We went to the restaraunt for Sunday lunch on 3rd June, we will never return- the food was disgusting. If it had not been for the fact that we had pre-paid with a Groupon offer we would have left even before seeing the food. We queued to be seated but the waitress did not explain the format. It turned out that they served the first coarse then the second coarse was carvery although this was not clear from the Groupon voucher. All the staff were flustered and kept saying that they were very busy, this was no excuse as most of the diners were on a pre-booked Groupon voucher. The starters were a dior excuse for food, one of our guests had vegetable soup which was just mashed cabbage with no flavour, two of us had two srivelled up stalks of asparagus and I had one slice of black pudding on top of a small dried up volovent case. Worst was to come - the carvery was disgusting- dried up turkey roll, reasonable beef uncooked gammon which the young chef tried to convince us was cooked even after several more experienced cooks on our side of the counter complained. The overcooked vegetables were swimming in half on inch of water, a medley of root vegetables some being undercooked others overcooked, cold cauliflower cheese and enormous overcooked Yorkshire puddings.

Lucy Evans and all other bar, reception and cleaning staff were helpful and friendly and went above and beyond to ensure our stay was comfortable and enjoyable for a family event. The bed was lovely as was the shower and breakfast too

Saturday, 18th May 2024, 1 night. Due to refurbishment, restaurant was closed, so no evening meal or breakfast for us. The room was tidy, clean, and recently decorated. However, the bed was the most uncomfortable I've ever experienced. Although we were expecting a double, it was only 4ft wide and very short. The fitted bottom sheet was too small and kept riding up off the mattress corners. Definitely not worth the £75 per night we were charged.
