Chia Naturally Healthy in North Hertfordshire

Absolutely love going here for food, beautifully served, great healthy food and fast service. Would definitely recommend.

This is a fantastic vegan spot that will certainly have food you enjoy whether you follow the plant based diet or not. I regularly enjoy the meals on offer at chia, and even better, the cakes! I would recommend the pancakes and the nachos, as well as the fruit crumble slices. There is always a warm atmosphere inside chia and the staff are always friendly. You can see they work hard to make the place as lovely as it is!

I have been visiting Chia since they opened on the other side of the churchyard. It’s a fantastic business despite being a bit pricy, but as everything is plant based and so yummy it’s worth the extra cost. However we went for breakfast at the weekend and the filth was shocking. The floor clearly had not been swept. The benches have “slat gaps” and they were full of food debris and dirt. The upright surface of the bar under the coffee machine had mud smears on it. Given we went at about 10am I was shocked. It wouldn’t have been good at the end of the day but it just looked like the cleaning had not been done. Thoroughly disappointed and will definitely not be rushing back.

This is the first time I have visited and I will be back. I had a brunch with a friend she had the cheesy melt and I had the mushroom melt. Both were delicious and surprisingly good, mainly as I am looking for a great vegan experience and this could be it..

I popped in today to grab a late lunch at 2.30. There were no clean tables and the staff were more interested in taking photos of food. I had to sit at a table full of dirty dishes went and ordered my lunch and a bottle of water. It took ages to come out and although the table next to me was ‘cleaned’ in that time mine was not. I say cleaned they removed the dirty dishes but didn’t wipe it down. When my food at last came out I had to ask for my water. Again they ‘cleaned’ the table. I had no napkins so had to get up and find myself some. I use to like going in for lentil Dahl for my lunch, which has been removed from the menu. I had the loaded nachos they were ok nothing to write home about. Will not be going back.

RIP off prices . Really not worth my time or money. It used to be fantastic when it was in the other venue

I came in to order some takeaway food, including some Dahl and rice. I was told that it would take 15 minutes so I went away. It wasn’t ready when we returned after 20 minutes and had to wait another 15 mins. The place was quiet (at 3.30pm). There was no apology for the delay. They then served it in an unsuitable container (liquid Dahl in a polystyrene container you would put fish and chips in). I asked for it to be put in a soup container, which they had, and they refused to pour it out. I asked for a spoon to do this. They gave me a small coffee stirring spoon. And while I was doing that they asked me to move away from the counter even though there were no customers nearby. It was £10 for a quarter pot of Dahl which is very expensive. Such rude service. Shocking.I also bought a mushroom dish that promised a creamy coconut yoghurt sauce that was missing.I spent £25 on the takeaway with some raw sweets.A real disappointment the Front of house staff have no idea about customer service.(Written on my behalf of my wife)

Really lovely food delicious coffee would recommend But this is my second visit on my own and both times I have found the counter staff to be unfriendly and cold Something that I think should be addressed by the management ASAP

Have visited this lovely stylish ambient little cafe several times and never disappointed. Good leafy location in the town centre, opposite entrance to St Mary’s. Great menu, love the breakfast choices, the full English is amazing, love the breakfast burrito. Doorstop sandwiches really delicious, the cakes are fantastic, yummy cheesecakes and huge chewy cookies. We will be going back.

Came here for the first time today with my mum and sister. I'm gf and df so this was a great choice. Plenty of choice on the menu. I had banana vanilla pancakes and. A mint CBD oil hot chocolate, my mum had blueberry pancakes with a lavender latte and my sister had a olive tapanade and hot chocolate. All very nice and filing. Plentl of food.It was so nice not to have to worry about the food I had making me poorly. We will definitely be back for lovely food!

What a lovely brunch I had here. Delicious blueberry pancakes that were amazing and I highly recommend. Also the coconut latte was really nice. Service was great as always.

This was my first trip to Hitchin and I was thoroughly impressed with the food from Chia cafe. I'm not a vegan but love a sugary treat for brunch and am always slightly sceptical as to whether it will be as creamy or chocolatey as I would like. The food at Chia Naturally Healthy didn't let me down- I chose the vanilla pancakes with hazelnut crumb and banana with dark chocolate sauce. It was really delicious and I loved the flavours and the crunchy hazelnut on top. My one criticism would be that it was slightly dry (Even with maple syrup) and probably could have done with a creamier sauce or an oat cream. We loved our outdoor seating and thought the service was great. I will definitely be coming back to sample more of the menu as choosing what to have was a real challenge!

Food was lovely. Staff very friendly but we felt invisible. Lunchtime service was very busy but we did not even receive an acknowledgement. Waiting ages to even receive a menu(in fact my wife had to grab two) and I had to flag down staff to order a drink. We were going to order deserts and coffee but again, we were ignored, our empty plates weren't even taken away. I really do not like to leave negative reviews and as mentioned, the staff were very polite when you were able to get their attention but they seemed to have "blinkers" on, not being aware of customers waiting.

I have wanted to go to Chia for so long, and I am so glad I did! The food was to die for! The staff were so friendly, and the environment in the cafe was stunning! It was so relaxed and chilled, really unique. I think I'm going to make regular monthly visits, I can't recommend this place enough!

I miss this place! It’s literally one of my favourite vegan spots ever. Perfect delicious innovative options for everyone. Super healthy and nourishing. Coffee and hot chocolate to scream for! Would recommend their Energy balls, carrot cake, roasted veg sandwich, banana pancakes and the hummus💖🥦🍌🥞🍰☕️

Absolutely love this spot - some super tasty dishes on the menu and I’m indeed a regular customer. Cinnamon pancakes are an absolute must! Sadly after giving all staff the benefit of the doubt - the breakfast bowls still not even being half filled. All vegan places in London will fill these to the brim and sadly for almost £7 - it’s a boarder line insult. If the stinginess were to change, I’d give this place 5 stars.

Had brunch here last Monday, I had the pancakes with a hazelnut crumb they were amazing wish I had taken a picture but they looked so good couldn’t wait to eat them. I also had the wake me up smoothie which I would recommend. Good service, will definitely be coming back again.

Passed CHIA completely by chance to find this twee restaurant serving up excellent vegan options and an all plant-based menu. Based on this, I had to stop and sample their breakfast, so ordered an americano to accompany cashew peanut butter on sourdough toast with a honey-style glaze and chopped banana. Amazing flavours with sharp raspberries alongside it, and a decorative floral piece to top it off. Lovely and all reasonably priced too.

went for lunch today. Found it expensive and hard to know what to choose. All the drinks are made not with cows milk so tasted strange and the tea was very very weak. Can't say we would return but no doubt a good place for vegans to go

The food overall was disappointing and overpriced. My mums and sisters meals was the butternut squash falafel bowl - the falafel was bland and dry, the whole meal lacked flavour. My meal was the burger - it was £16! The actual burger was pretty good, but the coleslaw was completely tasteless and the sweet potato ‘fries’, actually were soggy chunks. The drinks were nice and the atmosphere and decor were lovely BUT overall would not visit again. It was £55 for 3 meals and 3 drinks! We left unsatisfied and feeling ripped off.

the meal took ages ..was warm staff was nice... yet i complained next day about the matter the said was due to the chef wouldn't give refund as it was there fault .cold food ..extra toast cost three pounds ..spend 52 pounds very not good time there

Bit disappointed today, Buddha Bowl was dry, flavourless and lacking in dressing. £12.95 for a plate of broccoli and chickpeas. Service not great either.

First time for us. Impromptu walk-in off the street. We (blindly) missed the menus, so focused on what was on offer behind the counter :) I suppose the staff might also have pointed them out to us, but no matter. Mixed salads for me and roasted veg filled ciabatta for my partner. I am not vegetarian (not even close), but my melange of 4 different kinds of salads, must be one of the best I've tasted. Packed with all sorts of flavoursome ingredients like quinoa, baby spinach leaves, feta, spicy carrot...to name but a few. With a lovely large dollop of hummus in the middle. Pretty satisfying. They serve a decent flat white as well. Not the cheapest (around £12 for the salad I recall), but pretty good value.

I had the soup for lunch which was very tasty but it had FAR too many pumpkin seeds in it! Every spoonful felt like 20% soup and 80% pumpkin seeds! Would be good if they went easy on the pumpkin seeds next time also had some vegan chocolate cake which was delicious.Great to have a vegan cafe in Hitchin and glad it’s dog friendly too. Lovely decor inside, perfect spot for people watching. Friendly service though was a little slow but it was busy! I did find the menu to be rather pricey and portions on the small side in comparison to other independent cafes in the area. It’s a shame to see the management have responded to some reviews in a way which seems a bit dismissive or defensive rather than accepting of constructive criticism from paying customers though...!

Great that there is a proper vegan cafe in Hitchin. Nice decor and great for people watching. The food was nice and the staff were friendly BUT at nearly £10 for a lunch ‘main’ avocado mash on toast I don’t think I should leave a cafe still hungry. I just got a thin piece of sourbread cut in 2 and toasted. The coffee was also served in a very small cup. The food should either be priced more reasonably for what it is or there should be more of it! The service was also very slow considering we went in after the lunchtime rush.

Have eaten here before (at the previous location) and enjoyed very much. This time just beverages of which there's a good choice and plenty of detail and description about what you'll receive. It's not cheap, but that doesn't necessarily translate to over-priced, but explains the 4-star rather than 5, as by its nature, that renders it somewhat exclusive. Friendly and comfortable atmosphere.

Vegan food that satisfies is such a delight here at Chia and it’s great to have such a wide menu to choose from.

Visited Chia for the second or third time last sunday, its such a wonderful place, the decor is so peaceful and the wooden seating believe it or not is really comfortable.

i popped in early morning for a coffee (perfect) and succumbed to a warm chocolate chip muffin. very nice but they do have much more healthy food available. Everything on display looked wholesome and fresh. Staff were very pleasant and friendly. Decor and seating comfortable and relaxing.

We were visiting friends and visited this little town Hitchin and found this place as we were walking by. Lovely decor. The coffees and drinks are original and as a group of 6 we all tried different drinks and they were all amazing! Turmeric Latte was such a nice experience as I've never drank anything like this. Flu shot was also very tasty especially for this weather. staff were pleasant but the only down side is that we had waiting for our drinks quite a while. It was about 10 mins between 1st person to get their drinks and the last one. But overall a very pleasant experience and would return again if in this area again. Definitely worth a try especially due to all the different and unique drinks you can try.

I've visited Chia a few times. The atmosphere and decor is always lovely. The staff are always friendly and smiling, although there can be a bit of a wait sometimes. Their hot drinks are very pleasant. I've had the beetroot latte several times and it's perfect, not too sweet. The cakes are usually delicious, but perhaps there's a lack of consistency. Sometimes they can be a bit dry, especially near the end of the day.

So impressed with my first visit to this lovely cafe with friendly, welcoming staff who clearly enjoy making and serving the food. The coffee is wonderful and I’d wholeheartedly recommend the banana toast which is literally heaven on a plate! This was the first time I had tried coffee with almond milk and I am totally converted.

I came in for the first time for brunch a few days ago with a friend. I'm pretty new to veganism so was delighted to find so much on offer, especially all the different types of lattes and so many gf cakes! The staff were absolutely fantastic, the girl who served me (I think she said her name was Suzie?) was really lovely and informative about the menu. She seemed to know all of the allergens and treated my gluten allergy with serious care, which was very reassuring. Also helped me settle on what to order - in the end I went for the pancakes and a dirty chai, both of which were presented beautifully. Great little place with yummy food and what seems to be very lovely and attentive staff. I will definitely be back!

I have visited the old and new premises on many occasions. I absolutely love the new cafe and the soya milk cappuccino is definitely the best in Hitchin. The food portion sizes are a bit smaller than they used to be but they were huge before and are still plenty big enough. Fab to have such a delightful vegan cafe in our lovely town.

I love the new venue and today had a wholesome breakfast that was just delicious, especially the tempeh! We finished off with a detox juice which was also spot on! The service was really friendly and lovely atmosphere. I watched 2 other tables receive their food with the same delight we did and have to say my experience is far from what I read from previous reviews???? Can’t wait to come back and wish you could bring a bit of this loveliness to Hertford please

Chia used to be my favourite place to eat- what’s happened?! I ate in the new premises today with a friend and we were both so disappointed! She too was a regular and her last visit wasn’t good either. We decided to give it one more go but sadly, we won’t be back.

I used to visit Chia nearly every weekend when they were in their old premises, however since moving the food, service and atmosphere are just not the same.

Having been a customer at Chia for years, I followed the café with its move in Hitchin.

The food was tasty but quite expensive for what it was. Also the portion sizes could have been bigger.

Visited today this place is a gem ,lovely staff caters all sorts of food intolerances .the coffee is superb . Yet another independent creating a new market place,we will be back

We are sitting here watching the world go by in the sun, enjoying great vegan cakes ( I recommend the passion fruit cheesecake and stress buster drink) . The service is fast efficient and friendly. What a wonderful way to spend a Sunday afternoon. Thank you Chia

We have tried this cafe a couple of times before and always enjoyed the snacks and drinks. However today they had some problem with the order taking equipment and could not print out orders in kitchen. I would have thought this could have been overcome quite simply but in fairness they did advise the wait would be close to 45 minutes. I would not have minded too much if when the very meagre portion arrived it had been as tasty as before. It was dry, not pleasant and showed that you should not go there when they are busy. Probably victims of their own success and I hope the Management get a grip or the success won't continue.

Hitchin, Herts is fast becoming a good place to eat out, with many specialist restautants and food shops opening in the last few years. (It's a pretty town anyway, and well worth visiting). Chia oened in 2019 and is right in the centre, next to the church, in a great location where you can watch the world go by. Service is a little slow at busy times.

I am a huge fan of Chia and used to regularly go to the old venue for take away lunch so I was really excited when they opened the new, bigger venue with a bigger kitchen. I have been several times but every time it gets slower. A couple of times, I have ended up waiting an hour for a take away lunch and then had to get a refund. Its such a shame as the food is brilliant, the new place looks amazing and its a great concept but currently the service is really letting it down. I really hope they get the teething problems ironed out soon as it is well worth a visit but maybe not for take away

I hadn’t been here since they moved to the bigger premises but ordered the same avocado smash I had before. My friend ordered the garlic mushroom equivalent.

Was looking forward to mushrooms on sourdough didn’t expect cold boiled mushrooms on toast so soggy it nearly disintegrated , my sister had a tasteless green smoothie but my daughters banana milk shake was fine. Such a shame it could be really good.

I am an avid Chia fan and visitor and have had numerous drinks and meals at the previous cafe and have never been disappointed in anything.

Arrived with a friend for lunch, found a table and perused the menu. We stood at the counter for a good 5 minutes before one of the bewildered looking staff took our order. A simple order of coffee, pancakes and a side salad for me. My friend ordered hers immediately after and we requested the food be served to us at the same time.

I guess I fall well outside the target demographic as I'm not vegan, or young, and I'm a bloke, but on a sunny Sunday morning I was tempted to check out what has been done with this handsome and historic corner site just off Market Place, particularly after its previous short-lived incarnation as a waffle shop had so obviously failed to find a market.

Love Chia and it’s great to have a fully plant based place in town. The new shop is beautiful and staff are lovely. I visit regularly (2/3 times a week) for the smoothies which are great and the cakes are amazing.

Having been to the old chia plenty of times, I was looking so forward to the new premises. The interior was so beautiful and had such a lovely atmosphere. I love what they’ve done with the place.

We had been to Chia quite some time ago, and remembered the food to be much better. Today, the food was was very very average. The pancakes were an unpleasant texture and too sweet. The turmeric latte was too sweet and a tiny serving. The nachos and the salad were okay, but overpriced for what they were.

... Chia has moved to it's new premises and is finding it's feet and was surprised that during the 'soft' launch they didn't offer a discount which I have experienced before. Waited an age for my nacho chilli bean bowl which was half the size of the potion when they where at the old place.

I absolutely love this cafe, and I took some non-vegan friends here and they were thoroughly impressed. I love coming as often as I can, and although it's not the cheapest, it's definitely worth it.

Pesto & veg ciabatta is a divine creation, all the food is nutritious and superb (Had several sides, mains and dessert). Really good coffee as well! Efficient and welcoming service! Get down there!

I have been to chia a couple of times and it never fails. The breakfast/brunch is absolutely delicious. Very friendly staff and good presentation. My new spot for food in Hitchin/Letchworth Keep up the good work guys

As this was my first time here I was visibly impressed. The staff are friendly and as welcoming as the historic building itself. I would highly recommend the Golden Mylk drink!

We have been here a couple of times and absolutely love the food and coffee here. They have spent a lot of time putting this place together and the effort has certainly paid off . The staff are very friendly and helpful and the food selection is very well thought out and is superb. We always call here when possible and never disappointed with what's on offer especially the chocolate cake ! And can recommend the soup also. If I have to mention a down side then I can only say that the stairs up can be a bit tricky because of being in an old building .

We went there on a Sunday for a late lunch with my vegan friend. The food was good. We also shared a dessert. Probably best vegan cake we have ever had (mocha cake). The reason for 4 stars is for drinks. I think some drinks are massively overpriced for what they are. Otherwise, food and cakes are worth a visit.

I am NOT a vegetarian!!!! I needed breakfast in Hitchin and am not allowed much because of doctors orders........ so I decided a healthy breakfast was probably safest.

Been here every day for the past week and cannot complain with the food or the service by the staff. Very friendly atmosphere and food to go with it. Massively recommend if your A) Vegan/Plant Based or B) a decent human being who likes tasty healthy food

Having previously been to this restaurant and had good service I was really disappointed this time. There were 4 members of young staff who simply ignored the customers waiting at the till. A simple 'we will be with you shortly' would have been sufficient but no we were completely ignored. After 15 minutes we interrupted to ensure the young students in front of us were served. When we were eventually served the food looked unappetising, we had to go down and get our own drinks which were forgotten

What a great little cafe / deli hidden in Hitchin. It’s not a massive cafe area upstairs with about 6 tables but it is worth the wait. The staff are so friendly and you can tell people come back often. The menu has so much to choose from and as a meat eater there are still plenty of options, it isn’t all tofu and beans. I have enjoyed several lunches here and can highly recommend it for something a bit different. The pancakes are good but very filling and the avocado on toast is delicious. Will be returning again

I love chia and as a non dairy eater it’s perfect. All food, juices and cakes are delicious and I don’t miss meat at all as the flavours taste so good. Lovely friendly staff who are happy to answer any questions. It is quite expensive but I think it’s worth it for the good produce.

As a meat eater myself I have to say I did really enjoy this lovely Caffe. The place looks gorgeous and the breakfast post is amazing. Highly recommend and I noticed how the other customers were talking about how good the food is.

I’ve eaten here lots and love it . Allways delicious food and good service . Try their healthy juices and shakes with a cake . I expecially like the breakfast hot pot too .

This small cafe is in the centre of Hitchin near the church, whilst I am not a vegan I had a tasty meal. The young staff were friendly and efficient. My niece who is a vegan was visiting and it was nice to take her somewhere where she could have anything on the menu.

The food is awesome, the staff are fun, the juices and smoothies are delicious and the front window seats are the best place for a bit of people watching.

Was taken to Chia cafe by family I was visiting in Hitchin. Wonderful to have an entire menu to choose from instead of scanning for a vegan option. There were 3 of us and each had a different dish. The food was delicious and good size servings. We also took some cake home for afternoon tea and that too was great. Does takeaway or dine in but only a small eating area. Open 7 days and the staff were very friendly and helpful. I wish there was a cafe like this were I live.

Great place to eat Vegan food, everything was amazing. The only issue was that it took a while to get our food.

Everything is right about this place! The food! The ambience. The location. The sugar free zone! The Vegan approach. The cosy interiors. Very Cool people! For any Vegan, non Vegan, health And Well being freak is a must!

I went with my old friend who is trying to eat healthily as she is recovering from severe ill health.

As part of my new healthy lifestyle and my vegetarian companions personal choice, we tried Chia. The food was very good and although a little pricey was very enjoyable. The only downside for me is the atmosphere or rather the lack of it.

I'm not a veggie. I'm not a vegan. I still enjoyed this cafe. It's a rickety, ancient tumble-down cottage, with four exuberant young people running it.

Having recently adopted a vegan lifestyle and from the reviews of a friend, I was really keen to try Chia and was hoping for some inspiring food to show me what amazing vegan food could taste like.

I come regularly either by myself or with my wife. The food is great and I'm ok with paying extra for the good quality. I don't want to leave a bad review as overall I don't think it would be fair however like a previous reviewer I'm getting fed up of the mixed up orders and extremely long waits. Unlike the previous reviewer I think your staff are very friendly and overall helpful but clearly something is wrong with the set up.

We meet mid morning and had decided to go here having heard good reports. We ordered our drinks- I tried one of their fruit juices and went and sat upstairs in their little dining area to decide what we were having.

Nice coffee, tasty soups, lovely indulgent cakes. All plant based and well presented. Friendly service and cosy upstairs seating. Nice for a treat.

I have visited Chia a couple of times over the last few weeks with a friend and I have not been disappointed.

I absolutely love everything here! The take away salads are gorgeous! I also like to treat myself to something sweet and this week it was chocolate cake and an bakewell cake! Absolutely gorgeeoouuussssssss! Can’t tell you how delish this was! I am yes to try the menu as they are so popular it’s tough to get a seat but am determined as I literally fancy everything on it! Super nice and helpful staff. I think with their popularity they might need a bigger premises and add home deliveries for weekly orders! I’d literally be there every day if I worked near by!

Chia is the only place in Hitchin for delicious and healthy plant based foods, (whether you are vegan or not!). Small but perfectly formed, this lovely little spot in picturesque churchyard is always busy, and for good reason..so expect to queue for your chaga coffee and sugar free cake. The menu is diverse, and suits every taste. The all day breakfasts are hearty without the heart disease, the smoothies are juices are all delicious. But it is the array of delicious cakes which are the highlight of my visit . How can they be healthy?! What kind of witchcraft is this?!

My wife and I visited Chia for lunch today and were very happy with the variety and standard of food as well as the service. The menu is well laid out - all allergens/ingredients are labelled clearly.

Lovely food but service is much to be desired! We suggest a more hands on manager would be a good start. Dirty plates left on tables, no cutlery or napkins either. Fishing ‘clean’ cutlery out of a sink of dirty water without drying them leaving them with debris not very nice to see. Also not great to see staff chatting and txting in the presence of customers.To justify the prices you must have good service as well as good food.

Arrived mid morning in Hitchin, for the first time, after a drive from Kent and was in need of a coffee. We happened upon the charming Chia. The staff are super friendly and polite. The vegetarian and vegan food options are imaginative and tasty, so much so that we had to try a few. If I was living in Hitchin the Chai would be on my list of places to eat at regularly...

I have visited here many times, for breakfast and also lunch. All meals have been amazing and always make me want to re-visit. The service is great but its always the food and drinks which entice me back for me. No where else around like it.

My husband and I had lunch at Chia today. I am vegan but he isn't. Chia is a vegan establishment serving plant based food and drink. They were busy when we arrived so the service was a bit slow, however, staff were friendly and helpful. The premises is tiny so be prepared to sit fairly close to other diners.

I had been thinking of visiting this tiny little cafe for a while now and finally made it last week. Having never been to a vegan cafe before I wasn’t sure what to expect. I had sour dough with homemade peanut butter which was so tasty. Didn’t realise there’s more seating upstairs overlooking the St Mary’s Church. I thoroughly enjoyed my tea and toast and will definitely be returning to try more!
