Some of the reviews on here seem a little unfair. We have been ordering from China Palace for 34 years, since 1990 (I live opposite) and have never seen or heard any bad reports about the place, only very good recommendations. Everything we have ordered, quite a wide range of dishes, has been spot on. The food is tasteful, piping hot and huge portions and the place is very clean. I have however, noticed that since the previous owners have changed hands, it doesn't get mad busy like it once did. The previous staff like Sue (many years ago) and Peng, pre pandemic, were very quick, jovial and made the place what it was. Since then, the staff has fluctuated some-what and this does have a hand in un-nerving some people. You cannot expect food to taste EXACTLY the same when made by two different people, no matter how rigid you stick to a recipe and if you do, you are being unrealistic. I have noticed that the food is slightly different in the last 4 years. It is a little disappointing when you've been used to what you like but it isn't that much different that it would stop me going altogether. People are entitled to their opinion but its worth speaking with management to try to work through a problem than rocking the whole boat at a tough time in the food industry when businesses are struggling to train new chefs and staff and keep up a valuable reputation in a long established place as this (50 odd years). I haven't been going to takeaways very much for my own reasons but I'm glad I chose to ignore the off putting bad reviews on here tonight and just try it for myself, because as always, though a little different, not much, the food tasted good, was piping hot and generous portions enough to feed 3 and I could have never ordered from here again and missed out. If you had a business, wouldn't you rather have folk speak directly to you and give you the chance to correct things than putting you out of business completely. Once a reputation is put on shaky ground or ruined .... It's very hard or unlikely to recover. It costs nothing to be fair and kind and goes a long way to keeping communities thriving.

As a Chinese, this is the first time I have eaten something so disgusting, and it was made by my own people.

Gone down hill dramatically- not just incorrect order but fatty, slimy, lack of flavour (more like gravy) and generally poor quality - I’d give it a miss - very disappointing

Fast online order and very nice food. Hot and Sour soup had very spicy chillis Wow!! Recommended. PS: This Chinese must be over 40 years old, and it's still making great Chinese food.

Food is ok here, but when ordering online and going to payment, there is an extra 50 pence service charge added on. I had already been charged for the food and charged for the delivery, so as this seems to be an extra 50 pence added on for absolutely no reason, I didn't go through with the payment and ordered from somewhere else. Some people may think this is a bit daft for the sake of 50p, but for me it's the principle of it and with no explanation as to why I have to pay extra when I'm already paying for the food and the delivery, I won't be ordering from here again. There are other places that offer free delivery over a certain amount and certainly don't charge you extra for no reason whatsoever

We've been ordering for a few years and I agree with others who've said 'new low' on here. "Dim sum combination" - I expected this to be dim sum, but no. It's everything but. Not terrible tasting things but just not what I wanted. The satay sauce is also not a satay sauce. I don't know what it was. Some watery, red liquid that didn't taste like anything at all, but definitely not peanut sauce. Also wasn't hot. In fact, the spring roll in the "dim sum combination" was hotter. The category "vegetable dishes" is a complete misnomer. The box was full of white onion and a few strips of pepper with the tofu, but not what you expect when you read vegetable dishes. Just a shame that you can't get a vegetarian dish with vegetables. The rice was nice and the tofu was ok but again, the completely wrong sauce and it didn't taste like anything at all. China Palace, you need to improve your meals!!

Order from this place for years, tonight an item was missed,I rang and was told it will be delivered ,,nothing came, I rang back told drivers collected but is stuck in traffic,,I live just off the road from the takeaway ,less than 1/4 mile away,and the road was clear,I can walk to the takeaway in under 4 mins by car takes under 1 min ,but not tonight as I have severe sciatic nerve pain and cannot walk.Its so annoying when youre lied to by a place youve ordered from for years. so dissapointed ,If i could have walked up I would have.Told to ask for item next time. spent £27 and had to share another meal.

Delicious Salt and Pepper £10 box, well worth the money.

I ordered online and picked up my meal on Saturday evening (13th Jan) The meal was totally inedible , this is the second time it’s happened . Used to be the best Chinese in Prestwich but they won’t get a third opportunity. I will never go back . Duck was so burnt it couldn’t be eaten at all . Ver disappointed

Great food and great service. I’ve been using this place for years and it never lets me down. Recommend the salt and pepper chips, the mushroom foo yung and the sweet and sour king prawn.

This used to be fantastic but it's really so poor, I was very unhappy with the food,very,very disappointed.

Terrible Service. Gave us egg fried rice instead of chips and when we called them they said they realised after they had sent it out for delivery and next time we order we would get free chips. We refused as one of us have an egg allergy and asked them to send the chips out and it took over an hour to get here. By this point rest of the food was cold and the person on the phone was incredibly rude about the situation

Used to go here regularly years back when I lived in Prestwich.and it was great, moved further away and now I'm more local again although in Radcliffe. Tried a number of Chinese takeouts in my area and none beat China Palace. Although seems management/chefs have changed and the food is different it is still great and always fresh!

Absolutely disgusting 🫣 Salt and pepper ribs cooked until they are rubber.. Sweet and sour chicken tasted like cheap chicken bites..sweet and sour sauce bland Chips standard Fried rice tasteless 1 star for curry sauce. Waste of money

Called last evening for a takeaway and told rice or chips with a main meal is extra but that she would charge me half price? The food was hot but not a patch to my last visit some years back. WASNT WORTH THE LONG BIKE RIDE FROM MIDDLETON. It had a funny aroma that we both couldent get our heads around. Big enough portions for two but I will give it a miss from now on. Shame as it was the best in Manchester years ago. There was no bamboo shoots or chestnuts in the special fried rice at all !!

This is not the same establishment as when I last visited, it’s changed chef I’m sure. Food didn’t blow us away like it used to. Rice or chips with main courses are extra. Wasn’t worth the money. Hot& sour soup was ok till I chewed on a chilli then it burnt my tongue ..same with my wife! No bamboo shoots or chestnuts in the special fried rice though served in 6.5 minuits. Shop was empty so alarm bells there then…it used to be full to busting last time the others had it. The food overall didn’t have a good aroma so we binned the other half instead of saving for another meal. Should have cost a lot less than I paid even with complementary prawn crackers which we don’t do. This is an honest review as promised to the girl who served me

Omg terrible food ribs so dry couldn't eat them chips dried up been there all day curry gluppy rice sticky king prawns in black beans sauce had ti throw away use to be really good not any more will never waste money here again

been using this place for a number of years believing this to be a place safe for vegetarian today I saw them cook meat sausage in the same fryer with the chips and a mean cooked and mixed in with the chips and same oil. for me this is a big NO so for all you vegetarian take note

My son normally collects but this time opted for delivery. Bang on time and great food. It’s been here for many years. Courteous staff which always helps

Food is always good but can't believe they still only take cash. I went in recently and was told I couldn't place my order until I'd got cash from the cash point. It was out of order and I had to find another. When I went back the girl serving me was really rude when I put a pound short on the counter. It was a genuine mistake which I rectified. Not great customer service.

there was a fly in my rice. This was definitely a fly and NOT burned rice! I checked when I seen it in my food, if you zoom into one of the images you can see the wing. This it gross as I’d already eaten some of the food, would never eat here again, makes me think twice about eating out all together.

Tried once as new to the area, very average really. Wouln't hurry back.

I am a fairly new customer to China palace angmf the first couple of times the good was amazing, so last weekend I ordered food for my son and his friends and within a couple of hours my son was feeling unwell and he ended up being sick with food poisoning. Will never use China palace again and we have now been put off Chinese food, feeling very disappointed.

I have tried a chicken noodles .Nothing special.

The China Palace is the one and only place that I miss in prestwich. I only wish they delivered to Hinckley in Leicester where I have now lived for 16 years. Every time I come back to visit my family the first thing I did was go to the China Palace. 🇨🇳 Everything is amazing especially the onions 🌰 in the curry. I wish I could get hold of some for 🏡 home. Going back tomorrow , so until next time !!!! Already thinking about it. !!! The best thing they have ever done is the delivery service so more none drivers like me can enjoy it. I'LL BE BACK. !!!!!

Garbage - Salt & Pepper spare ribs were inedible - obviously recooked and tough as old boots - sweet and sour chicken - sickly sweet and where on earth do you get chicken THAT soft …… Special Chow Mien - edible Fried Rice - OK - tasteless but OK Looks to me that there isn’t too much in the way of fresh cooking going on -just rehashed garbage This is such a shame - this WAS the place (a few years back) to go for sensational Chinese Food

We now religiously order our Chinese from here, it is absolutely the best I have ever had! Everything is always spot on every time, food is hot and delicious and the service is so quick! I could not recommend this place more! Ordered nearly 10 times from there now and same great result every time, I am yet to be disappointed. We tried out so many others in the area but I am so glad I was recommended this one - it is hard to find such consistency!

What a disappointment. After so.many years of good food, it is inedible and cold. China Palace Special duck had the most awful smell like bad breath, both Singapore Vermicelli and Shar Sui rice are now bland in flavour strange in colour, OK ribs tasted like a super-pungent dose of HP sauce, and the Prawn & Squid in chili garlic sauce consisted of 3 prawns, no squid, but about 5 pieces of octopus tentacles completely overcooked, rubbery and inedible. We thad to throw away most of the food and needless to say, we will not be going back.

I did give China Palace 5 stars the last time I reviewed it, but this place has plummeted to a dreary new low a few years on. I remember a time when your Chinese takeaway dish came with an assortment (well, at least two or four) of vegetables like broccoli, bamboo shoots, green/red peppers, water chestnuts, baby sweetcorn, pak choi, beansprouts, mushrooms, carrot, onions and even cucumber. Not at China Palace. They should rename the items on their menu "Onions with..." because large pieces of onion make up half of every dish! I very recently ordered King Prawns with Ginger and Spring Onions & fried rice. What I received was ridiculous. Fair enough, the King Prawns were cooked to perfection. Succulent and sweet without a hint of being overcooked The remainder of the dish was, well frankly, a joke. It consisted of thickly sliced ginger pieces, one (count 'em) spring onion and onions. Lots and lots of white onions (see attached pic) Oh, and the sauce wasn't particularly flavourful either. The fried rice? Tasteless, sticky and overcooked. All this for over £8...

Absolutely amazing food coming from Nottingham to stay with family this is a must every time I go for chicken chow main,rice chips bbq ribs and sweet n sour chicken balls partner always go for Holland meat pie chips and gravy can not go Whitefield without having this here even gey food.deom here and take it back to Nottingham x would highly recommend this place it's the best ever

Before the new owners took over I was a regular for over 10 years and after a bad experience I thought I would try again. The fillet steak Cantonese I would not feed to a dog and the shezshuan chicken was like glue. Please I hope this review stops someone considering ordering from there it is the worst Chinese in manchester!

Well I knew that takeaways would be busy New Year’s Eve so placed our order at 7.15pm and told will be about an hour or so which we expected as wanted to eat around 830pm so gave plenty of time. By 920pm we rang to be told we were the next one to be delivered to. Really annoyed by 10pm as we were about to eat the furniture and rang again to be told he had already left with our order We are no more than 10 minutes away but didn’t turn up until 1035pm. Entire lot went in the bin. Cold and tasteless couldn’t eat any of it even the starter. Congealed and disgusting. Lesson learned. Stick with what I know

Curried Prawns are the best you will ever have from anywhere good service and great food

Waited two and a half hours for delivery although it was New Year’s Eve that is still ridiculous. When food finally did arrive it was cold and flavourless. Such a shame because this has been raves about by so many people. Won’t be ordering from her again.

Service is always good, quick and efficient. Most dishes are good and reliable from one visit to the next. There are a couple Im not as keen on. However on the whole a decent chinese take away. Been using them on & off for over 30 years.

It WAS the best Yeung Chow fried rice and spare ribs in Prestwich, sadly gone downhill and will not use again! AWFUL meal!

Used to be a regular until the food went downhill but thought I would give them another go. Crispy chilli beef was like rubber, sweet and sour chicken chewy, the Kung pow chicken flavourless in a watery tasteless sauce and the chips soggy and undercooked. Never again!

This place used to serve the best Young Chow Fried Rice and Salt n Pepper Ribs in Prestwich, not any more! Last meal I bought from here was awful, tasteless rice dish and dry inedible ribs, ended feeding the bin with it. Will not be back again after being a customer for many years!

I've been eating from here since the 80's. I no longer live in the immediate area but still travel the half an hour it takes to get there, as it's most certainly the best chinese takeaway :-)

I found this chippy to be totaly tasteless. I wouldn't recommend it . Go to charley an Anne on moss Lane Whitefield. A far better Chinese chipy.

Best in the area but they don't offer a delivery options, they didn't pass on the vat reduction and instead increased their prices.

First time visiting for a takeaway tonight, although family rave about this place! We phoned ahead for an order, and everything was ready on time to be picked up - they even threw in some free prawn crackers and ribs! Tasty hot food, well cooked. Friendly service too. Also very impressed with COVID measures - hand sanitiser, plastic screens, staff in masks. Will definitely visit again when in the area!

First Chinese takeaway for 5 months and it did not disappoint! Special Chow Mein was great, chips were excellent, portions were really big, staff were helpful, highly recommended.

Prawn crackers ok. Good snap and not greasy. Prawn toast almost exact opposite. Spare ribs small and swimming in sauce. Beef and broccoli and Special crispy noodles were ok but lacked something.

I just went in asked for chips rice curry and sausage. The woman says it'll be a few minutes for chips. She put new chips in the fryer. Whilst I'm waiting I order some wings too. She doesn't tip any of the new chips in the non fryer part and fills the tray with the grim brown chips that have been there for the fifteen minutes I've been stood in the shop. Proper cheeky. Make me wait to watch you cook chips I'm not having. Ta

Never go here on New Year’s Day, taking orders over the phone while customers are waiting hours on end just to get served, walked out in the end, joke of a place, all I wanted was chips curry and rice, if they stopped taking orders over the phone then they might of been able to keep up.

We went along to this chippy which we have been to many times. We had special fried rice and salt and pepper spareribs. the rice was of good quality but this is the second time now I’ve had salt and pepper spareribs and they are completely cremated within the Deep fat Friar. They are Truly inedible. I ordered them last month for my son and they were exactly the same. I thought just maybe the chef was having a bad night but clearly this is the standard you can expect from China Palace went Ordering Salt and pepper spareribs. will not be going back to this Chinese takeaway anymore sadly

We ordered takeaway again on Sat evening crispy chicken pieces in OK sauce, shrimp with mixed veg and I ha ve to say everytime I order prawns or shrimp the poo sacks are always left in when they are meant to be taken out anditmade me feel sick 🤮

Consistent great quality, never had a bad dish

Really disappointed the 2nd time we have had this place the 1st time was lovely but got ot tonight I had plastic/glass in my chips that I bit into cutting my tongue, I am pregnant so I'm not at all impressed. The food just wasnt nice the chicken fried rice was the only nice thing out of everything. Will definitely stick to my usual Chinese

I haven't been here for a while, but always loved their Veg Chow Mein. Stopped to get one tonight, it was awful. So much garlic, flavour totally different, thick sauce, no sesame oil, no mushrooms - either type that they used to have, no chinese leaves, no onion, tonnes of bamboo shoots, very very salty it's all I could taste, full of MSG (now sneezing non stop), need I go on? This place has gone way downhill., won't be going again.

Appalling food ! Dim sum was very bland and flavourless,'Salt and Pepper' chicken an absolute joke - basically flavorless chicken nuggets,waste of money and won't be going again I'm afraid

This place has just won the best Chinese take-away in Manchester award...... well if it hasn't, it should have. What an array of different veg, quality meat and a rich sauce. I cannot recommend this place enough, well worth going out of you way to get a quality meal. You will not be disappointed.
