Chick and Beers in Kingston upon Thames

DO NOT GO HERE. I was so excited to try the food and travelled all the way to New Malden only to arrive and be turned away because apparently they do not take walk-ins.This made no sense when I had checked their website before leaving and there wasn’t any type of reservation system that was advertised clearly.Nor was there any type of warning to book ahead before coming.I feel like I was discriminated against because I was in a group of only black people.So disappointing.

The portion was big and tasty. Decent prices and great service.

Chick and Beers is exactly what you expect from an area like New Malden. This location is filled with the best Korean restaurants you can find in the UK and Chick & Beers delivers on their promise when it comes to Korean fried chicken. Crispy? Yes. Moist? Yes. Packed with flavour? Yes. I was utterly impressed by the sheer amount of chicken and flavour for two people. I’ve had my fair share of phenomenal Korean fried chicken and this sits right up there with the best of them. Sweet, sticky, savoury, crispy and spicy is all you need when it comes to fried chicken. The side dishes served as a complement and palette cleanser from all of the chicken goodness. Well cooked chips and pickled radishes just pairing well with the richness and fattiness of the chicken. However, I was less than impressed by the wait time. Being shown to our table by our waiter and waiting 35 minutes for our meal left a sour taste in our mouths. I was really frustrated by how long we had to wait and when I asked the waiter he said it’s typically a wait time of 20 minutes. 20 minutes came and went before we got served our food and by then there wasn’t a single drop of fluid in my cup. As soon as the chicken was served 35 minutes later I had to order another drink. Drink prices here are quite ridiculous for the amount you’re served and that resulted in me ordering a bottle of water. This isn’t a strategy that will work in the long run as people like myself can grow quite impatient and decide to walk away before really seeing what your restaurant is all about. All of the negatives aside, the ambience was really chilled and relax. It’s very warm inside and you feel like you’re in the right place to just get messy and reckless with your food. There is a lot more to try on the menu and I do look forward to coming back so long as the service improves drastically. I do recommend this restaurant for all the chicken lovers out there, you won’t be disappointed.

The food was amazing, definitely the best Korean fried chicken I’ve had in the UK. The service was extremely slow though (we didn’t even get our drinks for 45 mins). We were sat outside and it was REALLY cold. But we were actually lucky to get seating (it’s very popular and we saw many people be turned away). They could definitely do with some outdoor heaters. Decor and atmosphere is lacking too but in spite of all this I would still return because the food was so good (maybe for takeaway though…)

The food was amazing and the portions were large. Very clean and the atmosphere and ambiance were great. Notably, Alex was very prompt with service and went the extra mile to assist with any queries we had on food allergens. They are very lucky to have him.

It has been my favourite Korean chicken restaurant but lately service has been really bad... Especially today, come on it's Friday, not everyone can go out to eat... I made take away and it took an hour to deliver.. Unbelievably terrible service..

came here with my partner, we were served by this wonderful waitress called Rebecca, she was super sweet, friendly attentive and she kept the place neat and tidy. Service was speedy, and the food was amazing. the chicken is super crispy and the sauces that come with are rich in flavor, and not to mention the sides are amazing quality for the price! so crispy! will definitely come again, thank you Rebecca for the great service!

Sooo good, really addicting chicken especially the glazed ones. Whatever they put in their batter is perfect. Spam fries were surprisingly good too. Some of the best chicken I’ve ever had. Great for sharing with friends/fam. Their beers were a great accompaniment too.

Best chicken wings I’ve ever had

I Have been there in the past nice chicken, however, quite rude service we tried to call to see if we can get a booking. when they did answer the call we ask if there way anyway to book a table. the ‘connection’ was bad and the call ended and we tried to call back but they even turned off the phone doing straight to voicemail. i understand if you are full and they can tell us over the phone, however, using that way to not interact with customers is insulting.

Got the half and half box with original and glazed. For the glazed we chose honey garlic soy and OMG it was amazing. I could eat a whole platter by myself. The original was good, but the glazed pieces were the star. Would definitely go back and will go back to try other flavours.

Went there to try out some of their fried chicken and have to say they were pretty good. We tried half spicy and half regular and it was quite alot for two people.

Got takeaway here as I was in the area and it has been on my list of places to eat from for a while. Food was just average to me. I got 6 wings (spicy & buffalo) with sweet potato fries. Portion sizes are good considering it cost nearly £20 for my meal. Nothing stood out for me taste wise, spicy chicken wasn’t spicy in my opinion and buffalo was just ok. Waitress was nice and informative when I asked her for opinion on what chicken to get. I waited about 25 mins for my order. Overall I would give the meal I ordered a 6/10.

Food is consistent every time I come but can be busy and booked weeks in advance. Prices have gone up since the last time I visited but that was probably rhetorical result of inflation.

WOW wow wow. I have had this chicken MULTIPLE times, and I look forward to it each time EVERY SINGLE TIME. Even the chips taste fokin good. Thats all I can say. I want to say for you to come, but I don’t want this restaurant to be shared with anyone else apart from me. it’s so good man thank u

Amazing korean fried chicken. They are tasty, good value and halal. Very good for me. Had the half half chicken. I prefer the chili glaze than the honey glaze. One tray have about 14-15 pieces of chicken so can be shared with 3 people. The chicken wings were also good. Cajun fries were also good. Would recommend coming together with friends as the portion is quite big. T Went there for 13 people and they kindly arranged our visit. Very helpful and accommodative.

Following many visits by our son, we decided to stop by for a bite and a drink at this venue. We got to meet the regulars Raj, Kam (a joy) and their super-smart son as well as Joon who cooked for us and Jerry, who served us with a big smile. While the kitchen was super busy we enjoyed the beer and the Korean wine. The food was great and the sincerity was just joyous. We look forward to being back. Thank you for a lovely afternoon.

4 years since my first review and still… OH MY GOD!!! *STRONGLY RECOMMEND BOOKING!!* rightly so this wicked establishment has got so busy! Haven’t even left the restaurant as I write this but WOW. Such tasty chicken - incredible flavours!! We had the half and half (Korean Fried Chicken & Soy Glaze) and the nuggets with chips (oh my god the chips! The seasoning was soooo flavoursome!) Will definitely be returning regularly and bringing friends to enjoy this place. Also; the staff! The woman who served us was so smiley, chatty and friendly! Absolute star!! Highly recommend ❤️

This used to be my FAVOURITE KFC shop in london. The chicken is dry, and the sauce is too much to that we couldn’t finish it. The batter is thicker than usual as well. It was such a disappointment when I always had high hopes for this restaurant and we travelled to Ktown just for this. They should change their menu for the beer selection when they said they don’t have kusovice beer since the staff claimed they don’t import to the UK anymore.

Some of the best fried chicken I have ever had. The sauces were excellent. Sticky nuggets weren't my fav and I would skip them next time I visit. Staff are amazing, they managed to squeeze us in when I realised I made a mistake with my reservation. Can't wait to go back.

Chick and beers has been my family’s favourite for many years but what happened in the kitchen today?! The batter supposed to be thin and crispy which is why we love the chicken here, however the batter is a lot thicker and oily, the sauce is sweeter than usual. It ruined our friday dinner sadly. Hope we get our favourite chicken back next time I order..

I’ve tried many Korean fried chicken from places all over London and I can whole heartedly say that this place is top tier. The quality and portion size for that price is very reasonable. Will definitely be coming back to try more soon. And the chicken is also Halal

The food was absolutely amazing it was literally outstanding I just loved it. We had some onion rings, sweet potato fries and half half fried glazed chicken and lastly for drinks we had lemonade and ginger beer.

Chicken was fried nicely but lacked seasoning. Service was terrible. People had to constantly get up and go and ask for what they needed as the staff were constantly at the back and no one at the front of the house.

First time visiting here, both Tomas and MJ were very welcoming. Allowed us to try the sauces before ordering the chicken with the glazes. Had some pints before hand. Food was out of this world. Unreal fried chicken.

The best Korean Fried chicken and cold beer you will get in London. We went on sunday and the waiter was attentive but relaxed and they couldn't have made us feel more at home. We'll be back and will recommend to everyone we know.

Amazing chicken, huge portion “for 2 people” could easily serve 3. Glad we didn’t get any sides! Nice that they don’t have a crazy number of options for glazes and dips like most Korean chicken places do.

Tasty Korean fried chicken with various seasonings. But a bit salty.

Very delicious fried chicken - piping hot and juicy if you eat in. The amount of glaze they put is just right. Staff are friendly and the restaurant is clean and spacious. A nice place for catch up with a few friends.

This place does hands down the best Korean fried chicken in the UK. The menu is simple and straightforward: chicken three ways. They also give pickled radish with the chicken, which is so so good. The spam fries are great too and they also sell different flavours of soju.

Absolutely fantastic place. I’ve wanted to try this place for years and finally made it. The chicken is super crispy, fresh and cooked to order and so juicy! The spam fries are also pretty epic although I think they need a sharp dipping sauce/mayo to cut through the richness a bit. The waiting staff are so friendly and couldn’t be more accommodating. An absolute gem of a restaurant, I can’t wait to come back! Huge thanks to the whole team

Poor value and a dull venue lacking decor, furnishings and atmosphere. No idea why it's well known and I certainly won't return.

Been twice now, very good Korean Fried Chicken and even the ribs, would definitely recommend visiting at least once for the fried chicken. Book in advance to avoid disappointment since seating is limited and tends to get full quickly for a Friday / weekend evening.

Update - have since been a couple more times and always great service and incredible food. Have yet to have a bad meal from here and probably never will! Best fried chicken around. Had a lovely takeaway from here with a friend. Ordered a bit of everything to try it all and loved it. I hadn’t ordered ahead so did have to wait quite a while for it to be made (but this just shows it’s freshly made to order, so no bad thing!) so I would advise to order ahead if it’s going to be a big order! Staff were warm and friendly, it’s a very nice environment in the restaurant. It appears a little on the pricier side but the portion sizes are large, so it’s actually very reasonably priced for the amount you get and the quality of the food. Overall, very impressed and looking forward to visiting for a sit down meal when it’s safe to do so.

What an unreal day out! All the chicken was cooked to perfection and it was just an absolute blast to be there, I’d recommend making sure you get some garlic soy chicken as it was the best - I am still not over just how good everything was, to top it all off the service was great and the beer icy to the touch!

The fried chicken is excellent, but I don’t recommend eating fried luncheon meat 😝 I want to ask the beer waiter to try three different styles before ordering, but the dining time is limited.

Tidy place, with huge servings of fried chicken. We got the half fried half glazed, but id probably recommend getting the whole lot glazed. Chicken was really nice and the garlic soy was banging, cajun chips were ok but I'm not really a fan of chips so probably biased.

Chick & Beers on Coombe Road is a perfect example of ‘less is more’. They have a limited but Fried Chicken first, focused menu which is executed consistently and perfectly. With Korean Fried Chicken that far exceeded already high expectations, I have simply concluded that this is the best place in London for Chicken. I didn’t try any of their beers but if their chicken is anything to go by, I'd guess that’d be amazing too. I have been to Chick and Beers Coombe Road on multiple occasions. It being almost an hour and a half journey for me is not enough to deter from having one of the most breath-taking chicken pieces and restaurant experiences money can buy in London. A special shout-out goes to the consistently friendly and attentive service at Chick & Beers, but more specifically to Rebecca who works at the Coombe Road branch! Fried chicken but not Korean fried chicken 3.5 stars Average fried chicken but for sure not Korean fried chicken. Selection of the different chicken flavours is quite small. The menu also shows that the owner might be not Korean (radish charged extra). Food: We ordered the spring onion boneless chicken (325gr/£12.5) and the garlic soy chicken wings (4pcs/£11.5). The spring onion chicken was ok but the garlic soy was way too salty. Waiting time: The restaurant was pretty empty (2 other tables were occupied) but waited 25 min from ordering to receiving. Here they could improve. Service: ok beside the long waiting time

Alright here me now it was my little sisters birthday and before she goes off to uni we decided to try out this relatively know Korean fried chicken place called chick and beers in New Malden/Coombe Road branch. We had to sit in the outside part which was a bit depressing at first but that all changed when we were great by our amazing server Mj who was brilliant and made the whole culinary experience a joy. I got to try a lot of different things because I was with my siblings I got the half half (fried/glazed) with garlic soy, along with spam fries and a complimentary mozzarella sticks because my chicken took a bit longer than everyone else. I also got to try the Cajun fries and sweet chilli nuggets. Half Half chicken - garlic soy/fried As good as the half half chicken was which is like 15 pieces of chicken so don’t make my mistake and think you can conquer it all, you aren’t the Roman Empire. The normal fried chicken is succulent and well crispy but lacked flavour by itself and heavily relies on the sauce so I do recommend to always get it glazed or to do the obligatory dip in the sauce you get on the side. 7/10 Spam fries I have never had spam before so this was a risk me choosing to get these and I’ve heard that they are amazing but when I had them I didn’t understand the hype like they’re quite tasty, very salty though I wouldn’t get them again though. 5.5/10 Mozzarella sticks I did have high expectations because I’ve always thought you couldn’t mess up these but I was a bit disappointed they did have a decent cheese pull but the batter was not good. It was in need of serious salt because it lacked taste. Very underwhelming but it was free so I was happy about that, would not recommend . 3.5/10 The Cajun fries were very good, great portion, crispy, fresh, fluffy on the inside. I was pleased with it. Sweet chilli nuggets were hefty, unusually big for nuggets you could eat those with some fries and you would be good. My sister’s suggestion to make that just a bit better was to have two different glazing choices instead of one for the whole thing like the chicken. Big portions was happy about it. The sweet potato fries I ordered was bit burned though. Original chicken is good ,garlic soya was okish. The chicken tenders with onion is nothing special. The Spam fries was ok.

I’m really not person who write a review. But i felt like i have to write here after trying this afternoon. I just moved to the UK from South Korea 4 months ago and have been disappointed with Korean restaurants in London. However, my life has been changed after trying fried chicken here. I can say that fried chicken here is better than the ones in South Korea. If you wanna try real-authentic Korean Fried Chicken, here is the place. Guys working there were also super friendly and nice. Highly recommend!

Outstanding Korean fried chicken. I've been coming here consistently for nearly a year and have always had a great time. The waiters are friendly, the consistency of the dishes is impeccable and the flavour is just right. My go-to order which I strongly recommend includes: a half and half portion of wings (garlic soy and spicy), onion rings, and spam fries. I find this to be enough food for 2 people with a medium appetite. For bigger eaters the whole chicken half and half goes pretty far.

This place is amazing, the food is 10/10 and the service is 10/10. Sophie was friendly and very helpful in making our time here welcome, would recommend for families, groups or even by yourself. Really good treat for gym goers(so much protein!!)

Family visited for my husband's birthday. Welcoming restaurant. We ordered the main with sweet chilli and spicy sauces. Ordered sides extra. My husband's comment was nice and crispy but lacking in flavour that we would expect from Korean food.

Extremely dirty, smells bad - like rats, dirty floors and seats. Plenty of flys! Don’t buy into the social media hype and five star reviews. I’ll be avoiding this until the hygiene doesn’t improve.

Amazing Korean fried chicken! The plain fried one had a light and super crispy batter. The chicken was cooked very well - hot, juicy, tender and well-seasoned! The soy garlic one was also delicious. The Cajun fries had a nice spicy kick to it! All of them paired greatly with a pint of beer!

The food is awesome. Service is very slow,we waited 30 mins for our food. They could do with more staff and tables as it gets quite busy. Also they close the kitchen at 9:15 pm, way too early.

I love the chicken here it's so goooood. It's a little slow to come out, but thats just because it's done fresh and cut from a whole chicken. The staff are fantastic and I would not hesitate on giving it a go.

Went to sit outside as inside has no vibe, no music and a bit awkward. When we sat outside we was surrounded by cobwebs and was very dirty. Was hungry so just ordered anyway. The wings were good, Cajun fries average, and the nuggets were very bad. Had a soggy yellow batter, typical of a Chinese takeaway of dough balls. Staff looked depressed and when we sat outside, they served someone else who arrived after us while we were there waiting.

The fried chicken's flavor was so irresistible that my taste buds were left gaping in awe!
