Chimes Cafe in Harrogate

The hot chocolate was of of the best I’ve ever had! The scone was absolutely delicious and staff very friendly. It was my first time visiting but it won’t be my last.

Simple, honest fare, prepared on request to the highest standards with local produce. Delicious. Friendly staff and a proprietor/chef who cares about everyone’s meal and personally pays attention to his customers. A whole-hearted local support , and visitors made equally welcome. Not only that, it’s wonderful value. Really worth a visit.

My friend and I decided to meet up at Chimes for lunch with our little ones. We are so glad we did, it was delicious. We went for the Ham, brie and cranberry toastie which was on the specials board and we finished off with a fruit scone with cream and jam. The food was all freshly made and tasted beautiful. Very reasonably priced. The owners were very lovely and welcoming. The cafe is very cute with plenty of seating inside and out! We will be definitely returning, thank you.

The three of us had a lovely lunch, sitting out in the cafe’s rear seating area, on a sunny afternoon in Ripon! The food was delicious and the service top notch. Staff couldn’t have been any friendlier or professional! Would highly recommend and will definitely visit again!

Delicious scones bought to take away. Rhubarb and Ginger, Blueberry and Lemon, Cherry Bakewell and some cheese scones, all absolutely delicious, even the next day. Definitely the best scones in Ripon.

A really pleasant café with fresh, delicious food at reasonable prices. Homemade abounds. Also proper Yorkshire hosts! A thoroughly enjoyable lunchtime for all of us.

Excellent cafe situated right outside the Cathedral. We had done the park run at Fountains Abbey and were ready for a lovely breakfast. Poached eggs and avocado on toast were perfect. Marc makes all his own scones. We were too full so bought to take home ; we had the scones last night. They were perfect. Excellent cafe with great service and atmosphere. 👏👏👏👌👌👌👌

What an absolute gem of a cafe in Ripon! Sausage rolls, flapjack, toastie and not to mention the BEST scones ever!! Always a pleasure to eat here as the food is wonderful and Mark and the staff are always so welcoming, eat local and enjoy!! 🙌🙌

Stumbled on Chimes a couple of weeks ago and not disappointed. Beautiful smooth rich coffee, great lunch menu all freshly prepared and presented, good size portions and great value for money. The scones and cakes all made by the owner daily, and wow the unusual cherry and marzipan scone has me hooked absolutely amazing so much so I buy 1 and take 2 home. Good location a few minutes from cathedral, much bigger inside than it looks from outside. Really good customer experiencence, service, clean and cosy. A must visit when in Ripon.

We both chose a giant sausage roll and we were not disappointed. The sausage rolls were in fact giant sized with the right amount of pastry complimenting the tasty filling. A fine example of a home item being far superior to a mass produced product. Friendly and efficient service together with hot tea, just perfect.

Great little Tearoom,food was delicious and tea was hot. We both had a club sandwich and ate every bite. Very friendly gentleman and bigger than it looks as it opens up at the back. Highly recommended x

A group of 12 of us in Ripon for the day to visit the Workhouse and Prison Museums booked for lunch at Chimes. We were seated together in the pretty little conservatory and received immediate service from the friendly café owner and his lovely young assistant, Ruby. The food was freshly prepared and very tasty: deep filled sandwiches with salad and crisps, soup with the best-ever cheese scones and a delicious creamy feta, tomato and sweet chilli quiche. The owner even gave me a bit of quiche to try. Yum, yum! Cannot recommend this little café too highly.

Just popped in for a brew and a scone and can thoroughly recommend. Mark the owner is a genial host as are his staff. Had the lemon and blueberry scone that are freshly baked and it was the best I've ever had. Will definitely return when we visit the area again.

One of the best cafes we visit. Best scones, possibly in the land. A must if you visit Ripon, or just want a run out. Very friendly staff.

Visit with family this week to see if the scones were as good as we remembered and we were not disappointed. I had a lemon and blueberry while my mum had a cherry and marzipan. They were so fresh they simply melted in the mouth. The coffee was perfect, hot and tasty. The cakes all looked amazing so we will be back to try again. The staff were friendly and the garden is beautiful, with flowers flourishing in the sheltered baskets. Don't miss if visiting Ripon.

We stopped here for lunch and had to come and leave a review because the food and the service we received was too good not too! The homemade sausage roll was incredible followed by the most delicious blueberry and lemon scone with clotted cream and lemon curd! Friendly and tentative staff added to the experience. Would definitely come again and recommend!

We stopped off in Ripon on the way home and found this perfect cafe on Kirkgate across from the cathedral. It looks small but has lots of seating through to the back garden. Absolutely loved our food here!! The toasties served with crisps and salad - a decent serving not 3 leaves like many places was generously served hot and tasty. It was freshly made by staff that are all sooooo nice. It’s like going to a friends to eat. If you’re on a day out or having a visit this is an absolute MUST!! This is from a person who’s very picky! Popped in for a light lunch on a damp miserable winters day. Lovely panini’s and sandwiches followed by a delightful Christmas scone with jam n cream. Lovely food, nice cosy seating area and very friendly proprietor and staff. Will definitely be returning and bringing friends when they visit us. It might just become a regular haunt for me.

We’ve called in here a few times now to meet up for a chat. Super variety of tasty scones, flavourful decaf coffee as well as other types of coffee. We always sit in the quaint back room overlooking the cute garden. Great service & nothing is too much trouble for the staff. Also they do fabulous tasty lunches with large portions. Brilliant value for money. If you’re a visitor to Ripon this is the ideal cafe after visiting the Cathedral.

I met a friend at Chimes Café as it was a half way point to where we both lived and what a welcome we received. The owner could not do enough for us. The friendly welcome was accompanied by the awesome food and service and nothing was too much trouble. Homemade cooking at its best and attention to detail was brilliant. We have been to Chimes a few times now for our lunch and every time it has been really delicious as everything is homemade. We can definitely recommend the soup, toasties and daily specials and their scones and cakes are to die for, they definitely are the best scones in Ripon! The staff are always lovely and friendly and take the time to chat to you. If you’re looking for somewhere to eat in Ripon, whether it be coffee and cake or lunch, we would definitely recommend Chimes.

Chimes continues to be our go to place when visiting Ripon. The atmosphere is warm and welcoming and the food is fabulous. All homemade and beautifully cooked. Highly recommend, especially on a cold wet day in November. Thank you for your hospitality.

Great place for lunch or just a coffee and cake, either way the service and food are very good. Can be quite busy at lunch times but, to me, that means it must be good.

This is a treat for you all. Just a stones throw from the cathedral, it is warm and welcoming . The soup with option of bread or scone. The blue cheese and walnut salad delightful. And the giant sausage roll “very meaty “. Delightful, and ascetic in every way . Thanks so much mark and the team .
