Awful customer service, do not recommend. Very rude and un-accommodating for small groups, they obviously have a strong preference over large groups.

We visit about every 2 weeks and the service and food are second to none. We visited last on the Saturday before Christmas and even though the restaurant was very busy the food and service was superb. We would highly recommend this restaurant.

Gobsmacked! Ordered 2x king prawn sag balti and 3 chapatis. Normally would expect to pay £25-£30 at our regular haunt which is also on the vicinity close to Sutton park. This meal cost £43+ as a takeaway. (The Baltis were £19.95 each) I did a double take & checked the menu. I would have walked out & ordered elsewhere but didn’t want to make a scene. Then I noticed a waiter walk past me with something wrapped in wrinkly tin foil - suspiciously looking like a chapati. I wanted to be wrong. I wasn’t. When I got home inside the foil was another layer of yes you guessed it “chapatis” - 4 dry, thick and more like flat breads. Needless to say we didn’t eat them. The curry not much better I’m afraid. Tasteless lacking seasoning and the king prawns were either over cooked or microwaved. Not the best takeaway experience we’ve ever had. Shan’t be returning. Very disappointing meal.

Yet again another stunning meal at Chennai. If you haven't tried it, it is really is a must. We really love our currys handi sytle, they not only look amazing but taste divine.The restaurant is set up into small booths so is very Covid safe.Amazing food, amazing staff ....a must !!!

Well this was a spontaneous visit which I was greeted by the owners to have a seat in a very COVID safe environment with all measures applied with seating around panels which made me feel safe from start to finish. The chicken tikka masala was the best curry I have ever had in all my years it tasted gorgeous. I will certainly be back again for another curry as this was superb thanks again Chennai look forward to seeing you again.

I booked a table for 6 people for 6pm a week in advance for my birthday.However, at 5:15pm on the evening of the meal, I had a call to say they had a booking for 7:30 and do they think we would all have finished by then. I told them that I wasn’t informed at the time of booking that there was a time limit , if I had I’d have booked elsewhere.Having been here on many occasions, the food didn’t disappoint. It was flavoursome and we all enjoyed it. The tables are set up really well with screens around each one to deal with covid which was another reason for me booking as there were two nurses with us.We ordered a jug of tap water and were served a large glass each with berries and a sprig of mint. Another glass for each of us was sent to our table during our meal which we didn’t need but we thought they were just being hospitable and keeping us hydrated.However, when the bill came, we realised that we had been charged 50p per glass!We didn’t dispute it because we’d had a lovely meal in a safe environment, but I do think it’s something people should be aware of as I’ve never been charged for tap water before- and it definitely was tap water.I’m very aware of businesses needing to survive in these difficult times, but perhaps bringing tap water to your table when it hasn’t been ordered and then charging you for it is a bit cheeky.I’d definitely return for a meal as the food is worth it.

Having gotten engaged on the final day of our holiday the evening before, we decided to visit Chennai when we returned home to celebrate.Booking a table over the phone was effortless and we were warmly welcomed when we arrived. Seeing that we had a bottle of champagne (you bring your own alcohol), our wine glasses were quickly switched for flutes. The menu selection is fantastic with a range of dishes to suit all tastes. Having eaten at Chennai before we knew exactly what we wanted, but we did overhear the staff giving other tables helpful suggestions and guidance when asked. Each course arrived promptly, and we were offered the option of having a break between courses if we wanted. The food was very well presented and tasted fantastic - tender, juicy meat and flavoursome sauces. Even before they knew we were celebrating, the staff were friendly, courteous and made sure we were happy, settled and enjoying our meal. The Covid-19 social distancing measures were all present and a great reassurance. Sturdy screens have been installed between tables, the staff were wearing face masks and gloves, and single-use paper menus with a box for track & trace details were also provided. Every part of the evening from the food to the service was exceptional, and a perfect way to round off our celebrations. We'll without a doubt continue to be regular customers at Chennai!

First time to visit here and I have to say we will go again the food was amazing in fact we all agreed it was up there with the best curry that we have had service was great and we was made to feel welcome and for a Monday night it was busy definitely worth a visit my now favourite Indian

So we booked a table for last night (Friday 11th) and turned up looking forward to a nice meal. On arrival the person we were dealing with advised the table was not available as they had given it to someone else!They offered the option to wait an hour or sit on a table which would definitely have been against covid rules! The attitude of the person was poor and he didn't even really seem that bothered. Very poor customer service.There was also a table of 12 crammed into the window seating area.... is this even allowed?Will not be returning to this restaurant.

With some good mates we were staying at the corporate barn otherwise known as the Belfry (brilliant golf though!) when we popped into this little family run eatery for some spice! Really appealing menu options took to me to the best prawn puri I have had- wonderful clean flavours- through one of the many specials which was a Bangladeshi "pot" cooked lamb curry with shredded onion and ginger garnish, which was simply brilliant, fun and an authentic main that I loved and have not seen elsewhere. The prices were reasonable and we could bring our own wine (no corkage). The staff made a real effort and the banter was polite and genuine and we felt like we were being treated to a great experience, which we were.All round memorable evening, thanks guys!

We were so impressed when we visited the Chennai after it reopened after lockdown. The steps they have taken to make it covid19 safe are the best we have seen. Each table is partitioned so you feel completely safe and all members of staff were wearing visers.As for the food, it was the usual standard ...exceptional. you just can't beat one of their currys handi style. it was such a delight to go back to this restaurant to eat in again....so good in fact we have booked in again this weekA 5* rating for a 5* restaurantJulie & John

We usually eat in for meals here and always have a great time. The food is wonderful, anything you ask for is never a problem. Always a warm, friendly welcome by everyone.We have recently been having takeaways since the lockdown and again the food has been excellent.We visited the restaurant this week after finding out it has now opened up for dining. It's one of the safest places we have visited. There are screens around each table, sanitiser available, the menus are covid friendly. All of the staff are very careful and make you feel that every effort has been made to make everything safe for customers and staff alike. The food is of the usual high and tasty standard. Thank you to all at Chennai for everything.

We were in Birmingham visiting and chennai was recommended to us, we were not disappointed the meal was excellent and as an nhs worker their covid screening was spot on. Each table is in its own bubble and we felt very safe.

Ordered a curry from here tonight from Uber Eats which never arrived. The driver couldn't find our house, despite no one ever in 10 years having this issue. Apparently he waited outside our house for 22 minutes. He didn't as a) he couldn't find it and b) we were in the front room the whole timeAnyway, Chennai were great about it and it wasn't their fault. I re ordred from them directly, it was ready in 20 mins and it was a really lovely curry. We have had deliveries from here before and each time the food has been great.Thanks for sorting so quickly and hope to visit the restaurant soon when safe to do so

Regular visitors to Chennai and look forward to going back once Covid allows! We ordered various meals for a birthday last night and were not dis-appointed! Lovely, flavoursome food and a few freebies thrown in! Can’t wait to return and would highly recommend!!

I have just ordered an NHS free meal and another meal. Absolutely outstanding. Chef Abdul served the food, adhering to social distancing. He was friendly and the service was prompt. We will definitely be ordering again, and once lockdown is lifted, we will visit the restaurant. Thank you Chennai for feeding the NHS fantastic quality food.

Ordered a collection order, went to pick it up, greeted by a lovely gent, very polite, food was boxed and ready for us. Food was great! 3 of us with very full bellies here! Thanks guys!

Sadly, I felt that I needed to create an account and subsequently write a review purely after today's experience - which is rare. We ordered at 5pm, agreed a 7pm pick up time, and my order was read back to me - all good. Issues experienced:- Arrived at 6:55, paid and then proceeded to wait outside the restaurant for 40 minutes whist many other customers came and went.- Told every 5 minutes that it was a few minutes away. When clearly, they had forgotten the order. - When the order was ready, and we eventually got home, various things were wrong. There was a curry missing, there was no garlic naan, and one of the curries was wrong and extra hot. Obviously in these difficult times, it's expected that things don't go quite run as smoothly. If someone had simply apologised and admitted they had forgotten the order, it would have been completely understandable. Instead, we were left waiting cluelessly. However, when we rang to tell them that they missed a dish, this was delivered fairly quickly, to which we were grateful. This is the reason this review isn't 1 star.

The team at the Chennai are providing free meal for NHS staff. The food is excellent and they are providing a take away service. Thanks guys for all your support to NHS workers and the excellent quality of food

Chennai has amazing food and friendly staff !!We just wanted to say how friendly the staff were , especially at the time of this virus crisis ! The food was amazing , it was our first time buying from Chennai and we will definitely be returning soon !!

Only had two takeaways - first about a year ago was unremarkable to be honest but used them again recently and the food was fantastic. They have enough great reviews so I'll keep it short. Well worth trying if you haven't (I normally go to another highly rated takeaway in Streetly but it is closed on sundays so re-tried the Channai) so glad i did it was impressive - only criticism is that they don't deliver!

The tables are crammed in (feels like you're part of the adjoining table !!), tight to get in/out of seat, difficult for waiters to serve without leaning all over you. Service overall poor - had to ask for menus, had to ask for glasses, plate cleared before finished popadoms. Exception was the person who took our order who was engaging. Food is expensive 80p for a popadom, plus £2.80 for the chutney tray, Murghi Massala £12.95 (versus £7.95 at nearby The Lodge, Shenstone). Also automatically add 50p per person 'corkage' charge for disposing of your empty bottles although this was removed when we said we'd take them away. Saving grace is the food itself which was excellent but it doesn't make up for the rest of the experience which was disappointing. Perhaps it was an off night but its still cramped and expensive.

Been a couple of times before and never been disappointed. Service was once again outstanding and meal was excellent. Lovely surprise after meal with a complementary birthday cake large sparkler and candles. Will no doubt return.... is well worth a visit.

We have been here a few times now and often get takeaways. The food is always outstanding, we have never had a bad meal. It was my son’s birthday today and they made a real fuss of him. He had a cake with a huge sparkler candle and a banner. We go with two young children and we always feel relaxed here. The staff are friendly with the children and always do the magic trick with them! Very cute. Highly recommend.

From the moment we walked in staff were very attentive. We we were served a starter which was compliments from the chef. The food and service was amazing. My 8 year old thoroughly enjoyed his heart shaped curry (presentation second to none). The meal was finished with a magic trick given by one of the waiters. Will definitely visit again. A real gem.

Staff are incredibly attentive, food was excellent and restaurant was clean and well kept. It was pretty busy when we went so would advise to book a table.

Booked here for a Saturday night meal and shown to our table once we had got past the queue for takeaways. Decor pleasant but service awful. We had to ask 3 times for someone to take our order after sitting waiting for an hour. It appears that only one waiter can use the Ipad to take orders. Tables around us also had long waits for their meals and bills with one commenting "we really need our bill now, we have asked 3 times". Our meal was booked for 1930 and food arrvied at 2125. The food was nothing special with more sauce than substance. So really disappointed having travelled over from Tamworth

A group of us went after a busy night on and off stage at a local theatre. The restaurant was happy to accommodate us for a late meal. We booked in advance and chose and pre-ordered our meals. This helped them prep the food as much as possible and speed up the service but the food, as always, was freshly cooked and delicious. Many thanks to Paul and Abdul and their team of chefs and waiters. It was a great evening! I’m back there again on Tuesday (lucky me!) and I know the rest of the group will be back again one day too. A fabulous restaurant!

Went with a few work colleagues whilst staying in the area when visiting the NEC. Wasn’t aware they didn’t serve alcohol but you can bring your own. Menu has all the usual dishes but quite a few different ones. Everyone really enjoyed their meals, good value and if I’m back in the area again I will definitely visit.

Fantastic food and service even as a large group. We booked a large table at Chennai as it is one of my mums favourite restaurants. We were well looked after and my mum was made to feel very special on her birthday. 4 generations of family and all well looked after, excellent place to take very young children too. Always good food and service and we will be back soon!

A very authentic experience. Staff are amazing. Such a warm atmosphere. We shared a very tasty meat platter after amazing papadums and lime pickle. I had a lamb pasanda and it was so tender. And of course my favourite naan bread the peswari. The rest of the group all enjoyed the food and are all planning the next visit. Thanks guys.

First time visit with my brother and his family who recommended this place. Everything was great. Balti chicken with Naan was excellent. Abdul served us , was very friendly and knowledgeable. It’s BYO wine too which is great.

We visited Chennai at the weekend with our friends. We were given free appetisers and ordered starters and main courses plus poppadums and naans. The food, which you can see being cooked in the open kitchen, was fantastic and the service was friendly and efficient. The whole restaurant is spotlessly clean and thoroughly deserves its 5 star hygiene rating. Highly recommended.

Chennai hosted our group of 13 for an annual cycle club meal - I don't think any of us had been before but will certainly be back. Fantastic and friendly service and the food was delicious.

Recently moved to the area and tried Chennai for the first time, we were not disappointed. The service was excellent from start to finish. We ate here on a quiet Wednesday night. We were offered a complimentary taster to start followed by poppadoms with all the different pickles etc. The menu was quite extensive with traditional choices and some house specialities. It is not licenced so we took our own. The tap water was provided with fruit and ice which was very nice. The main courses were exceptional followed by a complimentary sweet and mints. The price was very good for the level of service and standard of food so this will be our new local.

Ordered a take away, online. It was delicious and plentiful. We even got an extra allo chat starter. The tandoori mixed grill was so big it did for lunch the next day too. The staff are very friendly and polite.

Me and my girlfriend attended Chennai for a Indian this evening. We thoroughly enjoyed the food and the presentation of the food was fantastic. The service was excellent, all members of staff made an effort to talk to us and ensure we were enjoying our evening. The added touches such as a little bag of chocolate at the end and all the fruit in the water was a lovely touch. Thank you Abdul and team for a wonderful evening - we will be back!

Can honestly say best food we’ve had in a long time, we find it so hard

Had high expectations given the reviews. However, the food is average at best unfortunately. Between a party of three we tried a few meat based dishes and some vegetarian options. None of them seemed especially authentic and the vegetarian thali was decidedly expensive at around £16 with some fairly nondescript bowls of food. The service is however rather good

Used Chennai for our club's team supper. Lovely food and very good value. Vegetarian, lamb & chicken options with rice and naan + poppadoms to start. Would happily use again.

Visited on a week day in October 19. - The food and service was superb, would certainly highly recommend this restaurant.

Phoned restaurant at 7.00pm on a Saturday evening to see if they could fit us in at around 8.30pm, pleasently surprised that they could.

The guys at Chennai are so helpful and can make any dish to suit your appetite. They helped us choose dishes and gave us new dishes to sample. The whole experience was brilliant. This restaurant also does excellent charitable work and helps disadvantaged young people.

Another stunning meal at Chennai in Four Oaks. Abdul recommended the Roshni Fish curry, not on the menu but absolutely devine. As always the service was amazing...can't wait to come back to try out another of Abduls recommendations.

We took my son for a suprise dinner at Chennai, one of his favourite restaurants, to celebrate his 20th Birthday. The food was excellent as usual and Abdul really looked after us making it a very special occasion with Birthday banners at the table and an amazing chocolate cake to finish the meal.

Passed this restaurant so many times and last night decided to try it....what a surprise it was amazing,not very big but the atmosphere was great and the staff were very attentive but the food was fantastic especially the lamb which melted in the mouth. You can take your own alcohol no corkage fee,the only slight down side is they don’t do puddings however the portions are very big so we had no room. All in all a very pleasant meal I would recommend the Chennai to everyone

Well as always lovely warm welcome. Food and service fantastic and I must say the dish that we tried which is soon to be added to the menu (Roshni) I will definitely have this meal again. Can’t wait to go back 👍🤩

This restaurant is small but has a lovely atmosphere and the staff are so nice and helpful. Recently I was holding a family celebration at home, so I contacted Chennai because we have had numerous takeaways and always thoroughly enjoyed the food. I spoke to Paul as I wanted to order some India starters, for my own event. He couldn't have been more helpful (as I know I as pretty sketchy about my requirements). They sorted me out superb, we agreed the price, date and time I would collect and my family were delighted. The fish pakora was devine, along with the Shami and Sheek kebabs. Needless to say everyone went home complaining that they had eaten too much. To Paul and the chef at Chennai, thank you, you made a special family event extra special, the food was delicious and the extra's you provided spicy pappadam's, chilli sauce and salads were wonderful. Will be seeing you soon to sample more of your cuisine.

Went here a couple of weeks ago. Searching for a new venue to meet up with friends for a curry. Based on the excellent reviews, we booked into Chennai. We were not disappointed ! Excellent quality food with lots of lovely service touches throughout the meal e.g. fruit for dessert - no cost. Abdul is an excellent host and staff were very attentive without being over zealous. Bit of a tardis inside as the restaurant seating goes back quite a way. All dishes were very flavoursome. One of our party asked for a slight reduction in the chilli content and this was faithfully observed by the chef. Warm and friendly atmosphere. Will undoubtedly return !

Me and a friend came for a celebratory results day meal, the service was outstanding, we were served by ihfaz who was very attentive in ensuring our meal and experience was PERFECT! 100% would recommend to anyone, whether it’s a quick takeaway or a lovely evening out.

Visited this authentic restaurant and loved every bit. The food was so nice that it reminded me of "back home style cooking". The waiters were attentive but not intrusive. The decor was beautiful. What amazing food. My husband struggles to get a curry that is hot enough, after explaining this and ordering his Naga curry vindaloo hot, he was delighted when they brought him a complimentary sauce phaal hot which turned out to be just perfect. The best he has ever had and we eat currys every week.

We recently asked Chennai (Abdul) to cater for a small gathering we were having with 25 guests. Abdul provided an excellent package (selection of curries, starters, rice, poppadom and Naan breads) and everything was devoured! Our guests all complimented us on the wonderful food provided by Chennai. We will definitely ask them again as it saved us the hassle of cooking and the value for money was exceptional.

This restaurant is just wonderful the food fantastic but what makes it such a good restaurant is the staff they genuinely want to make your evening special Abdul you and your team are a delight certainly worth the 50 mile drive from Shrewsbury

It’s been open for a couple of years now and have been meaning to come here for a while.

Keep seeing great reviews for this place and thought I would try again for a takeaway. Whilst the staff are very friendly and offer good service I find the food nothing special and there are loads of better alternatives in the area.

Top night out, on one of the hottest nights of the year the staff pulled out all the stops with chilled fruit water and more salads added to curry dishes, always happy to oblige with any changes to orders too. The lamb in my main was succulent and tender, and so was everyone else's dishes as high a standard.

Abdul and co were extremely attentive. They made our visit so enjoyable, with fruity water, excellent service, complementary starters, delicious food and a birthday cake bought by Abdul himself. We highly recommend. Big thumbs up!

Came here for two friends' birthdays and the staff, Abdul was our main waiter, and they were all really friendly and pushed the boat out. They went and bought a cake and presented it at the end, and gave us free sweets and fruit at the end. Food was really nice. Overall well worth a visit!

What an idiot the last reviewer is. One of the reasons I eat here is that they have a 5 star hygiene rating, this means that when the environmental health officer inspected this restaurant they were very happy with the cleanliness and systems in place. We have eaten takeaway from here many times but tonight was the first time in the restaurant. The welcome did not disappoint it was excellent the staff were very friendly and attentive the only thing to surpass it was the food itself just as we would hope. The Chennai lamb shank was extremely flavoursome and beautifully tender. The Chennai annanas chicken was succulent and full of flavour. The facilities were very clean and being able to see the kitchen is always a good sign as is the 5 star hygiene rating from the EHO. All in all a lovely evening meal and good value.

We visited on Sunday 14th. Food was nice .. service was good... and even though I had ordered something I didn't like. They kindly changed it free of charge... but it was very much like eating in India... (we have been several times).... but unlike India you cant just pop next door to a pharmacy to pick up diarrhoea tablets! If you know what I mean.... both the wife and I have had this for two days now... they need to sort out their hygiene!
