Chico's in York

Arrived in York late in the evening and needed something to eat. Chicos was still open and fish and chips is always a good option. We opted for the chicken kebab each with a couple portions of chips. No one finished the meal. The kebab was not a kebab - the chunks of chicken were poor imitations of nuggets in some nondescript sauce, the tortilla wrap was stale and inedible, and the chips were dull and boring. We all agreed that hunger would’ve been the better option and much better value for money.

Spend over £40 pound to not get our burger we order which was around £7 and then to order no red cabbage as I have a reaction to receive red cabbage, it was not busy and such a shame as staff was very polite,and we got recommended to go we will not be returning

kebab without flavour and came with a lot of tasteless red cabbage. I like red cabbage, but didn’t like this red cabbage. The kebab was on wrap bread. It came with what seemed like plain yogurt out of a pot. The chicken burger didn’t come with fries and had to be bought separately, which if they were good might be worth it it, but they were stale. No one liked the food and none of us finished the three different meals we got. We all tossed about half our meals, which was especially unfortunate because it was on the more expensive side for what it was. We were all disappointed.

Great food highly recommend after a good night

My husband and I recently visited Chicos after a day out in York. We both had sausage and chips and they where very nice and piping hot. The lad who served us was lovely too.

The food was plain DISGUSTING. The bread was dry and the chicken tasted stale. The guy behind the counter loads the fries from some tray instead of making them fresh and they taste like they were made a month ago. It was unfortunate that this was the only place open for takeaway during Christmas day. It was a waste of good money on a dinner disaster.

The crazy expensive food was horrid and bland. Nothing in the burger except the chicken and the fries were awful. DO NOT EAT HERE IF YOU’RE STUCK ON CHRISTMAS DAY

Worst kebab ever, meat was hard and stale, wrap was like thin cardboard, Asked if I want garlic sauce yet forgot to give it to me. Gave us a pot of gravy which turned out to be a pot of stone cold jelly all served by the most miserable women in York for an extortionate cost. If I could be arsed I’d have bagged it all up and thrown it back at them.

horrible food, horrible people. got the food wrong asked a question, ignored, asked again said “in bag” which didnt answer my question of “ does the fish have salt on it”

I'm not even sure if the burger was made of meat or not, chicos needs a freddy fazbear, in all honesty this place needs shutting down

the food is decent but the bouncer is totally out of order. I was waiting for my food on a table and he told me to move (I am an 18 year old girl who was waiting for her friends and my food) and said you can’t reserve seats, and I must move. Upon trying to explain he got irate and made me feel incredibly uncomfortable and upset as a teenage girl by myself. After speaking to other students I realised this hasn’t been a stand alone occassion and there’s a reason this “bouncer” can’t get a job in any of the clubs.

Randomly came across this kebab chippy and glad we did! The battered fish was really good, the batter was cooked perfectly as were the chips and the pizza was delicious perfect bread to sauce to cheese ratio. Thank you Aaron 😊

Lovely fresh food, best takeaway I’ve had in ages cooked fresh big portions, I think the bad reviews come from the 2am club kick people if you arrive before then everything is cooked fresh and delicious

Apart from the savoly which is better than some places but nothing to write home about. The pizza is pretty bland and 8.50 for a barely medium piece of fish that looked like mostly batter anyways.

Avoid this place unless you have won the lottery. Ridiculous price, they are having your pants down! £13 for chicken and chips. £4 chips and curry and a ridiculously small portion. Also have a angry bouncer shouting peoples order out which his tone wasn’t need for a quite Friday evening. Donner meat looked horrendous.

I can without a doubt say that this was the single worst kebab food I have ever had. The donner meat was incredibly dry, chilli sauce was awful and very tomato flavoured (like passata with a bit of chilli sauce thrown in). Pie and chips weren’t great as there was so sauce/gravy option making them very dry. I would definitely go elsewhere next time.

Just your average takeaway but with a slight increase in price due to location. Portion size was stingy but not a massive complaint as the kebab was bland anyway. The pizza was really nice however. Probably wouldn’t bother again

It was so awkward environment and I had the biggest dookie after it as the food is not kind to my tender stomach and the menu was as limited as my love life

Their pizza is quite good, but in my opinion they treat women horribly. I ordered a pizza and 10 minutes later they were very aggressive to me, and made me leave.

Asked for cod but I can assure you it was not Fish was dripping in oil had to use napkins to get it edible chips were ok pie ok would I go again No!!

Stopped by after a few drinks with friends after work. Ended up getting donner meat and chips. Donner meat was cold and wasn’t too impressed by the chips. Only ate half of it and afterwards was sat on the toilet for an hour afterwards. Nearly ruined my pants so thanks for that. Definitely wont be going back unless the place is taken over.

The place to go if your starting or ending a night out. Simple fayre. Sausage, gravy and chips on a tray sat at the table while recovering 👍

Called in for some late-night food - ordered 2 chip butties. The chips were ok but the bread roll was that dry it just broke into crumbs - very very stale. Ate the chips and left the rest. Expensive at £3.50 per chip butty!! Find somewhere else to eat is my recommendation!!

We decided to have the night in our hotel rather than eat out, this place is within 30 seconds walking distance, we seen the prices were expensive but we thought the food must be nice and good portions. Boy were we wrong, we paid £9.50 for donner meat and chips (£4.50 back home), I have attached a picture of the donner meat and chips, donner meat was just tasteless and greasy donner meat shavings, tiny little bits wafer thin cut off. Tiny salad on top, instead of chili and garlic I asked for both garlic but only gave us one and that was the nicest part of the meal. Chips were thick chip shop chips but were swimming in grease so all you could taste is overused cooking oil, this is probablies what made the donner meat so greasy. We also ordered a 11 inch pizza that cost £13, lucky if the pizza was 10 inch, felt like they had rationed the tomato base as there was hardlys any, pizza was pretty much tastless too, my partner ate half a slice, only ate my share because I was starving. Whilst in there we observed a man ask for something that is already cooked as he did not have time to wait, he was suggest fish, said fish was £8, he asked for a splash of chili on it and I was shocked when he was charged £1 for a little bit chili sauce, he also asked for a pop and was charged £1.50, I said to my partner £1.50 was not bad for a 500ml of pop in a takeaway but it was only for a 330ml can, 500 ml was £2.50, outrages prices when their is a sainsburys over the road. On top of this the atmosphere in the shop was miserable, all of the posters on the wall saying how good the staff and food is that have been made by customers must of been off a long time ago. I would avoid this place unless you like dissapointment. If your having a night in and fancy good quality food I would tqke advantage of deliveroo, has tonnes of restaurants on there and lots with only £1 or free delivery.

Finally got into Mowgli's, what a great experience all the dishes are well spiced. We had the lamb chop starter with fries, this was the best dish for me. The Dahl, lamb curry and Goan fish curry were all nice, chappatis had to be sent back as they came out cold, next set were just warmed. Starter steal the show for me.

Absolutely rank, this food is only suitable if you have been on the drink all day and need food and there is a chance you will yack up 5 minutes later. I ordered chips and battered sausage, chips were awful the sausage wouldn't have looked out of place in an anemic convention. Don't bother save ya money and get a tescos meal deal

Have eaten here several times when visiting York, but I don’t remember prices being so expensive before, prices reflecting a decent restaurant but this is a chippy. Don’t get me wrong the fish and chips were good but £12 is taking the p evening during these hard times. Place used to be packed but should have realised something was wrong as we were the only people in there. Please drop your prices to reflect value for money, your food is good but not worth restaurant prices

wouldnt recomend going to chicos fish &chip restraunt at all food i had chips fish & musy peas the fish was not done propley it was greasy the chips were very greasy and the musy peas werent hot they were stone cold and the london pizza was also like rubber and not cooked propley and the tables werent straight all of the tables were slanted to oneside and their was paper napkins and rubbish all over the floor and on that same night when i got back to the premier inn hotel that i was staying at i was bad all night with a upset stomach and it wasnt nice and the staff who works in chicos restaraunt should be sacked and out off a job

Day light robbery!! Garlic bread was hard, cheesy chips were disgusting. The prices are high and they charge extra for sauce!! In a convenient place but ruined my night out 🤮👎🏻

One fish and chips in a take away tray cost £12.99 yes you heard that correctly £12.99!!! No comparison to Rick Stein’s in Padstow which were cheaper! We only ordered as we were starving and don’t know the area. We shared it 😣 I gave the food 4/10 as they were stingy with the chip portion

Most expensive terrible food ever. 1 mixed kebab was £16 and consisted of only chicken and donner in a measly cold wrap. Very salty and bland. An 11” meat feast pizza, £13 which was like chewing on a piece of cardboard absolutely dry and dreadful with hardly any cheese on. Very miserable and rude lady serving. Definitely won’t be returning no matter how drunk I get.

Charged 14.00 for a doner kebab and garlic sauce instead of just 6.00. Quite clearly because I was very drunk. This place will Rob you if you are intoxicated. On this rare occasion I was photographed by a friend just leaving the shop to go back to the hotel and this is all I have. Then following morning I had the box near me as I stayed along the road at the ibis ...... Very untrustworthy establishment.🤬🤬🤬

Opened and started to eat the "chicken ".Tasted funny,smelt funny ,looked dodgy.Dogsh*t.Definately off.Binned it, and put it down to bad experience,first time in York.Ate the chips,dipped them in the" chilli",which was basically tinned tomatoes with chilli powder in.Place should be shut down.

Chicos provides a service and food fit for all the Kings, Queens and slimes out there. My drunken self always appreciates and eats these chips as if it will be my last meal.

Chicken didn’t taste right had no flavour very bland. Tasted as all been cooked in a different oil, just a wrap and no pitta bread even mushy peas watered down. No added fried onions or veg with kebabs. Food not very warm. A very expensive meal for 6!

Tried 3 meals here within 24 hours. Yes, a messy stag weekend at the races. I have to say, food was pretty decent. The chips were VERY VERY HOT. On 2 occasions. Really, be careful with the chips.

Today I went to get my food from Chico’s and was absolutely mortified at their customer service skills. Firstly, I was spoken horribly by the person at the cashier, then once my order was taken wrong, they took another 30 minutes to redo my pizza...

Dry and bland burger. Chucked half of it in the bin. Ordered a chilli burger which had no chilli sauce in, when I asked that was an extra £1?! Rude service

We tried to pay with a paper £20 note, the staff tried to charge us £3 extra as they need to exchange paper notes to the new £20 note. They thought we were drunk and took advantage. I eventually paid on card. Rude, took advantage, quite expensive. Kebab was good.

Ordered a London pizza, was quite expensive and badly burnt. Had pizzas from there before and have been quite nice but this was terrible.

Ordered 2 chicken kebabs one evening which were rather greasy and nothing special. The food here is the most expensive I have seen in a takeaway. Admittedly you can dine indoors at no extra cost but I wasn’t impressed by this place.

Very good chicken shish. Freshly cooked , kebabs are not normally healthy but this was with flatbread rather than Pitta and loaded with chicken

Called at Chico Time after a night out, what a mistake!After ordering a kebab of the old scouring woman behind the counter I was legally robbed of my money.It felt like I’d just been entered dry!The so called kebab was served on a wrap, not your traditional pitta, if Abdul from my local had seen this he would have probably gone home to get his rucksack.Anyway getting back to the so called kebab, what a load of crap with a big dollop of what looks like garlic mayo, but could of been any kind of discharge.Won’t be going again.
