Made a booking online for Saturday evening with my family, received booking confirmation through my emails. We arrived at the restaurant only to find it was closed. Not sure why I was able to make a booking for somewhere that wasn't even open. I also wasn't going to leave a review until I got sent an email asking how my experience was 🤷♀️

On the 17th December, our family had booked online to eat here before an 8pm performance at the nearby Normansfield theatre . We received a booking confirmation number with specific reference to our one vegan diner but when we arrived, despite the lights being on, the place was empty and there was a note stuck to the door saying “we are closed” This may have been due to an emergency and if so we hope all is ok with the owners but we did not receive any notification and had to walk the streets to find another restaurant that could accommodate us in time without a booking.

Very friendly staff and good service. We came very near the end of the kitchen service and ordered the Sunday chicken roast which came served on a large plate which we shared. Very generous serving. As we had booked ahead of time, I got a friendly call to let us know they were running low on the roasts and there might be limited options. I really appreciated that. Will definitely return

Our pre-rugby lunch on Saturday was very good, especially the belly pork. The service from a friendly team was also great, which included the pre-arrival correspondence. The experience was slightly let down by a wobbly and sticky table, with scraps of paper attached. It wouldn't have taken much to clean it properly and repair the wobble.

I thought it tasted nice…. It was a bit unconventional because it was shredded lamb so it would have been nice to have a proper cut of meat however the flavour was good. I would definitely go back

my 7 year old declared this the best pub roast he's ever had! great vegetable selection arrived on a sharing platter for me and him - the cauliflower cheese in particular was incredible! my husband is gluten free and the staff were very accommodating and helpful in explaining the menu when the printer broke so they were unable to give us a copy of the GF menu. i have already text a friend to join me for a cote de boeuf roast sometime soon! all staff very friendly - and I am looking forward to going again (mainly for the cauliflower cheese!)

Lovely pub, spacious interior and garden, nicely decorated. Staff really nice and welcoming. We tried the pub as there was a 50% off offer for roast dinners. Roast beef would normally be £60 for two (sirloin) and lamb £19 per person. Food comes on serving platters, which is fine - vegetable platter was amazing (red cabbage, roasted beetroot and parsnips, roast potatoes, tenderstem broccoli, yorkshire puddings etc etc - really good). The roast lamb came in a small bowl (dessert bowl?), and it was grey and limp - for 3 people. We were expecting roast lamb slices with crisp skin and rosemary. If I had paid £60 for that I would have been so disappointed, but as they honoured the 50% off we didn't say anything. Lovely pub though in nice area!

I really enjoyed the beer festival at the the Lion (Teddington) in August 2022:- An exceptionally well judged selection of cask and keg beers on offer... Especially appreciated the inclusion of a very well balanced Porter (Sam Brooks - Powerhouse) - thank you Wayne (Lion Pub. bar manager) for including porter in the festival this year. I also very much enjoyed the BBQ dry rubbed sirloin steak, prepared by Matt (pub landlord) - it was incredibly tender, melt in the month - If I hadn't watched him BBQ it in front of my eyes, I wouldn't have believed that sirloin steak came off a BBQ! Absolutely fantastic food and beer!

I was the winner of a competition to win 20 pints, during the annual beer festival that they held this weekend. I was delighted with the news, and brought my family down to appreciate it in their beer garden. We were greeted very nicely, And generally had very good service. I was welcomed by the owner, who was a helpful and very friendly gentleman. There was a wide range of beer and cider to sample, And we had a great time. The food was very good. And in particular the roast chicken was brilliant. The meat fell off the bone beautifully. Only one small! Niggle was that the waitress seemed to struggle with our big order (7 of us ) and didn't write anything down, So we did have some issues with what arrived at our table. This was rectified on the bill and so was fine. Otherwise we had a brilliant experience and I would highly recommend it.

First time at the Lion since COVID, first time in a pub actually so I was a bit nervous. No need at all, it’s was well organised and the staff were great. Mix of people with and without masks, mainly a generational divide. I did not feel awkward with my mask on.Sat in the garden under the new big top which was airy and bright. The menu has changed a lot since I was last there and in my view for the better. More veggie options which I always found a problem in the past - there were always a couple but they never changed.I had the halloumi burger which was the best burger I have had in ages.I don’t live far away and will definitely go again soon :)

Came here with my partner and his parents for an 8pm booking. Beautiful pub and friendly welcome. We ordered drinks which came in good time as we had 2 cocktails in the order. We ordered 2 sharing boards which were delicious but all this food took a while, with no apology or acknowledgement about it. We ordered mains with the starters but were told they were out of crayfish. Then they came back again (another 10 minutes) no salads. One of our party had to change thier meal twice. 2 of us had ordered ham egg and chips and werent told until after we finished our starters that there were none left! I got the schnitzel which one was great, but the other dry and chips were fried in oil that wasnt hot enough so some were inedible. I said something and was told 'I couldve got another one' but I didnt want another one as it was getting late and I was already disappointed and tired. My partners steak was underseasoned and peppercorn sauce watery. We were told they dont normally have an open kitchen on Tuesdays so I assumed it wasnt the head chef. One member of staff was lovely but others seemed more focused on the group of people (more than 6) behind us.I am a manager in the service industry and I was so disappointed from the attitude of some staff members as it made us all uncomfortable. We wanted to leave ASAP as the group were quite loud and it was late, we looked inside and staff seemed to be too busy messing around. We just went in to pay as we wanted to leave quickly.I would definitely come back for a drink, but sadly service wasnt great. 2 stars for the lovely cocktails and sharing boards!

The Lion always had a nice atmosphere, pet and family friendly, perfect for drinks with family and friends. I believe the menu is new and there are good number of choices. We tried burger, beef / chicken / pork roasts and mac n cheese. They have decent size of portions but we are not impressed with the quality of the roasts. Chicken wasn't moist, yorkshire pudding was way too dry and gravy was very salty and sweet which made us think it was just a ready made gravy. Rest of the food choices were nice. Staff is lovely as always and paying attention to covid measures.

Management have invested in seating outside which is good. But under staffed, so even though the team were working as fast as they could, the service was incredibly slow. When the food finally arrive, nearly an hour after ordering, it was poorly cooked and very expensive. Probably OK to visit if you just want a drink, but no wonder there was availability when other pubs around were fully booked. Unfortunately not a patch on its former self and I definitely wouldn’t recommend it if you want to eat anything other than a packet of crisps!

After visiting for drinks a few weeks ago I had high hopes. The set up and garden is great but everything was painfully slow and so much out of stock. We had two menus between 15 of us, it took so long to take our order so our mains didn’t end up arriving until 2hr 20min after our booking. They did give the kids food earlier thankfully. Drinks orders also slow. They were out of burrata, veggie burger and 2 other veggie mains leaving v little veggie choice. Out of a few other things too. Really want this place to do well as it used to be great and I want to support local but there’s a fair way to go sadly.

We had a booking over the weekend for dinner in the outdoor garden area. We had to ask for menus multiple times, and had to wait for about 30 minutes before getting menus as they were printing menus. We then ordered our food, but the waitress came back 5 minutes later saying they were out of chicken, so they had zero meals on the menu with chicken... on a Saturday at 5:30pm?!?!The wait staff seemed inexperienced and was there to socialise with the other waitstaff. We had to get their attention many times if we needed anything (cutlery, sauces, more drinks). We ordered 2 ice creams for our 2 children (both 3 years old), and the waitress brought out 2 giant spoons thinking that toddlers would be able to use that to eat a scoop of ice cream. She was annoyed when we asked to get teaspoons instead. Needless to say, our dinner service was appalling and we will not be returning.

According to trip advisor, 3 stars is 'average' and 4 stars is 'very good' but where is GOOD?? 3.5 stars? We love The Lion for its ambience, easy booking, welcoming staff and fabulous garden! We have happily spent hours in this garden with drinks and sharing plates. We love the upgraded garden- who doesn't love bunting and a huge canvas tent? There are plenty of different seating areas- our favourite are the sheds with built in music and heaters! Buuuuuut.... Unfortunately the food was disappointing. We had a Ploughman's Sharing Platter- some cheddar cheese, a bit of baguette and some ham, mini gerkins and mini pickled onions and thankfully a lovely scotch egg in the centre. I was so surprised by the size (which was an ordinary plate size rather than the platter I was expecting), that I had to ask the waiter for more (!) I was able to finish my £15 platter with ease without sharing with anyone, and I am still convinced they made a mistake with the size! It seems that recently the prices have gone up, but the portion sizes have gone down? But also there was a lack of finesse about the meal and it lacked any special condiments e.g, chutneys, Mayos, sauces that help to make a platter feel special. It simply looked like something you could put together at home with items from the supermarket. I know The Lion is better than this one experience so I will be back to try again this summer!

Good service and always friendly. A bit rowdy as people were enjoying the time to meet up with friends, which seemed to result in lots of broken glass! I ordered Mac & Cheese, which at £12.50 is not particularly cheap for some pasta in a dish. The first lot came and it was okay but pretty tasteless so I sent it back. The second try was a twice as bad. It was floury, bland and didn’t seem to actually have any cheese in it! I can’t believe they would even serve this to a paying customer. It was embarrassing. They did offer a replacement or refund but by this point I wasn’t tempted by the rest of the menu.

Well its been a while hasn't it ? Chose the Lion as our first post lockdown lunch and drinks venue as we'd always had good results here in the past. Even if the food / service had been bad I'm sure we'd have been forgiving after so long out of the game but no worries at all on that score, it delivered as good as before. Seating was all outside as per guidelines but plenty of room and heaters - ordering done via an app which worked really well and we had little to no waiting for drinks and starters. Good selection of beers as well as a very decent wine list. Sharing board and some calamari for starters and it was 100% bang up there with what you'd expect from a top class gastropub anywhere in London. After that it was a case of stick to the classics - fish and chips, burger and fish stew , 4 clean plates no questions asked. All in all a great return to dining experience - good service, good surroundings, great food and no rush - we'll be back soon!

Visited on the first evening after lockdown finished. Impressed as always by the slickness of the app ordering system and the quality of the food. However, the last few times I have visited The Lion there have been big tables packed full of loud kids (assume they are over 18), being lairy and a bit OTT. This visit was no different . To be honest I think that the restaurant would do well to take them to one side and just have a word or two about what is and what isn't acceptable behaviour. I recognise that this makes me sound like a boring old fella - and I think I might have become one. Sorry.

The staff were welcoming and the food was delicious. We were lucky that the Lion put on entertainment that just added to the evening. Will definitely be going again and very happy to recommend. Thank you Kat for organising an extension on our table also. Jini

Finally released back into the wild, we headed for the welcoming garden of 'The Lion'. A new canopy, strings of lights and lanterns added a charming warmth to the chilly evening. The food and beer was immaculate, as usual, and the smiling and efficient staff seemed genuinely pleased to be in action once again. Will be back on Sunday with a big smile (and extra layer on!) ;o)

The food, the service and the atmosphere were all really lovely. The garden is looking very pretty with the lighting. There were enough heaters. A great evening.

I love the atmosphere and the decor both inside and out, but the prices in this pub are too steep. £6.00 per pint for real ale is silly in TW11.

Rather chilly outside but a wonderful relief to be out at The Lion again. A very tasty lunch with excellent service. Really enjoyed the new beer - The Lion, The Wick and the Wardrobe! We will back soon.

Just to say that it was fantastic to slip into The Lion for a 'substantial meal' and a few pints on a recent covid-stricken evening. Food, drink and app-summonsed service were as great as they always are. Hats off to a pub sensible enough to offer a reasonably priced bowl of boiled rice to match the covid dining minima. After giving it serious consideration I opted out and went for the chicken burger which proved gratifyinly moist, tender and delicious, and was served with a brilliant salad and slaw combo. Always happy here.

Charging £4.50 for a bowl of chips is taking the Micky. Very expensive. Good bar/waitress staff however.

The Lion is a great pub with lovely staff and great quality food, especially during these difficult times. Felix, D and Ben behind the bar are so welcoming and friendly plus the chefs quality of cooking is fantastic for the price. Would definitely recommend to those looking for a nice night out in budget. 10/10

My husband and I visited The Lion last night for their Beer Festival. The service for drinks via an app is perfect and quick. We had a few nibbles from their menu, ordered through their app, and it was very tasty! The scotch eggs were well seasoned and perfectly cooked with a running yoke inside. My husband loved them so much he ordered more. The decor inside is well done to keep the pub spacious and light but still giving a very cosy feeling. The garden is big! Lots of space, lots of seating with shelter. They had a live saxophonist playing for their beer festival last night which made the pub feel lively and a vibrant atmosphere! My husband loved the beer selection. We'll definitely be going to this pub again!/

Great visit to The Lion today for a beer festival. Saxophonist was top notch, food great and atmosphere bang on. I noshed a delicious sausage and mash with the best mash I've had since I lived in the North East and some little crispy fried onions that pinged with the rich gravy Ales and Ciders were really good too, we tried most of them between us and will likely be back before the weekend is over. Thank you to our host for the evening, Katrina. She was super helpful showing us how the app worked and was so friendly all night

I love the ambience of this pub. Last week was our 4th visit for food and given the previous visit left me highly unimpressed (but which I chalked down to a one off), that it happened again last week compelled me to write a review. Judge for yourself:6.30pm: arrived. We were v hungry and wanted to order asap. Then told to install Swifty app, create account and be ready for ordering. 6.50pm placed order.7.00-7.10 several visits to table back confirming how we wanted things done (I guess this was once the order was in the kitchen). 7.45pm food arrived.... and food sent back- chateaubriand for two was cold and one of our children's burger was burned hard. No joke- it was like a badly charred burger left too long on a bbq. The waitress was very apologetic- there'd been a run on the kitchen; I pointed out that situation is not new to all restaurants esp during EOTHO and that an app does not replace people coming over and letting us know progress rather than us constantly asking (politely I might add!) for a progress report.Other issues during our wait:- For the shared Chateaubriand only 1 steak knife came, not one for my wife.- Table water request didn't come through until wed asked twice. The chateaubriand, when it eventually arrived at 8.15 (1hr 45 mins after arriving) was excellent. My daughters replacement burger was too. And our son's chicken schnitzel which had arrived earlier at 745 was great. Top marks to the chef. Sadly, the 4 of us ate at different times. So, 3 suggestions:1. Inform patrons to install the Swifty app before coming. It takes time to load, register and navigate so being told before sitting down saves time and sets expectations. As it stands, the app detracts from an enjoyable experience that I know the Lion can provide. 2. Table service: please, please be more proactive, not reactive. Check in with diners, keep diners informed if the kitchen is super busy (rather than err towards apologising after-the-fact, or when pressed). 3. The management are employing young and enthusiatic staff who were great people but they should be better trained on managing customer expectations and care when times are v busy.Good luck, Lion. Your food was great, eventually.

Lovely main courses during ‘eat out to help out’, if a bit heavy on the meat. Drinks prices seemed inflated. Avoid the puddings - the cronuts had to be returned as it was so hard it couldn’t be cut with the cutlery provided, and the sticky toffee pudding that replaced it (lower cost, no refund) was dried out and was left uneaten- I guess the current environment means waiting staff don’t get to check if everything’s ok, but this was totally ignored and unapologised for.

Been coming here for many years as our nearest local and wouldn’t normally put pen to paper but felt the need tonight. Wife ordered large chicken Caesar salad as main course. Shouldn’t be too tricky one would think. What arrived after half an hour wait barely filled half the plate, came with baby leaf lettuce, no sign of anchovies or Parmesan cheese. Ok it was tasty enough but portions just mean and all wrong. Asked for some dressing for my salad which turned out to be a few leaves and was given a portion of tartare sauce! Yep tartare as salad dressing. Come on. This is a great local and we want to keep visiting but when you are paying good money just get the basics right and give your customers decent portions.

Used to be the best pub/French restaurant (La Cloche) in the area. French bar and restaurant food, charming French staff, cinéclub, Tour de France shown etc. Really popular locally, authentic and great good and wine list. Then changed hands recently. French staff left. No longer has its French USP, just a bog-standard runofthemill pub serving very average English pub food. Menu is poor. No different to any other pub in the area. What a shame. The local Côte will pick up a chunk of the restaurant’s clientele.

Tucked away in a suburban street, but close to Bushy Park (Sandy Lane Gate then over the railway), ‘The Lion’ provides a welcoming and peaceful retreat for visitors and local residents alike. We enjoyed a relaxed family meal on a quiet weekday lunch time. The varied menu includes set-price two course lunches. Most of us chose the feather steak, with fries and tomato salad. Chocolate fudge cake followed. All were well cooked, nicely presented and very enjoyable. Good value too. Unpretentious food, which we washed down with a couple of choices from the range of small-brewery beers. It seems that management changed not too long ago. The new regime is certainly worth a try.

We visited on 19th Nov 2024. The stuff were kind and caring. And we got 12 gbp discount as we were patient when they moved us from a table to another. It was such a king gesture. Thanks to the manager of that shift

There was no atmosphere at all the service was really bad I also managed to have one of the waitresses rolling her eyes on me for asking for ketchup & mayonnaise to go with my meal. and the food was really average. we Just wanted to finish the meal and leave. shame on your Cote Barnes!
