While craving for Indian food in Edinburgh, came across with this restaurant, conveniently located quite close to University . Loved the courteous attendants and authentic South Indian flavour We ordered for nonveg thali .. With ample serving .. Will recommend to others

Ordered a Chicken rice, Chicken 65 and a Chilli Chicken for collection. Was told that it will take 25 minutes. Went after 25 minutes and waited for more than 1 hour. Finally got the food after escalation and it was too cold. The guys at the till were really rude!

Delivery took 2 hours and 8 minutes despite claiming it would be ready in 45 minutes. Then forgot our poppadoms. Utterly incompetent.

Ordered food for my son’s birthday. Called after an hour to see where it was. They said it was ready but 20 minutes later, still nothing and it now appears they’ve taken the phone off the hook. This is a joke. It’s not even the weekend!

Authentic Indian food which are so delicious

I've ordered a couple of times from the restaurant in Dalry road because the food is interesting. Ok the fish pakora was soggy but the Congura chicken and Pallipalayan chicken were tasty. However, I won't go back as there were only a few little bits of chicken floating around.

Food is really worst. Ordered lamb Briyani and chicken lollipop and I got burnt food. When I called them to complaint but they hang up the call in the middle and refused to take my call after that. Overall experience is really bad and I won’t suggest anyone to get it from here..please find the photos of my food

Service was really good, it is just take away only, no dine in here. Food was really good, we ordered chicken biriyani, chicken kothu parotta, chukka, chicken 65, all were good. Packaging was also good. Overall very nice. Thanks for good desi food in Edinburgh, Scotland.

Not really very happy. Had a pretty overpriced (£13!) and crude biryani that had some clearly cooked then went cold then popped in the microwave chicken thighs, some burnt onions thrown on and some slightly crumbly gelatinised rice. Not much a of a sauce / flavour profile. Disappointing. Unsure if the curries themselves are any good but reluctant to return after this.

A group of us visited the new Southside restaurant, it's quite a small intimate place, so it seemed it would be OK. Service was a bit slow, but eventually we managed to place our order. Five minutes later, what I can only call a pub singer started at full volume (remember a very small place), so much so I could not hear any of my companions speaking. A few minutes later I just gave up and left. The rest of our group said the food was very good. I would loved yo have tried it.

Great takeaway food every time!

Delicious, authentic and freshly cooked southern Indian and Sri Lankan food. The dosa was beautifully crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. Ceylon lamb curry was beautifully tender and aromatic. Please do not be put off by the decor and plastic chairs - this is also authentic. 10 minute walk from Haymarket Station We will definitely visit again

Best Indian food in Scotland! Everything was fresh, beautifully served, with live music we definitely had great evening. Lots of choices for people who love spicy food or who prefer mild meals like me. Everything was delicious. Don't forget to order a dessert! Heaven in mouth and so original. Highly recommend!

The Hyderabadi biryani was horrible and frozen nothing like fresh. The rice itself wasn't biryani rice its broken and small . For the expensive price , it's not worth at all and to make it worse they charging £1.50 for a can of coke while I'm there. It's a robbery and I said that on their face.

Cold, arrived late, restaurant said the driver broke down. Driver said the restaurant made it very late. Won’t be going back. Biryani dry, almost no lamb. Butter chicken bereft of chicken.

Hugely disappointed. Hour and a half wait for 2 small containers of runny curry powder tasting slop with a few bits of lamb in one and chicken in the other, nothing else. Nan was a task to eat, tough and rubbery. £34 for 2 runny curries, a Nan and 4 popadons NOT including rice (we made our own instead of paying £4.25) Yeah a big anticlimax to what we are used to locally. But at least we tried, but 1 definitely to cross off the list!

All the food was absolutely delicious. Staff were friendly, and even gave our baby an extra dip. Very accommodating even with a buggy and a small loud child!

The best South Indian cuisine I've had so far in the UK. Had dosa (for dinner , yes dinner that's how much i missed south Indian food)and the sambar and chutney were so fresh, simply outstanding. Their beef curry and lamb curry were on spot. We loved the food so much that we decided to order a portion of mutton biryani and that was killer too 😍. A must visit place. Can't wait to go back there to satisfy my south Indian cravings . They let you carry your own beer.

Ordered a few times here, each time gave them feedback, they didn’t take it on board so I am reviewing here. The veg rolls are mostly filled with potatoes, whilst a good portion I wouldn't order it again. They do the dum biryani variety, personally not my favourite type of biryani, its a shame I only realised it was Dum after the food was delivered. Kothu parotta is like a heap of mushy goo, you cant tell the parotta from other ingredients. My kottu parotta was over salted and way too spicy, I enjoy spice but this was clearly overdone without instruction to make it extra spicy. Boxes aren’t filled and the food is never received on time. The Allepey fish curry was delicious, truly flavourful, ordered it a few times. Also, questionable black spots on the food sometimes, it is not burned mustard seeds, possible usage of old/damaged pans.

i had fish pakora, hyderabad chicken briyani, with extra spicy ordered lastweek. it was really delicious. especially, the fronthouse staff who delivered greatly and suggested me well to order the delicious food.

My first time having Indian breakfast and it was SO GOOD. This place right around the corner from me and I feel blessed to have in my neighborhood. Everything was delicious and the coffee and chai were perfect for a chilly morning. Highly recommend.

What started as an exiting St Patrick’s day soon turned into a nightmarish vision of Jack woltz waking up with a horses head on his pillow…the curry kings paid homage to St Patrick’s day by cracking one open early doors. The soft ground at Cheltenham put to rest any dreams of paying off the mortgage and settling in Gabon. The curry kings do not let such things put a dampener on “life” (please gamble responsibility). An invitation to a fellow curry king who had been grafting and missed the over exuberance during the day paved the way for brighter future. Let’s put all our chips in and back the banker “the Chennai”, the one that could not be beat, the nap of the day ….sadly my curry lovers it was yet again another a curry pie in the face. We don’t mind paying over the odds for quality but were left with a saddle full of dung. In last place - poppadum - soggier than the ground at Cheltenham. The dark horse - the chicken nilgiri was like going face down in the slop. The kerala - sauce was lovely but the lamb was as if red rum had been resurrected from the grave and put on a hot plate. The karikudi sauce was very tasty but the chicken was a non runner. This may feel like a negative post, however coming from the Chennai stables which has had multiple winners over the years the punters expected more for the price. A total mare.

One of my new favourite spots for takeout. So much flavour and some really exciting dishes that I haven't seen elsewhere (e.g. the deep-fried cauliflower or the lamb rolls), just be ready for spice!!! Also, great vegan dishes that are well sign-posted on the menu. Excited to check-out their place in Dalry too!

Very good food with good quality and quantity, love it..

This place is head and shoulders above every other takeaway in the area. The food is always cooked to perfection with incredible flavour. I'm also amazed at how the food is 10 out of 10 every time, usually even good takeaways have bad days, but not Chennai's Marina! Please don't ever change!

Three of us went to eat-in for the first time on Saturday evening. The food was amazing with the aroma and flavours perfect. I had the chicken in the bone biryani and will be back :)

Ordered takeaway. Definitely South Indian flavours, not the usual UK Indian. Real curry leaves were used, which gives the South Indian dishes it's authentic aroma and flavour. Parotta was proper flaky, price a bit steep though. Kerala beef fry was spicy, with real coconut slices, just like in you'd get in Kerala. Tamil Nadu lamb Biriyani was real tasty, good quantity, may be could have a few more pieces of meat. Kotthu parotta was a bit too wet for my liking, but tasted good nevertheless. Definitely will be trying more dishes from here.

We really enjoyed the delicious curries, bread, and starters. If you like your Indian food full of flavour you must try here.

Tried Amritsari shahi paneer in Dalry branch, and it is one of the best I have tasted. A must try🙂

After waiting for more than half an hour, this is the food I got, the quantity is very less for the price they are offering, its not even the half of the container which they give. I would never recommend anyone else this shop. The other store in Dalry offer better quantity and quality. I bought two curry’s and its very disappointing.

Read the reviews and decided to give it a try. We went to the one at 192 Dalry Road and were given a time frame of 35 minutes. I know I am comparing it with my usual takeaway and chefs have their own recipes and different variations on foods. We arrived and waited, 55 minutes and we were back in the car and on our way home. Slightly disappointed. Vegetable pakora was rock hard, a bit like eating mega thick crisps. There was no sauce to soften it up and not even a lettuce leaf in sight. That’s a never again from both of us. Pilau rice was nice and fragrant Jaffna prawn curry - It was extremely runny, yes a gravy but only a handful of Costco’s king prawns for £12.95. Best bit was it added a bit of sauce to the rock hard pakora. My son had the Hyderabadi lamb masala and pilau rice and he enjoyed it. The chilli coriander Nan bread was nice and spicy. Would I go back….. Definitely no.

Hi, I tried the recent festival menu foods in dine in branch , the food was really good especially the Kili/kizhi parotta was top notch. I wish to try all the dishes over there... Thank you Chennai's Marina for making my belly as well as myself with full of joy!!!

This is a review of the Dalry branch of Chennai’s Marina. This is a small restaurant which offers the most authentic and tastiest Indian food I have found in Edinburgh, with a focus on South Indian, Keralan and Sri Lankan dishes. And the staff are lovely too. Hugely recommended, give it a try!

Just had a large order from here, was very impressed. A slightly different taste to the other Indian takeaways in the area, but really nice. The Devil Chicken starter was amazing. Will definitely be ordering from here again.

Foods fine, the problem with this place is delivery. Its completely and utterly unnaceptable. The website quoted 1 hour. I phoned after 1 and a half hours, was told 10-15 mins. I phoned again 30 mins later. Food arrived over two hours after i ordered. Its a 5-7 minute drive. It doesnt matter what day, its always the same. Today is a wednesday. Shocking

Now food quality is very poor compared to last year. Definitely use unhealthy stuff to prepare the food.

I don't want to add much. This was by far the best Indian I have ever had. I've never been to India myself but I reckon this is what an authentic meal at your grandmas would taste like.

Well, walked in yesterday for a casual dine out. We really enjoyed the food as we ordered a plate of plain idly, One Gobi Manchurian, one Lamb biriyani and one masala Dosa. We liked the taste and servings of those. Vishal was very helpful too and had a wee little chat. The food was authentic, warm, tasty and flavourful and I stayed all South Indian states since 2000 so Chennai style biriyani n Dosa were spot on. Gobi n idly were really good and we enjoyed them. Areas to improve: 1. Service , please really look into this area as the service was slow and I can make out Vishal is doing his best but may be kitchen is small and got overwhelmed by so many patrons. The sitting place is little cramped too. Yesterday was a houseful and patrons were waiting almost an hour to get a parcel. 2.Table service : Not all table has the full cutleries and tissue, salt n pepper 3. Cleaning of rest room and fill up soap dispenser and keep it dry n tidy. I would have given 3.75 overall but no options for that in Google review so 4 is to encourage the good work. We will ocassionally come back.

The food here is superb. Really tasty, with the spices never overpowering the taste. The service isn't quick, but when the food is this good, it really doesn't matter. And the prices are good too!

Who wouldn't want to eat some perfectly made idlis, dosa annd kerala parotta with AR Rahman playing in the background - absolutely adore this place

Amazing food. Loved their chicken lollipop and chicken chetined. Parota also really good. Good Quantity. Authentic Chennai taste.

I ordered 3 lamb biryani and chicken Manchuria and chicken kuttu...this okay but lamb biryani was no good tasteless And biryani rice this is not biryani rice your using normal rice.... And you charged too much money please use proper biryani rice.....

Finally, a place to get a superb Masala Dosa in Edinburgh !!! Really enjoyed my meal, well done.

Absolutely authentic South Indian. A hidden jewel found in the midst of Edinburgh. Genuine hospitality, good portion sizes and reasonably priced. If in doubt what to eat just ask the staff. We even had payasum for dessert.

If you want a tasty Indian cuisine then, Chennai's marina is the destination. #must try biryani

Ordered takeaway for a family gathering from here recently. I had the Kerala lamb curry. The flavours were fresh, spicy and punchy, not overly dominated by an excess of heat. Seems to be a good selection of South Indian and Sri Lankan dishes on offer with a very broad range of vegetarian dishes. Loved it.

I had very bad experience from the take away. I was a customer for long and I never expected such a bad customer service from the restaurant. I raised complaint regarding the quantity of lamb in lamb biriyani. It was only 2 pieces in 3 of the boxes out of four and the chicken wasn't fresh. I used to get brinjal curry with these all but I haven't received one. The manager phoned and i never received a proper explanation or any follow up. It was a huge waste of money as we pay more than 10 for just the biriyani rice. Very disappointed

Quantity and quality of the chicken biryani was very poor. Even we raised complaint, the response from the team was not satisfied.

I was a very satisfied regular customer at Chennai marina. But, I got a really bad experience with my last order. I ordered chicken biriyani and the quality of the chicken was not good and the complimentary sides was also missing. I called them about the same and they are randomly saying some reasons to justify them. As a customer I am very disappointed with their behaviour as they didn’t call me back and not satisfied as I didn’t get any fair solution.

Bad Experience. Have issues with the quantity of the food. I ordered lamb biriyani and the quantity of lamb is very low. Also, the complimentary sides were not there. When I raised complaint, I didnt get any proper answer as they told that manger will call and didnt recieve any call yet.

I'm going to leave an especially long review, because Wow, this is a a food destination, and greedy husband says it's the best takeaway he's had in the USA *and* since coming to the UK. Well deserved of the awards won. Our photos don't do it justice (the photos are after we plundered our first meal) First off, it's great value, the pricing is perfect. Great quality ingredients, portions very good, and you can taste the quality and care gone into it. Secondly, the guy delivered to us in Morrison's carpark, and a service with a smile. The taste was sensational. We have eaten Sri Lankan and South Indian regional dishes before, however many on this menu we had not tried and it bested the ones we already had. We also ordered their regular tempered daal, you can judge a chef by his basic daal dish and this did not disappoint. Before tasting the food, we opened up the lids and knew by the smell and natural colour we were in for a treat. The chicken nilgirl was rich and so bright in flavour with green chillis, mint, balanced by cashew and coconut, it was our fave curry, the Gongura Mammsam had deep slow cooked flavour, plenty of heat, the mutton was so tender and cooked with sorrel, something we had never tried before. We also had the Hyderabadi biryani, generous portion and the best biryani we have ever tasted, so often they are disappointing and lazily cooked. This was whole pieces of chicken, whole spices, cooked the traditional way. We also ordered the chicken kothu, again traditionally made, their parrotta is to die for, butter, layered and an almost croissant like flat bread. Lastly holla at my boy, CURD RICE, this was the perfect companion to the rich spicing of each dish, was a beautiful texture and refreshing flavour that acted as a cooling pallette cleanser in-between tastes of other dishes. It's a must have alongside the pokey delicious curries. We are so glad to have found this gem, but so sad we don't live in Edinburgh and can eat here every week. It's ok tho, we still have hefty leftovers. Well-done guys. We love you.

Delicious mouthwatering South Indian chennai based food. Mutton Biryani is must to have. Chicken 65 is a delicious starter. I am sure I will try every dish by visiting again.

The lamb rolls were a revelation. Outstanding food and lovely people when you collect in person. Our second time ordering here and we'll be back over and over again until we've had the whole menu.

This is my second time eating here since they opened (or reopened?) last week and the food is incredible. The garlic naan bread is delicious and the two dishes that I tried were outstanding. The food is fresh, the combination of spices are spectacular and the presentation is superb. I will certainly come back to try another of the many dishes that they offer.
