Chez Mal Brasserie & Bar in Manchester

A short walk from Piccadilly station and a great welcome. Good selection on the menu and nice wine. Didn’t have to wait too long for the food to arrive and it was good. I will definitely go back.

We had a great meal with our family who was visiting. Ingrid was a superb host providing great recommendations of food and drinks. I highly recommend the food and specifically Ingrid. Thank you for making our time here with the family so good.

Several menu items were not available, including no fish of any kind. I ordered a Caesar salad, and chunky chips. The Caesar salad consisted of a little gem lettuce cut in half, with 1/2 a very thin slice of crisp ciabatta poked into each half of lettuce (the croutons) with a tiny amount of very finely grated Parmesan cheese, and 2 anchovy fillets. There was hardly any dressing, and what there was was thin and watery. It’s the worst Caesar salad I’ve ever had. The chunky chips were undercooked, with hard lumps of potato inside and covered in masses of sea salt. I had to send the chips back and ate one half of the little gem lettuce. Thankfully, they took it off the bill.

We 4 people had dinner on 2 nights.serice was excellent and food was delicious. Staff were efficient and friendly. We went ther breakfast on the sunday morning at approximately 10.40 ,11.00 closing and were told we had to be out of restaurant by 11 because the had to set tables for lunch.ther was only a few people in the room.It was clear the person we were dealing with did not want to serve us.This was disappointing. Came in for a drink, sat down and nobody came to serve me. Believed it to be table service as it's not the sort of place you would go to order at the bar. No greeting, didn't even acknowledge I was there so left after 10 minutes waiting and gave my custom to the bar next door.

Had lunch here with family, nice inside and the staff were friendly but it's a bit hit and miss after that. The service was awful very slow in between courses and at one point after chasing staff to order desserts and coffee only part of that order came out and we were chasing again. paying the bill was not better no staff around again. The food was nice but it is over priced for what you get and have eaten much better food in the city. I'm not sure of I would go back I'd like to think it was an off day for staffing

I had dinner after my stay at Chez Mal Lounge and it was great. Meanwhile waiting for my train I ordered a simple fish finger wrap and it was delicious, just what I needed before taking the train and risking any motion sickness. George was truly helpful in the choice, he also made a perfect mint tea and I am truly happy about the service. Overall the staff at Malmaison and Chez Mal were amazing.

Gin was the man! Great food, good service…had the Cajun salmon one night and ribeye was good, however Mac cheese was a little dry.

Rude restaurant staff.. I paid £95 for a meal and drinks. There was a very drunk and noisy table next to us, I mean shouting drunk. I sinply mentioned to the lead waitress how loud and drunk they were, it was disturbing our meal, she just replied sarcastically 'well i can't help how loud they are'. I mean the restaurant was empty, we didn't need to be right next to them. Then when we went to pay the bill we were charged for large wines when we had asked for, and got medium. When i pointed this out to her she said sarcastically again 'well I'm not going to argue with you'. Rude rude rude Never again...

Delicious Fillet Steak! I will definitely be back for their Steak Thursday night! Great selection of gins and wines to compliment the food. Service was very efficient from Ingrid and Remy.

Used to come here quite often - a few years back when I lived basically next door it was a good steakhouse / brasserie Started OK this evening with a nice cauliflower / coconut soup HOWEVER being served my 250 gram ribeye with 'homemade' sauce bearnaise I was presented with a 180 gram steak (max) and a sauce full of coagulated egg yolk. No waiters in sight for several minutes I finally managed to get the attention of a kitchen staff who asked me if I didn't like the sauce... They then brought me a new bea (see photo) which was more of a veloute without any seasoning whatsoever. Now, and this is the unacceptable part; two waitresses, then the chef and finally the restaurant manager all argued that the second sauce was a Bea. No matter how much I tried to explain they would not listen (not atypical for today's restaurants in the UK) Finally, trust me I know a Bea - being born and raised in a classic restaurant and trained as a chef. I asked to pay for my soup, my AF beer and left promising to post a review - so here you are Chez Mal - I will never ever return.

I’d decided to book afternoon tea at Malmaison for 6 people, as my friend had previously had afternoon tea at the Malmaison in new castle. I booked over the phone, but had to call to move my booking due to train strikes which the staff was understanding about. When we arrived we were directed to our table, and asked if we had any allergies. I informed the server that I was vegan, something I’d specified when I booked over the phone as I’m always overly curious. We were presented with an old paper drinks menu stapled together, and one of my friends realised their cup and cutlery was dirty. I was then informed that they would be unable to cater to me as they didn’t have the vegan option available, and that they weren’t aware that there was a vegan in the party. I was then accused of having made a mistake when I made the booking online - but I clarified that I’d done this over the phone and had made it very clear. Unfortunately we were unable to have our afternoon tea because they couldn’t feed me (though said they could cater to the non vegans). In the end we found somewhere else to eat (though it wasn’t the afternoon tea we had planned for). The experience was really disappointing, as I had been looking forward to the day, and upsetting that I’d been accused of being in the wrong. Not impressed at all.

We wanted a nice 'early doors' dinner and I had noticed Chez Mal's Prix frie offer. Plus, I have a Canal Street card and that gave us a discount off. Pili was superb, friendly and efficient as was the gentleman who I assume was the food manager, who ensured that our meal was good, which it was. Good food and fabulous cocktails, well recommend.

Went for a nice meal as a couple and really enjoyed it. One of the best steaks we have had in a long time! Remy was brilliant and so attentive and friendly. Food came out quickly and nothing was too much hassle. It's very central so easy to get to and find. Good value for money

My work colleague was staying at the hotel so I met her for dinner. We had the fixed menu before 6.30pm, this wasn’t originally given to us even though we did sit down at 6pm & then when the bill came they only had counted one meal from the fixed menu which made a approx £15 difference to the bill. I couldn’t fault the food, the cobb salad was exceptional & the sticky toffee pudding delicious. Drinks were also good. Service was a bit hit & miss, we seemed to have a variety of staff serving our table so possibly this impacted on the bill confusion. Would definitely return though.

Staff pleasant, shame that the food let it down; had drinks but little choice of mains; opted for macaroni cheese and it was vile, tasteless slop, little cheese, worst Mac cheese ever!! Booked a Sunday lunch to celebrate 2 birthdays this weekend back in January, arrived at restaurant to find not table ready for us, only 3 others in the restaurant so not busy at all. Given a-la-carte menu, asked for the 3 course Sunday Lunch menu and told they weren’t serving that and they had contacted me to let me know! I have received no communication from this restaurant at all. Incredibly disappointing, expected a better service from here. Will not be back.
