Best fish and chips in Bournemouth :) we have always got our take away from here and it’s always been great. You can order online and then pick up when it’s ready so it’s convenient!

Visited again and was disappointed, lovely cod and chips, really friendly and helpful staff. My only one gripe was no tomato sauce bottle on the table, me and my friend like a lot of sauce on our fish and chips, we had to keep asking the serving staff for more sauce as it only comes in very small amounts.

Best fish and chips ever (according to friends and family who eat fish). Whenever friends visit I take them here. I can personally vouch for the halloumi and chips being amazing. As are the onion rings. Been here many times now, always great service. Lovely staff. Great atmosphere. Always super busy (a good sign!). One suggestion would be for a vegetarian battered sausage. Vegetarians are often bored of burgers, so that would be a fun option for us and a real point of difference! :)

Went here last night for regular fish and chips to takeaway, it was packed out in the restaurant and the takeaway. The service was very quick, a very slick, professional service by the team of guys taking orders, cooking and serving all the orders out to the customers. The food was absolutely stunning, the fish was bright white, the batter was perfect and the chips were delicious. And the price is actually lower than other fish and chip restaurants, £20 for 2 regular fish and chips takeaway. What a brilliant gem of a food outlet for Bournemouth. Well done team, the whole system was perfection. I'm back next week for sure, everyone must experience this place.

Nice fish and chips, especially the fish, but for veggies the banana blossom is terrible, was very hard. Also only gave 1 mushy peas when 2 were ordered.

Visiting Westbourne is definitely the place to go for fish & chips. Unlimited double cooked chips. Specials fish board. Free still & sparkling water. Can't reserve a table, but place your name at the door and wait for a table to become free. Also, takeaway available.

Came here on a Friday evening. You put your name down and the kind waitresses will let you know the estimated wait time. We were told 30 minutes but was around 20-25. We ordered the catch of the day and the cod and chips. We ordered some small sides such as peas, pickle bread and butter roll (the latter was forgotten but I won't dwell on that). The food arrived quick and fresh. Up there with one of the best fish and chips I've ever had. The unlimited chips were a bonus. We ordered their choc ice cream because you just can't end a meal without something sweet. Didn't come with my flake but again really happy with the food and friendly service and highly recommend anyone to come here.

Been coming here for at least ten years and the food, service and atmosphere are always great. The best haddock and chips I have ever tasted, anywhere. Hugely recommended.

Probably the best fish and chips I have ever eaten...light crispy batter...flaky tasty cod..fresh chips which were not greasy..excellent friendly service..the fryers were all smartly dressed...I would highly recommend Chez Fred to everyone

Fred wasn't in the night we went (the word was he was having in large with the boys in Zante) but you wouldn't have known it. Served by Amir and trust me he can fry a nice bit of fish. Well done to Fred and the Fish & Chip team, you're putting in quite the shift chaps.

Fresh, delicious, and plenty of food.

Greeted by a lovely lady . She showed us to a table and left menus. We ordered the cod and chips. The haddock and chips. We could see it all being freshly cooked. It was really busy. Fab atmosphere here. Diet coke was flat and tasteless so it was returned and I was given a different coke. Tartare sauce tasted very mayonnaise rather than tartare sauce. Both meals were hot. Cooked to perfection. Highly recommend you come here. Staff couldn't have been more helpful.

The service is always friendly and quick and the food is always hot and fresh. It's the perfect local chippy.. Anyone craving authentic, no-nonsense fish and chips when in the area should pop in, it’s become my go-to place when I’m in visiting friends in Bournemouth. Highly recommended!

10 out of 10 ..... our go to restaurant in Bournemouth. Stunning delicious generous portions of really fresh fish, delightful staff, great vibrant atmosphere. You can't book / reserve a table - the wait (register at the main desk) is well worth it.

1st visit to Chez Fred & we’ll be back as both the fish & the service were great

Over priced and under cooked. The food van was a complet mess. With a worker that never washed thier hands, but used a tea towel to clean their hands every time they touched raw fish. The oil was dirty, the chips were greasy and over cooked. I don't think it's worth the price for really bad food.

Sat 14th Sept 2024 Called in at Chez Fred to get Fish & Chips. Service received from Alex.this evening was superb. Thank you Enjoyed the fish supper at the beach ! Chez Fred (take away) was really busy, Alex was excellent (we enjoyed our Haddock & Chips).....Alex went above and beyond after a small issue with our initial order, all resolved professionally and quickly. We had the lunch time special great fish cod the batter was excellent super value meal with cup of tea and a roll and mushy peas faultless service from the staff everything came together and was well presented the chips were ok and you can have as many as you want overall an excellent Friday lunch 👍👍👍

Totally lovely meal. Staff great. Had lunchtime special. Queued but only for couple of minutes. Very busy. We travelled the open top bus to get here for our lunch out on recommendation. Not disappointed. Roll butter tea or coffee fish chips mushy peas. Tartare sauce on asking too. Also had portion onion rings just to see if they were as good as we had been told. Yes they were. Cod in batter was the best Ive had in years lovely white flakes crispy batter. Delicious. Chips a tad disappointed colour a little too light for me but tasted ok. Definitely the cod was wonderful. Just put a online order in, pick up 5pm, staff are so friendly, efficient and delivered bang on time, so impressed, it reminded me why when visiting this area there is no where else to get your fish and chips…..which were cooked beautifully and the best quality, congratulations to you all 👏👏

The staff is very attentive and professional. They knew how long approximately we would have to wait to be seated based on the amount of people on our table. Service was fast with attention to details. Very friendly people. Recommend to visit. Parking in nearby areas is required as they're located on a busy road. For lunch they have a good deal.

One of the freshest fish and the best and most delicious chips I've ever eaten. You can have a trip to Bournemouth just for this. To my surprise, they even serve alcohol which is amazing. Unfortunately long wait to be seated but it's totally worth it!

My sister and brother-in-law visited us from London, and we took them to Chez Fred for lunch on Friday, 30th August. We were warmly greeted by a member of staff (unfortunately, she wasn’t wearing a name badge, but I remember her bright orange trainers) who had a contagious smile and made us feel instantly welcome. Trae served us, and he was incredibly friendly, attentive, and took great care to meet our needs. We were all very impressed with the quality of the food, and Jaz was especially kind, making sure to refill my mother’s coffee. A big thank you to the owner and management for maintaining such excellent quality and value, even during these times of high inflation. Chez Fred, you serve the best fish and chips we’ve ever had!

Amazing food great service. We ordered by calling up in advance for takeaway on a busy Friday night and we got our food in less than 1 minute of the time slot they gave us. But the food was delightful 10/10

Went after reading rave reviews online whilst on holiday with the family. The initial service was great although 30 minutes wait to get fish, chips and peas twice plus 2 battered sausages was a little insane, I appreciate they are busy but in Yorkshire this would never happen. Speaking of Yorkshire, the fish was literally half the size of those I would normally get! All in all really good quality food if you can wait half an hour and order extra to make up for the small size!!

Says online they do best gluten free. But on arriving told this was only available on Tuesdays. I had steamed fish and risked the chips. Mistake. The steamed fish was like rubber as overcooked. I should not have risked the chips...terrible indigestion. Followed by terrible headache and swollen glands.

Recently visited Chez Fred on a day trip to Bournemouth after searching for the best place for fish and chips in town... we were not disappointed! We arrived at around 16:50 on a sunny Saturday, and the restaurant was almost full. We were warmly greeted and given a choice of the available tables (a nice touch!). Once seated we were attended to quickly and put our orders in. The restaurant got pretty busy while we were there, and the takeaway side seemed pretty busy too, but the atmosphere remained pleasant. Our food arrived within a reasonable time and was absolutely amazing! Everything was piping hot. The chips were super crispy and lovely when doused in salt and vinegar. The cod was extremely flaky and meaty, and the batter was wonderfully crisp and not at all greasy. The curry sauce was also very good! We were asked if we wanted extra chips (which are unlimited!) and were happily given an extra bowl. All the staff were super smiley and happy to help, checking everything with our meal was okay partway throught. I would highly recommend Chez Fred to anyone wanting some amazing fish and chips - it is definitely worth the walk away from the main town!

I was having lunch with my wife today at Chez Fred, we were welcomed and very well looked after by the people who work there. The food, service and everything in general was excellent. !!!! We will return a hundred times more.

Unfortunately we have had to resort to Takeaways as we now have a puppy called Milo. It is our fave place for Fish and Chips and is truly delicious. We know the staff well and are always welcoming. The staff all want to see Milo now when we visit. A truly lovely tasty experience. Milo loves his Cod too. Addendum 200424. As good as ever. Takeaway again as we had Milo. Sorry he did not say Hello as he was wanting his Mum. Milo ate a lot of Cod tonight. He loves it but not keen on the Chips. He is not a Veggie! High standards for a long time. Go there every lunchtime I'm in Bournemouth.

I’ve heard they’re one of the best fish and chips shops in the country. I was a bit disappointed at first, probably not being accustomed to a healthier chip. Within moments though, the taste for them developed, engulfing me in a satisfaction, devoid of health concerns or guilt. As the box chips became a few sparse remnants, the taste greatened, the subjects at the bottom of the box being of the highest flavour. The battered sausage was also truly special, a pure beast, not overly battered and the meat felt lean and true.

The best Fish and Chips in Dorset. Worth the trip down from London, when in the area to pay a visit. Clean, tasty and fresh fish. Definitely worth the visit when in Westbound. 10/10. Thank you Chez

The best fish & chips in all the world are served here, because you just can taste the fresh and clean oil they're using with every single serve, and the freshness of the cod. I come back here every time when I'm in the area. Chez Fred truly is the culinary highlight of every stay. The mushy peas are amazing, and I've enjoyed the pickles a lot. It's a very pleasant restaurant which is impeccably clean, with outstandingly friendly and helpful staff.

Got a large cod and chips I would say the chips were already pre-made they don’t seem like fresh chips you know the ones that come frozen from somewhere else. The large fish I would say is standard it was very greasy too. I could taste the oil and it tasted like the oil need to be changed. It was 90p for a small tartar sauce. When I went in there, there was a poor man who was asking to be served one of the men that usually sit on the bench drinking a can of beer they wouldn’t serve him so the atmosphere was pretty bad. The wait for the table in the restaurant was 30 minutes it was very busy so I decided to get a takeaway and still ended up waiting 25 minutes, even though there was no one in front of me. This was my first visit, but I won’t be returning. Really hard to find a parking space too.

The people that run the restaurant is amazing and service is amazing would highly recommend going there if u love or going for a holiday.

Delicious tasty fish and chips. It's really handy for Sandbanks! Polite staff. The portion size is good. Can get really busy, though, so you can order and collect.

Lunchtime special is very good value. Servers were very friendly and complementary sparkling water was a nice addition.

The woman who was allocating tables was rude; service was incredibly slow - 40 minutes wait at lunchtime for a standard cod and chips! We offered to move table to a corner table but was given short shrift, we moved out of the way so that same woman could clean the floor under another table - not a word of thanks. Whatever happened to customer service? Unlikely that we will bother to go there again!

Jam packed with people waiting for their orders so expected outstanding chips. Unfortunately sub standard on the evening we tried. This is the second time trying here and unfortunately both times didn't live up to the hype. Friendly service though.

Had a take out here. The fish was lovely and you could tell it hadn't been sitting there for ages like some other places. I'm usually very fussy with chip shop chips but these very fluffy and not greasy at all. Was a lovely meal

I've had fish and chips from Settle to Balloch to Watford and more, no other fish and chips comes close. Delicious, perfectly cooked chips and fish, the hake just falls apart on your mouth, so good!

We were served by Trae, who was polite, helpful, and attentive to our needs. We had cod with unlimited chips. Always spot on with both the food and service- my partner introduced this place to me (I’m from London and she’s originally from Bournemouth). From a humble Londoner’s pov, best fish and chips I’ve ever had- highly recommend their banging curry sauce and fresh haddock or some of their specials (eg rock) if you’re feeling more adventurous!

If you are looking for a crispy and freshly cooked fish and chips, Chez Fred is definitely the right shop for that. I've been there a couple of times, and it's really tasty. If you want to sit in the restaurant, make sure you are there on time. It's very popular and you can't reserve a table. There is also a takeaway service. Staff was nice and welcoming.
