The food was basicly what you get at every Witherspoons ok , not wonderful but ok . I had the steak and kidney pie and thought it was not bad , the chips that came with it again not bad , but the mushy peas were very bland . I had a pint with my meal and that was good . I found the staff again did their job well enough , no plates left on the tables so no problems on that front .

Convince yourself you are on the set of Michael Jackson’s “Thriller” by going into this place at 9 in the morning. Also cooked breakfast was stone cold.

Fairly empty at this time of day however the tables were stacked high with with glasses, jugs and plates. There was almost nowhere to sit due to the filth. I have worked at many pubs in my time and if I ever let the tables get into this state I would have been fired on the spot. Disgusting from a well established chain.

Very early in morning , doors just opened and I popped in for breakfast, so can't really judge on atmosphere

The place was filthy. Food was OK. Took ages for the drinks to arrive, even after talking to a manager. I'd rather go to Georges Meeting Place or The Imperial

Waited an eternity for drinks ordered from the app. Gave up in the end and went to collect from the bar. Unfortunately I had to join a long queue of other people who were also waiting for their app drinks. Whilst I was doing that I must have missed the food I ordered because that never arrived. I gave up in the end and went somewhere else. Worst spoons experience I have ever had and I’m out of pocket because of it. The pub didn’t even seem that busy.

Been here multiple times now . Each time drinks take over 20 minutes to arrive, I’d expect this if it was busy, but when it’s it’s clearly quiet and I’m waiting that long it’s crazy. I’m from Ilfracombe and if we order a drink it’s on your table within 2 minutes.

Unfortunately I had to frequent this establishment due to a business meetup. Was hoping for a better visit but alas the pub manager Craig is still there, running this establishment into the ground. What happened to the staff? ... they all look like they didn't want to be there, but I am unsurprised with the manager they have trying to run the place!! Terrible. Please sack the manager and get the decent, friendly staff back!!

Beer OK but what a dump. Plenty of staff but whole place was a mess. Nobody clearing tables and plates of half eaten food everywhere. Staff just walking backwards and forwards straight past them. Needs a shift leader/manager!

Great food 😋 will definitely come here again.. After ordering, food arrived within 10 mins

1 bar staff member only serving at the time we visited, so she was under pressure and it was busy. However she completely ignored us when we told her we were next to be served after a lady in front of us. She served the lady first and then despite us saying we were next she ignored us and served someone else. When we pointed out that we had been next she tutted and said she was serving him as he’d been in the pub a while. She was surly and when I asked if there was a bar upstairs she was rude and curt. My friends and I left and went elsewhere where we were welcome. Would not visit again and would not recommend

Absolutely shocking service, took ages and constantly ignored!

Ordered a pizza which arrived burnt & had hardly any cheese so I sent it back. It was replaced with a still burnt pizza (although less burnt than previous) and still hardly any cheese. Manager explained there is less cheese used now, fair enough, but they were STILL 2 burnt pizzas. They said because I only said about the cheese on the 2nd one they can't refund me, I hadn't only said about the cheese either time I said specifically "burnt AND hardly any cheese" BOTH TIMES. Managed to take a pic of the second one they wouldn’t let me take a pic of the first - they said they can’t refund me because the amount of cheese was correct - I said that’s fine but they were still BOTH burnt - they accepted the first pizza was burnt but not the second when it’s clearly still burnt - brown and cheese dry from being burnt. They still refused. I was on my lunch break from work so I went without any lunch because this happened/took my full lunch hour. It's a Wetherspoons! Beer and food are nice and cheap - I've never had a bad pint at Wetherspoons, and the good will never win any awards, but you know what you're going to get and it's always reasonable quality for a good price.

Been too many Wetherspoons and usually i enjoy them. Get what you pay for. The Chevalier inn though was by far the worst Wetherspoons I have been too. The place was empty and they still couldn’t serve us correctly. Staff were very rude. The curry came out with the rice still in the microwave bag. The pasta was cold and had to be returned twice! Our drinks came when we had already ate our food. When we asked if we could have some cutlery we were told “I’ve only got 2 hands” with a lot of attitude. There’s a reason why it was empty as other Wetherspoons are always busy.

This is a cozy (ish) Spoons where the food can be a bit hit and miss sometimes .. but it's generally pretty good. The pub does have an open fire, plenty of seating (with a large upstairs seating area) .. there is some outside seating but we have never sat there as we are not smokers. Like all Wetherspoons it can get very busy due to its location in Exeter so sometimes it might be worth walking down to George's Meeting Room. The drinks are a bargain though with all you can stomach coffee/tea/hot chocolate.

Absolutely shocking rude as hell people rice come in plastic bags and food freezing . Wouldn't waste your time

8 of us went here today was advised to order on line.waited 40 mins for our drinks and gave up and went to get them.but after waiting an hour and a half for a mini chocolate brownie (and three visits to the bar to ask why) we gave up got our money back and left .don't go here disgusting dirty and the poor staff are overwhelmed.

Okay pub , not as nice as some others have been too, one man was sat in the corner vaping, which he shouldn't be doing indoors, in a pub, and their was a loud crowd in the corner, so we left.... Not one of my favourite weatherspoons... Bobby_G

Very dark, children allowed to run around in areas where hot food and drink are being served. Was offered a coffee in a paper cup because "We've ran out of mugs". No, at least THIRTY left uncollected on tables along with used crockery/cutlery. Best avoid this place until Staff up thier game by about 100%.

You get cheap drinks, very cheap but a long wait at the bar with staff chattng and trying to find a table to sit at that wasn't cluttered with dirty plates proved impossible. But the drinks are cheap!

Food is good for its price, staff were very helpful, in particular Ash - he saw a part of my table's order that wasn't sent out and checked up on it, meaning I didn't need to wait any longer. Ash a real one :)

Took most of an hour for a pizza and a drink. Had to ask where it all was, then carry my own drink after ordering on the app. Pizza wasn't what I ordered. No apology from waiter. Complete waste of time. Pathetic

Stopped at Exeter on way back from Cornwall and went in on the off chance. Floor was really sticky and so was the service. I ordered on the app. The drink cartoon for my son had something brown and sticky on, so I asked at the bar for a replacement, it wasn’t much better so I had to wipe it. The waitress who brought the food out had a bowl of chips sat on-top of the child’s spaghetti bolognaise. My wife ordered the burrito salad bowl (with chilli con carne) but the chilli never arrived. When we mentioned this the staff went and had a conversation with what appeared to be his manager, he then came over with a receipt and questioned our order, once i showed him the order email on my phone he apologised at stated that they would refund us for the chilli, and that would go straight back onto my card. Almost a week later and no refund has appeared. To top it all off their ‘funky’ toilets upstairs were full of midges flying everywhere. Disgusting feel to the place and the staff did not really seem to care. I know weather-spoons are cheap and cheerful but this was cheap and disgusting

After spending a couple of hours in this pub we were appalled by the cleanliness of ground floor. At no point were tables cleared of glasses or meal plates. We could see this was due to lack of staff. We were served by a very pleasant member of staff who only had one pair of hands and was trying her best to serve as quick as possible but with no back up, had to get wine from pump from upstairs as not available on ground bar. This is unexceptionable and deserves your attention. It’s obvious extra staff is needed. GEORGES Meeting house knocks spots off of The Chevalier.

Nice meal arrived quickly and was enjoyable

very dissatisfied with the pasta here, my friend got a normal portion of pasta and it came in 50 mins and it was only about 10 spoonfuls if that being generous, also cant smoke in the beer garden, what is the point of having a beer garden if you can’t smoke in it. not hating just educating xx

Why is it so difficult to scramble eggs ? All it takes is a bowl and a fork. And not burn toast ? I ate what I could as in a hurry.

It's a wetherspoons, you get what you expect. Good outside seating areas though. Unfortunately they had run out of chicken so I couldn't have the wrap I wanted or the southern fried basket as second choice. But it's reasonably priced and you can order from your phone which we love.

Worst service and food of any spoons I’ve been to

Absolute shambles. Josh behind the bar had no idea what was going on. Ordered on app and it never turned up even though I went up and told him 3 times and he kept telling me they were not their way. Been robbed by the place bought 4 pitchers and shots that never arrived. Avoid at all costs!

Awful- food had been standing around for a while before served to us — I think my friend had the lucky escape as they forgot to serve her her meal !!!!!!!

Unfortunately whilst taking my 80 year old mum into this venue I don't think I can persuade her of the value for money wetherspoons are renowned for. As we are on a tight budget we decided on this venue as she wanted to treat me.We sat at three different tables which were all sticky and had food debris on them .The carpet was also sticky .When going to the bar I leant over as bar staff were chatting ,so they could see me , to get service and was covered in beer.At this pointI decided that we should leave and eat else where .I have worked in this industry for over 30 years and not one to complain, but cleanliness is always top priority.

It use to be a nice friendly play to go with family but under a mew manager gow was rude and arrogant the friendly staff that use to greet you are not there enymore shame could have been so much more than the sham it has become its disgusting how the manager Craig speaks to i customers and bitching about staff then getting rid of them for not being in his delusional little bubble

My mother went for lunch with a friend. The Manager, by the name of Craig, was rude and obnoxious. She was made to feel very unwelcome and will not return after spending many years meeting up with friends there. I did warn her to go to The Imperial instead though!

Quality of food was standard for a weatherspoons as well as prices for food and drink. Atmosphere again, was standard for a weatherspoons however seemed to be a few locals propping up the bar now and again. Spread over a few floors with outside terrace however smokers must smoke on the street out front where there are no ashtrays. Not a welcoming site upon arrival

Advertise pride event - advertise drag dj and drag act reality … depressed looking staff who looked like they been forced to dress up… A “dj” on a laptop who looked more at their phone than the dance floor and when I requested 2 songs … didn’t have but “don’t worry I’ll try and YouTube them”. The drag act 20 minutes late - stopped the music altogether and then just walked around the pub …. Whole pub is a shambles … bring back REAL DJ James!!! Only best bit of my evening was watching the doorstaff restrain a trouble maker on the dance floor - well done then as caused minimal fuss!

Got there about 1pm found seat ordered on app drinks came about 10mins later food came about 50 mins later ,that was only I spoke to a manager) I think ) lovely lady who was having trouble talking to the kitchen don't think they didn't want to talk to her . She came with food a few minutes later piping hot and tasted lovely .

This place sucks. I was outside having a vape, and I saw a barman taking my drink off the table. I went inside, to try and save it, but I got told "You left it, you loose it" I agree with all the negative reviews on here, it's a horrible place, with the most unfriendly doormen you'd ever meet. A couple of weeks ago, they wouldn't even let me go in to change my baby. "It's past 6pm, so They're is no one under 16 allowed" It was 18:15, and all I wanted to do was change my babies nappy, but they wouldn't let me. It's A horrible place. Avoid like the plague.

Worst spoons I haver ever been in, bothe myself and my friend served flat beer from rude staff, after I tried to return the pint to the bar I was kept waiting before bring confronted by the rudest manager I have ever met, telling me that there was nothing wrong with my beer (this is after my friends one had been replaced, which was a saga of redness in itself). I left without consuming more then a sip of an awful pint, whilst being accused of being deliberately awkward. All I wanted was a quiet lunch time pint with my mate, never ever would I step foot in this place again and as for the ginger heard barman, he shouldn't be in a public serving job

I know there is a shortage of staff but if they were more organised tables could be cleared. When they deliver food they should takeaway empty plates n glasses with them. Staff were friendly

This pub is in the centre large pub on 3 floors so lots of places to sit, no beer garden as such but outside seating & no smoking area except outside on the pavement

Used to like this place but lots of friendly old faces gone and replaced with new miserable ones. Apparently it is under new management, so that might explain how it's gone from quite good to terrible. The food was good, the attitude of floor staff, appalling. Will stick to The Imperial from now on! Hopefully the new manager won't ruin that place too!! Bloody shame that one person can affect an establishment so badly! Where are the friendly staff gone?? Left to find a better place to work I hope! Will not be visiting again. I'll save my money for a better run pub!

The ginger haired guy who kept reminding us that he was ‘in charge’ cut my friend off from drinking (never experienced this before) we had come here for a couple drinks and honestly thought he was joking as my friend had had about 2 drinks here. Really rude staff, I am a manager of a bar myself and would never imagine to treat a customer this way. Horrid experience from somewhere we had gone regularly.

We went in for a quick breakfast. The food came fast and cheap. It was edible... The fire was nice, but everything felt a bit dull compared to other spoons historic buildings.

By far the worse Weather spoons I have ever been in. Placed an order for drinks on the app, waited over half an hour ( the bar had a small queue to start but then emptied). Went to the bar and it was difficult to find someone to make two mocktails . Extremely dirty and food all over the floor None of the staff seemed to be worried about the state which was slowly getting worse. Toilets were minging. Hope to never have the misfortune to visit again

Went here for a meal on Bank Holiday Friday evening.. I ordered the large Mixed Grill, and it took no longer than 10 minutes to arrive, which I thought was good... but alas, the first thing I cut into, the lamb steak was only just seared on the outside and was red raw on the inside.. as the Bar was extremely busy I took it back to the Kitchen entrance and asked the KP to ask chef to just put it all back under the grill for a few minutes informing him I'll be waiting back at my table wich I have him the number... after about 7-8 minutes, the plate arrived back at my table, undisturbed and was exactly as it left my hands just 7-8 minutes COLDER... I then, this time, went straight to the bar with the plate and asked to speak to the duty manager.. he arrived after less than a minute, and I explained to him what had transpired over the last 15 minutes.. he apologised and said he would go to the kitchen and cook me a fresh meal, HIMSELF if I didn't mind the wait.. I agreed, and the meal arrived personally delivered by his hand in about 10 minutes, presented extremely well, and cooked to perfection.. I commended him and shook his hand in thanks as he had done a fantastic job.. but the actual chef at the time I ordered had done abysmal work.. I commend the duty manager as his professional ism was perfect in handling the situation and the meal he cooked was perfect.

AVOID. What a complete dive. We stopped to have a few pints after doing some shopping. Walked in and greeted by 2 completely hammered people, singing and swearing, Should have been stopped drinking but no, bar staff were still happy to serve them. So we have a few pints and it got to the time that security had started. Been in and out to have a smoke, went back up and sat at the table. Door staff came over and ask me to remove my hat because apparently there cameras could not see my face. According to there policy, you can not wear hats in weatherspoons pubs. Complete joke, never again will I set foot into this pub or any other of your grotty establishments again

Our burger was delivered missing a patty. The sticky soy sauce was either gone off or replaced with something else because it tasted disgusting and was cloudy with bits in. Spoke to a manager and he completely dismissed us.

Very busy pub. Lots of people in food and service was pretty good. Only issue was only one coffee machine working other one out of order.

First time and absoultely awful service. Tables packed high of dirty plates. Therefore no were to sit. Photos for evidence. People coming into the pub and actually going to the bar to get cleaning products to clean there own tables. As a waitor and they never return. A waitress sniggered when we asked for our drinks. Also waitress to busy chatting to friends and ignored customers.

Called in with only 40 minutes to spare before an event at the Corn Exchange. Great drinks, quick and spot on food. Recommended 👍

I waited 25 minutes for a wetherspoon app order for 2 pints of beer, after going to the bar asking when my order would arrive, twice. Also, they would only take cash at the bar!

Love this place but sad that there is no DJ on a Friday night 😞 always end up going elsewhere for music and a boogie but love the cheap drinks and the bouncers they’re very friendly. Especially Shaun and John x

This place is good for a meal and dessert on a budget, drinks and alcoholic drinks are also good value for money, offering cocktails as well as pints and shots. This venue also doubles as a sort of nightclub at the weekends. Since then they have started alienating the clientele, trying to cut people off for no reason after 1 drink, would not recommend for a night out but if you just want a meal it is fine

On occasions, the wait time is impressively short, around 5 minutes; however, there are instances when it extends up to 30 minutes, particularly if the staff seems disinterested or less diligent. The ambiance is a mixed bag, occasionally marred by boisterous and abrasive individuals, but balanced by the warmth of friendly and welcoming locals.

Always go here before hitting the gym the breakfast is fantastic although the atmosphere is very loud

Been coming here on and off for years never really spoke much to the staff but recently meet "Craig" new manager such a nice, conscientious guy! What a credit to this establishment and for whetherspoons, to have. Always good value for drinks and food as well. Definitely be coming here instead of avoiding for months like before because my recent experience was great!

Nice staff but grubby, and a bit rough round the edges. Nice roof gardens though and good outside areas.

The pub was filthy the tables were all full of dirty pots ..we waited 45mins or our food threatened to leave if the food wasn't served immediately..toilets were all full and didn't flush ..the staff was struggling to keep up with the demands.this pub needs a good deep clean and brought back to how it used to be ..until then We will not be visiting this establishment until something changes .
