China dove in Gravesham

I have eaten here many times in the past few years and the taste is still great. It is the best Chinese restaurant in gravesend. The service is very good and there are discounts for ordering over the phone.

How is this place still In business when every review is about the bad food(probably use dog meat) do hygiene inspections even happen in gravesend? Probably not it’s a filthy town

Ordered food to be delivered, waited 1 hour and 20 minutes for delivery, which we had agreed to. Two meals were missing from the delivery. Phoned China Dove and the man on the phone was very rude telling us that the meals were not missing and he would not deliver more. It got very heated and the call ended with the man saying ‘maybe you should order somewhere else then.’ My mother in law went down to the shop the next day as they had con’d us out of £15. They refused to give the money back but said they would cook the meals for her now. The man said that maybe one of our family members had started eating the missing meals - how ridiculous! Had been ordering here for years with no problem prior to this, but will never be ordering again. Worst customer service ever experienced.

The most disgusting meal of what was supposedly chicken breast in bbq sauce, I have ever had delivered, after looking ar it for several minutes I binned it, what an absolute waste of money, needless to say I will not be using china dove again

Will blacklist you with no explanation or reason whatsoever. Had plenty of deliveries via Uber Eats with no problem, then all of a sudden they start getting cancelled. After the third or fourth time this happened, I called to ask why and was told that my address was blacklisted. I asked why any was told it was "because something happened. I don't remember". This is rude, unprofessional, and unacceptable. There is absolutely no reason for me to be blacklisted, there has never been an issue or incident. If there had been, why would I have continued to try to order from there?! Also, if "something happened", why is there no record of it to allow them to let me know what I have - allegedly - done wrong. He just said that there are plenty of other takeaways, but China Dove was always my favourite, so he is clearly happy to lose business over something he doesn't even remember.

Can only comment on the special chow mein and spring rolls I have just eaten. They were truly delicious. Emergency workers, blue light card discount here. Friendly staff too. Recommended

I ordered through just eat the restaurant is only 3 miles away. It came to £22.30 which included £2.50 delivery fee and 50p service charge. The restaurant called me to say they need to charge me another £1.50 to deliver it I refused and my order was cancelled. Daylight robbery. For the principle I will never use china dove again.

Ordered food, came after an hour, opened the food and it was smelly and tasted bad. Called the restaurant and the guy was extremely rude, saying the chef checked the pork and chicken and if we have any issues we should never order from the shop again. Very bad costumer treatment. I was their costumer and just asked freshly cooked. The guy said shall we buy a new tofu for you for making your dinner fresh ? Very dissapointing, we ordered no 163, fried chicken with garlic and chilli it turned out 3 out of 5 pcs are spoiled .yuck .Smell rotten meat . I rang the the restaurant expressing my dissapointment he checked with his chef, a typical self defense persona, instead of say sorry but insisted the chicken was cooked straight away from the freezer .Yeah from the freezer could has been kept there for months ??? Or perhaps from the beginning it was not fresh chicken after all!!when it was kept there. Will not order again.

The food was nice but the just eat driver got lost and the food was cold when it arrived. I have since tried to order from the restaurant again and because I complained that the food was cold I have been blocked from ordering from the restaurant which is ridiculous! I have spoken to the restaurant and are appalled that I have been blocked from there by them for this and have been told by them to take my business elsewhere! Horrible service and attitude towards a customer.

I ordered a takeaway meal this evening and although it arrived in time, I wish I hadn't bothered. The prawn toast was basically fried slices of a baguette. The spring rolls tasted of cleaning fluid and the rest was tasteless and of poor quality. I also ordered egg fried rice but there no sign of any egg in it.... I ended up throwing most of it in the bin - I wont be going back!!!!!!!!!!

Awful service, placed an online order waited an hour and then called to check that whether order was ready for delivery, I was told it was on its way after another 15 mins rang back only to be told the order hadn’t even been started and it’ll be a further 2 1/2 hrs!!!! I asked why I wasn’t told when I called the first time and because COVID you have to expect to wait up to 3 hrs. You can’t blame Covid for poor service and to top it off I will not get a refund until the end of the evening as only the Chef can do that. 😡😡.

Not sure what has happened with China Dove as have previously used them for takeaways, and never had a problem. I recently ordered a takeaway on a Saturday and had to wait 2 1/2 half hours for my food to be delivered. Not sure i will be using them again, if this is now what happens.

This was the 2nd time we used the China Dove first time not too bad this time awful. Waited 2hrs food cold half the order missing. Called restaurant chef said I could have 20% off another order which I refused all I wanted was the other half of the order after an argument they reluctantly delivered it. The female staff were very polite and helpful. The Chef and Co are rude and arrogant. Will never use them again. Quality of food very poor. Attitude worse.

No one should order anything from here. The food is okay but the owner/manager has a terrible customer service skill. I always order food from here because I haven’t found other option due to been very new to the area.

Absolutely VILE food!!!! it actually made me heave... like actually everything i ordered, i had a small group of friends round who all of them could not bare to eat it either... very disappointed after hearing such good reviews, when i called to complain the lady got extremely argumentative and aggressive towards me. China Dove has been my local take away of choice for at least 2 years now, having tried several others in Gravesend. I order from here at least once a month. Because of that I’ve not looked it up on Trip Advisor for some time, so I was truly shocked when I saw the recent run of negative reviews. They don’t reflect my experience at all. I’ve never had bad food, items missing, long delays for delivery or experienced rude and unhelpful staff. In the past I’ve had meals delivered within 20 minutes of ordering. Tonight, a Friday evening, it was about 45 minutes which is perfectly acceptable. If I choose to collect it’s usually ready in 10-15 minutes. The food has always been of a good standard and certainly no worse than any other Chinese take away I’ve ever used. Portions are plentiful. Good online ordering process on their website too so no need to use other delivery services. I’ve always been really happy with the service and food and will continue to give them my custom, hence offering my support by giving this review.

We complained about the quality of our food and we told basically to go and it is not their problem. We should have read all the reviews on this very poor Chinese restaurant. The food is disgustingly poor. Worst we have had too. Avoid at all cost!!! 🤮🤢

I ordered several dishes from the China Dove for family members at a cost of £45. All of the dishes were tasteless and awfully cooked and agreed by 5 people. I requested a full refund and for them to collect to takeaway which they refused. I should have read the other reviews of the restaurant. I have now heard that the restaurant is also rat infested and has a very low/ shut down hygiene rating. I have never had a worst meal than from this place. Avoid at all costs and the other reviews are correct.

Absolutely vile ,and how can u mess up a prawn cracker

I would strongly advise to avoid the China Dove, ordered a meal for delivery it took waited 2 hours, food arrived cold and inedible. I contacted the restaurant and was offered 10% back - £2.90, no way - I had wanted a hot Chinese meal. The restaurant were incredibly unhelpful and wouldn’t assist. The food with being cold had gone gloopy, it was awful!!! My recommendation for this restaurant is clear - Avoid at all cost.

Ordered a small-ish meal at 7.40pm and was told it'd be here by 9pm. After ringing up to enquire where our food was It turned up at 9.50! Pancake rolls were burnt and squashed flat and honestly tasted of cardboard. The Thai Red curry was watery and didn't taste of that Thai curry flavour! The Prawn crackers were over done, vermicelli special fried noodles were less than special. I wouldn't recommend the food from here to anyone. It gives Chinese food a bad name. Yuck 🤮

Had a late chinese delivery tonight.... It was awful.... Ribs were literally bones in bbq sauce.... Rice tasted of salt, prawn balls are the size of shrimps...chicken balls vile! Curry thin and oiley Disappointed.... Whoever rates this Chinese obviously doesn't know real food... I will stick to my usual Chinese

Great authentic food, worth the wait

Had the misfortune to order a takeaway from here the other night as my usual Chinese only accepts cash so had to use my card.Delivery took about an hour which was to be expected on a Saturday night.food was lukewarm,bland and of poor quality,ordered a chicken fu yung and ended up with an omelette a fu yung contains bean sprouts but this was an egg omelette with peas and chicken sprinkled on top,food is overpriced compared to other chinese takeaways in gravesend and lacking quality,if you want a decent Chinese try new dragon in darnley rd,I've been using it for years and have never had a bad meal from here and is very reasonably priced

This is usually our 'go to' Chinese takeaway but recently (whether new owners or new management) the quality of the food has changed, the delivery times are all over the place and the staff are unbelievably rude and offensive. Never ever again.

Do not order a takeaway from this restaurant. We ordered food for 4 people, 8 items, and 2 were missing. How difficult is it to check everything is in the bag? When we call to address the issue they can’t deliver the missing food for an hour. If we want a refund we have to go to the restaurant to get it. Ridiculous. Don’t bother. There are enough Chinese Takeaway’s in Gravesend to go elsewhere. DO SO!

we didn't eat here but me being vegan and my children can't have diary I rung to ask if noodles were egg, yes they were, ok no problem, but none of the other stuff is suitable either, they make their own sauces which is lovely but put dame egg or diary in everything, seriously that just seems ridiculous so u can't eat here if ur vegan or have any food allergies/intolerances it's nearly 2020 they need to get up to date with things

Just tried to place an order and was told that because we rang up to complain about the length of time a delivery took over a year ago, they refuse to cook our food!!! I was told to take my order elsewhere as the owner (who is also the only chef) didn't want my money. Absolute shambles of a restaurant.

I recently ordered a Chinese from here, I ordered 4 items online, an hour went by and I had wondered where the food was, I called the restaurant to enquire how much longer it would be, the person I spoke to was extremely rude to me and threatened to cancel my order and not deliver it and then said next time go somewhere else, I tried to ask why it took so long and again he spoke to me rudely, he said my food was leaving shortly, I live about 5 minutes drive from the restaurant, it was another 20 minutes until my food arrived and it had arrived cold and I felt too afraid to call up and let them know as they were so rude.

Usually do some nice food but I have ordered some food about an hour ago and they just phoned me to tell me they have run out of ingredients as the manager isn't in tonight. What kind of establishment runs out of of food stock on a Saturday night will now be taking my custom else where :(

Food was tasteless and just about warm. Ordered a chicken chow mein, mushroom rice and salt n chilli chicken. All was horrible. Didn't finish eating it. Won't be ordering from here again

Rude and arrogant telephone staff. No manners . Ordered a takeaway to be delivered . Took 2 hours ! Arrived stone cold . Restaurant did nothing to compensate , told by them that I should go elsewhere in the future and have never used them again since !

Had food from here before and was impressed, although it was some time ago. It's either changed hands or the chef has changed. We had a meal delivered to us, turned up 40 minutes late, no apology from the driver, food was tepid, the prawn crackers were vile, are they meant to be brown?? Not only were they burnt, they tasted foul, the whole bag went in the bin. The worst prawn crackers we've ever had, they may be thrown in for free, but trust me, the only place they should be thrown, is in the bin. Won't be ordering from here again I'm afraid.

I ordered it, went to pick it up brought it back home and we only ordered 6 things and my 4 people family two of which are hungry teenagers and we have alot spare and its amazing quality.

Ok so I gave the China Dove 3 stars for two main reasons, first I couldn't eat the prawn crackers as they gave a funny aftertaste. I know that's not a massive thing but I bought the Chicken Curry and I need to have some prawn crackers. second, the chicken did seem a little hard and dry. Service was good and they brought the food out quite fast except one of us that was a little behind the rest making us feel like we had to wait to start eating.

Would never order from hear again. Told me on phone my food was 25 I ordered a bottle of coke as the women on the phone said that all they had and she said 26.80. Took nearly two hours to come no bottle of coke, was cold when dished it up got two portions of chips when I asked for one and they was cremated look as if been cooked in dirty oil and left for hours. Rice was stodgy and bland. Chicken chow main is awful. Prawn toast was brunt and had vile taste to it. Couldn't even eat the salt and pepper chicken if only I got put a pic up of it!!! Even the crackers had a nasty taste to them. When I've rang them all I get is the manger says he'll give me 10% discount next time I order! As if I'm gonna order again after this it will be the first and last time. I'm off to bed hungry now as all that food is good for is the bin.

No matter when you order the service is always pleasant and efficient, I can order by phone or in person and it’s never to much trouble, and always good quality.

Just had a family meal, was top quality with good service, definitely gonna come back again! Would recommend to anyone who loves Chinese as much as we do!

I visited this restaurant again in January 2018 and the food has met my high expectations again. The chef, receptionist and waitress are attentive to my specific needs, such as the spiciness of the food and how the vegetables should be cooked.

I have been ordering my Chinese food from this shop for years and the last 5 orders have been very disappointing, as there is always food missing. The lady justifies this by saying she will give me a 20% next time. I ordered my food today which we collected as our guests were leaving at 8.30. When we received our food the chicken chow mein had NO chicken, and the shredded duck had no plum sauce onions or cucumber. I telephoned the lady and she made me wait 10 minutes while she took other orders. When I explained this she was not helpful and I said I will come and pick up the chicken chow mein, a warm shredded duck with the accompaniments.

Best Chinese I have been to. I Always get the Satay chicken and Singapore chow mein extra spicy (plus others of course) Very friendly and great customer service. Top marks all the way.

I have ordered from here a few times. Food was ok. Last time I ordered food was disgusting and smelled off. The following day my son and I were sick with food poisoning. Went in to complain and couldn't believe how dirty it is. Health inspector would love this place

I ordered take away meal for my family of five, last week. I ordered from this restaurant simply because our favorite cafe was closed due to renovation. But it turned out very satisfying food and now become our other favorite local restaurant.

I recently discovered this hidden gem in Gravesend. It's the best and most authentic Chinese food in the area. The owners run the restaurant and is also the chef, so you know that they will always provide the best service and use the finest ingredients. Their special chili oil is also homemade and absolutely incredible.

I went to the China Dove on a date. It was the worst experience I have had in restaurant ever. The vodka was watered down and we were instructed to pay for our meals after the starter. The woman who runs it was rude and her behaviour was appalling. We tried to make a complaint about the service and food but was verbally berated... apparently im an alcoholic SO she expressed. Unfortunately my date had already paid almost £50.00 for the meal which we didn't eat due to us feeling we could no longer stay and eat there. I would never go into that establishment again and I would not recommend it.

Hadn't used this restaurant for a while, this time wasn't as good as when we had before. The sauce in the dishes seemed very watered down, think the oil in the fryer is due a change. Won't be using again.

Too much of the food is microwaved. Received a Singapore fried rice with frozen veg in it. This happened previously and I didn't say anything. Today they forgot the prawn crackers and could not care less. She said something about I didn't ask for the complimentary ones that come with it, despite every other place giving you what you expect. Will not be using this place again due to the horrendous customer service and lack of care for errors made.

Good and delicious authentic chinese food in Gravesend. Ordered some tofu dishes, sweet and sour chicken balls (it's the best), thai sweet chilli squids and some more with plain rice. They say delivery time is around 1-1.5 hour which sounds long but the food actually arrived in 50 minutes for us. Will come back again. Update: Try their cheesecake for dessert if they happen to have it! Its very light and refreshing whilst creamy

Yummiest food, nicest people. Try their New Wonderful Dragon, my favourite dish. Have never had a bad meal from them and I use them A LOT. No other Chinese takeaway lives up to theirs. Highly recommended

The usual Chinese we use was closed so thought we'd give China Dove a go! Wish we hadn't bothered it was awful.We had salt and pepper squid – tasteless and bland – hardly any squid.The duck was fatty and not very niceThe beef was so chewy I couldn’t eat any! The pork tasted like it had been warmed up several times and the prawns in yellow bean was disgusting! Seriously do not bother with this place we won’t be using!

We order food from China Dove at least once a week. The food makes the place one of the best Chinese restaurants in Gravesend (we always order chinese here). Also, most of the time, delivery only takes 20-30 minutes! (2.5+ miles) The only downside is the minimum delivery cost at £14 which is a bit more expensive than the average £12 but I would say the food is worth it!

Great food, amazing people and brilliant service. I totally recommend going there if you want a quit meal with your family and not to be disturbed by drunk people or corny live music. It's cheap, it's quiet and the food is spot on.

Food is great never go to any other Chinese and ALL the staff are really friendly.We tend to use them once a week.Although you can eat in we always take away and have never had a bad meal from there.They also do deliveries but we like to wander down as I said earlier staff are always friendly even when busy.

Me and my boyfriend use this Chinese weekly and we think the food is lovely and well priced and the take away service is quick and tasty!

The delivery driver had no idea where we were and wouldn't listen to my instructions, just kept talking over me. He tried to make me pay again even though I'd used the app online to pay. Showed him my confirmation email and he still looked doubtful. Half my soup had leaked from the container and all the food was lukewarm. The sweet and sour sauce tasted like straight up vinegar. I'll NEVER be ordering from this restaurant again.

I had beef in black bean sauce and boiled rice it was very very nice also had other dishes plain chow mein, chicken with cashews in yellow bean sauce and egg fried rice I took this away to eat at home but you can sit in and eat to would definitely order again
