Always the best Food,best Service and Great Staff and the BEST FISH AND CHIPS in Southbourne BH6

Lovely food I’ve been going there on and off for 30 year and it’s always been amazing

Last minute dash for fish and chips, trying to find somewhere open after 8 and came across Chick King. Lovely, friendly staff served us and cooked our food to order. The haddock was cooked to perfection and the chips were great too. Portion sizes were good. Attention to detail was impressive ensuring that everything was still hot when we ate at home. A great find.

I live in the Midlands and have visited the South coast on holiday for over 30 years. For most of them I have made a pilgrimage to this friendly take-away for "chicken n chips on the beach". In the last few years I have suffered serious health issues which prevents me from eating from most take-aways. This is the only take-away in the entire UK that I am comfortable eating from. Looking forward to the next 30 years.

Great quailty food, cooked to order!

Had a large burger and large chips from here for less than a tenner. Huge portions, cooked fresh while you wait. Tasty, good quality and good value. We will definitely visit again when we are next in Southbourne.

Poor service. Dry overcooked tasteless chips and cash only.

Good food but make sure you check it!!! They forget something every time. Just got home and there’s no salad on my meat & chips. They without a doubt forget something every visit - my fault for not checking this time.

Don't bother with the service or food here. May I suggest just further down is the cheaper, better value and much better food/service option!

Really disappointed. Fish swimming in oil , greasy chicken and a battered sausage that looked like it was left over from lunch time.

Cash only. Mediocre fish and chips. Small portion. Mayonnaise is homemade and not very good.

Although the people serving were lovely and stayed open to serve me at closing time, I wish they hadn’t - the chips were probably the worst I have ever had, they were over-cooked and had an awful after taste. Sorry Chick King.

Bit of a shame to write this but there’s a couple of stars for the friendly service and the fish which was great. The chips were like other reviews, just like McCain oven chips or similar and a real disappointment for a family who wanted seaside style fish & chips. There was a really long wait too with not much room either inside or outside to use. Not a great experience.

So slow. Rude staff. What a delight on a Sunday afternoon. Imagine not being able to cope with a handful of separate orders.

Absolutely love this place, been coming here for years. The chicken kebab and chips is the best I’ve had and the chicken nuggets too. It’s proper quality chicken and plenty of salad not like other places where they give you a single tomato and lettuce leaf. So much nostalgia from lockdown when I used to come almost everyday.

I absolutely loved the chips from here. High quality potato flavour and the most incredibly fluffy insides with one of the crunchiest outsides I'd ever had. The fish as well!! My god. We got 2 bits of haddock and they were both cooked to perfection. Had a super tasty batter and it must have been the freshest fish I've experienced in a long while. Probably caught earlier that day. You won't be disappointed. Actual S-tier+ fish and chips.

This take away has several food options but I always go for the fish & chips which are always freshly cooked to order, tasty, hot & great value. I've tried all the local chippies near my home & find all of them awful, so I'm happy to go out of my area to get chick king food. Service is always polite & friendly, the cost is reasonable too. I've been using this take away for years now & haven't found a place that can match it. Keep up the great work Chick King!

Not a good review been there twice young lady serving is rude, no chilli sauce and not alot of salad no jalapenos why have me and hubby spent so much money on 2 lousy takeaways? Very disappointing!!

Top burgers excellent quality, very tasty and sensible prices.

I been going at Chick King mostly for their fish and chips as is good quality, nice butter on the fish and well drain chips no oli as I like it. However I tried one of their burgers at weekend wow yes again nice meal one of the best I have in ages. Years of experience into perfection can't beat that allways recommend Chick King.

I have been going to Chick King my entire life. They are practically family to me in there.The food is extraordinary and delicious. At Christmas they give me a free order because I'm a local and have been supporting them through thick and thin. There chips never dissapoint. It pains me to see people rating them so harshly. I would rate a 100 if I could.

Ordered for the first time here - £19 for 2x large cheesy chips and a large doner kebab. The doner kebab was awful - poor portion size and quality (photo attached) and the cheesy chips had the smallest amount of cheese I've ever seen for the highest price I've paid outside of major events. Appreciate we are in a period of inflation but there are other local places that don't compromise on quality when charging higher prices. Will not be returning and would not recommend.

We ordered dirty chips, expecting chips with cheese and bacon or similar, but got something very different - chips with some seasoning which smelled like cinnamon 🤨. Walked away quite disappointed, but decided to return because this was not what we wanted and we didn't like it either. We returned them for plain chips which cost 3.90 per large. Dirty cost 5.50 per large. So they charge 1.60 for some powder which you wonder what to make of it.

Bardzo smaczna ryba i świetne frytki za niezłe pieniądze. Porcje ogromne. Niestety do zjedzenia raczej na wynos, bo w lokalu jest tylko kilka krzesełek. Miła i szybka obsługa.

Always use this burger/fish and chip shop. Food is freshly cooked and their burgers are outstanding. Staff are friendly but then we have been going 30 yrs!!!!!

I visited the place first in 2021. Its fish & chips are one of the best I tried. I regularly have visited the place for the meal whenever I'm in Bournemouth area ever since. It's cash only fyi.

Came here for the 1st time tonight and the food is incredible. My husband had the large cod and he 9/10 times always complains anywhere, in his words the fish was beautiful and the burger I had a was cooked to perfection, no grease dripping and so much bigger than I expected. To top it off the owner was extremely polite and friendly , can't wait for our next takeaway night.

The burgers are fresh and really tasty!!!! The portions are big and the price is more than fair. Definitely I recommend this place!

Stumbled across the chip shop in southbourne and very glad we did, food is exceptional, burgers, chicken nuggets and chips all cooked to perfection. The shop was also spotlessly clean. Highly recommended.

Waited nearly 20 minutes for chips. No queue when we went in and a 2 bite fishcake cost over £4

The chips are delicious. Crispy on the outside and soft in the middle. Some of the best chips I've had from a chippy!

Absolutely love chick king. I’m local and order from them easily 3 times a week. Staff are so so friendly and the food is amazing. Wouldn’t go anywhere else!

So I rang up as I was missing chips when I call I got told that she did it her self and I was lying. Week be4 man did milkshake wrong flavour then when I said he look at me and walk off so another staff had 2 do it they are very rude there.

I stopped in to get my little boy a battered sausage when out walking I only had a small amount of change but thought it would be enough for a small sausage however when the lady told me the price I said not to worry as I didn’t have enough and said to a friend I didn’t know they would cost that much the lady then had a go at me saying I don’t know how much it costs them in rent and electricity to run the place so I shouldn’t complain about the prices she was very rude and told me they don’t need my money so to go else where for cheaper food

Soggy chips, cold pea fritter that had raw batter inedible vile. Don't know what has changed the last 6mths. Will need to find a new chip shop

The worst fish and chips we have had no joke ! 2 small cod and chips £20 can you believe! The chips were Mcain oven ready and the batter was soggy. Won't ever go there again we'd rather choke !!

Kebab is beautifull!!!! So tasty!!!

Charged £4.50 per portion of "dirty fries" was a seasoning that had no flavour and looked like bird food just poured on chips once in box. No sauce or cheese to make them dirty fries. And cost £9.30 in total and neither of us finished as so dry and poor. Didnt want to write but have to be honest and give constructive critizism as we work hard and hungry and paid a good price for poor food.

Waited so long for a tray of chips; then without asking poured tomato kepchup over the chips. I hate kepchup!

I came across this place after a long walk along the beach from Bournemouth and we were looking for a bite for lunch. The appearance of the shop didn't fill us with confidence, and the menu is quite varied with fried chicken, fishnchips, kebab and a lot of others. As we were at the sea I wanted to get the cod and chips, and I can honestly say it was the best fish n chips I have ever had. The chips and the batter were crispy and seasoned to perfection and the fish was tasty and flaked apart. It couldn't have been better! I say that as someone who is very fussy about fish n chips and dislikes the traditional fare you get in most chippies that are soggy, greasy and bland. Will definitely visit again when I am in the area.

Great quality of food with reasonable price. The fish and chips we have ordered probably was onentye best I have ever had, it was freshly cooked and still hot and crispy when I got home. The fish was well seasoned and full of flavour. Just beware the portion is quite large and we couldn't finish the chips.

Without doubt the nicest takeaway food we have ever had. We had large cod and chips (came with free Tartare sauce) and large sausage in batter with chips. All the food is cooked fresh to order. They were very Covid19 organised constantly veining and sanitising and had a well organised system in place for ordering and collecting your food. Will definitely return and recommend.

Biggest and best burgers around 👌

Absolutely lovely food, we ordered large fish and chips and two large sausage in batter and chips. These were the nicest takeaway food we have had. The food was cooked to order so we had to wait a little while but it was worth the wait. We're not from the area but will definitely return when we are next in the area. Would not hesitate to recommend.

Wonderful food, the quality of their burgers is superb. The fish and chips are great and apparently (according to my veggie sister) the vegetarian food is good too. Can be a bit of a long wait some times but only really when it's hot and there's a million beach-goers coming up for food. Otherwise it's only 10, 15 minutes between ordering and indulging in some of the best takeaway food in Bournemouth :) Staff are friendly and helpful as well. Would definitely recommend this place 👌

I have just got home with our chips. I live 2 minutes away and the chips were stone cold. This place is going down hill as it’s changing hands often, after having the piece of cod that looked like it had been cooked on a volcano as it was just dry and no taste. The bater was so crispy it turned to dust. I won’t be using this place anymore

Poor at best, we had sausages and chips the sausage batter was not crispy at all, very soft sausages were poor quality, the chips were really greasy so much so I threw it away, definitely need to up Thier game there are so many other chip shops serving higher quality

came down to southbourne beach for the day on monday, my boyfriend quickly came here in the evening to pick something up for our dinner. he ordered for me a chicken burger & chips and he had cod & chips. he arrived back at the beach with our food, only to find they had forgotten the chips to my burger despite it even saying "+ C" on the container. burger was okay, chicken was quite chewy but filled me up. boyfriends cod and chips however was lovely!

Got home to find a battered sausage instead of a plain one, not properly cooked battered fish and no vinegar on the chips despite asking for it twice! Unattentive staff. No receipt provided. Many better fish & chip shops locally. Very Disappointed!

I have always loved the Chick King burgers, I go for the large cheeseburger with onions, relish and coleslaw. Would give 5 stars, but couldn't pay with card, so had to find a cash machine and had to pay for a bag to take away my order.

I drive passed several chip shops to come here. Friendly staff, really fresh food, always piping hot, never greasy. Recommended.

Great food and excellent service every time

I've never expected much from this place. The quality has varied over the years but always pretty good for a chippy. Tonight has been a poor experience though. The menu has extended beyond belief, more options than it could be humanly possible to provide at a an edible quality. I went in anyway, asked for curry sauce (chippy staple food in the south) and got told it was sold out and (at 8.30 pm) it was too late to make more. Now, if they had been a gastro pub making it from scratch, I would agree. But let's face it, it's out of a packet, same as any low rent chippy. And the killer was the attitude of the woman that served me, face like thunder and not in any way apologetic. To be fair she offered me gravy or beans, and I took the gravy. As described in a previous review, the chips were stuck together, solid, no crisp to any of them and way too many for a small portion. And the gravy, that I didn't really want, was straight out of a Bisto packet, rubbish.

Where do I begin !! Used for many years because of the quality.. all gone. Chips made with worst potatoes ever. Cold, all stuck together and tasteless. Previously had a kebab...got home and ingredients missing. Phoned to complain, manageress couldn't care less. Not surprising really... she is front of house and has the personality of a paper clip. Ever heard of customer service? Nope, didn't think so. Final straw, ordered scampi. Told on phone I didn't need to preorder unless it was a certain item (including scampi). So I told the guy, yes can I order scampi and chips please. You're ahead of me now...... yep, they had no idea about my order and I was only 5 minutes away. Do yourself a favour and give this place a wide berth...tell your friends the same.

The service here was really friendly but I struggle to see how this is highly rated chip shop taste wise. The chips are just like frozen steak cut and the chicken was terrible. I am a huge chicken fan and eat it 5 times a week. This was overcooked and the skin was standard and nothing special. We also had scampi and they were just something you cook out your freezer. Really disappointing . It is highly priced aswell.Was going to give it 1star but gave 2 because the staff were spot on

Popped into get a takeaway lunch... food was great, service was good too. However... be warned... they don't take cards! (Hence the four stars... and I didnt see any signs). So a quick march down to the local Coop to get cash... (I cannot remember the last time I had actual money in my hand!) that did spoil the experience.

This is the only chippy in thatcham that I use. Generally the food is lovely. However I decided to get myself cod and chips in the afternoon. Won’t be doing that again as the cod was so dry it was brittle and the batter was also dry and unpleasant.

We've been coming to Crown mead for many years and it was always of the highest quality. The 2 girls that used to run front of house have gone. We have eaten here 4 times now and everytime the chips have been rubbery like they have been hanging around most of the day. Such a shame as it was the best in town. Will be going else where now for our fish supper.

Me and mum came past here and decided to stop by to get fish and chips as we don't normally get it. We looked at all these amazing reviews and it seemed perfect. However, it’s definitely not as perfect, the fish was nice but super greasy and wrapped in a paper which the oil absorbed and started turning into mush. We were told it was going to be cooked fresh so we made them aware we are okay to wait however long yet they didn't wait for the grease to drip of. Chips where at least put on a cardboard plate thing but were definitely not fresh, they had a weird taste to it and just were a weird texture. The customer service was sad, the woman kept looking away and talking to colleagues while being spoken to about the order, she didn’t even ask if any utensils or sauces were needed. The most she asked was if salt and vinegar was needed. The most amazing thing that i actually ordered was the drinks, bubblegum mixed with cotton candy milkshake and coke.

Popped in today as I was passing through Thatcham, great food at a great price. It's probably the most pristine looking fish bar I've ever seen, was spotless. Hope covid doesn't hit this place to hard as the staff were lovely!

Janet and Peter are fantastic chefs, the American burger is my guilty pleasure and have to thank Janet for taking the time to give an autograph to my partner Devin, who is autistic and still starstruck that he met a Bond girl. I've been visiting Chick King on and off for years now, since day 1 and can truly recommend them.

Pretty good food but pricey for what it is, understandable as on the edge of town with low footfall, I am happy to pay a premium to see it keep trading, been eating here randomly for 20 years or more.
