China Garden in Gravesham

So glad that China Garden is back open. Food is as fantastic as ever and the service is impeccable. My "go to" Chinese restaurant in Kent, by far....

I use to order Chinese takeout from places right next to me until they’ve all started to go down hill so I done my research for the best Chinese around & wow am I glad I did! Everything we ordered was absolutely spectacular, food was cooked to perfection! The food is of such great quality & fresh! Nowa days with the cost of living most restaurants are going for the cheaper option I.e meat! China garden are most definitely buying the top tier quality meat & it shows! Absolutely stunning! You can tell their business means everything to them! Great customer service, stunning restaurant and the FOOD, wow! I can assure you I won’t ever be going anywhere else! Highly recommended

On a short visit to England and wanted a Chinese takeaway before i returned to Denmark. Absolutely the best Chinese I've had in years, thank you!. Super food and super service 👍.

Nice food; not the cheapest Chinese in town, though!

First time ordering a takeaway there, won't be going back. Very first impression when i saw my order was 'where is the rest of it'?Portions are extremely small for the money and did not taste good.

WOW what a Chinese .collected a takeaway on Friday . Unfortunately one item was missing , called CG and within 15mins it was delivered to our door .Food was amazing as always 15 out 10 if possible . We love it here and takeaway service is the best . THANKS

We had called the day before to book a table for 8, they had informed us that they were having a big party but would try and accommodate us. The next day, they gave us a courtesy call and said they had accommodated us at a better table for the size of our group. When we got there they were sooooooooo friendly and patient (considering we have 4 young children with us). The food was very delicious and they waited us on very attentively. We had a great time and we would definitely be back for another occasion as we were treated very kindly.

Amazing restaurant and the best takeaway in Gravesend. Despite them being very busy as it was New Year’s Eve the food was still hot and so tasty, thank you to all at China Garden x

Lovely Chinese in Gravesend, friendly staff and great food!

Very good food, but service can be slow at peak times, especially when they are very busy with takeaways.

Waitress was a bit abrupt and had to wait a bit for the main but it was good. Eventually got the bill and ended up paying at the counter.

Accommodating some changes we wanted made to the order, after phoning serval Chinese restaurants that couldn’t…. This place pulled through!!! The food was here when they said it would be. I had the choice of cash or card payment. Only down full is that is was sooo tasty I didn’t leave myself anything seconds! 100% order again! Thank you for making our evenings as we was celebrating 😊

Best Chinese ever. Eating in is always great and takeaway is just as good. Very busy at the weekends though. Food is the best I've tried. Service is great. Very friendly staff.

Man, this place was a major letdown. The drinks were just okay, nothing to brag about. But the food? Oh boy, it was a disaster. They must have a salt factory in the kitchen, 'cause everything was like a salt bomb waiting to explode. Plus, the portions were like something out of a toddler's menu, and they charged us like we were dining at a fancy place. And guess what? I had the honor of discovering a hair in one of my dishes. Yuck! I mean, come on! That's just plain nasty. Save your money and your taste buds, folks, and steer clear of this place.

Been coming here for a few years now and service/food is excellent. Nothing too much trouble and no pressure in time taken to eat. Yes there are cheaper places but you get what you pay for.

Lovely food a nice place to eat.

Very tasty food from the lunchtime set menu. Service wasn't the speediest, but an inspector was there when we arrived, so I expect the staff were a bit distracted. Be aware that the toilets are up a flight of stairs, so if you have mobility issues then this might be a problem.

Hands down the best Chinese food in Gravesend, I wouldn't eat from anywhere else and the staff there are sooo helpful, polite and accomodating it's always a pleasure wether you dine in or out. Thanks CG!

take away is very nice you get lots of it too , be wary weekends they want a minimum order (£45 when we had it delivered ) . so has to be for special treat. they cater for gluten free too but there is no menu for this

Dont bother food is not all that too expensive I won't be eating again from here again I 'll order from somewhere else

Have been a few times but now find that they have no disabled access. The facilities are up a long flight of steep stairs. For regular users the food and service is great.Always

This is without doubt the best Chinese in Gravesend. I used to get Chinese delivered by Just Eat but when the quality of food went down I decided to drive into town to collect from China Garden. We have eaten as a family here for many years so it’s work the 30 min round trip to collect. It’s still piping hot upon getting home which is great! When we go to eat or collect the guys there are all really friendly and it has a great atmosphere!

Last time we will order from here! Food was delivered in 10 minutes prawn balls batter uncooked,pork balls reheated god knows how many times special chow main it was just plain noodles,egg fried rice bland as anything,crispy chilli beef refried, omelette like rubber!! Terrible response from restaurant just a reluctant sorry,and almost how dare i complain! I woul definitely reconsider ordering from here!

A gastro oasis with not a thing to fault. Staff were extremely good and the food is faultless. Freshly cooked and just bursting with flavours.

How bad can it get in a restuarant, go to China Garden to find out! We arrived at 645 pm on a Thursday - so not very busy - there were only two other groups of diners in when we arrived. We ordered the set menu - so you would think it would be fairly slick - but no. The initail start arrived, well presented but not too much and pretty cold, service was pretty poor, with no apparent control or management. Starter was one spring roll, one rib, small amount of seaweed and a piece of sesame prawn toast. The next course was peking duck pancakes and this is where is really got bizzar! So the duck arrived - it loocked a good helping - the pancakes also arrived - both were just about warm. The plum sauce and onion and cucumber did not arrive - we picked at the duck - as you would while we waited for the rest to start making the pancakes. Around 10-15 minutes later - a waitress bustled up and told us we had been given the wrong helping - for 4 and not 2 and she then proceeded to remove it from our table - no doubt to re-heat and serve to someone else - despiute the fact we had been picking at it with our fingers - GROSS! We then waited for around another 10-15 minutes for our portion to arrive - agaiun luke warm. To be fair a reasonable portion size. At this point we are around 45-50 minutes into our meal and only at the 2nd course. We then waited and waited to be served. And waited some more. We asked where our meals were and we told they were on their way. Meranwhile multiple take away meals had gone out - so they clearly prioritise takeaway over sit down dinerres - who they obviously think are a captive market! So after an hour and 20 minutes we got up and walked out. The final insult - we we said we would pay they charges us for two mixed staters - which actaully had another dish as opposed to the starter on the set menu, and a stater helping of mussels. The price - £35!! Awful service and to add insult to injury we were ripped off as well. Please do yourself a favour do not go to China Garden.

Beware of the no parking outside the front. Not one but three traffic attendants pounced. A table was available and service was very quick. Food as per the order and tasty. Good to see they were also busy which as always is a good sign. Staying at the manor hotel nearby they recommended them. Can not understand why in England you have to order rice etc separately.

First time eating here. Very small table to accommodate food and drinks on it for four people. Some of the food item could not be placed on plate warmer so they were cold.

The interior was alright, as was the service. However, the pricing was very high for what I'd expect and the food was fairly average, so it was poor value, particularly for a set menu. Plus there were added charges for things I wouldn't expect to be charged for, which really took the Mickey! Definitely won't be coming here again.

Best Chinese to eat in or takeaway in Gravesend! We've lived here for a over a year and tried most others, but this one is the best by miles!!

The food was lovely and way better than expected. The portion sizes were great and the menu is varied which is great. It’s only a small restaurant but it wasn’t very busy so we got some privacy on our date night out. The service was really efficient - although not the friendliest from one of the servers - and we really enjoyed our evening

Shameful customer service, food isnt much better, over 2 hours for order to arrive, parts of order missing, waste of time and money, Never again..

We have tried many Chinese takeaways in Gravesend, and China Garden are nearly double the price, but the quality of the food is 3 times that. Exceptional quality.

Booked a table and pre-warned we could only have table for 2 hours due to other bookings. Arrived to be given table next to JustEat picking station and bar so lots of noise of generally poor table. I asked for a different table but very clear other tables were for locals / regulars. Had starter which was very nice and duck which was nice. Crispy lamb had been incinerated so pretty poor. As we ordered lamb / duck was told we had to order our main to ensure there was enough time for us to eat our main. We didn’t know what we wanted and declined to order for the sake it. By the time we had finished our duck we still had an hour at the table but the attitude of the staff was so poor that we chose to just pay for what we had and left. First time here in years and made it very clear we won’t be back again simply due to the poor way we had been treated which felt very much as we weren’t regulars so we were treated badly

The staff were very accommodating and squeezed us in very last minute on a busy Saturday night! Food was very good, no complaints and always friendly faces. We will visit again. Its a shame they don't deliver to greenhithe or we would eat from here more often.

Visited China Garden with my partner and 3 kids. It’s been a while since we have visited due to lockdown, and what a great evening it was. Food and service was excellent as always and the covid measures in place are superb.You are asked to sanitise your hands on entering, there are no menus available, this is done via using your mobile phone, there are dividers in between each table, and we were advised by the owner that he has reduced the amount of tables in the restaurant to allow distancing.We felt extremely safe here, and enjoyed the 3 course meal. As we have 3 kids, we chose the set menu for 4 ppl and were served an additional complimentary dish! Excellent value and everything tasted superb! We will be visiting again soon. I have been coming here a long time and thought I’d leave a review. The owners are very welcoming, the food is amazing, it’s clean. It’s a hidden gem. The China garden mixed starter is great and the fillet steak Cantonese style is a favourite too. There is parking close by. I also like CG because they don’t seem to use much MSG in the food.

An excellent chinese restaurant. Our crispy Mongolian Lamb, chicken in yellow bean sauce with cashew nuts, crispy beef, Singapore Noodles and seaweed were all excellent. My only minor criticism was that the birds nest that the crispy beef was served in tasted slighly soapy - that said, the meal was excellent value and I would definitely recommend this restaurant and come back.

This restaurant is one of the best Chinese restaurants that I have ever been in. The staff could not have been more friendly or helpful. The food was excellent and the dishes arrived without much of a wait in between. Thoroughly recommended.

Needing a new Chinese takeaway and hearing rave reviews about this place it was top of my list to try. Entered the shop and about three tables were occupied, the man was writing on receipts and stapling them to takeaway orders, it was like we were ghosts and no one had noticed we had walked in although both staff members looked us dead in the eye but failed to acknowledge we were there. The server came but answered the phone and again we were completely blacked where the point my partner asked-shall we just leave? we waited a bit longer-no apology for being completely blanked and we ordered out takaway. Meal size was disappointing. I usually get two servings out of my Chinese but from here it was gone in one go the prawns in the prawn rice were extremely dry and tough I ended up picking them out. It was tastier than the Chinese I used to go to but I will not be returning due to overpriced small portions and very rude staff.

terrible very stale meat with chow mein. dumplings undercooked and not very edible, rice was dry as the crackers. this place is slipping used to be amazing but not won't be ordering from them or visiting again.

We ate lunch at this restaurant on Easter Monday 2019. Living in Rochester and Gillingham, we get to Gravesend a couple of times a year if that. I had a hankering for a Chinese meal (always on a mission to the find the best in all sorts of things) and had recently heard about another Chinese restaurant with good reviews in Chatham, so we were planning to go there on the way home. But we passed this on the way to the car and decided to give it a go instead - sort of tick it off our list. I make a first judgement on whether or not I want to go in somewhere on the outside appearance of a place, like most people I should imagine (the first obstacle to overcome on my 'hepatitis gauge') and they had shiny clean windows and it looked very neat, so in we went. It was noon and they had just opened for the day. We were the only customers at that time (in fact, for the whole time, but we weren't there very long). We were met by a smart, friendly lady as we walked through the door and were seated. I was struck by how well-maintained and clean the restaurant was. The whole process from being seated to being served was slick. The food was very lovely indeed - I want to wax lyrical about things like the Chinese mixed veg and the rice, and even the English tea I had two cups of, but it was ALL very delicious and faultless - and the staff were polite and professionally respectful at all times - which to some might be construed as a little stand-offish, but having worked in the hospitality business myself, I appreciated this and saw it for what it was. The entire experience was delightful. We were even given hot towels when we had finished, and only then, once they'd fulfilled our expectation, did they relax a little and chat. I left feeling like I'd had something of dinner in the finest restaurant around, instead of a quick lunch on the way home. The lady told us that they have a customer who travels from Rochester whenever she fancies a takeaway and I can certainly believe that.

Love this restaurant. Definitely my favourite of all the Chinese places in Gravesend. The food is delicious and the staff are so kind and helpful.

Unfortunately the food was pricy and a very small portion. My husband got satay chicken which was extremely spicy with no warning on the menu even though other spicy dishes had a warning. Sweet and sour was sickly sweet and the chicken was dry. Both our meals came Luke warm. Won't be returning.

I have ordered and collected so many times from China Garden earlier where my order value was £30 or more. Tonight when I ordered for less than £15 they did not give the prawn cracker (otherwise complementary) and blatantly said that it is for order value above £15??!! How terrible and cheap service I have to say...wasnt expecting this...

Take away or eat in, been going here as a couple or with our family for years. Decent service and tasty food, can sometimes wait a while for delivery though.

This is an attractive and comfortable restaurant, with a good ambience and the seating not too close together. There is no parking outside, but a large public car park is just around the corner and free after 6pm. Also, be aware that the toilets are up a considerable flight of stairs so it might not be suited to those with mobility difficulties.

Been going to China garden for over 25 years, never had a bad meal the staff a are very friendly we have seen there kid grow up and help run the restaurant

My wife and I visited for our anniversary and I must say we were not disappointed! All the staff are so friendly, welcoming and nothing is never too much trouble! On every occasion we have visited the food has always been very good! The best Chinese in Gravesend by far!

Haven't visited this restaurant for a few years we were going to the theatre after the meal. Selected set menu B a selection plate of starters, duck pancakes and prawn sweet and sour, chicken Black bean sauce and vegetables and egg fried rice all the dishes were hot and delicious and all for 20 pounds a head. They were letting us have a break from the duck pancakes before our mains til I mentioned we were going to the theatre and we were in a hurry. The mains and the bill arrived promptly such wonderful customer service. I would recommend this lovely restaurant for the delicious food and excellent customer service. Will definitely be returning for another excellent meal. Thank you to all the members and the chefs great team work.
