Firstly we are Chilli Padi addicts!!! But this was not of the standard expected. Can someone explain why when I ask for "everything together" ( that being simply, a bowl of soup,1 x spicy prawns,1x butter chicken, 1 x rice and noodles) it comes out firstly a single bowl of rice, then 5 minutes later my spicy prawns come out. We try them, find the rice cold and the prawns cool - so,we send it back. Then , the butter chicken appears- cool at best - it gets sent back. The only thing hot ,was the spicy soup!!! It all been sent back........... Eventually we are both eating the dishes we ordered at a respectable temperature. Hot Food!! Then,whilst still eating, a lass arrives asking if she can clear plates ,- that still had food on- unreal What's going on!!! During this episode ,we timed the placement of a single bowl of rice on a table of maybe 10 people. It was nearly 4 minutes before food starting arriving ,plate by plate. Was the rice hot when eaten? Well at £5 a bowl, it bloody well should be!! Then ,when paying for this meal for 2 people,the lass asked me if i wanted my " change" -which was nearly £14 !!! Are these people real? Suffice to say after that experience,I wanted every penny. Not the best experience,we will try elsewhere next time ..... ..

What can I say except it is the best restaurant I've ever been to. Their Stir Fry Beef Kueh Teow is purely amazing. I go there each time I come to Newcastle and it just never misses. Please Chilli Padi, open a restaurant in France and I'll be your first most loyal client. Never close!! I just come to Newcastle to eat at this fabulous place. I love you Chilli Padi <3

Came here for tea with a mate and my son. My son is quite a picky eater and didn’t like the dish the waiter suggested (I ended up eating the next day and it was delicious) and ordered plain fried rice. I ordered the beef flank curry and I have to say it was the best beef curry I’ve had in years. My mate ordered a selection of starters which he was very happy with. Staff here are really friendly and helpful.

What a treat this place is! We ordered smoked chicken which was *chefs kiss* DELICIOUS! it’s sticky, sweet & full of flavour! King po chicken is saucy, tangy & so crispy on the outside & soft on the inside! Chicken Gyoza’s are a firm fave. We ordered the pan friend Malaysian fish noodles from the specials menu and it was all absolutely outstanding! The service was stunning too! The nicest waiting staff I have ever had the pleasure of dealing with! All round 10/10 Highly recommended!

Lovely service, very friendly staff and the food really was amazing. First time here and the large Smoked Chicken was probably the nicest meal I've had all year. The sweet sticky sauce with the ever so slightly crispy chicken along with spring onions was so nice. If only I knew how to make it. I'll certainly be back!

The curry chicken rice is very delicious and the food quality is quite good.

I'm in Newcastle for a few weeks but this store is pretty great. Had the Chili Ban Mian (Pan Mian), its a pretty good balance between a little spicy from the chili paste while the onions and anchovies add a bit of texture to the noodles. It is pretty expensive if you come from other countries considering the exchange rates (applies to all places in the UK) but it has a pretty massive portion and is definitely is a place to try at least once.

The food might be good but the professionalism is below zero. Ordered food on 13/07 at 7pm with estimated delivery around 20:25. Got the food at 21:38. Called the place 3 times to hear different excuses. First time saying the driver was doing some deliveries first, second time it was leaving the restaurant (so not with the driver) and third time "we do not know where your order is". All I got was empty "sorry we are too busy" but if you are unable to do the requests then you should not take it in first place. And nothing, nothing except a terrible management can justify 2h35 to deliver an order.

Chilli Padi have a huge menu with a variety of dishes to choose from. Each dish with its own bursting flavour. The portion sizes are huge and worth the spend. Will definitely be coming back to try some of their other dishes.

We were lucky to get a table as it was pretty busy. So, it’s probably best to book in advance. The place looked pretty basic, but the staff were friendly and efficient, plus the food was fantastic. There were lots of vegetarian options (far more than most restaurants, so I was overwhelmed having choices). We had to ask for chopsticks as there were only knives and forks on our table, but a staff member was immediately over with some. I liked that the straws were edible, they were made from rice and more durable than paper straws. It didn’t take long for our order (the starter came out at the same time as the main course). The portions were big, full of flavour and really tasty. I’d highly recommend and will definitely return in the near future.

Roti canai was quite salty so didnt really enjoy it much but everything else was SO tasty for starters had satay chicken skewers and mains was a seafood noodle - extremely delicious and really tasty Bit of a shame they dont do any malaysian / south eastern asian desserts - would have really topped this place off to offer anything of the sort as I was really hoping I could try a malaysian dessert Extremely wide range menu for main course and starters though so highly recommend Service was quick and food came very quickly too

First time here, lovely food and a good atmosphere, beer and wine selection was ok and card payment taken so I can only assume some reviews are quite old 🤷‍♂️ I had Seafood Tom Yum soup , which was a huge bowl of very tasty liquid, a thoroughly pleasant experience!!

I love the restaurant because the food is good and thr staffs are friendly.

Do not got to this if you’re a person of colour or black. The instant we walked in the staff were unfriendly, they took the order of the table next us that arrived after us despite being obviously ready to order. Staff took ages to come and to our order, despite not being that busy. Their tone with us was very blunt in comparison to a warm/bubbly to a fully white customers. We bagged up our own leftovers, despite every other table getting their leftovers bagged up.

Found this place on recommendation of a friend. So glad we went! Food was fabulous, spicy, but not too much, large portions with enough to take home. Stars off were for having to go find the waiter to take our order and the time it took (after reminding them) to get the drinks to us. The food however was quick to show up and tasted so good! Little pricey overall, but then where isn't these days. Went on a Thursday evening and had booked online, but there were still a few tables available.

Found this restaurant by chance when visiting Newcastle and I must say it’s one of the best I’ve tried! I ordered a nasi lemak and it tasted exactly like the one I had when I was in Malaysia. Staff were very lovely and helpful, the place was very clean and neat. Food waiting time isn’t long. Portions are pretty big so you get a lot for what you pay for. The only minor downside is the choice of music in the background! Doesn’t go with the restaurant 😅

Terrible service for my German guests. They were herded like cattle within minutes of being served cold food. Both are medical students and were shocked by the behaviour of the staff. This was at 7.30 pm when they were kicked out unceremoniously

Good place to try new food. The only problem I had was that, some of the dishes were very sweet. Not something I personally prefer with spicy stuff. But overall I loved the place!

My dish was so spicy that it wasn't edible! My spice tolerance is very very high. The waitress said that the dish wasn't spicy, so I asked for it to be made hot. When I complained that even the chef wouldn't be able to eat this, I was told that they have an extremely hot chilli paste and the chef hasn't reduced the amount used. No exchange or refund for the meal!

The service was excellent, and the dishes were served very quickly. However, the Thai rice noodles were overcooked and tasted bitter. The Korean seafood pancake only contained eggs and seafood, suggesting that the chef may have forgotten to add flour. We specifically chose this restaurant after Googling reviews, so it was quite disappointing for us. Overall, it was a disappointing dinner. The service was great and the food came out very quickly. However, the Thai rice noodles were overcooked and bitter. Korean seafood pancakes are just eggs and seafood, and the chef probably forgot to add flour. We have been the biggest fans of Chilli Padi since we first started going to their old premises almost 10 years ago. We have always been their biggest fans - takeaways during Covid, always visiting in town for lunch/ tea etc but we were disappointed in recent visit. It is so much more expensive than it was, I understand everything has gone up in price but it was almost £18 for some mains and they just didn’t deliver on taste. Mango chicken wasn’t as tasty as it used to be, firecracker chicken was a small portion for the price and lacked oomph. Kids loved the noodles but me and husband came away feeling robbed. We had no alcohol and food was just mediocre yet we had expensive bill. Please return to previous quality and we’ll be back!

Love this place and once again didn't disappoint for a dinner catchup with a mate. Luckily we did have a booking as was quite busy on a Friday evening. Super fast service and in spite of how crowded it was we managed to have a chill catch up and once it quietened down after abt 9pm we stayed on to slowly finish our food (it was a lot with their big portions and authentic Malaysian dishes) over a few great Asian beers 🍻

Food quality is good but way too spicy or I could say unnecessarily made spicy hot. In one of the dish we ordered there were more number of dry red chillies than the meat pieces! Drinks were expensive. No choice for nibbles, your only option is to order starters! Waiters were inattentive and overall it looked like they were not bothered if you were there or not.

Ordered takeaway for the first time from here. Got Hokkien fried rice and the Dry Pad Mian. Absolutely delicious. Best takeaway in a long time. Looking forward to ordering again and hopefully visiting to work our way though the rest of the menu.

Went in for dinner on a Monday evening. The food was good and would highly recommend but took a long time to arrive and our waiter was inattentive and unfriendly. Drinks we asked for never arrived despite asking if they were on their way.

The best Malaysian food outside of Malaysia!!!

Honestly don't get the hype about this place. We've been two times and both times our experience has been consistently bad. After a very disappointing first time, we decided to give it a go again thinking it was just one off day. We ordered the smoked chicken dish which everyone raves about and to be honest can't understand the craze. Our chicken was dry, tough, hard to chew and tasted like it was dunked it syrup! It was like having chicken for pudding!! The other half ordered Nasi Lemak which definitely didn't taste fresh, the chicken was tough and dry like it's been microwaved to death!! Very disappointing considering the price! All the other dishes we ordered had a common theme, an overload of salt, sugar and probably MSGs! We also ordered jasmine rice only to br served plaim rice but charged for jasmine,which is more expensive. If you enjoy freshly made authentic Malaysian food with quality ingredients, do yourself a favour don't spend your time and money here. Don't be.fooled by the good reviews, it has a cult following mostly made possible by so called local 'influencers' marketing this place in return for free food. If your palate enjoys salty, processed food full of additives then this is the place to be!

Great menu, excellent service, but on a cold night it was a bit draughty - particularly when the takeaway delivery guys kept leaving the door open!

We wanted some food after being at the Newcastle game, with the town being super busy and everyone piling out at the same time, we weren't sure we'd get in anywhere, passed Chilli Padi which I've been dying to try out for ages and I thought we'd see if they could fit the two of us in! They were very busy, with booking for eating in and takeaways, but within 10 minutes we had a seat, we'd been looking at the menu whole waiting so ordered pretty quick, we went for the Smoked Chicken (which was what I'd been wanting to try from reviews I'd seen), Sweet and sour chicken, soft noodles and salt and chilli chips. The amount of food was unreal, but it certainly wasn't quantity over quality because everything was super tasty, full of flavour and very quick coming out, the Smoked chicken was perfectly cooked and not too spicy, the sweet and sour was steaming hot and well, exactly what you'd want from a sweet and sour, the best I've had actually. The sides we'd ordered, the soft noodles, were great and I loved the fact there was plenty of veg in them, salt and chilli chips were also beautiful! We couldn't get through all of the food with it just being the two of us, but I didn't want to stop eating, we brought 4 cartons of food home which will be a very enjoyable lunch for the following day! The pricing for the amount of food is really good and actually for what we ordered, I think you could have fed a family of 4, cant wait to go back

I shouldn't put too much expectation upon this trip. 1. Rendang flank is quite far from tender, and the rendang paste just lack that kinda flavour. 2. Should never mix up "satay chicken" with "chicken skewer with satay sauce", my bad. 3. Luckily, the pan fried french beans in spicy sauce is superb. Staffs are friendly though. Will definitely come back again when others not open.

Authentic and great quality. It is hard to find restaurants that serve authentic tastes to far East Asian food rather than a modified westernised recipe with too much sauce or sugar. Chilli Padi did it just right. Such a gem, I'm so glad my friend brought me here. The Laksa chicken noodles were sooooo good. Spicy enough to make me ask for extra water but friendly enough for my friend to help herself for more servings. Reasonable prices too. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone who wants to try real far East Asian food in Newcastle. Interior is clean, modern and decorated with a cute graffiti counter. Update: since my first visit, I've come here plenty of times for catching up with friends and even for a date. :P🌹 They do takeaways and deliveries too!

As a Malaysian, food was average and nothing to boast about. Service was good but I have been to this restaurant 3 separate times, and I haven't been fully satisfied the past 3 times. Ordered the beef rendang but it wasn't very flavourful. Nasi Lemak, the chicken was dry. Roti Canai was good.

Absolutely amazing food and service as usual

I chose curry with rice, she chose chicken pieces with rice, and we chose a side dish of steamed or smoked chicken from the sweet-tasting variety. It was the most delicious among the selected dishes, despite much praise, but I did not succeed in our variety. Thank you

Disclaimer is that these are old photos,I haven’t dined in this lovely place for months due to taking the food out but I rarely do that. I hope to dine in sometime again,the indian style noodles were absolutely fantastic along with the dumplings and soy sauce. It would definitely cost 40 pound or more if your with 3 people and your careful with what you order. Even if it’s pricey,the food is worth it. Plus the place is Halal.

I've had food from here a few times, I just feel like they deserve a good review. Food has always been on point, noodles are delicious and they have some of the best and crispiest calamari. Can't go wrong with these guys, yes the dishes can get pricey but it's worth it for a treat. Really can't complain!

The food was delicious. Staff very friendly but my criticism is that our dishes didn't arrive all at once to the table. There were three of us. They first brought a plate of chips which was a side to my son's main, several minutes later they brought my daughter's main, then after some time my son's and eventually mine. It's not ideal the rest of your party has to wait while others are already eating. At the same time waiting for all the of the dishes to arrive would mean the food brought first would get cold. They need to coordinate this better as the food is delicious and this part of the service is getting them down.

I'm Malaysian and have tried so many Malaysian dishes all over the UK. I can guarantee you that they serve very good authentic Malaysian food here. Nasi lemak tastes so good with delicious sambal. I’ve been here more than 5 times now and the food is always spot on. They serve halal meat which makes it even better. The portion is big and value for your money. Always my go-to restaurant when in Newcastle. Make sure to book a table before coming over here if you don’t want to be on the waiting list.

We've been here at least 4 times now and have really enjoyed it each time. I especially recommend the smoked chicken and the portions are large enough so they're very good value for money!

Lovely meal. Very tasty authentic food. Highly recommend the smoked chicken, the chefs special Chong Qing spicy chicken with egg fried rice. And the Chicken potato in CP honey pepper sauce. We will definitely return. Top tip - these guys know how to add heat to their food. If it says that it is a hot dish, then it really is. The Chong Qing was packed full of delicious chillis. I would scale it similar to a very hot madras for comparison of heat.

I thoroughly enjoyed a Saturday lunch at Chilli Padi in central Newcastle upon Tyne. It's a simple but modern café-style place, a short walk from the football ground. Such decor suits me perfectly as visiting is all about the food; traditional Malaysian cuisine. Service was welcoming and efficient. I was tempted by the beef rendang but went for nasi goreng kampung, a classic Malaysian dish, plus sweet and sour chicken. The dishes were big on flavour and I look forward to returning to try a bowl of rendang.

I have been to Chilli Padi many times and their food is always delicious, authentic and generous. Everything I have tried on the menu is scrumptious, served in huge portions. I particularly love their Laksa, the salt and chilli fried starters and their interesting cocktails. Staff are always friendly and nice. They try their best to accommodate walk-ins as well. The ambience is lively and relaxed. There is a parking lot right opposite which is quite useful too. Chilli Padi remains a great choice for food in the area.

Great all round experience. Huge selection of choices on the menu. Reasonably priced and served nicely. Hot flavoursome and copious. Service was good and the place was buzzing as usual. Highly recommend for a drop in lunch or a night out with friends.

When we first arrived it was packed! Very busy restaurant and I’m not surprised as it’s a one of a kind restraunt and they have dishes that aren’t available commonly in anywhere else. Even though the place was packed we only had a short wait until our table was ready. We ordered our food and was reassured the food wouldn’t take long to come to our table - whilst we waited they gave us some complementary veggie spring rolls with a side of sweet chilly dipping sauce which was actually nice! - and before we knew it 10 mins later our food started arriving at our table - everything was amazing and very interesting - my favourite and the most popular was the smoked chicken however everything else was just as good! Overall great experience and I will keep coming back!

Absolutely blown away by this gem. Wanting to try a different cuisine for my husbands birthday meal, and having heard only good reviews about Chilli Padi, we now had a good reason to venture into the city on a cold rainy night.. we were not disappointed. Right from the staff who were always smiling, down to the food, that made us smile it was a 5 star experience. We ordered a few dishes to try out spice ranging from mild to spicy - For starters we got the Salt & Chilli Enoki Mushrooms and Squid and the Tom Yum Seafood soup. The soup was delicious, overflowing with the flavours and just the right amount of lemongrass. For the main course we ordered Tofu Mee Goreng as my husband doesn't eat meat, Beef Rendang ( can't recommend this enough - it pairs really really well with the Roti Canai) Malaysian curry with Chicken legs, and the seafood Mee Goreng As my son doesn't eat very spicy good, we got him the Chicken Chow Mein. He rated is 5 stars and told the hostess this well. In his words" it was the best ever noodles 🍜. Overall I can say it amount we spent which was £130 for 5 people was very worth the price, I can't fault the quality of food and the quantity per dish was enough for 2 people to easily share. We even ordered 2 Mak-Cik cocktails. We will definitely be visiting again to try the other dishes. There is a parking lot almost opposite the restaurant so it was easy to get to.

Love getting food from here whether we eat in or take out. Its great that they use halal meat and do not have any non halal meat or poultry on the menu as we would no longer eat here if they did as would many others. Chilli padi is a great restaurant for Newcastle. Their tasty food and service is unmatched, the chefs are all amazing!

i think this is top 10 restaurants in newcastle ! got the beef shank malaysian curry and it was soooo yummy and i had to take half home with me because the portion was so big. just soooo good, only qualm id have is its quite expensive (have to buy rice separately so the curry goes to about £20 alone)

It was our first time. We ordered udon plane, udon with seafoods, something like curry, smoked sweet chicken and chips. I can not say it was amazing, so it wasn't our type of food. Very specific and spicy food for those who like Asian. However, the service was good. The food was brought fast and it was hot.

It’s rare I’d call a restaurant ‘unmissable’, but Chilli Padi has to break that exception!! Authentic flavours, great staff and awesome portions!

I tried their pulled tea , roti canai and buddha bowl from their vegetarian menu . The buddha bowl was really bad in taste , but the other options two were amazing.

Have tried many times and decided to try the food van last time they were in Springwell. They were there from 5 but ran out of rice by the time I ordered at 5:30! I was wanting chicken laksa and they offered it with noodles or chips. Didn’t come with any chilli paste so it was essentially fried chicken with an egg and noodles (which weren’t great) with dried fish. It was not laksa! No roti either so was very limited on choice. My girlfriend had the beef rendang which again wasn’t great, did not have the pull-apart tenderness of a good rendang. Very disappointing as I love the restaurant.

Great food.. wish to have Singaporean or Asian decor on wall so people can feel the authentic of the shop

This is the first time for me and the people I visited this restaurant with, from work. I was totally unaware of the dishes being served here, and the choices were far too many. The staff seemed quite busy, and therefore, I didn't want to inconvenience them by requesting a recommendation. I went with the Kongpo Chicken, my mistake, as the dish was sweet and that is not to my taste. It's unfortunate that I didn't know what to choose as I have had authentic Malaysian food at a friend's house, and I loved it, but I couldn't remember what it was called. It is quite pricey, so I would suggest to getting a recommendation of the type of dishes you like and not being disappointed with your choice like I was.

Food was not what I expected for the price, it is expensive. There was no atmosphere and the restaurant itself looked cheap and slightly run down. I've had better elsewhere for a lot less money. We only had 2 courses each and 2 glasses of wine, it came to nearly £40pp

Favourite halal Chinese/Malaysian restaurant in Newcastle. Prices are higher than other places but portion sizes, quality and taste make up for that! Beef in black bean sauce and chilli king prawns recommended.

Great food usually (when it arrives!) but APPALLINGLY poor delivery service. Two hours, still waiting… nobody knows where our £60+ order is or when it will arrive. Friday night ruined. Won’t be ordering again.
