Le Salon Prive in Richmond upon Thames

We love le Salon Privé. Gianluca is a wonderful chef and an even better human being. He helped us put on a brilliant event for our wedding just last week. Food was delicious, the ambiance rocking, and the cocktails on point.

Lovely French restaurant at the heart of St Margaret’s! We felt a little lonely upon arrival at 6 pm on a Saturday night, but it seems the place started buzzing around 8 pm. I wish more people knew, how good this cosy restaurant is, the owner should really advertise and promote more! The quality of food served and the amount of attention we’ve got were above expectations. I had scallops for starters and stolen a bite of soufflé from my son’s plate. Both dishes were very aesthetically pleasing and unbelievably tasty. The mains were on par, to our satisfaction. There are few things that might be worth fixing : it’s freezing in powder room and more frequent cleaning might be a good idea, plus, the coffee machine was broken on the day. Otherwise, it was great dining, thank you!

We nearly all ate the daily special menu and it was really excellent. Nothing but praise from a group of seven! Good terrine, excellent gravlax were precursors to good beef bourgignon, delicious lamb and excellent fish. South African white wine was not expensive but excellent.

Went to this place having not been for a very long time and it is still a lovely restaurant. I took my parents on one of the ‘bring your own’ nights in midweek which made it much more affordable. The menu is good and varied, the staff are very friendly and helpful, my only disappointment was that it just didn’t feel like the fine dining experience I thought it might be. That’s not to say it’s not good, the food just didn’t blow me away.

It's a comfortable, well laid out French restaurant. The food is ok. After a disappointing scallop starter, I had a very good fresh fish with a nice house wine. The place had absolutely no life in the atmosphere it didn't help that when we arrived the empty room smelt of cleaning products not food. The service was attentive, and the bill was reasonable.

Even though we live locally we haven't been here for some time but it was still as good as the last time. We arrived without a reservation but were shown to a nice table in the corner by an attentive, friendly waiter. The menu is a typically affair with a few adjustments since were were last here. We had scallops with pulled pork and a beetroot dish to start then monkfish , all were cooked to perfection with delicious light sauces to accompany them, vegetables were fresh and crisp. The portions are just the right size so you don't feel you have overeaten when you leave. We had a couple of glasses each of red and white wines, which were smooth and well priced. The chef, Gianluca came out to welcome us and we will definitely be going back with friends.

Absolutely love this place. the menu selection is full of beautiful seasonal dishes cooked to perfection. Its a gem of a restaurant that we are so lucky to have in our neighbourhood ♥️

Went here for the first married meal with my wife. Food was so exquisite I had to speak to the chef and compliment his food. I would thoroughly recommend the beef bourguignon.

This is a genuinely classy neighbourhood restaurant, so it was a little surprising (though not important) that no-one offered to take our coats and umbrella when we arrived. The layout is great, with comfortable chairs and tables well arranged round a spacious interior (once a butcher's shop, but you would never guess). It was reasonably full, for a wet Saturday night, but didn't feel crowded. Other customers, mostly couples, but one Japanese party, seemed to be enjoying themselves as much as we did. The food was first-class. We were also a little surprised not to have the menu du jour brought to us without asking: though it was a special occasion for us, and we were very happy to eat a la carte, it was our first visit, and we were curious. The starters were both delicious (we shared Pan-fried Scallops, pulled pork, celeriac puree, hazelnuts & saffron sauce and Pheasant terrine, foie gras, apple puree, pickled cherries & brioche). For main dishes, my wife had roast monkfish, which she said was extremely good too, as was my saddle of lamb with truffled potatoes. The desserts (honeycomb cheesecake and home-made madeleines) were excellent, and the presentation was superb all round. Service was attentive, without being oppressive. Value for money was very good: we paid just under £165 for three courses each, with 25 cl of rose for my wife, and for me 50 cl of a quite superior Rhone, which I was surprised and delighted to find being sold in less than a bottle: I also had a small glass of an even more superior sauternes with my dessert. We shall certainly be coming back: this looks like becoming our new favourite restaurant, after the sad demise of the Glasshouse at Kew.

Terrible service “ very cold inside we were provided an electric heater “ apart from oysters and snails the food was very basic and over priced for what it was . Have Lived in France for many years so I know how French food should be prepared . This was very very disappointing “oh and we didn’t see any French staff or personnel .is the Chef French ?

This nice looking restaurant has the potential to be much better. The main downside with every dis was the seasoning for me. The quality of the food was good but they lacked flavour.

We have eaten many times over the years but unfortunately had found the food very average and quality poor. After reading a recent article it seemed they had new owners and the chef had worked with Pierre Koffmann the 3 star chef we thought we were in for a gastronomic treat, how wrong we were. The food I can honestly say was just not good and not worth the money. The foie gras was horrible, was oxidised and old and had been frozen. The veal chop I ordered Medium rare and was served a thin T bone of veal which was very much overcooked. I almost felt sorry for the waiter, he said he told the chef to cook it medium rare. Other dishes were of a similar standard. The best dish was the dauphinois potato. It is a real shame, we definitely won’t be returning.

What a gorgeous place! Small and intimate with a beautiful wine and food menu! For any foodies out there this is a great find and delight on the taste buds! Great service, menu and location!

5th but the last time! We really looked forward to our meal out without the kids at a restaurant which we would have always recommended to friends but unfortunately NOT ANYMORE! First impressions Upon being seated after getting my wife her drink I had to wait an age to be asked for my own order even though there was only 3 tables of customers. When asked for our food order we said that we weren't having starters & just mains to which we were told that it would be a long wait going straight to mains. A very strange answer! Food Bread & Butter - This used to be lovely but now to go with the lovely bread instead of the previous home made pepper Butter they are trying to pass off FAKE SPREADABLE BUTTER! This is obvious because butter when cool is firm & this alternative was soft when cold & a different consistency & of course taste from real butter! Chateaubriand - We asked for medium rare, it was rare (see picture). We didn't send it back as you cant cook this meal more when it's already sliced. Meat was good quality still thankfully. Spinach (pictured)- A watery mess that wasn't done right to remove the moisture but not the butter! Bone Marrow Sauce - A very good sauce. Mustard, Mustard or Mustard (pictured) This was the biggest let down from both waiter & Chef! I asked for Djon, the waiter returned from the kitchen with Wholegrain. I told the waiter that it was wholegrain & that I asked for Djon, he went back to the kitchen & returned from the kitchen with cheap rip off English mustard. I challenged the waiter about this & his words were "the chef said that it's the same as Djon". Obviously I didn't believe this & he looked like he thought the same but after laughing & saying that he should get the chef out to tell us that (to which he ignored), we just asked for the bill. Wine A good Bordeaux. A shame of an experience which we really wanted to be like the previous visits but clearly something bad had occurred

Awful experience tonight. Loud England rugby supporters completely ruined our wedding anniversary. Couldn’t even hear my wife across the table. I know it is difficult for staff but by not dealing with it they allowed every other customer to have their experience wrecked. When you go to a French bistro you expect a certain experience and we did not get it . If I had gone to a pub to eat I would understand it being noisy but not at Le Salon Prive. We will not be going here again.

Heard about this hidden gem only recently. It's definitely worth a visit. The cheese souffle and the fish were absolutely perfect. Even the bread, a simple baguette, was amazing. The service was excellent and efficient as well.

A lovely meal with my boyfriend for his birthday. I had the lamp rump for main it was 10/10 , we had a starters and shared a pudding and all the food was amazing ! The ambience was intimate and calm and perfect for an evening dinner. The staff were kind and welcoming.

Went just before covid and finally made it back again tonight. What a wonderful fine dining experience. We did the Tuesday Chateaubriand deal and it was stunning, tasty, and generously portioned. My wife had the chocolate fondant for pudding and said it was the best she had ever had. Service friendly and perfectly timed. We had house red and it was smooth and hit the spot. We like a special meal with linen and excellent friendly service and great food and we enjoyed that here. Thank you Gianluca and your colleagues. see you very soon - with our friends. We hired the beautiful downstairs restaurant for a celebratory family lunch after a wedding. The restaurant manager and chef were extremely helpful prior to the function, advising on the menu, table layout and timings. On the day the canapes and three course meal were delicious, the staff very attentive and the room looked beautiful.

We went to Le Salon Prive for my sister’s hen party and had a gorgeous meal in our own private dining room. The atmosphere was fantastic and the service was great. All our dietary requirements were met too. Would HIGHLY recommend! Thank you so much for a great evening!

Another great meal with family and glad to see the white table cloths back! Not many restaurants have white table cloths, so please do keep it on. It makes the restaurant feel even more special and cosy and set the atmosphere to enjoy the delicious food cooked by Chef Gianluca. Yummy seabass with fries for my son (his favourite dish) and very nice barley risotto and ravioli. We enjoyed everything. Many thanks to Le Salon Prive team for the beautiful lunch.

As a party of 5 celebrating 2 birthdays we decided to push the boat out. The bread and butter that was first to the table was beautiful. We ordered nice fresh oysters lovely and the souffle which was beautiful and lush, so much better than the lackluster ham hock terrine. We followed them by 2x Château Briand which were cooked to perfection. The sea bass was quite unpleasant with a strong fishy taste and smell. The mille-feuille was a bit underwhelming, small and bland.

First time last night, top notch food service and ambience. You pay a bit more but I thought it was outstanding. Looking forward to my next visit already.

Whenever I am in the area, I enjoy eating in this charming restaurant. I love the various vegetarian options that the menu offers, particularly the cheese soufflé. I highly recommend the delicious food cooked by Chef Gianluca.

Underwhelming is the word. As a French living in the area, I was quite hype for this venue, I went for my birthday. The cooking seems to be very much targeting English tastebuds and did not carry me to France whatsoever, and nothing was impressive either. For the same price tag you can simply find better in the area. They did arrange to do some kid meal for my son which enjoyed it and that’s appreciated. But for me and my wife it was really a disappointment. With low expectations it could still set for a nice, albeit overpriced, place to eat. Was really such a disappointing birthday meal. Might give it a second chance in the future.

A totally disappointing experience, which ruined a birthday dinner. Waiter argued about a complaint regarding food which did not arrive and the quality of two dishes. He escalated the situation, instead of diffusing it. No apology, or effort to rectify or acknowledge the shortfall. A shame, as we have been many times previously and will now not go back.

Although this review is about our Christmas Day experience, it’s important to explain how and why we came to book a table in the first place. In November we decided to take a close friend with extreme dietary requirements to lunch at Le Salon Prive. The chef, Gianluca, was exceptionally attentive to our friend’s needs and our lunch was absolutely superb. So much so, that we booked for Christmas Day lunch there and then. Subsequently, we paid a deposit of £100 against a cost of £199 plus wine and service. Our decision was endorsed by friends who had similar positive experiences at the restaurant and so we sat down with high expectations. We were very underwhelmed, finding it mediocre, poorly executed and scarcely worth half what we paid which, after the bill was challenged, came to £221. To paraphrase the offering: tired canapes; three lonely and probably frozen scallops; half-raw pheasant that was returned twice until a fresh one was cooked; pub-lunch roast turkey flooded with gravy; a miniscule serving of Christmas pudding and a cheeseboard scarcely worthy of the name. The supermarket-style mince pies did arrive but the coffee did not! We recognise the pressure of catering for two sittings, however the service was surly with the notable exception of Mohammed. Giancarlo did us the courtesy to discuss things but neglected to offer us a complete refund. We now face a dilemma – do we return or do we not?

Le Salon Privé is a fantastic independent restaurant: the interior, the food, the ambiance and welcome are replete with class. The price is superb value! We highly recommend this place for lunch as well as for dinner.

Very cozy and discreet restaurant decorated with taste. Excellent refined and always innovative cuisine with a delicate taste and also beautiful dishes to look at !! I recommend the snails for those who have never eaten them an experience not to be missed. From appetizer to dessert all delicious the fantastic crème brulé but the cherry clafutie with vanilla ice cream unsurpassed

We recently had our wedding reception at Salon prive. GIanluca has been very accomodating and helpful through the wedding preparation. The food was exceptional and the service was perfect. Thank you so much for this wonderful dinner. We definitely recommend the restaurant for events and private dinings.

Absolutely amazing!! Amazing food and service! A lovely French experience!

I have had the pleasure of dining here many times in the last 20 years (it was called Brula back then). My daughter and I come here for special occasions and we have always enjoyed excellent food and service. This is just a lovely restaurant in the French provincial style; my father and I used to dine in a very similar place called Clichy in Auckland and he would have loved Salon Prive. It is also rather conveniently located very close to one of the best wine and spirits shops in West London, should you wish to carry on celebrating afterwards!

Looked promising, but possibly not the best choice for a large group. Welsh lamb dish was disappointing as was the accompanying potato. The gratin dauphinois tasted of soap. Vanilla ice cream was delicious - saved the day.

Hands down, the best authentically cooked meal we’ve had in London. Food made with love, talent and care. Seasonal and creative.

A really lovely place to meet friends and enjoy delicious food. Not expensive like other restaurants nearby and they have a set menu in the evening too which is great value for money.

This is our second attempt at a review. The first was a one-star review which was submitted but then deleted after reflecting overnight. Our main issue was the coolness of the welcome and general lack of warmth and service attentiveness. However, the food was good....

We recently had our wedding reception here after a recommendation from a friend and a couple of meals beforehand. Food and service is wonderful, the wine list is very reasonable without the inflated prices you seem to find in some restaurants, and the restaurant itself very pretty. Our wedding guests loved the food (and the wine!) and the negronis are pretty good too! Thanks to Gianluca, Renato and the team for helping make our wedding day so special!

We first dined in Le Salon Prive some 3 years ago, the restaurant is still as good. Food was excellent, I recommend the seared Escallops, Escargots de Bourgogne and Pan fried Hake & Bayonne ham rolled Monkfish. The service was a little slow at times...

Please clean the place. I really enjoyed this place as I felt it was out of the way enough to make you feel like you were actually in some remote french town having a meal at your local chop house. The food was fantastic and amazingly prepared by a well known chef. My only gripe was that the place didn't feel all too clean. The wine glasses we received had dust on them and I noticed old cobwebs around the light fixtures near the windows. Would have been 5 stars if not for that.

Our third time here, the food is great, good veggi menu, not cheap but good value for a special night out. Book, don't just drop in.

Just paid over £54 pounds for a dry very small steak with NO sides and dry cake.... Staff look down on you. Don't waste your money So many better places near. Why waste £54 on a meal for one mid week...

We had our wedding celebration at Le Salon Prive back in October. Absolutely fantastic dishes, service and atmosphere ! Chef Jan Luca is amazing chef. We definitely will recommend this place for family celebrations. Our guests enjoyed food very much.Children dishes were a big success .Even fussy eaters children haven’t left anything on the plate.

In such different times the staff catered for us brilliantly with a delicious three course Xmas lunch! Great atmosphere and the private dining room was perfect for our company.

Went for roast beef. Worst roast dinner I have ever had. The gravy tasted like pure oil/grease. Gave my comments to the waiter/chef but not recognised. Never again.

This was a meet up with local friends who are regulars here. Our first time and we were not disappointed. The menu choices were first rate, good choice set menu if you are on a budget but the a la carte had everything. The lamb...

I think our expectations were a little too high which isn't necessarily fair on the restaurant. The freshly baked bread with caper butter was delicious, however, I think the oil is due a change as both the crispy hen egg and fries were tainted with a slightly unusual flavour.

We had a juicy and melt-in-your-mouth Chateaubriand and lovely liver parfait with the most genuine crispy just-baked baguette. Service was great and complemented the great food and wine.

We had a lovely meal. It was my son's birthday and staff were friendly and helpful if a little inexperienced. Food was good. Wine list offered a range of price points. All in all an enjoyable evening.

First visit wasn’t very good, we gave it another chance. This time we wish we hadn’t.Ordered the roast beef with the extra supplement of £2.00. Asked the waiter what cut of beef it was, he said it was ribeye. What they served was silverside which is half the price of ribeye. I don’t have a problem with silverside I just don’t like the restaurant trying to lie and trying to rip off customers. When I told the waiter this was not ribeye he gave a look and then said the ribeye never arrived. The rest of the meal was very average, especially the soggy crispy fried egg that was supposed to be crispy? Can’t see ourselves giving this place a third visit.

We love this restaurant and go frequently. It's so nice that it has reopened post-lockdown and we were overjoyed to go back. The food is exemplary good portion sizes and really well cooked. The service is excellent and attentive. Definitely the best restaurant in the area. Go there!

We couldn’t have chosen better. The food was superb and very good value. Three courses for two for less than £ 60, but the price was immaterial, we wanted quality and got it. Rib eye steak cooked to perfection. Sea bream with fries and perfectly cooked green vegetables followed by lemon tart and a delicious panacotta.

Another amazing dinner delivered by the chef Gianluca can’t wait for the restaurant to open so we can sit in to enjoy top quality food and service!

Had first delivery today a roast beef Sunday lunch for my mum as she didn’t feel well and I wanted to cheer her up. It literally made her day and she said it was amazing ! Great portion fresh vegetables and roast potatoes all extremely tasty and the owner/chef Gianluca was an absolute pleasure to deal with . Fantastic service and lovely takeaway during the pandemic. You don’t often associate french food with takeaway but it’s actually really nice to have nutritious and tasty food. Great value too, really impressed.

Decided on a takeaway for Le Salon to celebrate my wife's birthday. An excellent choice on the menu and we went for endive salad (her) and ham hock terrine (me) as starters followed by coq au vin for both of us. Decided against pudding as we doubted we could manage it. It was ready bang on time when i collected and smelt delicious. Very happy with results - the starters were very generous as was the main course - in fact we did struggle to finish but considered it to be our bounden duty to do so! Excellent value for money too. We will repeat the experience as there is a new menu coming out for March and are now looking forward to dining on the premises when we can. An excellent choice and we can strongly recommend this establishment.

Wow wow wow! We’ve had the pleasure of eating in this restaurant a few times but had no idea they had pivoted to do home delivery during lockdown. All I can say is this is the best thing we’ve eaten since lockdown began!

We ordered a three course meal for two people and the items arrived hot, beautifully presented and they were delicious. We had only seen good reviews on local neighbourhood groups and just regret it has taken us this long to try their food. Highly recommend for a quality delivery option.

In these days when we cannot visit restaurants in person, we were very grateful that they deliver so we can enjoy it in the safety of our own homes. Liked the cod and courgette, and the food was well-seasoned with generous portions.
