This place lived up to the hype, the food was absolutely delicious and I cannot wait to go back. The food was brought out very quickly and together with the starters as requested. Would highly recommend this place. The calamari and chilli chips were the highlight for me.

Ordered for delivery, approximately 1.5 hours to arrive. I order the smoked chicken which was very flavoursome. But very small portion, egg fried rice quite dry and not much taste small portion. Noodles very nice. Minimum order £20 so added chips £5 for a portion with delivery and fees was just over £26 which I wouldn’t have minded paying if there was a decent portion size, I don’t have a big appetite but I could have ate all myself so if you have a big appetite you will be very disappointed about the portions but the food is tasty.

First time trying Malaysian food, and our waitress was great at explaining the dishes and helping us choose our food. Loved every bite. Portions were generous, flavours were incredible! Cannot wait to go back.

Good restaurant, fast service, staff is very attentive and helpful..food is good but definitely NOT authentic...if you are Malaysian and crave Malaysian food you might be disappointed..for example the nasi lemak..can barely taste the coconut flavor in them.. don't think it's too much to add a bit of coconut powder to the rice and actually being a real nasi lemak but nope doesn't really taste like one..the rice texture are nice but so very close to just regular rice..in Malaysia the phrase to describe this is probably say "kedekut santan"..if there is one dish they should had gotten it right it has to be nasi lemak but unfortunately no...and the satay is simply fried chicken out on a skewer with satay sauce that taste like it comes out of a premade bottle instead of being made fresh... shouldn't had called it satay-at least marinate it with some lemongrass, ginger, galangal, onion etc but nope just zero satay flavor..so if you have bad cravings maybe still worth coming here but flavor are just not authentic as you would expect in Malaysia..

Order placed and confirmed via Just Eat, time passed, and then cancelled without explanation or apology. Nice food (if you get it...).

My husband and I lived in Malaysia for 6,7 years back in 2009. Now, I'm pregnant and I was craving Malaysian food. We base in Darlington and we drove all the way to Newcastle to eat Malaysian food and it was great. The taste of Nasi Lemak, nasi goreng kampung, and Teh tarik brought me back to those years and our sweet memories of Malaysian food. The price is definitely higher than what you can find in Malaysia which makes sense! Satay was not the same but Roti Canai was also exactly the same taste. Overally, great! There is also a public carpark so close to the restaurant.

Highly recommend. Food was amazing. Customer service was fantastic. I recommend sharing bc the portions are massive! Fastest food service I’ve ever had (I must’ve ordered and food was out about 5-10 mins later!) Would defo return!!!

A truly memorable dining experience.

A Culinary Gem in Newcastle! From the moment we stepped into Chilli Padi, we were treated to a fantastic dining experience. The service was truly exceptional – attentive, friendly, and always ready to assist. They even happily provided chilli oil and pepper to elevate my already superb soup! Speaking of the soup, it was a revelation! The unique fusion of tomato, seafood, and lime was absolutely delightful, and the generous portion was packed with perfectly cooked, flavourful noodles and standout king prawns. We also tried the Beef Hotpot with 5 spices, which was certainly a unique and very filling dish. While the richness and tenderness of the meat were undeniable, and the flavour profile was deep and satisfying (not spicy at all), it wasn't my personal favourite. However, I could still appreciate the quality and care put into its preparation. Overall, the food was incredibly well-seasoned, and the value for money was outstanding, especially considering the generous portion sizes. Yes, it was perhaps a touch salty, but that's often to be expected and didn't detract from our enjoyment. While the drinks menu felt a little on the pricier side, and the atmosphere, though cozy, could perhaps benefit from a modern touch, these minor points were overshadowed by the exceptional service and truly delicious food. Chilli Padi offers a fantastic culinary experience that's well worth seeking out, even if it's on a quieter street. The quality of the food, coupled with the outstanding service and generous portions, easily earns Chilli Padi a full five stars from me! We'll definitely be returning.

Food was nice but the beef curry gave my partner food poisoning. It's probably best to not get meat here.

What I would say is the food isn't bad, but not authentic malaysian cuisine. We ordered nasi lemak which had lovely malay style sambal, generous servings of anchovies and was accompanied by fried chicken breast. The chilli pan mee we ordered tasted more like stickily sweet teriyaki sauce than authentic malaysian chilli pan mee. Yung yang noodles turned out really to be hawker "zap fan noodles" than true Yung Yang noodles (which is delicious but rather labelled misleadingly), and the oatmeal prawn - tasted more like salt and pepper prawn. All in all, the food is good, but we were surprised that most of the dishes we ordered - turn out to be a different dish/flavour than one would expect.

I’m incredibly disappointed with what used to be my favourite restaurant in Newcastle. Chili Paddi once offered generous portions at fair prices — a perfect balance that kept me coming back. Sadly, that’s no longer the case. The portion sizes have noticeably shrunk, yet the prices remain the same, if not higher. What was once a satisfying and reliable spot now feels like a letdown. I really hope they turn things around, but for now, it’s hard to justify returning.

Ate there last night with family and had the most amazing meal. Service was fast and courteous.

Good food, fair portioning and quick service. Had the beef kueh tow (easy recommendation) decent amount of beef, tender, and very saucey.

Food wasn't bad, but also wasn't very good. I stopped by last week on my way to Edinburgh from London. I thought the food was a little too pricey for what it offered. I thought it was a waste of my time not just because of the restaurant but also because of the city that honestly there is not much to see. If I go again in the future I wouldn't stop there again!

Went here after a recommendation from a friend, there was a group of 10 and food was excellent throughout, as was the service. Salt and Chilli prawns were made using huge prawns, cooked to perfection with a light batter and not greasy at all. The smoked chicken was amazing, the first time I have had this and will be back for more. Considering this was a Wednesday night, the place was still busy with all ages. Staff friendly and attentive throughout, kept the bees and food coming. Well done all, I will be back soon.

So overpriced we walked out. £7.30 for a roti cani in what is essentially a cafe!! There are many great places to eat in Newcastle that do not take the micky. Avoid.

Great food and great atmosphere

Best Pan Asian in Newcastle without a doubt. Go here a least once a month. We eat a lot and never broke the bank.

This used to my favourite restaurant in Newcastle due to the variety of dishes and the delicious flavours but the quality has gone way downhill. Noodles tasteless and not seasoned well, portions smaller and less vegetables used. How the prices can increase and the quality decrease so sharply I don’t know. Unfortunately I won’t be ordering from here anymore.

Well worth a visit whilst in Newcastle. An intensive menu of Asian and oriental dishes with some unique fusion. A must try the duck with mango salad and the spicy chicken starter. Delicious.

Love the food here, one of my favourite food places. The food seems authentic and isn’t washed down and made mild. I’ve started to try more things on the menu that 2 of my go to dishes love spicy food. The drinks could do with being fizzy though most of the drinks are flat. The food is fast to come out

Great food, extremely fast service. Went with a table of 9 on a busy week night and the food was amazing. We ordered a range of main dishes and sides including King po king prawn, salt and pepper chicken, soft noodles, egg fried rice and salt and pepper chips. The food was hot, prepared fast and service was polite and fast. The price is more on the steeper side, and they do charge. Service charge for tables of more than 8. Overall would go again!

Waited over an hour to get a table, then around 10 minutes to get seated, and shockingly around over 20 minutes for the staff to take our order. Came all the way from London to try this place as a local friend had recommended. The food was also not great. Will not recommend at all.

Ate here once at the restaurant and been hooked ever since. We usually get takeout and it arrives quickly and hot and it's fantastic every single time.

We went after hearing great things and we weren't disappointed. Food was amazing, just a shame that the one I found the nicest was my partners haha. There is so much to chose from. The staff were very nice. My only complaint would be that they brought 3 starters out and our son had to wait for his...pretty much until the mains were served. But! Hes still raving about the food so it's not put him off. We'll definitely be back.

Lovely food but let down by service on this occasion. We were 4 people dining on a Friday night. 3 meals came out and they had forgotten about the fourth meal. We had to reorder and had a long wait. Restaurant and online orders were no busier than other places on a Friday night. Also one person in the party had an allergy and we made it clear which meal was affected. The allergy ingredient was removed from another person's meal too. So let down a fair bit on this occasion. Service charge had been added on to our bill and we explained that we were not happy with our experience on this occasion so we wouldn't be paying this. To the contrary we would have expected a gesture of good will as it had been a stressful experience. They said that in December they add compulsory service charge to everyone's menu and so they in fact had given us a gesture of good will. We challenged this saying compulsory service charges are illegal unless stated first (menu says for parties of 8 or over). They backtracked on this later so this may have been a genuine mistake. Anyway explaining we weren't happy with our service was a stressful experience too. Some of the prices now are expensive so service should really be better. A small portion of rice is now almost £5. Interiors are drafty too so all our legs were cold. Staff are lovely actually. Food is tasty. Plenty of staff. But we had two significant mistakes in our order. Think there needs to be training making sure orders are correctly delivered between the waiting staff (a young woman in our case) and the kitchen. The young man behind the bar is very professional and a credit to the restaurant. The female manager behind the till didn't handle our situation very well and we left out meal feeling stressed and annoyed - unfortunately.

Extensive menu but not overwhelming as some can be. Friendly staff happy to explain the dishes on the menu. Drinks came quickly, as did the food which was generous, hot and delicious! Decor could be improved on with a bit of imagination. But once you have sampled the food you’ll soon want to return. We are looking forward to returning soon.

El pollo petardo hizo honor a su nombre y la boca poco a poco se calentó cada vez más y... se llevó un poco a casa para el té del día siguiente. Pedido rendsng curry - sabroso, pero de nuevo trajo un montón a casa con nosotros. El cebo era lo suficientemente decente, supongo que es ideal después de media docena de pintas. Pero 5 libras. ¿50 por una botella de ashai o cobra y 8 libras por una botella grande de cobra? Realmente...

Tasty food with a lot of great options! Wonton noodles was disappointing though!

Chilli Padi offers a delicious range of halal Pan-Asian dishes in a cozy, welcoming setting. The restaurant was very clean, and the staff—both the server and front-of-house—were friendly, attentive, and efficient. On our first visit, we tried the stir-fried noodles, salt and chili chips, spring rolls, and smoked chicken—all flavorful and satisfying. Portion sizes were generous, and prices were reasonable. With the endless menu options, I’d recommend looking at the menu before arriving to help with decisions. Overall, I highly recommend Chilli Padi and will definitely be returning. 4.5/5.

Fantastic service, food and atmosphere. Very reasonably priced

This was a brilliant place to eat, my partner and I came here for our lunch, we were both very excited to come and experience the restaurant. The food we got was great, it was a little while ago since we visited and I can't remember what I ordered but I will say it was spicy but very tasty! The staff were very helpful, and also made a point of asking if we were okay with spicy food, which was a nice touch I felt. Definitely would recommend this place to anybody. Well done!

Delicious food. When they say hot they mean it also massive portions

First time trying Malaysian food, honestly a bit disappointed. Not sure if it just wasn't for me however I generally love all Asian food. The ingredients weren't amazingly fresh tasting, the sauces were quite plain and the rice was not the nicest. The only thing that comes to mind is that it tastes similar to something coming out of a restaurant chain. On top of that we ended up spending £50 for two mains, two drinks and a side, many places in Newcastle for better value.

Los platos de arroz y otros acompañamientos tenían un precio ridículo de £ 5 , lo que hace que un plato principal tenga un sobreprecio. Tenía una Coca-Cola Dietética de la bomba que era acuosa y costaba £ 3. 80 para un tamaño mediano. No recomendaría.

More like a cafe than a restaurant, definitely book as many people were being turned away, this place is really popular. The food is gorgeous, we had Malaysian prawn curry and chicken satay. The servers are all really pleasant and hard working. Very chaotic at the entrance because of all the people hanging around for tables, we had to fight our way through them, maybe it would be better to have people queue outside at busy times?

While we waited, we were treated to complimentary veggie spring rolls with a sweet chili dipping sauce, which was a nice touch and delicious! Within about 10 minutes, our food started arriving, and everything exceeded expectations. The flavors were exceptional, and the dishes were both intriguing and tasty. Muy decepcionado escribiendo esto como se esperaba cosas buenas basadas en comentarios. Los entrantes de bola de pollo eran casi no comestibles, pollo graso masticable recubierto de masa. Tuve que devolver esto porque estaba frío y la carne estaba cruda en el medio. No me importa la carne rosada pero hacía frío, como si no hubiera visto una sartén. Pedí un plato diferente como nos habían dejado, carne de frijol negro. Después de unos 20 minutos lo conseguimos, pero el arroz que habíamos pedido estaba frío. Eventualmente decidí llevármela a casa para más tarde, pero al emplatar noté que la carne es como gelatina, de calidad realmente terrible. Imagina tu peor comida china. Esto fue todo para nosotros. Ninguno de los platos era bueno y no volveríamos. Además, el personal es muy amable.

Very delicious, although some food that is not spicy is a little spicy.

The food was delicious, and the staff was very friendly and helpful throughout our visit. There was a bit of a wait to get served initially, and it took a little longer than expected to receive water. However, the staff’s attentiveness and willingness to assist made up for the minor delays. Overall, a pleasant dining experience with great food and accommodating service.

We made a reservation at this restaurant and experienced only a minimal wait time, despite the restaurant being very busy. Our starters and drinks arrived without any issues, and the service initially was attentive, though it understandably slowed down later on due to the crowd. For our main courses, we ordered mee goreng, nasi goreng, and roti canai. While most dishes were enjoyable, the nasi goreng was somewhat disappointing, as it tasted primarily of tomato puree or sauce—quite different from any nasi goreng I’ve had before. I would consider returning to explore other dishes, though perhaps the restaurant could reconsider the recipe for this one.

I ordered a delivery tonight, first the food. I ordered the smoked chicken (without chilli) when it arrived it was covered in bird's-eye chilli and the chicken was so overcooked it was inedible. The prawn dumplings the prawn inside was nice but had to pull all of the dumpling off it as it was hard. The egg fried rice was beautiful. I was really gutted as this was really expensive for a takeaway. I rang up and was told to call uber eats even though there is no option to call them and uber didn't screw the food up. The food was also cold when it arrived, I was told I was his 4th delivery, he had collected my food an hour and a half before I received it. That's on uber eats though... Never again .. would not recommend

Food was left standing for an hour before being delivered by Uber eats. I could see that they were struggling to get an Uber driver and still let the order go out. Arrived stone cold, this is the coldest I’ve ever received a delivery. The restaurant should have done the decent thing and remade it.

Used to be good, not anymore. They changed actual prawns to prawn paste and chopped seafood for volume on dishes. Service is slow and they forget stuff

I love this place, I've been quite a few times and for me it can't be beaten for Thai style food in Newcastle, give it a go the food is amazing.

It's our first time trying Chilli Padi, and we went for nasi lemak, a signature Malaysian dish. The chicken is a 7 out of 10. It's perfectly seasoned and juicy, though not as crispy as a traditional nasi lemak compared to another restaurant in the area that serves it. The coconut rice serving is generous and perfectly cooked. The anchovies, however, are not crispy at all, which makes them the low point of the dish. The high point would be the sambal. A generous serving with amazing taste. We also ordered the prawns in chili. While that dish is well-flavored, the prawns are gummy and taste frozen, not allowing the spice to penetrate them properly. It's a bonus to see Milo Dinosaur on the drink menu, as we don't generally have Milo available.

As a Malaysian, the food is barely edible. The curry laksa is watery and barely have any taste. Service is not great.

I won't eat at this restaurant in the future. Not recommended either. Ordered takeout from this restaurant today. The takeout has plastic bags, and coconut rice has lids. When I am ready to eat, my friend asked me to share a photo and then he found a stapler needle on it. I can't imagine what would happen if I ate it directly. I called the restaurant immediately. The staff said it might be a delivery issue and asked me to contact the food delivery app because they don't have a driver to pick up or return the food. I don't think the courier would open so many layers of packaging and put needles on the rice, and there is no strong response to complaints on the delivery app.

The best restaurant with the best service! Staff is super helpful especially Xandy! The moment you walked in, you already feel like you are at home. Food is amazing! 10/10!

Visited for the first time ever today and I will be back. The menu was varied but not so vast it was overwhelming. There was a good selection of vegetarian options. Place was slightly busy but not rammed, staff were super friendly and fast getting us seated and served. Food came out quickly and was delicious. Thank you!

Food was absolutely amazing!! We got the smoked chicken and penang prawn noodles. Both were to die for and we even order a second portion of the smoked chicken it was that incredible. Service was also amazing and prompt, drinks were brought out very quick and waiting time for food was minimal. The staff were also lovely and gave great recommendations about what to get and were incredibly helpful and polite. Can't wait to be back!!

There are so many delicious sounding dishes on the menu that we found it hard to choose. Once we had finally decided, the food came astoundingly fast and was really tasty. The staff were polite, friendly and efficient. I'd definitely return to give more of their dishes a try.

Consistently good. I have tried a lot of the menu over the years and have had good experiences every time. Can’t go wrong with the Nasi Lemak. Malaysian lamb flank curry has always been my favourite here. The staff are warm and attentive.

Been here twice and the meat has let it down both times!! On my latest trip the beef was so chewy it was inedible Ruined my meal and the waitress was not interested really annoyed I had the smoked chicken which was hard (both mates had the same and said it was hard and chewy) this time and the Malaysian beef curry which was so chewy I couldn’t eat it just ate the potatoes Never again !!!

Came especially for this food from Sheffield after seeing so many good reviews. We ordered the salt and pepper king prawns and chips, mixed meat with fried noodles and the beef kueh teow. The chips came and were too spicy and the waitress did her best to make me another one but less chilli. The service was excellent and the food was amazing I have never ate anything so flavoursome and tasty. Will deffo come again

Firstly we are Chilli Padi addicts!!! But this was not of the standard expected. Can someone explain why when I ask for "everything together" ( that being simply, a bowl of soup,1 x spicy prawns,1x butter chicken, 1 x rice and noodles) it comes out firstly a single bowl of rice, then 5 minutes later my spicy prawns come out. We try them, find the rice cold and the prawns cool - so,we send it back. Then , the butter chicken appears- cool at best - it gets sent back. The only thing hot ,was the spicy soup!!! It all been sent back........... Eventually we are both eating the dishes we ordered at a respectable temperature. Hot Food!! Then,whilst still eating, a lass arrives asking if she can clear plates ,- that still had food on- unreal What's going on!!! During this episode ,we timed the placement of a single bowl of rice on a table of maybe 10 people. It was nearly 4 minutes before food starting arriving ,plate by plate. Was the rice hot when eaten? Well at £5 a bowl, it bloody well should be!! Then ,when paying for this meal for 2 people,the lass asked me if i wanted my " change" -which was nearly £14 !!! Are these people real? Suffice to say after that experience,I wanted every penny. Not the best experience,we will try elsewhere next time ..... ..

Had the Pattaya fried rice which is good. I wished the Chilli Pan Mee was actually handmade noodles. Chicken garnish tastes like Ginger & Onion chicken being stir fried, then added into the noodles.

First time trying this place since moving to Newcastle - wow, the food here is very close to being as good as the real thing in Malaysia, dare I say it, maybe even better? We ordered, Kung Po Chicken Bites, Tom Yum Soup, Salt and Chilli Chips & Firecracker Chicken with Jasmine Rice, everything was spot on! Full of flavour, juicy and just perfect, the soup was full of amazing flavours, sour, sweet and chilli, everything! Would highly recommend 100%

Came here for tea with a mate and my son. My son is quite a picky eater and didn’t like the dish the waiter suggested (I ended up eating the next day and it was delicious) and ordered plain fried rice. I ordered the beef flank curry and I have to say it was the best beef curry I’ve had in years. My mate ordered a selection of starters which he was very happy with. Staff here are really friendly and helpful.
