Côte Brasserie - Barnes in Richmond upon Thames

Sound spot for an informal night out: quite a large restaurant, about half full on a Monday night. Helpful and friendly staff. Good main course and dessert portions; starters perhaps less so, so be careful of going for 2-3 starters rather than mains. House wines available in carafes from 175ml to 1L.

Great place by the Green in Barnes. Had been to the Boat race and just wanted a drink so we asked if we could and were in a friendly manner told yes of course. We sat outside and had a delicious hot chocolate each. Such friendly service and cannot thank server Mishal for great hot chocolate and service. Thank you.

Review based on multiple visits. Consistent service and good food. I appreciate the unassuming nature of the staff as well as the changing and dynamic menus. This location fits very nicely into the area. Strongly outperforms other branches I’ve eaten at over the years. Definitely worth a visit!

The evening started out very well with my family , we had a lovely meal with drinks and our waiter was very helpful and polite. Unfortunately after receiving gift cards for my birthday to pay for our meal the manager incharge took my vouchers and returned to the table to confirm the payment was completed. As I was about to walk out the door she rudely approached my table Infront of other diners and told me I owed her more money. After returning to the counter to find out what the problem was she confirmed their was no mistake and abruptly told me everything was fine. No apology , abrupt and not hospitable at all . Customer service training is required as this was a very embarrassing encounter for me and my family , especially Infront of a full restaurant A real shame

After a rocky patch a year or so ago this place seems to be well back on track. Will be back for another lunch soon!

Amazing venue. Food was good, but nothing special. We all Enjoyed our meals but the best part was service. Our waitress Melanie was exceptional. Great menu knowledge, always smiling and really friendly and helpful. Will be back for sure. Highly recommend.

Brilliant branch of Côte and very family friendly! The children's menu is great and good value and our kids love going there. Halim is a fantastic asset to the team and we are always so happy when he is there and serving our table because he is the kindest, most attentive, friendly person ever and my children think he is wonderful!

Crab starter was watery, bland and unseasoned. I couldn’t taste any of the (alleged) ingredients. My main was over seasoned, almost to the point of inedible. Our server (Melanie?) was exceptional: extremely attentive, organised, efficient and friendly. She deserves better than being asked to present food as carelessly assembled as this.

I always enjoy a visit to Cote Barnes. Made to feel welcome and can choose your table. Staff friendly and helpful and you are told if a staff member is being monitored/under instruction so that you can make allowances for any small demeanours.

Lovely restaurant located next to Barnes pond. We dropped in for lunch. The food was delicious and the decor stunning. The service was variable.

We received a warm welcome and service throughout the evening was friendly and efficient. One of the waiters was great with a kid on one of the other tables too. We enjoyed our steak and mussels and it seemed like good value for money. May try one of the other branches in the future.

We went to celebrate a wedding anniversary and the staff couldn't have been nicer to us, which made our evening. You know what you'll get with Cote, foodwise, but it was good and the service swift and efficient.

I really loved this Cote. The setting was lovely especially on a hot day . The three waiters who served us were so nice and attentive, Mohammed and another man and woman I forget name! The steaks I ordered wasn’t amazing quality for the price but the Chocolate Mousse was so good and the belly pork . I will definitely go again !

I love the stylish interior of Côte Brasserie and the food choices are great and affordable too! Always nice to visit, would just love to see that Espresso Martini pancake on the dessert menu again, as that was one of the best desserts I had in my life!

Halim our waiter couldn’t have been more friendly or attentive. He was brilliant with my children and thanks to him we have a wonderful experience when we go for children’s tea. We will definitely be back, if only everyone there was as friendly!

Food is good and well priced. Unfortunately service was underwhelming, staff forgot to bring the hors d’œuvre as part of the new menu before telling us there was a shortage of baguette (without apologies or offering something else). No discount of apologies with the bill, not that we will ever return anyway.

Have used Côte both in Richmond and Barnes over the years - the former has always been a notch above, but Barnes acceptable enough. Not last night. The waitress tried hard enough and we were looked after fairly well, however the food was unacceptable. En route to a show, therefore time was not on our side. We all had Crab as a starter - it barely tasted of Crab and was obviously 'diluted' with Tuna. One out of four meals was acceptable - my Lamb Rump was a cut of meat I'd have just given to my dog, with excess fat, gristle and wonderful bunch of blood vessels. Never again, Côte, sorry.

Disappointed with the cleanliness of the 3 toilets

We often visit cote and have been to many across London and the suburbs. It’s always a reliable place and good for a family. Barnes Cote was disappointing. The main stay of the staff are super young and not trained properly. They are struggling to keep up with the pace and the whole meal felt a bit tense and chaotic. I won’t be returning.

Fabulous family lunch on a beautiful sunny day. The fish stew was incredible and so was the service! We'll be back..

Went to Cote Barnes for dinner. We settled at our table and were given the list of things that were unavailable including the burger. This is the second time we have been here and key menu items were unavailable. We had a drink and then went to order our wine. After quite a wait we were told it was unavailable - the house Rose. The other bottle we were offered was £8 more. When we were given the desert menu we were also told that an item was unavailable. The restaurant was not full but they seem to have a stock problem. My quiche was lookwarm at best and under seasoned. The chips were not the usual frites but more like chunky chips. The rest of the food was fine and the service was very efficient and friendly. Disappointing as I used to love Cote but missed the mark today.

Breakfast Served quickly but then it was not hot, barely warm. Tea cup and tea pot not washed properly. Lack of attention to detail- one of the items we asked for was never delivered (not charged either) , one item that we asked to be slightly modified (no crest) arrived with crest, another - bacon - we asked to be really crispy - delivered just about cooked. No butter for toast, probably not important for most but I don’t enjoy toasts with no butter at all.

Food was generally good. Avocado on my toast was a small portion but everyone’s poached eggs were lovely. Service good but four pots of tea were served with no lids! This meant it went cold very quickly. Obviously short staffed as I had to find the server to get more water.

Birthday brunch. This was our second & last visit to Cote. I’ve been been to many different branches of Cote without any problems. However the restaurant was empty on arrival in a Saturday late morning, was probably an obvious sign. My eggs were well undercooked, gluey type appearance & cold, then served in a soggy piece of untoasted sourdough cold bread. When we expressed concerns we was told that was how eggs are served. The other two full English breakfasts was also served cold, then having to request condiments after service whilst the food as already served cold just added to the experience. As a table a four we had to send one inedible breakfast back, which returned after the rest of us had finished & was then hard boiled poached eggs. We was charged in full, they added a service charge, we paid, left & wont be returning again.

Went in for Sunday Brunch, first time since pandemic, brunch deal is no more which was very missed - menu has reduced

This is the second time recently that the steak / frites on the 3 course menu is of such bad quality. We could hardly cut it even with a serrated knife. This is the second time that we have had such bad quality meat. The staff and everything else was very good but sad about the meat.

Great location overlooking the green and duck pond . Welcoming professional service with good menu choices and food well cooked and presented. Particularly tasty mushroom and thyme sauce with my grilled chicken though I was torn between choosing that or the beef cheek. Cote has always delivered a very good experience for us and is great value.

Staff were friendly and accommodating and the service was excellent. The food on the other hand was very average. We had the onion soup to start and the cheese and crouton topping at clearly been charred but possibly a little bit too much! There was a burnt artificial taste to it. The soup had more than likely been microwaved as there was a slight inconsistency to the temperature throughout. The mains were again very average and tasted like the majority of sauce based ingredients had been microwaved. Whilst the food was tasty nothing was overly fresh.

Didn’t have any food at home so decided to try Cote for a quick Monday night meal. I had steak tartare and my wife had a fillet steak both with chips. While the service was quick and friendly, the hot food was cold and portion sizes underwhelming… Steak tartare came as a stack with toasted bread, plus bottles of Worcester and Tobasco, but no egg on top, and the contents (capers etc..) were already mixed in. Fir pudding the Rum Baba had no rum and the Chocolate Merveillieu’s chocolate sauce pot was almost empty. To go with it we had 2 glasses of wine, all for £130! Plus one of the waiters, not ours, had body odour, which could be smelt when he walked past Shame

We went to Côte for a family lunch. The food was amazing- I ordered steak with watercress and frites, it was delicious. The desserts were amazing too. All the food was very well-presented and arrived quickly. Additionally, the service there is amazing- we had great staff throughout the trip. We enjoyed the ambiance as well- the restaurant has good views of Barnes Pond from the wide windows. Overall definitely recommended

Excellent child friendly atmosphere during the day. My small son is visually impaired and finds strong sunlight disturbing, and the waiter moved the whole group to a shaded tabled to help him. Food os excellent, and the manager attentive to a happy team. Probably the best restaurant in the area.

Lovely location, very good value meal deals and excellent staff make this a regular venue for us. I've been to many of their branches but this is my favourite. They made a slight error with an order yesterday and immediately comped our second bottle of wine. Given the first was free in the January meal deal it ended up a very reasonable boozy lunch!

I have had very good experience es with the Cote restaurants at both Chiswick and the Barbican. Not so much here. The staff were pleasant, as always, but there was not the sense of military precision that I have experienced at the other branches. More...

Good all round family dinner for a weekday dinner

The food is below average. We got the burgers on the old, hard buns and overoll burger assemled to make it as cheap as possible for the restaurant. The location is good, bear the park. That's actually the only thing what is good abot this place. Not a great place to have a tasty food.

This place had a great ambiance and is in a fantastic location, especially for warmer weather. The food beef cheek was cooked to perfection and the wine recommendation was delicious. Couldn’t mark this place down at all it was brilliant 🤩

We had one issue with food but the staff were so polite about it and fixed the problem promptly that we wouldn’t fault them for it, mistakes happen. The way they reacted completely resolved it. The atmosphere of this restaurant is great and this place is the perfect balance of both quality food, but also affordable prices. I want to say a special thanks to the waitress April who served us. She was polite, perceptive and professional, and even overhead it was my birthday so arranged a free desert to be brought out to me whilst singing happy birthday. Honestly, my birthday evening was great thanks to this meal out, so thank you April and also thank you to the team at Côte Barnes!

Surprisingly good and great value.

Had a large dinner party of of 20 guests and the staff were incredible. I can't thank them enough. Ambience was lovely and the food was top quality as usual. Thanks to Lucy and her team for everything they did that evening.

Great selection of mains and starters with food served hot and well seasoned. Service was pleasant enough with friendly staff in attendance. All round very encouraged to return and sample other delights apart from well prepared burger meal with fresh salad I had on this occasion.

Wonderful food and a good atmosphere. But as with other branches of Cote we have visited recently, this restaurant is struggling with massive understaffing, which is leading to extremely long waits for food and drinks, as well as avoidable mistakes with orders.

Absolutely my favourite Cote Brasserie. The staff can't do enough to ensure the customer has a perfect experience. I visited recently was given a lovely table overlooking the pond. Lucy in particular is always so welcoming. Our food was delicious. A perfect evening . Will definitely be returning. very soon.

Enjoyed a late lunch here over the weekend. Service was great, food tasty but small portions and a bit pricey. 3 of us had 3 courses, a bottle of average wine, teas, coffees and port - £200. Overall an enjoyable experience.

Lovely addition to the area. I’ve been very impressed with the quality of food here. My partner has found that ingredients he has previously disliked, he now enjoys thanks to the dishes here. We’ve had to wait quite a while recently until we finally got to order our food, but that was a one off so far. Being from the South of France, it’s nice to have a french restaurant 2 mins from our home. The close location to the pond doesn’t just make for a lovely after meal walk, but also gave us the opportunity to see a swam family wanting to make dinner plans !

Well below any Cote we’ve been to, and below the one in Chiswick. There seems to be zero co-ordination of all the staff. Main course came within one minute of the starter! Then three staff members, one after the other and all within 15 seconds of each other, turned up at our table to ask us how our food was - when we were all clearly in deep conversation. So, had to continuously stop to answer. Once main courses were eaten, it took over 10mins for them to clear the table. Food was good but definitely not the slickest of service!

Good French cuisine and great value from the pre fixe menu. The staff were attentive and clearly enjoy there job. I only wish the main course portions were slightly larger.

Not all Cotes are created equal! The one in Barnes looks great and there is a great atmosphere. We were booked in during a very busy lunch service and the staff couldn’t have been more attentive or friendly despite being rushed off their feet. The food was good, the wine was good, and really, this place is great value for money. I’ll be back!
