Chestnut Bakery Covent Garden in City of London, Westminster

Food is superb, only one wittering staff managing multiple tables, although he was good at his job, need more staff to attend tables. We walked in there is a message to wait at the entrance no one came for ages until I called the busy waiters attention. Atmosphere is not great. Tables are too close to each other people next to us were intently listening into our conversation, no privacy. Great location. Improvements to be made.

Had high hopes but let down by the food. Eggs were overdone. Focaccia was stale. Tea was like dishwater. Croissants are seriously overhyped. Nice place aesthetically, and staff were friendly.

The food was mediocre. We ordered egg flatbread and there was no eggs on more than 60% of the flatbread. The service was terrible, worst service ever. The place was not crowded at all with almost half tables being empty, yet we waited 40 minutes to receive our food. When trying to reach to the waiter, we had to wait 7-10 minutes for him to come over. This is by far the worst breakfast place I tried in London. Definitely not worth the hype.

Top notch bakery, cute, great baked goods, and just super tasty. All the pastries were buttery, especially the croissant. The zataar knot was fantastic, especially with a bit of labneh. The pistachio croissant was sweet, but not sugary. Overall just great, the service was a bit too slow though.

Chestnut Café is a charming spot tucked away on a pedestrian street in Covent Garden, almost directly opposite TK Maxx. You’ll spot it easily thanks to the eye-catching entrance adorned with artificial flowers. Inside, there’s table seating to the right and a tempting display of pastries to the left, with the bakery area just behind. The café offers a mix of savoury and sweet pastries, and what stood out to me was how unique the sweet selection was—definitely not your standard fare. One particularly intriguing choice was the tiramisu Danish. It looked more like a nut-shaped pastry with a rich tiramisu filling in the centre. I took it away and had it for dinner about eight hours later—despite losing some crispiness, it still held up well and the filling was delicious. The overall ambience of the café is fairly typical—nothing extraordinary—but the pastries are certainly above average. I also tried the chocolate and hazelnut flan, which resembled a cronut filled with Nutella. Visually, it was stunning, but unfortunately, it turned out to be far too sweet for my taste.

I've been doing a pastry tour in London, and I had high hopes for Chestnut Bakery. Even though there were a lot of interesting pastries, and it sounded amazing, the taste wasn't great. I also felt like it was quite expensive—great portion sizes, but I was quite disappointed. The staff was very friendly and lovely though, and the place was quite spacious inside which was nice.

Sweets and their baked goods are of several types. They are very good. I ordered a flat white, unfortunately it is not good.

Went out with friends. Great food, bread, olives, and coffee. I wish if the music was a little bit more smooth but the vibe was good. Manis and Amin were extra extra helpful. 7 stars for them.

I just ate vanilla bun and latte here, all were delicious. The serving lady was so nice, and asked me if I have allergy to anything. I like this because I have an allergic son and we have difficulties sometimes with restaurants and coffees. I admired their consideration, and will keep coming here when I visit London.

I didn't eat much there. I had simple things. The tea is delicious and the coffee is average. The croissants are delicious and the sweets are average. They have a beautiful view of a narrow street in Covent Garden that takes you to another world.

Everything was so wonderful! We had flat bread and pastry and it was so delicious! It was my friend’s birthday and the staff treated her with a lovely coffee, the service was great, A BIG thanks to Manish he’s done his best to make our visit is nice.

Amazing Tiramisu and nice and spacious seating! Varied options of flatbread flavours and drinks. Definitely recommend for friend groups.

I believe this place is losing its momentum and becoming just another average spot. It starts with the strange ordering process-pastries are displayed on the ground floor but not listed on the menu upstairs, so you have to go down, take pictures or note what you want, then return to order. The food is generally very good, but the customer service really lets it down-from taking orders to paying, the whole experience feels disorganised and unwelcoming. Reply to the owner: Hi, Thanks for taking the time to reply-I really appreciate it. I’ve actually visited the bakery a couple of times, including last weekend, and on each occasion the team upstairs directed me downstairs to check out the pastry selection. I was encouraged to either take photos or write down the names, since many of the pastries available weren’t listed on the menu or shown through the QR code. There was quite a large variety not reflected there, which is why I felt the experience could be clearer. Thanks again for following up-I’m happy to provide more feedback if helpful.

We’ve order the potato & garlic, the vanilla bun, and the flatbread (Burrata, Burnt Honey, Sesame & Fennel Seeds) plus, flat white and chai latte. Appreciated the vanilla bun as it was not overly sweet and the rest was also nice. We were served by Nishad, he was friendly, fun and attentive!

Tiny cup of mango matcha cream/latte for £8.75… such a rip off… Think they deliberately not advertise the price on the poster/menu… The taste of matcha wasn’t obvious too, mango syrup was too sweet.

Having previously visited the Victoria branch of Chestnut - we thought we would try the Covent Garden branch this morning . It was in a really nice part of Covent Garden, nice and airy inside, we were greeted and seated promptly. Food and beverages came in good time . We ordered the flat bread with cheese and Zaatar which was delicious and their amazing almond croissants, which lived up to their high standards. Service was good also, they were polite and offered us small plates if they thought we needed them. One big thing that disappointed me was we were emailed a 15% discount and then it was such a hassle to claim it and you have to get the app and put in some code. This can be quite arduous and time consuming ! I think it should be easier for customers. I was slightly annoyed- however Amar apologised and sorted it out for us. He was very calm and friendly and dealt with the situation very well. Would definitely recommend this place and I will be back . Many thanks to all the team .

Hard to describe this rating, however, recommended to go for the croissants. We arrived and were seated fairly quickly upstairs. It took them 10 minutes to come and take our order as they were very busy and only two wait staff on. 1 person ordered croque monsieur croisssant and a cinnamon roll. These came within 5 minutes along with the drinks. To say these were amazing is an understatement they were and I would highly recommend. HOWEVER 40 minutes later the 3 flatbreads we ordered eventually arrived after multiple complaints and being told 30 minutes in they had only just been put in the oven as they were too busy downstairs! When they did arrive what a horror show, the ricotta and honey was an insipid mess swimming in water from the ricotta and the sausage one was more like a lamb kofta patty that was undercooked, 0 flavour and raw with blood coming out; so I did not eat it hardly. To be fair to the wait staff they gave me a 20% discount and removed the sausage flatbread. But that was not the point.

Very nice place in a nice central but quiet street of the city. The cookie is delicious (a mix between a cookie and a croissant), the pastrami bagel is also good even if the filling was not much (especially compared to sandwiches). The chai is good. Slow service regarding drinks.

Excellent Pastries Absolutely love the savoury pastries of this bakery. Tasted so flakey and buttery, everything was made in perfection. So glad that they would heat the pastries for the customers. Personally I hate cold pastries. I was so impressed that they would put the prices and descriptions on the pastries. So that customers could make their own decision while queueing, no time wasting. You do not want every customer to ask the staff about the products(from what fillings to prices) while finally at the front of the queue. Otherwise the queue would be extra long and slow. The cafe was clean and tidy, despite it being busy. I would come back for other pastries when I pass by Convert Garden again!

I liked how well they serve you here, they also looked for a Spanish-speaking person because they didn't understand something we asked and the girl was super nice. We tried a croissant that was luxurious. Next time we will stop there for breakfast, because this time we ordered it to go.

The bread is so delicious, just like Korean bakery bread, and the store is not small, so it’s comfortable! I found myself by chance in front of this place while I was wandering around Covent Garden, I wasn't hungry but I went in anyway because the place seemed very nice, when I saw the marvels of pastries on display I convinced myself to get something to take to a friend's house. The bartender was super nice, she was Italian and it was nice to be served in my language (which rarely happens to me) and she recommended some pieces to try. I found everything very good and I absolutely recommend treating yourself to a breakfast or snack here!! Thanks to Alessandra for recommending these desserts to me!

Excellent place for breakfast. (I recommend croissant and espresso) Impeccably furnished in a beautiful area of ​​London. Only place in London where I felt like I was in Italy. Last, but not least… the staff, attentive to the customer and super kind. What can I say, I highly recommend!

Driven by the excellent reviews we tried this bakery twice in a row. Very cozy and also with plenty of seating. Nice open counter with quality products, even with some weekly specials. Good American coffee, although the cappuccino needed to be reviewed. Don't expect anything cheap, but it is worth considering given the location.

It is worth trying, repeating and repeating

The Pastrami sandwich is a must try. The sourdough toast used is geourgeus. Everything is Halal. The service is very good and super friendly. Manish and Anandu were very attentive and friendly. Will drop by again and will probably try something else but the Pastrami is a must try (yes again)

Tried brunch at Chestnut Bakery and was pleasantly surprised. Their baked goods are excellent, with a great variety of sweet and savoury options. The frittata was delicious, and the coffee was surprisingly top-notch—easily up to specialty coffee standards. There was a long queue, but honestly, it was worth the wait.

Delicious. Honestly, the service was good. I never took anything from them. I didn’t like it. Today I took the cheese sandwich once. It was delicious, but it contained caramelized onions. We didn’t write that, but it was also delicious. We ordered manakish with cheese and thyme, sweet once, and the dough once sweet, and we ordered it exactly.

The tiramisu Danish is ridiculously good

We visited the cafe on Saturday the 5th of April 2:30pm. We were left waiting in the queue for 10 minutes until someone came to seat us upstairs which is already too long. The place was busy and it felt like the place was understaffed with only 1 person managing the floor upstairs and 1 downstairs. I felt sorry for the employees who were clearly overloaded and struggling to keep up with the demand of the busy lunch time. We sat upstairs & after a few minutes our order was taken. We order a mozzarella & tomato focaccia & the egg and mozzarella from the all day breakfast. The focaccia arrived fairly swiftly but was extremely soggy from the cheese. We then waited 20 minutes for the hot food, which was 4 slices of bread with a sad cheesy fried egg in a cast iron & a soggy under seasoned tomato. 0 out of 10. Not to mention that it should have arrived together at the same time with the focaccia. As it was getting busier another waitering staff joined to assist upstairs but they were still struggling. One of the supervisor who is bold, poked his head upstairs , looked around , did nothing & went back downstairs. The overall experience was bad. We were still hungry after the meal as we didn't finish it because it was no good so we ordered a plain croissant as the last alternative. The croissant was lovely , 10 out of 10. Overall I would say it appears this place is good for take away but not the best for a dining / eating in experience. The staff seem overloaded and the distribution of work is uneven. While people are queuing, waiting to be seated, the guy taking the orders for the "take away" had no orders and wasn't doing anything, he was even flirting with one of the customers. Meanwhile other members of staff were busy trying to manage the busy time. The overall good experince was bad, I think it was around £12.50 for the mozzarella and egg breakfast.. way to expensive for a few slices of bread with a fried egg and a soggy tomato if u ask me. I'd also like to mention the whole time we were sitting down there was a slice of pizza that was on the floor which the waiters were obviously too busy to pick up. I took it upon myself to go and put it in the bin. I also realised there were forks laying around on the floor which they probably were too busy to notice. Everyone was really nice but the food and service was a let down. My advice, if u want better service EMPLOY MORE STAFF.

It is 100% worth stopping by this place, the pastry is EXCELLENT, we ordered Damián Tiramisú, Vanilla Bun and a Pain au chocolat and they are all highly recommended. Together with 2 coffees and tips it cost us £25 so also a good price

We had breakfast there on a Saturday morning, the place was crowded, so many people asking for takeaway sitting at the tables and enjoying their morning as a family. The exterior is beautiful. They have two floors, so before you think it's full and pass by, go in and ask because their coffees and croissants are well worth it. I ordered a latte and the almond croissant and it was delicious The service and attention was very good, the croissants melt in your mouth and crunch when you bite into them. Undoubtedly a very good option to stop for breakfast on the way to Covent Garden. We will repeat 100%.

Chestnut Bakery was recommended by a friend for a quick bite to eat whilst out in Covent Garden… and she was right, absolutely delicious food, the cinnamon roll was warmed up slightly which was great. I would definitely recommend that, my only gripe was that my coffee was too small… I wish I had ordered another! As we were leaving we noticed that there was a long queue of customers outside waiting for a table… now that is a good sign!

What a brilliant place! I found it by accident at 4:30 pm on a Monday. Too late for lunch, too early for dinner. We only ordered food to be polite but wow! Everything seemed a bit on the pricey side...until it arrived. All 5 of us loved the food and drinks we chose. Worth every penny. Absolutely delicious. Also, Nishad was fantastic. His customer service was exceptional. Above and beyond. We were an awkward bunch and he was so keen that we were all happy. You can tell genuine care when you see it! He made sure everyone knew what they were ordering, offered good suggestions and helpful advice. He then checked that we were happy with everything. He did everything he could to make our visit enjoyable. The other staff seemed great as well. I will be coming back with more friends soon, based on this great experience. Thank you Nishad. Genuinely great experience!

I truly can't believe that any of these 5* reviews are real. The service was dreadful considering how ridiculously overpriced everything in this shop is, even by London standards. The Crookie - which cost a whopping £6.75 to take away !! - was cloying and the cookie dough itself tasted stale (for reference, I went in the late morning, so this clearly isn't freshly made). The croissant was utterly nondescript. It really shouldn't have cost more than £4-5 maximum. If you really want to try a 'crookie', do yourself a colossal favour and buy cookie dough from literally anywhere else in London, combine with any basic butter croissant, and you'll have a far superior taste experience for a fraction of the cost. I certainly will not be returning to try any of the other pastries.
