want them to help you. Cooked quickly, served well, tasty and all good. Parking is easy enough just outside and they are popular - a good sign.Prices are standard for Chinese take away food.

Staying in the area we are always 'dubious' to try takeaway establishments but this one came recommended. I have never seen a Chinese takeaway like it!! its all open kitchen so you can see exactly what goes on and watch them cook your meal. The food is excellent and is more than generous in portion. Food prepared quickly. Always tasty. Set menus are excellent. Good value for money. Unlike many chinese restaurants they don't use lots of MSG.

Very good Chinese food. Each dish has been cooked carefully with unique flavours. Too many Chinese takeaways tend to deliver samey sauces which this manages to avoid. Need to pre order or be prepared to queue as it is very popular but that is purely due to the high standard of food they produce. I lived in China for a year and generally do not eat Chinese in Britain but this has to be an exception.

Service always friendly and prompt and food good. Best to get someone riding shotgun with you as parking is a a problem so you might need to stay in the car on double yellows whilst your passenger dives in to pick it up.

The food is excellent and it is advisable to telephone your order through as they are busy 99% of the time and there is always a wait. Parking near the takeaway is very restricted so beware, that's how popular it is. Free Prawn Crackers with every order.

While on holiday recently we had a couple of takeaways from this excellent takeaway.The meals on both occasions were well cooked and very tasty.The place was very busy on both occasions but we only waited 10-15 minutes for our order due to there being at least 10 people working in the kitchen.I look forward to my next meal from here when next on holiday.

We have had good food here in the past but our takeaway on Friday night was awful. The satay was dry, tough and tasteless and the peanut sauce bland. The chicken and cashew tasted processed and the vegetables uninspiring. All of the food had a greasy taste The only redeeming feature was the speed it was prepared - but then perhaps that why it was so poor? We will probably not return and stick to the excellent Indian restaurants locally who do takeaway

We love this Chinese and are frequent visitors. Excellent food and value, friendly staff and all made to order. No need to phone ahead, the meals only take a short while to make so we always order in person.

great Chinese food prepared in an open kitchen so you can see you meal being cooked - lots of menu choice. It can be very busy on Friday and Saturday evenings, so phone bookings are a great idea. Very popular - highly recommended !

Had a takeout saturday just gone and not too sure about the quality. i personally think its gone downhill a bit over the last few months.It may be me but i think some of the dishes are greasier/fattier than usual. The usual favourites are still very good chow mein etc but a few other dishes slightly down on quality. we have used chinatown for 7 years now..please dont go downhill.

Best takeaway around by far. Cheap, always hot and they never get the order wrong. Would highly recommend.
