Tasty food with a lot of great options! Wonton noodles was disappointing though!

Chilli Padi offers a delicious range of halal Pan-Asian dishes in a cozy, welcoming setting. The restaurant was very clean, and the staff—both the server and front-of-house—were friendly, attentive, and efficient. On our first visit, we tried the stir-fried noodles, salt and chili chips, spring rolls, and smoked chicken—all flavorful and satisfying. Portion sizes were generous, and prices were reasonable. With the endless menu options, I’d recommend looking at the menu before arriving to help with decisions. Overall, I highly recommend Chilli Padi and will definitely be returning. 4.5/5.

Fantastic service, food and atmosphere. Very reasonably priced

This was a brilliant place to eat, my partner and I came here for our lunch, we were both very excited to come and experience the restaurant. The food we got was great, it was a little while ago since we visited and I can't remember what I ordered but I will say it was spicy but very tasty! The staff were very helpful, and also made a point of asking if we were okay with spicy food, which was a nice touch I felt. Definitely would recommend this place to anybody. Well done!

This used to by favourite restaurant in Newcastle due to the variety of dishes and the delicious flavours but the quality has gone way downhill. Noodles tasteless and not seasoned well, portions smaller and less vegetables used. How the prices can increase and the quality decrease so sharply I don’t know. Unfortunately I won’t be ordering from here anymore.

Delicious food. When they say hot they mean it also massive portions

First time trying Malaysian food, honestly a bit disappointed. Not sure if it just wasn't for me however I generally love all Asian food. The ingredients weren't amazingly fresh tasting, the sauces were quite plain and the rice was not the nicest. The only thing that comes to mind is that it tastes similar to something coming out of a restaurant chain. On top of that we ended up spending £50 for two mains, two drinks and a side, many places in Newcastle for better value.

Why oh why are the portions so big? Halve the portions and price will be a regular on takeaway. Can't fault the food.

More like a cafe than a restaurant, definitely book as many people were being turned away, this place is really popular. The food is gorgeous, we had Malaysian prawn curry and chicken satay. The servers are all really pleasant and hard working. Very chaotic at the entrance because of all the people hanging around for tables, we had to fight our way through them, maybe it would be better to have people queue outside at busy times?

When we first arrived, the restaurant was packed—unsurprisingly, given that it’s a unique spot with dishes you won’t find anywhere else. Despite the busy atmosphere, we only had a short wait before our table was ready. Once seated, we placed our order, and the staff reassured us that the food would be out quickly. While we waited, we were treated to complimentary veggie spring rolls with a sweet chili dipping sauce, which was a nice touch and delicious! Within about 10 minutes, our food started arriving, and everything exceeded expectations. The flavors were exceptional, and the dishes were both intriguing and tasty. My standout favorite, and the most popular dish, was the smoked chicken, though every item we tried was fantastic. Overall, it was a great experience, and I’ll definitely be coming back!

Very delicious, although some food that is not spicy is a little spicy.

We made a reservation at this restaurant and experienced only a minimal wait time, despite the restaurant being very busy. Our starters and drinks arrived without any issues, and the service initially was attentive, though it understandably slowed down later on due to the crowd. For our main courses, we ordered mee goreng, nasi goreng, and roti canai. While most dishes were enjoyable, the nasi goreng was somewhat disappointing, as it tasted primarily of tomato puree or sauce—quite different from any nasi goreng I’ve had before. I would consider returning to explore other dishes, though perhaps the restaurant could reconsider the recipe for this one.

The food was delicious, and the staff was very friendly and helpful throughout our visit. There was a bit of a wait to get served initially, and it took a little longer than expected to receive water. However, the staff’s attentiveness and willingness to assist made up for the minor delays. Overall, a pleasant dining experience with great food and accommodating service.

I ordered a delivery tonight, first the food. I ordered the smoked chicken (without chilli) when it arrived it was covered in bird's-eye chilli and the chicken was so overcooked it was inedible. The prawn dumplings the prawn inside was nice but had to pull all of the dumpling off it as it was hard. The egg fried rice was beautiful. I was really gutted as this was really expensive for a takeaway. I rang up and was told to call uber eats even though there is no option to call them and uber didn't screw the food up. The food was also cold when it arrived, I was told I was his 4th delivery, he had collected my food an hour and a half before I received it. That's on uber eats though... Never again .. would not recommend

Food was left standing for an hour before being delivered by Uber eats. I could see that they were struggling to get an Uber driver and still let the order go out. Arrived stone cold, this is the coldest I’ve ever received a delivery. The restaurant should have done the decent thing and remade it.

Used to be good, not anymore. They changed actual prawns to prawn paste and chopped seafood for volume on dishes. Service is slow and they forget stuff

I love this place, I've been quite a few times and for me it can't be beaten for Thai style food in Newcastle, give it a go the food is amazing.

It's our first time trying Chilli Padi, and we went for nasi lemak, a signature Malaysian dish. The chicken is a 7 out of 10. It's perfectly seasoned and juicy, though not as crispy as a traditional nasi lemak compared to another restaurant in the area that serves it. The coconut rice serving is generous and perfectly cooked. The anchovies, however, are not crispy at all, which makes them the low point of the dish. The high point would be the sambal. A generous serving with amazing taste. We also ordered the prawns in chili. While that dish is well-flavored, the prawns are gummy and taste frozen, not allowing the spice to penetrate them properly. It's a bonus to see Milo Dinosaur on the drink menu, as we don't generally have Milo available.

As a Malaysian, the food is barely edible. The curry laksa is watery and barely have any taste. Service is not great.

One of the top 10 restaurants in Newcastle without doubt is Chilli Padi. They serve a very large verity of Asian cuisine.

I won't eat at this restaurant in the future. Not recommended either. Ordered takeout from this restaurant today. The takeout has plastic bags, and coconut rice has lids. When I am ready to eat, my friend asked me to share a photo and then he found a stapler needle on it. I can't imagine what would happen if I ate it directly. I called the restaurant immediately. The staff said it might be a delivery issue and asked me to contact the food delivery app because they don't have a driver to pick up or return the food. I don't think the courier would open so many layers of packaging and put needles on the rice, and there is no strong response to complaints on the delivery app.

The food was good and the serving size is great 👍🏽

We ordered through Uber eats, the delivery meal was not good value at all, full of chilli and no flavor, portions were small, certainly not worth £13.99 a meal!!

Good food. Reasonable prices. Super fast service. Wid variety of food. Parking available in the nearby Leazers lane car park and it’s free after 7 pm . Recommended.

Visited for the first time ever today and I will be back. The menu was varied but not so vast it was overwhelming. There was a good selection of vegetarian options. Place was slightly busy but not rammed, staff were super friendly and fast getting us seated and served. Food came out quickly and was delicious. Thank you!

Dry ban mian was perfect! Milo dinosaur is was reminiscent of Singapore.

Food was absolutely amazing!! We got the smoked chicken and penang prawn noodles. Both were to die for and we even order a second portion of the smoked chicken it was that incredible. Service was also amazing and prompt, drinks were brought out very quick and waiting time for food was minimal. The staff were also lovely and gave great recommendations about what to get and were incredibly helpful and polite. Can't wait to be back!!

There are so many delicious sounding dishes on the menu that we found it hard to choose. Once we had finally decided, the food came astoundingly fast and was really tasty. The staff were polite, friendly and efficient. I'd definitely return to give more of their dishes a try.

Consistently good. I have tried a lot of the menu over the years and have had good experiences every time. Can’t go wrong with the Nasi Lemak. Malaysian lamb flank curry has always been my favourite here. The staff are warm and attentive.

Been here twice and the meat has let it down both times!! On my latest trip the beef was so chewy it was inedible Ruined my meal and the waitress was not interested really annoyed I had the smoked chicken which was hard (both mates had the same and said it was hard and chewy) this time and the Malaysian beef curry which was so chewy I couldn’t eat it just ate the potatoes Never again !!!

Came especially for this food from Sheffield after seeing so many good reviews. We ordered the salt and pepper king prawns and chips, mixed meat with fried noodles and the beef kueh teow. The chips came and were too spicy and the waitress did her best to make me another one but less chilli. The service was excellent and the food was amazing I have never ate anything so flavoursome and tasty. Will deffo come again

Firstly we are Chilli Padi addicts!!! But this was not of the standard expected. Can someone explain why when I ask for "everything together" ( that being simply, a bowl of soup,1 x spicy prawns,1x butter chicken, 1 x rice and noodles) it comes out firstly a single bowl of rice, then 5 minutes later my spicy prawns come out. We try them, find the rice cold and the prawns cool - so,we send it back. Then , the butter chicken appears- cool at best - it gets sent back. The only thing hot ,was the spicy soup!!! It all been sent back........... Eventually we are both eating the dishes we ordered at a respectable temperature. Hot Food!! Then,whilst still eating, a lass arrives asking if she can clear plates ,- that still had food on- unreal What's going on!!! During this episode ,we timed the placement of a single bowl of rice on a table of maybe 10 people. It was nearly 4 minutes before food starting arriving ,plate by plate. Was the rice hot when eaten? Well at £5 a bowl, it bloody well should be!! Then ,when paying for this meal for 2 people,the lass asked me if i wanted my " change" -which was nearly £14 !!! Are these people real? Suffice to say after that experience,I wanted every penny. Not the best experience,we will try elsewhere next time ..... ..

Had the Pattaya fried rice which is good. I wished the Chilli Pan Mee was actually handmade noodles. Chicken garnish tastes like Ginger & Onion chicken being stir fried, then added into the noodles.

First time trying this place since moving to Newcastle - wow, the food here is very close to being as good as the real thing in Malaysia, dare I say it, maybe even better? We ordered, Kung Po Chicken Bites, Tom Yum Soup, Salt and Chilli Chips & Firecracker Chicken with Jasmine Rice, everything was spot on! Full of flavour, juicy and just perfect, the soup was full of amazing flavours, sour, sweet and chilli, everything! Would highly recommend 100%

What can I say except it is the best restaurant I've ever been to. Their Stir Fry Beef Kueh Teow is purely amazing. I go there each time I come to Newcastle and it just never misses. Please Chilli Padi, open a restaurant in France and I'll be your first most loyal client. Never close!! I just come to Newcastle to eat at this fabulous place. I love you Chilli Padi <3

Came here for tea with a mate and my son. My son is quite a picky eater and didn’t like the dish the waiter suggested (I ended up eating the next day and it was delicious) and ordered plain fried rice. I ordered the beef flank curry and I have to say it was the best beef curry I’ve had in years. My mate ordered a selection of starters which he was very happy with. Staff here are really friendly and helpful.

Lovely service, very friendly staff and the food really was amazing. First time here and the large Smoked Chicken was probably the nicest meal I've had all year. The sweet sticky sauce with the ever so slightly crispy chicken along with spring onions was so nice. If only I knew how to make it. I'll certainly be back!

What a treat this place is! We ordered smoked chicken which was *chefs kiss* DELICIOUS! it’s sticky, sweet & full of flavour! King po chicken is saucy, tangy & so crispy on the outside & soft on the inside! Chicken Gyoza’s are a firm fave. We ordered the pan friend Malaysian fish noodles from the specials menu and it was all absolutely outstanding! The service was stunning too! The nicest waiting staff I have ever had the pleasure of dealing with! All round 10/10 Highly recommended!

The curry chicken rice is very delicious and the food quality is quite good.

I'm in Newcastle for a few weeks but this store is pretty great. Had the Chili Ban Mian (Pan Mian), its a pretty good balance between a little spicy from the chili paste while the onions and anchovies add a bit of texture to the noodles. It is pretty expensive if you come from other countries considering the exchange rates (applies to all places in the UK) but it has a pretty massive portion and is definitely is a place to try at least once.

The food might be good but the professionalism is below zero. Ordered food on 13/07 at 7pm with estimated delivery around 20:25. Got the food at 21:38. Called the place 3 times to hear different excuses. First time saying the driver was doing some deliveries first, second time it was leaving the restaurant (so not with the driver) and third time "we do not know where your order is". All I got was empty "sorry we are too busy" but if you are unable to do the requests then you should not take it in first place. And nothing, nothing except a terrible management can justify 2h35 to deliver an order.

Chilli Padi have a huge menu with a variety of dishes to choose from. Each dish with its own bursting flavour. The portion sizes are huge and worth the spend. Will definitely be coming back to try some of their other dishes.

We were lucky to get a table as it was pretty busy. So, it’s probably best to book in advance. The place looked pretty basic, but the staff were friendly and efficient, plus the food was fantastic. There were lots of vegetarian options (far more than most restaurants, so I was overwhelmed having choices). We had to ask for chopsticks as there were only knives and forks on our table, but a staff member was immediately over with some. I liked that the straws were edible, they were made from rice and more durable than paper straws. It didn’t take long for our order (the starter came out at the same time as the main course). The portions were big, full of flavour and really tasty. I’d highly recommend and will definitely return in the near future.

First time here, lovely food and a good atmosphere, beer and wine selection was ok and card payment taken so I can only assume some reviews are quite old 🤷‍♂️ I had Seafood Tom Yum soup , which was a huge bowl of very tasty liquid, a thoroughly pleasant experience!!

Roti canai was quite salty so didnt really enjoy it much but everything else was SO tasty for starters had satay chicken skewers and mains was a seafood noodle - extremely delicious and really tasty Bit of a shame they dont do any malaysian / south eastern asian desserts - would have really topped this place off to offer anything of the sort as I was really hoping I could try a malaysian dessert Extremely wide range menu for main course and starters though so highly recommend Service was quick and food came very quickly too

I love the restaurant because the food is good and thr staffs are friendly.

Do not got to this if you’re a person of colour or black. The instant we walked in the staff were unfriendly, they took the order of the table next us that arrived after us despite being obviously ready to order. Staff took ages to come and to our order, despite not being that busy. Their tone with us was very blunt in comparison to a warm/bubbly to a fully white customers. We bagged up our own leftovers, despite every other table getting their leftovers bagged up.

Found this place on recommendation of a friend. So glad we went! Food was fabulous, spicy, but not too much, large portions with enough to take home. Stars off were for having to go find the waiter to take our order and the time it took (after reminding them) to get the drinks to us. The food however was quick to show up and tasted so good! Little pricey overall, but then where isn't these days. Went on a Thursday evening and had booked online, but there were still a few tables available.

We were disappointed with Nasi Lemak, no taste of coconut in the rice, soggy anchovies, tasteless and cold fried chicken.

Found this restaurant by chance when visiting Newcastle and I must say it’s one of the best I’ve tried! I ordered a nasi lemak and it tasted exactly like the one I had when I was in Malaysia. Staff were very lovely and helpful, the place was very clean and neat. Food waiting time isn’t long. Portions are pretty big so you get a lot for what you pay for. The only minor downside is the choice of music in the background! Doesn’t go with the restaurant 😅

I ordered their classic nasi lemak. Superb meal and the price was so reasonable (cause you can see the portion of it in the pic here). Will come back again for it!

The rendang was full of fat on the meat. Other than that the rest of our meal was very nice especially the roti and curry.

Terrible service for my German guests. They were herded like cattle within minutes of being served cold food. Both are medical students and were shocked by the behaviour of the staff. This was at 7.30 pm when they were kicked out unceremoniously

Good place to try new food. The only problem I had was that, some of the dishes were very sweet. Not something I personally prefer with spicy stuff. But overall I loved the place!

My dish was so spicy that it wasn't edible! My spice tolerance is very very high. The waitress said that the dish wasn't spicy, so I asked for it to be made hot. When I complained that even the chef wouldn't be able to eat this, I was told that they have an extremely hot chilli paste and the chef hasn't reduced the amount used. No exchange or refund for the meal!

The service was excellent, and the dishes were served very quickly. However, the Thai rice noodles were overcooked and tasted bitter. The Korean seafood pancake only contained eggs and seafood, suggesting that the chef may have forgotten to add flour. We specifically chose this restaurant after Googling reviews, so it was quite disappointing for us. Overall, it was a disappointing dinner. The service was great and the food came out very quickly. However, the Thai rice noodles were overcooked and bitter. Korean seafood pancakes are just eggs and seafood, and the chef probably forgot to add flour. I have a food intolerance. They were more than happy to check and remove a source that I couldn't have. Food is always really tasty. Big thumbs up for me.

We have been the biggest fans of Chilli Padi since we first started going to their old premises almost 10 years ago. We have always been their biggest fans - takeaways during Covid, always visiting in town for lunch/ tea etc but we were disappointed in recent visit. It is so much more expensive than it was, I understand everything has gone up in price but it was almost £18 for some mains and they just didn’t deliver on taste. Mango chicken wasn’t as tasty as it used to be, firecracker chicken was a small portion for the price and lacked oomph. Kids loved the noodles but me and husband came away feeling robbed. We had no alcohol and food was just mediocre yet we had expensive bill. Please return to previous quality and we’ll be back!

Love this place and once again didn't disappoint for a dinner catchup with a mate. Luckily we did have a booking as was quite busy on a Friday evening. Super fast service and in spite of how crowded it was we managed to have a chill catch up and once it quietened down after abt 9pm we stayed on to slowly finish our food (it was a lot with their big portions and authentic Malaysian dishes) over a few great Asian beers 🍻

Food quality is good but way too spicy or I could say unnecessarily made spicy hot. In one of the dish we ordered there were more number of dry red chillies than the meat pieces! Drinks were expensive. No choice for nibbles, your only option is to order starters! Waiters were inattentive and overall it looked like they were not bothered if you were there or not.

Ordered takeaway for the first time from here. Got Hokkien fried rice and the Dry Pad Mian. Absolutely delicious. Best takeaway in a long time. Looking forward to ordering again and hopefully visiting to work our way though the rest of the menu.

Went in for dinner on a Monday evening. The food was good and would highly recommend but took a long time to arrive and our waiter was inattentive and unfriendly. Drinks we asked for never arrived despite asking if they were on their way.

The best Malaysian food outside of Malaysia!!!

Honestly don't get the hype about this place. We've been two times and both times our experience has been consistently bad. After a very disappointing first time, we decided to give it a go again thinking it was just one off day. We ordered the smoked chicken dish which everyone raves about and to be honest can't understand the craze. Our chicken was dry, tough, hard to chew and tasted like it was dunked it syrup! It was like having chicken for pudding!! The other half ordered Nasi Lemak which definitely didn't taste fresh, the chicken was tough and dry like it's been microwaved to death!! Very disappointing considering the price! All the other dishes we ordered had a common theme, an overload of salt, sugar and probably MSGs! We also ordered jasmine rice only to br served plaim rice but charged for jasmine,which is more expensive. If you enjoy freshly made authentic Malaysian food with quality ingredients, do yourself a favour don't spend your time and money here. Don't be.fooled by the good reviews, it has a cult following mostly made possible by so called local 'influencers' marketing this place in return for free food. If your palate enjoys salty, processed food full of additives then this is the place to be!

What a brilliant find the food service atmosphere was brilliant what a great place to eat would highly recommend this restaurant. Don't hesitate booking really nice restaurant. 5*****.

Great menu, excellent service, but on a cold night it was a bit draughty - particularly when the takeaway delivery guys kept leaving the door open!

We wanted some food after being at the Newcastle game, with the town being super busy and everyone piling out at the same time, we weren't sure we'd get in anywhere, passed Chilli Padi which I've been dying to try out for ages and I thought we'd see if they could fit the two of us in! They were very busy, with booking for eating in and takeaways, but within 10 minutes we had a seat, we'd been looking at the menu whole waiting so ordered pretty quick, we went for the Smoked Chicken (which was what I'd been wanting to try from reviews I'd seen), Sweet and sour chicken, soft noodles and salt and chilli chips. The amount of food was unreal, but it certainly wasn't quantity over quality because everything was super tasty, full of flavour and very quick coming out, the Smoked chicken was perfectly cooked and not too spicy, the sweet and sour was steaming hot and well, exactly what you'd want from a sweet and sour, the best I've had actually. The sides we'd ordered, the soft noodles, were great and I loved the fact there was plenty of veg in them, salt and chilli chips were also beautiful! We couldn't get through all of the food with it just being the two of us, but I didn't want to stop eating, we brought 4 cartons of food home which will be a very enjoyable lunch for the following day! The pricing for the amount of food is really good and actually for what we ordered, I think you could have fed a family of 4, cant wait to go back

I shouldn't put too much expectation upon this trip. 1. Rendang flank is quite far from tender, and the rendang paste just lack that kinda flavour. 2. Should never mix up "satay chicken" with "chicken skewer with satay sauce", my bad. 3. Luckily, the pan fried french beans in spicy sauce is superb. Staffs are friendly though. Will definitely come back again when others not open.

Authentic and great quality. It is hard to find restaurants that serve authentic tastes to far East Asian food rather than a modified westernised recipe with too much sauce or sugar. Chilli Padi did it just right. Such a gem, I'm so glad my friend brought me here. The Laksa chicken noodles were sooooo good. Spicy enough to make me ask for extra water but friendly enough for my friend to help herself for more servings. Reasonable prices too. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone who wants to try real far East Asian food in Newcastle. Interior is clean, modern and decorated with a cute graffiti counter. Update: since my first visit, I've come here plenty of times for catching up with friends and even for a date. :P🌹 They do takeaways and deliveries too!

As a Malaysian, food was average and nothing to boast about. Service was good but I have been to this restaurant 3 separate times, and I haven't been fully satisfied the past 3 times. Ordered the beef rendang but it wasn't very flavourful. Nasi Lemak, the chicken was dry. Roti Canai was good.
