We were a bit apprehensive once we arrived and were shown to the table as the place looked tired and a need of a complete refresh. The table was set without a table cloth but with cutlery on what appeared to be a clean pine table but very sticky to touch. Didn’t really get any authentic French Bistro vibe about the place. Our apprehension was followed by disappointment when we asked about the Prix Fixe menu which we were told was only available as lunch times. The reason we booked the restaurant was that we wanted pre-theatre a dinner and the fixed price menu is offered on the website without any small print and so seemed ideal especially for a booking at 16.45pm. So, instead of going elsewhere, we decided to stay and order of the A la Carte menu. We shared a Vegetarian pancake which was very good. However my wife Beef Bourguignon was over seasoned and too salty whilst my lamp steak was delicious. It is not a good experience when one person is enjoying their meal but the other is totally disappointed with theirs. We kept swapping our plates to share the experience – good and bad. All in all, l we ended up spending nearly £100 for 1 shared starter, two mains with two glasses of wine. A bit expensive for what it was. Service was reasonable but disappointing first and last visit.

Absolutely stunning food and service. Tonight we couldn’t choose between starters and mains so we had three of the most delicious starters you could imagine. The tomato and red pepper soup was a gorgeous silky texture with the emphasis on the red pepper. The pork and rabbit terrine was unbelievable. It was moist and tasty with delicious onion marmalade. The scallops to follow with cauliflower puree and capers and raisins were divine. An inspirational combination of flavours. What a wonderful place to eat in and with the most dedicated staff Samantha and Cedric and a fantastic chef/owner Guru. We are so lucky to have somewhere like Chez Lindsay.

This is a charming little local French restaurant. The service was very good and the ambience was lovely, only a few tables but a nice atmosphere. What stood out though was the food. I've eaten in many Michelin star restaurants including Le Gavroche, and I can honestly say the food here was better. The Magret de Canard was a masterpiece of fine dining, the balance of flavours, textures and presentation was amazing. The scallops for starter was divine as well, beautiful rich flavours and perfectly seasoned. Highly recommended.

The food and service is great. The atmosphere is suitable for a relaxed lunch, however, the decor could do with some work. It does feel like you are eating in an office canteen. The tables are too big and could do with some white table cloths. In the evening, the lighting is awful. However, it does fill with people who clearly know their food. Few touches here and there and this could be great.

Booked on recommendation of friends to entertain visitor from Sweden. What a complete disappointment. Clearly understaffed the service was very slow. When the food eventually arrived the escargots were cold and had to be returned. All three main courses 2 duck and 1 steak were overcooked and dry. It was as if the food had been sitting under a heater in the kitchen for some time! The waiters really did not seem bothered so we just ate what was in front of us - paid and left!! Very very poor attitude. We will not be returning.

A very disappointing experience, overall, especially for the price they charge. Came here, looking at the rating on Google and that was a huge mistake. The key issue is food, which was just bad. I visited tens of French restaurants and bistro all across France and other countries, and the quality of food here was, probably, the worst. Our main course was Magret de Canard (Duck Breast), it was very tough and dry. The waiting time was also very bad, we had to wait almost 45 minutes till we got the main course. We paid £93 for everything, which was very high for the quality we got. Avoid!

We were looked after well from the minute we arrived, waiting patiently (but not hovering) whilst we made our choices... The seafood galettes were perfect, the cheeseboard interesting and the wine excellent. This (together with service that was friendly and attentive without being intrusive and a bill which was very reasonable) set the evening off on an excellent path. Overpriced and stingy. Seemed promising - nice location and took our order quickly. Beef bourgignon came with 2 new potatoes cut in half! Duck breast was small, overcooked and extremely tough which was a shame for £30. Nobody asked how the food was until they came to take the plates away and I said the duck was very dry. The waitress said sorry but didn’t say she’d let the chef know. Everyone else seemed to be having the galettes which looked nice and were less than half the price of meat main courses.

A very average and pretty underwhelming dining experience. Those who praise it so highly need to venture out more and experience really good food and service if they think this place is ‘befitting Royalty’ Here’s what I liked: • I liked that I made the decision not to have a main course. Here’s what I didn’t like: • Not particularly welcoming. • No bread offered. First time in a French restaurant I’ve experienced this. • Uncomfortable seating and not a well thought layout. Why the covid screens still? Unsightly, ineffective and out of place now. • Really disappointing fish soup. Warm, not hot. The croutons were clearly not fresh and from a packet. Lacked crunch. Tiniest portion of cheese and rouille. I’ve hand on heart had better from a jar (and wouldn’t be surprised if this was as well) • The Sea Bass should have been served on a bigger plate and it seems to have been fried and then put in an oven. Average at best but the new potatoes were a tasteless waste of space. • The ‘pomme frites’ were soggy and not particularly crisp. Clearly frozen. Ketchup was some cheap brand and not particularly nice either. • Usual heavy mark up on sparkling water. Overall a disappointment as I had been looking forward to trying this Richmond restaurant. Do I recommend going? NO Will I go again? NO Was it good value? NO Price point: $$

Called in for a bite to eat after walking past and liking the look of the place - perfect cosy French bistro with a framed view to the rear of the Thames through a leafy tree. Service was spot on as was the food accompanied by 2 very good glasses of french wine bought by the glass. We both chose buckwheat pancakes (Galette), one with goats cheese, one with smoked salmon which were just right for a light bite late afternoon followed by crepes for dessert and coffee - again very good. Just over £60 in total, well worth it.

There were 18 of us and Lindsay provided us with an excellent choice of food and wine from her menu just for us. We had numerous chats about which food we wanted to offer our guests and the best wine for those choices and of course champagne to start with. The function room was nicely decorated and every one of our guests loved the food and the entire setup. The staff were very efficient and courteous and we just didn't want to leave. This is a Breton restaurant, so a focus on savoury Galettes and sweet crepes (ie Pancakes either savoury or sweet) which make for a very pleasant cost-effective meal in a French environment. Disappointing and overpriced, this was our first visit and we won’t be back. The service was a little cold - no smiles and not particularly friendly. The staff were attentive at topping up our champagne but the speed of taking our food orders was slow and the mains felt like they took an age to be served. I was also served the wrong soup at the start. The champagne was the highlight of our meal. Both starters were ok, but we’ve definitely had better French onion soup and baked Camembert. The main courses were mostly a big let down and at £27.50 each far too expensive for the quality of cooking. The chicken with sauce was enjoyable, but unfortunately the accompanying potato fondant was completely raw and inedible in the middle which spoilt the meal. The confit duck was a huge let down - small, extremely dry and over cooked. My partner ate it purely out of hunger rather than enjoyment. They removed a coca-cola from our bill for the raw potato fondant. This was appreciated but I expected a better gesture than this in all honesty. We skipped desserts and headed to Five Guys down the road for a burger afterwards, as we left hungry and unsatisfied.

Nice little restaurant but with rather cramped tables mostly in a basic set up at the back of the building. Starters were excellent with good quality fresh seafood - we especially liked the oysters - and a nice French style fish soup. The galettes were decent (how can you mess up a pancake?) but are more expensive than in other French restaurants in London. Disappointed with the mixed seafood pancake which was lots of mackerel with a few mussels and baby clams. Not only is it pretty difficult to eat a mackerel pancake but I have never been served mackerel in a mixed seafood option before. Although I imagine if they advertised it as a mackerel pancake no one would order it. Deserts were nice. Service OK although they mostly huddled in the front having a good natter well away from the customers plonked at the back. Would have got 4 stars for the food if it wasn't for the mackerel!

It's not always easy to find a place that is located in a picturesque corner of town without being over crowded, able to provide outstanding service without being condescending and superb quality food without being ludicrously over priced.Chez Lindsay has managed to tick all the boxes. Like a true lady, it doesn't seek the same overhyped attention of the neighbouring Ivy or the Scott's, but instead it's maintaines the same level of dining experience that comes with true class. The menu is both unique and 'diner friendly ' by combining authentic ingredients in a way that most will find something they would enjoy. The service is impeccable and settling relaxing without lacking the formalities of the French cuisine. Set just near enough to the beautiful river walk before or after your meal it's blessed with a quiet that goes well with a special meal.

This is a really special place and we were wondering why it has us taken so long to actually try it: Usually it's full when we walk past! It was also fully booked the Friday evening a few weeks ago but this time we had booked in advance because my wife had won a generous voucher that Chez Lindsay had donated to a local cause - it was fittingly the first prize. And halfway through our meal I said to my wife that I wanted to pay and just return the voucher: I really felt they more than deserved paying, it is such a thoroughly enjoyable experience from the way you are treated, to the ambiance, to the food (of course). It's very good value, too. They insisted on us keeping the voucher and returning to spend it next time which we will - for my birthday this coming week! This time the whole family. I think this restaurant could become our go-to for all special occasions.

I came here for my birthday, service was spot on and my 1 year old had lots of fun. The seafood is spot on and the French onion soup is very good too so recommend that and the mussels and crab. Surprisingly the grape juice was also a winner - we're glad we got the large pitcher. A good alternative to those who can't/don't want to drink alcohol. My only issue were the mains, my partner ordered steak medium rare but it was more medium. I ordered the duck confit and it looked like it'd be deep fried too much, the outside was dry and stiff. Inside, it wasn't any better, as it was clearly overcooked and very salty! It was almost like eating cured duck. My potatoes were also overly deep fried, very oily. Even with the pickled veg, it was hard to eat. It seems the meat station failed this day as everything else was on point. Very disappointing considering the mains were not cheap. I recommend appetisers but avoid mains as they seem inconsistent.

I ordered moules and they were full of sand (which is very surprising for a Bretton cuisine resto). My friend had a bavette steak and it was ok. Staff balanced on the verge of being rude, and the place is a little dirty (sticky tables etc.). Not terrible, but definitely not as brilliant as its ratings suggest

The new menu at Chez Lindsay is absolutely fantastic. There are so many delicious dishes it’s hard to choose between them. Lindsay’s cooking is amazing. The flavours, textures, colours and taste of the dishes are wonderful. The service is superb - friendly, professional and efficient....

Lovely atmosphere. Had a rather simplistic Galette for supper after miles of walking. Would order something more substantial next time.

My favourite restaurant in Richmond. The food is worth every penny, and the Breton classics are outstanding.

Chez Lindsay is a wonderful little gem in Richmond. I can’t speak to much of the menu as a vegetarian, but the galettes are absolutely delicious. Wine menu is solid with no poor choices (though no adventurous ones either. The service is also attentive and polite.

How long has Chez Lindsay been going? If my memory is correct, decades. That kind of longevity, particularly with a pandemic thrown into the mix, is rare. But there's a good reason that this place is still going strong; it's just a great place. The...
