Chicken & Rum Shack in Cornwall, Isles of Scilly

Recently visited Chicken and Rum Shack and a bit disapointed, we had the roasted chicken for 2. The chicken was good but the sides a little dry and over seasonsed. My daughter had the pieces of 8 single portion and it was huge loads of iceland chicken. On the positive the staff were friendly and its realtilvly cheap.

The wife and I had the '8' sharing platter. WOW... so many chicken strips and popcorn chicken. Yes, I don't believe it was homemade but the chicken was nevertheless delightful and cooked well. Wasn't over done or tough like strips can be. We couldn't finish it all. We changed our fries to dirty pig fries... AWESOME. The pulled pork was delightful and so tasty. Now onto the main event... the RUM. What a menu. We made our way through around 8 different rums. A majority local to Cornwall and not your generic rums available in the supermarket although the fo also stock a good variety of dead man's fingers and twin fin. An around a great place to eat and drink.

We visited this place while staying in Bude, if I’d not have searched for restaurants on the internet I’d probably never have noticed this great little restaurant. We rang and booked an hour before we went and got a table. The menu is so good, such a brilliant range of food we were spoilt for choice. The theme was fun, sea/pirate themed, great for the kids my daughter is 16 and said the spicy fries were excellent and believe me she knows her fries!! There were younger kids in there enjoying the little play kitchen. The fact we could eat here with our dog was just brilliant. I had half a chicken, a cocktail and a red wine and the food was fresh, tasty and exciting. If you’re reading this because you’re debating on whether to go, give it try you won’t be disappointed. Staff were friendly attentive and faultless.

We visited 3 times whilst on holiday in Bude, could not find fault. The pizza & chorizo my son loved, My daughter & I had the tandoori chicken skewers we paid the extra to upgrade to two they were beautiful. My husband had the half bird once again, beautifully cooked. Staff & service perfect & a lovely little play area that our Grandson thoroughly enjoyed inside where we could keep an eye on him. I would highly recommend this place & we are fussy eaters.

Great atmosphere, decor and lovely food. The waitresses were nice. There’s a little play area for kids which was great towards the end for my little one to keep busy while we finished up our food and drinks! We ended up having a right laugh at all the costumes he came out wearing!

I had a Jerk curry and rice, what I expected was marinated chicken and rice and peas with maybe a creamy jerk sauce, what I got was chicken thigh chunks in whst tasted like a tasteless Tesco own jerk sauce jar, I have honestly had better microwave meals. Chicken wings, perhaps expecting grilled chicken wings a chicken resturaunt was too much to ask. I have bought the same chicken wings in lidl before "lidls own rotisserie chicken wings £3.99, just stay at home and save some money! The only good thing that came was the loaded chips and rum and coke. I am unlikely to go again but if I did, it would be for the alcohol and maybe once drunk out of my skull I'd order the chips ! People were nice, but I wasn't there for the people... just saying.

We were really impressed by the Chicken and Rum Shack, with them providing a friendly service and great quality food. We enjoyed the sharer platter of chicken, featuring breaded, southern fried, chilli and popcorn chicken and chips. It was a well-flavoured feast of food and was at a very reasonable price for the amount of chicken on the platter. There was a great selection of rums on offer too and the cocktail I enjoyed was great. The decor was unique and the restaurant had a nice atmosphere, despite it being relatively quiet for a friday evening. The staff were very friendly and attentive throughout the service, including being very aware and accommodating of the allergies on the table.

Recently visited this restaurant whilst on holiday in Bude. Met by a very polite and cheerful waitress who quickly showed us to a table decor very thoughtfully thought out and themed . We chose the nachos to share starter amazing great value for money large tasteful and well presented . We both had the southern fried chicken burger again, large tasty and well presented. I would definitely recommend this restaurant. .

We visited on a sat night & as others have said, the decor is pirate themed, but it somehow lacked atmosphere! The staff were welcoming and kids menu offers variety! Rum cocktails worth a try, reasonably priced and nice. However the food was just a little dry and bland, the wrap filling just had something missing, adding cheese that hadnt melted didnt really work and burger was also dry. Could be better!

Read some of the bad reviews and wasn't sure whether to book but who doesn't love chicken and rum. Great selection of rum and food was tasty. Will definitely come again

Whilst lacking in atmosphere due to lack of patrons! , could not fault the funky decor or the food , good value for money and decent service.

avoid this place . spent over a 100 pound for 4 people . only to be sick and not well over night . selling iceland/ farmfoods, frozen food not worth the money . ordered the chicken wings to come to the table at 10000 degrees what tells they was microwave and had to wait for them to cool down and they they was like rubber. i had the chicken fillet burger. again not fresh!bun dry/ chicken dry/ it's was a birdseye chciken fillet four for £2.50 in iceland . the southen fried chicken was the farm foods bucket and not nice . such a shame could be a lovely place just need to use fresh chicken and bit of effort. sum it up 100 quid for frozen food over cooked and over priced . fries was nice but what idiot can.mess up fries

lovely atmosphere, helpful and friendly staff, extremely nice food. We visited the restaurant twice during our stay, as the kids loved the food that much.

A lovely hidden Jewell close to Crooklets Beach. Decor, food, drinks and service excellent! Would thoroughly recommend, we were pleasantly surprised with the food and the restaurant and the staff were lovely! Recommended as the family run the pub next door. Well worth a visit and we will be back on our next trip to Bude!

Casual dining with a nice nautical/pirate theme. Food was well cooked and great service. Well priced. Huge rum menu.

Great relaxed atmosphere and yummy food. Cocktails were nice too! A few toys and dressing up bits for children really helped keep them amused whilst waiting for our food.

We were at restaurant early in the evening so not sure if that was part of the issue but upon entering there was no atmosphere. The music playing wasn't at all in keeping with the theme- in fact let it go at one point played but it mostly modern dirge. Cocktails were extremely disappointing just juice basically - a rum restaurant without mai tais or daiquiris..... When the food arrived it was clear the majority is frozen food you can buy in the supermarket - I'd say only the marinated chicken is made in house. It all tasted fine but for the price not worth it. We didn't have dessert as again it was clear it wasn't "home made".

We stumbled across this place while looking for somewhere to eat near Crooklets. The food was great, portions were excellent and everything was really tasty and good quality. Service was friendly and the food came quite quickly. Would return.

Like I said OMG! We’d waited till the last night of our holiday to dine here! Gutted that we did, because if we’d known how good it was going to be we’d have dined there every night! The decor is fresh and clean. Some interesting murals and pictures on the walls. Fish tanks for the kiddies to look into, they’ve even got a little dressing up area for the little ones! Very sweet. We were welcomed by friendly staff, and the service remained excellent throughout our time there. The menu on offer is variable with lots of different dishes to choose from. Alongside a specials board. We started with rum cocktails …best Mojito I have ever had! And that’s saying something as it’s my favourite cocktail! I chose the Creamy Coconut and Spicy Rice from the specials, my daughter the Chicken Hoi Sin, and my husband had wings and kebab from the main menu. He would have liked more than one kebab, but even so he said it was delicious. The hot wings more than made up for that though. My daughters dish..well we all had some of it it was that good!! But my coconut dish was to die for! I didn’t want it to end! I even asked if I could purchase a bucket of the sauce!!! My husband was dipping his pitta bread in it! I nearly licked the plate 😝 They’re closed till next March now, but seeing as we visit Bude every year we are all very much looking forward to going back! Great little find. ☺️

All in all this was a lovely place for a meal with my friends who were visiting the area, and our kids. It wasn't too busy , but not empty enough to rouse suspicion. They didn't have a drinks list which was a bit annoying...

Saved the best for last. Our last night in Bude after trying other restaurants this was by far the best. Food delicious, well presented, portion size generous. Absolutely loved it here!

Visited here this evening, food was amazing, portion sizes were huge, I had the ribs and couldn't finish them. Also dog friendly and they even bought a water bowl for the pooch. Highly recommended and would definitely come again.

We ate here last night and so pleased we did. The menu is extremely varied and reasonably priced. Everything came out together, perfectly cooked and very fresh. The staff were so lovely, nothing was too much trouble. Highly recommended.

Found out about this place too late Had a takeaway delivered to our caravan on Saturday which was excellent Planned to eat in on Sunday but they were closed. Went home Monday ☹️ Would definitely recommend this place

Brilliant and relaxed atmosphere. 5/5 for flavour and portion of the main meals (half chicken with price and southern fried chicken wrap). Desserts are to die for. Friendly staff. 5/5

We had a really enjoyable meal with decent service. I had 1/2 chicken with spicy rice and sweetcorn and hubby had chicken kebab with fries. Both were super tasty! The rum cocktails were good too. 😁
