Côte Brasserie - Barnes in Richmond upon Thames

Wasn't expecting this to be as good as it was - food excellent- I had the crab for starter and a ribeye- perfect - busy so service was a bit slow but all fine nice staff good atmosphere- will definitely go again wow my new favourite place

What a great location and what poor food in quality. I had the steak frites which was bland, cold and of poor quality. The steak comes wafer thin and the quality of the meat was way below average. Chewy, no flavour and cold. It was so cold that the butter on top of the steak stayed solid! The service was decent and the location of the brassiere is charming.

Booked for the ‘ Sunday roast ‘ for 2 . . .on ordering informed that the Chef had some ‘ disaster ‘ with the Yorkshire’s , but we would be given another vegetable ( green beans) as an offering , and we said , thank you . ( We had ordered the roast chicken ). Presented on the plate , were a chicken leg , and breast Breast , both obviously both not carved from a ‘ Roasted chicken ‘ . It then was even more astounding , whatever the little squares of pan fried ‘ cubes ‘ , I suspect thier version of a roast potato , follow by the individual gravy poured , of which the gravy was so solid that even with a vigorous shake , totally unable to dislodge . When asked for gravy that can be poured , the second attempt we were delivered , poured in blobs . The entire experience was beyond belief .

Sunday lunch here. One of the best Côte that I have been to. Great staff.

THE place to go for a casual lunch or a special occasion in Barnes. They are always friendly, accommodating, and steak tartar is one of the best in town!

Fast food in a would-be posh setting. Would not recommend for a healthy diet, however the service is very good.

We came back to Côte after a few years that we haven't visited any of the chain restaurants. Barnes was the first time. It was a Saturday evening. There was no atmosphere at all the service was really bad I also managed to have one of the waitresses rolling her eyes on me for asking for ketchup & mayonnaise to go with my meal. and the food was really average. we Just wanted to finish the meal and leave. shame on your Cote Barnes!

Disappointed about dinner we paid 140£ for 2 adults and 1 kid, and we were disappointed by the quality of the food, and wine. The steaks weren’t good quality, the brussel sprouts were burnt, the onion soup with comte toast didn’t taste comte at all. The crab / comte toast wasn’t good. And the praline tart was industrial. Disappointing experience. Not coming back for a long time

Food is consistent with most Cotes. The service at this branch isn't as good as others. The waiters aren't on the ball regarding customers needs and are slow to take orders we find.(Happened most times we go) It's a bit of a draughty barn of a place and not really cosy. It's never as busy as it could be for such a good location so maybe other diners feel the same. We want it to succeed but it needs to be tackled by management to give it a shock in the arm.

Absolutely amazing menu, so tippical of the South of France. Beautiful terrine on the snack board. Great wine oist aswell.

Fuimos a cenar a Cote el viernes por la noche y no había estado por un tiempo. Tres de cada cuatro comidas estaban totalmente cocinadas. Quedamos impactados porque en general ha sido bueno a lo largo de los años. Esta experiencia fue muy pobre. El salmón estaba totalmente sobre cocinado y el pollo a la parrilla con salsa de hongos estaba bastante mal.

This is a new place for me. I liked the spacious feeling, there was a lot of room between the tables. The lighting was slightly dinmed which was nice. The wine list had a good choice. I chose the Malbec which went very well with the beef dish. For starter the home made pate and toast is a good welcome. I will go again if the moment arose.

My son really loved their pri-fix steak lunch. He said it was one of the best restaurants we've ever had after we had arrived in London in Feb.

Might have caught it on a off day but a bit disappointing in some ways. Service was friendly enough but food took an age to come (we were there over two hours in the end) and the quality of the fish mains, in particular, not up to the same standard as Sloane Square, London Bridge or Wimbledon. Being in the middle of the restaurant by the main door, we seemed to get overlooked or fall between two different teams. Not sure we would rush back which is a shame as we are Cote fans.

Very nice staff and can't fault the service, but the food was terrible. We sent back the cheese souffle, tasted microwaved and maybe contained gelantine, nasty; and the scallops were tiny, rubbery and tasteless. Great shame, used to be so reliable. Good customer service as removed from the bill but still!

Excelente ubicación, servicio rápido y atento, pero una pena que estén cortando esquinas con el tamaño de las porciones y la calidad de la comida. Teníamos las frituras de carne del menú Prix Fixe y pedimos muy raras, el filete era tan pequeño y delgado que sería imposible ponerlo bajo la parrilla durante un segundo sin cocinarlo demasiado, por lo que apenas estaba caliente y con menos sabor. Vino con una pequeña porción de patatas fritas sobresaladas y un chorrito de perejil como ensalada. La mousse de chocolate era buena, pero la comida no vale la pena el precio

Primero fui porque mis amigos estaban allí comiendo, y en la puerta, preguntamos si es mascota - que acepta. El camarero dijo que no adentro, pero puedes sentarte afuera. Así que prepararon la mesa y entramos. Además, una mujer tomó nuestras órdenes y todo estaba bien hasta que el GERENTE vino y dijo que no podemos quedarnos en la mesa, tenemos que irnos. Al parecer, estaba reservado. Si estaba reservado, ¿por qué su personal nos dejó sentarnos allí en primer lugar? Además, vi al gerente señalar a mi perro. Lo curioso es que, ¿tienes cuencos de agua para perros? Me parece muy mal que un gerente actúe así con los clientes. Aconsejo a aquellos que tienen mascotas que no vayan allí. Te dejarán entrar, tomarán tu orden y luego te pedirán que te vayas. Es una situación muy incómoda, para ser honesto, y muy mala. Para el restaurante en general, debes tener más cuidado al elegir quién administra tu restaurante. Su querido Gerente no sabe cómo tratar con los clientes.

I hosted an American friend here last week and the experience has entered our list of mutual jokes. Food terrible and service lamentable. I’m pretty upset as this reflects very badly on me and also on the UK. Avoid!

If I could give this zero stars, I would. I felt badly for my UK host who was trying to show off the beautiful and serene setting Unfortunately, the food was inedible and he was embarrassed. I know this is a chain so I would avoid ALL LOCATIONS!

Ordered water for the table and various drinks including wine and cocktails. Food arrived... we reminded the waiter that none of our drinks had arrived. Finished food before the wine arrived which we sent back.. Still no water... gave excuse of understaffed... didn't charge us for the drinks that we had rejected anyway cos they were too late. We paid a lot of money for food we didn't enjoy no other concession..my partner was desperate for any drink at all and none came. Shortly after we wished we had not paid for all the food PLUS service charge just one small course each for £67.. this was mainly becauses it was our daughter's special treat and we did not want to upset that by arguing with the staff who already showed no remorse only excuses. I will not go back and will tell all my friends about how we were treated. We are very local, Ive already told a few local friends what to expect. Very very disappointing. Robert

Absolutely my favourite Cote Brasserie. The staff can't do enough to ensure the customer has a perfect experience. I visited recently was given a lovely table overlooking the pond. Lucy in particular is always so welcoming. Our food was delicious. A perfect evening . Will definitely be returning. very soon.

It was a fantastic birthday experience. The team were friendly and warm and helpful. We brought a birthday cake and they brought it out with singing and candles and two complimentary scoops of ice cream, with happy birthday beautifully written with sauce on the plate - very kind of them. A lovely atmosphere and of course, great food and wine!

I was sad to hear that Danielle had moved on but I met Jade and Assad yesterday and was greeted with a warm welcome. We had the Prix fixe menu whitebait to start for me and the bacon lardons salad without the egg for my friend. Followed by the steak fries for both. All beautifully presented and cooked. With a lovely bottle of Muscadet. We'll be back!

This place is great, the service was really good and they treated us very well as it was my birthday. The food was excellent, I would definitely go back here when in the area. The view from the garden is also great, with the swans visiting.

Dear cote, I am writing to inform you about the terrible dinner we had on Saturday the 27 2024. Firstly, the staff was decreased massively and we had to wait for a long time for the staff to take our order. Additionally, when we had dessert, we asked for tea and one of the staff members thought we said hot chocolate at first, and we had to tell him again. Secondly, when we ordered a £30 fillet steak, we asked for a medium to rare but got a medium to well which on one side was burnt. The fish stew was over cooked and most the sauce was dried out. Additionally, the lamb was also over cooked and instead of medium to rare it was a well done. Finally, when we ordered dessert, the dessert that usually had a minuture chocolate foundun, a macaroni and a Madeline, instead we had a macaroni, madeline that was salted inside and a profiterole. The profiterole had barely any cream Thea you couldn’t even feel. It would be kind and appreciated if you return everything back to how it was before as we have been at cote for 5 years.

I like Cote, I have eaten in various Cotes ever since their first one opened in Wimbledon village. I was, however, underwhelmed by Cote Barnes... I was there for a birthday celebration. We had the charcuterie to start, which is generous and good quality. We ordered pork belly, and I had steak and frites. I asked for the optional triple cooked chips with truffle and also the optional peppercorn sauce ( £2.75), I wouldn't normally but hey it was my birthday. We were still eating our charcuterie when the main dishes were brought to our table. We said we were still eating,but the meals were left at the end of the table. I had been given what I felt were normal chips, and I couldn't taste any truffle. The peppercorn was not on my plate. We couldn't find anyone to speak to, and then the waitress passed by and asked if everything was ok. I told her I thought these were normally cooked chips, and I had ordered the peppercorn sauce. She looked confused and went off, and she returned with a tiny jug of peppercorn sauce. The Manager (?) came to our table and said the chips had been cooked in truffle oil... I said well ok but I can't taste truffle, and the peppercorn sauce was cold. He offered to replace the sauce. I said no, I will carry on, as I had by then nearly finished my steak... We had to wait a fair while to pay our bill as the shift changed, and we saw staff leaving. The same waitress came to get payment and then said the bill is different, left, and then came back with a plate with happy birthday and a small cake and a candle! We had started getting our coats on by then, so I said thank you, but no thank you. It's rather too late to eat that now and then left. She did apologise about getting the order wrong. I'm disappointed, more for Cote,which has been consistently good and this may be just be a one off, but if you read this Cote, please take note and make adjustments...thanks

Sound spot for an informal night out: quite a large restaurant, about half full on a Monday night. Helpful and friendly staff. Good main course and dessert portions; starters perhaps less so, so be careful of going for 2-3 starters rather than mains. House wines available in carafes from 175ml to 1L.

Service and kind staff make this a brilliant lunch spot; Mishel and Asad were very prompt, attentive and lovely.

Great place by the Green in Barnes. Had been to the Boat race and just wanted a drink so we asked if we could and were in a friendly manner told yes of course. We sat outside and had a delicious hot chocolate each. Such friendly service and cannot thank server Mishal for great hot chocolate and service. Thank you.

Review based on multiple visits. Consistent service and good food. I appreciate the unassuming nature of the staff as well as the changing and dynamic menus. This location fits very nicely into the area. Strongly outperforms other branches I’ve eaten at over the years. Definitely worth a visit!

The evening started out very well with my family , we had a lovely meal with drinks and our waiter was very helpful and polite. Unfortunately after receiving gift cards for my birthday to pay for our meal the manager incharge took my vouchers and returned to the table to confirm the payment was completed. As I was about to walk out the door she rudely approached my table Infront of other diners and told me I owed her more money. After returning to the counter to find out what the problem was she confirmed their was no mistake and abruptly told me everything was fine. No apology , abrupt and not hospitable at all . Customer service training is required as this was a very embarrassing encounter for me and my family , especially Infront of a full restaurant A real shame

Amazing venue. Food was good, but nothing special. We all Enjoyed our meals but the best part was service. Our waitress Melanie was exceptional. Great menu knowledge, always smiling and really friendly and helpful. Will be back for sure. Highly recommend.

Brilliant branch of Côte and very family friendly! The children's menu is great and good value and our kids love going there. Halim is a fantastic asset to the team and we are always so happy when he is there and serving our table because he is the kindest, most attentive, friendly person ever and my children think he is wonderful!

Crab starter was watery, bland and unseasoned. I couldn’t taste any of the (alleged) ingredients. My main was over seasoned, almost to the point of inedible. Our server (Melanie?) was exceptional: extremely attentive, organised, efficient and friendly. She deserves better than being asked to present food as carelessly assembled as this.

I always enjoy a visit to Cote Barnes. Made to feel welcome and can choose your table. Staff friendly and helpful and you are told if a staff member is being monitored/under instruction so that you can make allowances for any small demeanours.

Lovely restaurant located next to Barnes pond. We dropped in for lunch. The food was delicious and the decor stunning. The service was variable.

We received a warm welcome and service throughout the evening was friendly and efficient. One of the waiters was great with a kid on one of the other tables too. We enjoyed our steak and mussels and it seemed like good value for money. May try one of the other branches in the future.

We went to celebrate a wedding anniversary and the staff couldn't have been nicer to us, which made our evening. You know what you'll get with Cote, foodwise, but it was good and the service swift and efficient.

I really loved this Cote. The setting was lovely especially on a hot day . The three waiters who served us were so nice and attentive, Mohammed and another man and woman I forget name! The steaks I ordered wasn’t amazing quality for the price but the Chocolate Mousse was so good and the belly pork . I will definitely go again !

I love the stylish interior of Côte Brasserie and the food choices are great and affordable too! Always nice to visit, would just love to see that Espresso Martini pancake on the dessert menu again, as that was one of the best desserts I had in my life!

Halim our waiter couldn’t have been more friendly or attentive. He was brilliant with my children and thanks to him we have a wonderful experience when we go for children’s tea. We will definitely be back, if only everyone there was as friendly!

Food is good and well priced. Unfortunately service was underwhelming, staff forgot to bring the hors d’œuvre as part of the new menu before telling us there was a shortage of baguette (without apologies or offering something else). No discount of apologies with the bill, not that we will ever return anyway.

Have used Côte both in Richmond and Barnes over the years - the former has always been a notch above, but Barnes acceptable enough. Not last night. The waitress tried hard enough and we were looked after fairly well, however the food was unacceptable. En route to a show, therefore time was not on our side. We all had Crab as a starter - it barely tasted of Crab and was obviously 'diluted' with Tuna. One out of four meals was acceptable - my Lamb Rump was a cut of meat I'd have just given to my dog, with excess fat, gristle and wonderful bunch of blood vessels. Never again, Côte, sorry.

We often visit cote and have been to many across London and the suburbs. It’s always a reliable place and good for a family. Barnes Cote was disappointing. The main stay of the staff are super young and not trained properly. They are struggling to keep up with the pace and the whole meal felt a bit tense and chaotic. I won’t be returning.

Went to Cote Barnes for dinner. We settled at our table and were given the list of things that were unavailable including the burger. This is the second time we have been here and key menu items were unavailable. We had a drink and then went to order our wine. After quite a wait we were told it was unavailable - the house Rose. The other bottle we were offered was £8 more. When we were given the desert menu we were also told that an item was unavailable. The restaurant was not full but they seem to have a stock problem. My quiche was lookwarm at best and under seasoned. The chips were not the usual frites but more like chunky chips. The rest of the food was fine and the service was very efficient and friendly. Disappointing as I used to love Cote but missed the mark today.

Breakfast Served quickly but then it was not hot, barely warm. Tea cup and tea pot not washed properly. Lack of attention to detail- one of the items we asked for was never delivered (not charged either) , one item that we asked to be slightly modified (no crest) arrived with crest, another - bacon - we asked to be really crispy - delivered just about cooked. No butter for toast, probably not important for most but I don’t enjoy toasts with no butter at all.

Food was generally good. Avocado on my toast was a small portion but everyone’s poached eggs were lovely. Service good but four pots of tea were served with no lids! This meant it went cold very quickly. Obviously short staffed as I had to find the server to get more water.

Birthday brunch. This was our second & last visit to Cote. I’ve been been to many different branches of Cote without any problems. However the restaurant was empty on arrival in a Saturday late morning, was probably an obvious sign. My eggs were well undercooked, gluey type appearance & cold, then served in a soggy piece of untoasted sourdough cold bread. When we expressed concerns we was told that was how eggs are served. The other two full English breakfasts was also served cold, then having to request condiments after service whilst the food as already served cold just added to the experience. As a table a four we had to send one inedible breakfast back, which returned after the rest of us had finished & was then hard boiled poached eggs. We was charged in full, they added a service charge, we paid, left & wont be returning again.
