Fantastic food and a lovely ambience. We went for dinner and had a really great evening. They had run out of the asparagus starter, but everything else was available. I had the sirloin steak which was perfectly cooked and absolutely delicious. This is the perfect restaurant for a romantic night out.

Thank you to everyone at Chez Dominique for my mother's birthday meal. We were 11 people in total and we had a group of 7 in the function area and 4 of us at a main area table. This was fine and we knew it was a small space. My mum appreciated her glass of fizz and we all dined well. My husband and I really enjoyed the Chateaubriant. Our fish eaters liked the scallops and the hake. The staff were all lovely, the very best of service.

Chez Dominique was a delightful find for lunch on a day visit from Cardiff. The service was slick and efficient. The menu looked really interesting and much better than most. I started with ox tongue which was perfectly cooked and very tasty but the delicate flavour was rather spoiled by the powerful Kimchi. My hake was perfect and the fries were excellent. We washed it all down with a carafe of Mythique. The bill for 2 came to £86 which included a 12.50% service charge.

Absolutely superb meal. Unfussy, well cooked, French brasserie food. Bavette Steak Frites couldn't be better, served simply with a lovely Mustard Tarragon Butter. Scallops starter was sublime. A cosy little restaurant (no doubt they would call themselves a Bistro!) with a super range of food on the menu. On our visit the service was attentive, the food excellent, and the ambience very appeling. Highly recommended but booking essential as the number of covers is limited. Also, the bistro is smallish, so it can get very noisy as people talk louder and louder to make themselves heard as the space fills up! That small drawback aside, as I say, it comes highly recommended.

This was a lovely meal in a cozy restaurant on the Pulteney Bridge in Bath. Wait staff were attentive and pleasant. Even though I was a party of one, they did not seat me in a dark corner with no view as is often the case, nor did they try to rush me off on a busy night. The reviews online are quite complimentary as they should be. The menu offers plenty of variety but on this cold, rainy night I selected the Onglet steak and pommes frites with a glass of wine. Just wonderful. A great way to close out a busy day of sightseeing.

We had arranged to meet friends for a relaxed lunch and Chez Dominique which was known to our friends was chosen. The restaurant is nicely laid out and offered an interesting luncheon special with lots of interesting options. I chose the tongue with kimchi (fantastic flavours) followed by the skirt steak and chips (beautifully cooked) with the final course the chocolate stout cake (again outstanding). Every dish was outstanding, really great combinations served and prepared to perfection. I tried to think what could have improved the taste of the dishes and I could not think of a single adjustment. My companions had the same thoughts about their selections. Completely recommended and I will return.

We eat out a lot. This was to celebrate our 23rd wedding anniversary (didn't think we would make 23 years quite frankly). This is the best food. Mackerel special was out of this world, but so were the other dishes - trout and tongue starters, mackerel and sea bass mains, the cheese (we had all 3) for dessert. Caraff of red wine, port, Irish coffee. Young lady front of house is clearly invested in this business. Young man serving was lovely. You have to go here!!!!

I was pleasantly surprised to come across this little gem! I wanted to take my wife out for a nice dinner but wanted to find something a little different and stumbled on "Chez Dominique" by Googling the best places to eat in Bath. The restaurant décor is cosy, the staff were all friendly and helpful and the food was nicely presented and very tasty. On top of all that, it was reasonably priced too. My wife and I both had 3 courses from the lunch menu and can highly recommend the "Duck rillettes, Asian salad, sesame & soy dressing" and "Sauté scallops, chorizo, saffron aioli, chickpea stew" from the starters. We both enjoyed the "Onglet steak, Café de Paris butter, pommes frites" for our main course, as this came highly recommended by diners on Google reviews. We finished off with a "Toasted oat panna cotta, pear purée, candied peel biscuit" and a "Chocolate & stout cake, stem ginger Chantilly cream, candied walnuts" for dessert all of which were delicious! We will definitely be returning!

Started well but ended flat. Soup was lovely but the steaks were a bit of a travesty. My wife had hers well done which is indeed a crime but due to medical reasons was needed, sadly it was as tough as you could imagine. Mine was blue but it was more like a boiled steak. Rare in the middle but no sear. Sides were nice but kind of spoiled the whole meal. Only one option for a carafe of red which was the cheapest option. But the bottle of wine ordered was very tasty. Overall. Nice but just lacking distinction. For a French restaurant I’d ditch the Asian fusion attempts and stick to the classic which are known and loved Service was lovely and appreciated

The location (30 yards from Pulteney Bridge), staff service and atmosphere are all reasons to visit whilst in Bath. The food was of a good standard: garlic olives as an appetiser, starters of sauteed scallops with chorizo and chickpea stew and a smoked mackerel pate; main courses consisting of steamed trout with crispy noodles, and roasted chicken with chorizo alongside an additional extra of green beans cooked with almonds. Our bill came to a little over £107 which included one small beer, a 250ml glass of red wine plus a table water. A 12.5% discretionary service charge is included within the bill. The staff are attentive without being intrusive, and the food was served quickly although it was not piping hot when reaching the table. I thought the bill was a little on the high side, but it was certainly a pleasurable enough dining experience.

Freshly cooked and beautifully presented food from a varied menu. The chef and kitchen are an amazing team. Unfortunately the decor and ambience isn't great. A cobbled together DIY screen around the 'bar' area is laughably unsightly, the chairs uncomfortable with no seat cushions and heavy footed waiting staff rocked the table each time they passed. Such a shame and it spoiled our experience.Very nice people, excellent food, good service but mix matched decor and rocking tables (I believe due to the floor and staff walking by, not the tables themselves) let the place and our otherwise excellent experience down.We would return for the food without question one of the best meals we've had but unfortunately the restaurant itself needs to be brought up to scratch and the customer experience other than the food made more comfortable first.

Multiple members of the team wished me a happy birthday. The bread basket was lovely to graze on while we perused the menu and the butter was especially delicious. We had the venison carpaccio and soup to start - both highly recommendable. For mains, the sirloin steak - again, incredible. The team were so attentive without being intrusive and always made sure we had wherever we wanted. To finish, we shared the espresso chocolate torte accompanied by hot drinks. Preamble: I don't write many reviews on here, but I think other potential guests should be warned that not every experience of Chez Dominique is great. I have tried not to be mean, but to be honest. My intention is to be helpful. If the team at the restaurant read this and can address the issues, all the better.---I’m glad so many reviewers have liked Chez Dominique: I wonder what went wrong for us?I have thought long and hard, and I am certain that nothing we did from booking to departure could possibly have caused offence. There are some horrible rude customers out there: we are not them. We were on time, courteous and friendly throughout. When we booked a couple of weeks ahead we were offered one of two sittings - 6.30 or 8.30. Fair enough, it was for a Friday night, the week before Christmas, and we know Chez Dominique is only tiny, so although we’d’ve preferred 7 or 7.30 we chose 6.30.Then Covid omicron hit; people were cancelling hotels and restaurants all over. Two days before our booking I got a call from Gaby, obviously to check if we were still coming, though I had to ask the reason for the call. She was friendly and charming, and said she looked forward to welcoming us.Come the day, though, we arrived, on time, to be met - I couldn’t say we were ‘greeted’, and we were definitely not ‘welcomed’ - by a plump and unsmiling Frenchman. (Is he French? Most of his communication with us was in grunts, so I could easily be wrong.) There was a bit of a kerfuffle about finding our name in the book, so we were left standing in the doorway for rather a long time, given that there are, what, a dozen tables max? Surely it’s not hard to remember a few diners’ names before they arrive? Surely it's not necessary to walk back and forth to the book several times before being assured that we were who we said we were - especially as we'd spoken on the phone just 48 hours earlier?Sadly, this set the pattern. Eventually, with a blend of grumpiness and condescension, we were led to our table. No one offered to take our coats, until I went to hang them up myself. We ordered, but nothing in the accueil was refined or friendly. It was all a bit mechanical. Our starters arrived promptly, and were nice enough; but that’s when the real trouble began. After our starters were cleared, we waited ages for our main courses. Other tables got served. We waited. After half an hour or so, I asked if everything was OK: my answer was a Gallic grunt.A few minutes later I asked again. This time Gaby actually went to the kitchen and checked: our food was just coming, she said. But it wasn’t. By the time we were served it was 7.50. Remember that we had been forced into a 6.30 booking; there were three people on front of house, and a mere dozen tables, not all occupied. The menu is short, and nothing in our order was at all complicated. There’s no reason at all we should have waited so long. No one topped up our wine, or checked in with us, or came near us at all. Here’s what should have happened. After, say, twenty minutes, one of the wait staff should have noticed the delay, and checked the order without my having to ask. Then they should have come to us and we should have got a smiling apology, and a reassurance that the order hadn’t been forgotten - which I bet is what had happened, actually. When we were finally served, it wasn’t with any grace or courtesy - and absolutely without any apology. The food was fine, really, but the service was bordering on insulting. Desserts were ordered and eaten, and I’ll tell you what DID arrive promptly, and without our even asking for it - the bill. Having kept us waiting earlier, now they obviously wanted to turn the table as soon as possible. I’ve never ever been brought a restaurant bill without asking for it or being offered it. It would have been nice if they’d checked we were ready for it.I made no complaint at the time, as I wanted my guests to feel comfortable, but in retrospect it was all very unsatisfactory, and our evening was not pleasant enough to justify the price, however good the food. If I hadn't had guests, I'd have made an issue of it - to the extent, perhaps, of refusing to pay in full. Now, everyone can have a bad day, and this is Covid times: we’re all a bit stressed. Being masked all evening must be a dead bore. And maybe they’d had a raft of cancellations and were fearful of their future (though we were told, smugly, ‘we are always busy’). There could be any number of reasons why the service was a bit off.But a good few hospitality businesses will not survive this pandemic: maybe only those who constantly strive to do better will make it. I hope Chez Dominique will be one of them, because it’s exactly the sort of place that would normally appeal to me; it has got a lot of good things about it - as so many other reviewers have found. But it needs to maintain a high level of hospitality not just some of the time, but all the time, with every punter, without exception. It didn’t do that for us. I might go again. Maybe on another day it would be different. But on this experience I wouldn’t rush to.I don't discourage others from trying Chez Dominique; but perhaps be very aware of the passage of time, and start querying your order if nothing appears within 15-20 minutes. And of course the best outcome would be for the people at CD to read this and sharpen up their courtesy. It costs nothing, and being nice to people would encourage them back. I sincerely hope that will happen.

We had dinner here fifteen months ago. It was as good this time as it was then. Wood pigeon, pear salad and scallops were superb as appetisers. Bucatini, pork chop and duck for mains - all of them excellent. Crème brûlée was very good indeed. Excellent service and oh, yes, the restaurant was nicely heated.

Superb lunch. The pork chop I had was so delicious I'd rank it in my top 3 pork chops ever. Great friendly service wrapped up in a very lovely location.

We had dinner at Chez Dominique on Wednesday night but although the food was very tasty and well prepared, we had an uncomfortable experience as the restaurant was freezing cold. The building had no heating whatsoever and we had to move table twice. There was a tiny heater visible but away from all the diners and we asked to have it plugged behind us. The waiting team was not concerned with our welfare and stated it was an old Georgian building. But we are the middle of December and it is not pleasurable to eat in a cold restaurant. We were in two minds to go elsewhere but we stayed regardless It is a pity as the food is very good .. we won’t return

We were lucky enough to get a table at this lovely restaurant. We hadn't booked, so were elated when a table became available due to a last minute cancellation on Monday evening. The wine list is great and the menu is a good selection of seasonal foods. We've enjoyed chicory, roquefort and walnut salad and a lovely squid and mussel dish to start with and for our main meal we chose a succulent pork chop and the most tender onglet steak. The side dishes were also delicious. Staff were very friendly and accommodating. Thank you Chez Dominique!
