Lovely little place. We had a mid week visit for some food and wine. Service was friendly and at a nice pace. Wine recommendations were good and suited our taste. Menu nice with just enough variation, choice was good, we had croquettes and fondue. A bit different t and a nice atmosphere for a chill night together. All in all it was good, it met our expectations but didn’t exceed them. We will be back to try their lunch menu though

Visited in a Sunday lunch time and really enjoyed the food and a good bottle of wine. Chorizo croquettes were delicious, baked cheese and a platter of meat served with figs, pickles, crackers and bread were all very tasty. Not cheap but we did order a generous amount of food to share

Food was bang average considering the price of it. Service didn’t exist at all. Waited an age to get our drinks and food, ideal place if you want to take up 3 hours of your time on 4 courses when the restaurant had 3 tables in. Not once checked in on to see how we were doing or if we wanted any drinks etc. absolutely abysmal customer service. Won’t be recommending to anyone to be honest

Booked a table of 6 for the set taster menu. An extra member joined who didn’t want the taster menu but the restaurant insisted that we pay for it anyway, in addition to the extra food they ordered instead! Service was poor and definitely did not come with a smile. The food is basically just glorified ham and cheese and expensive at that for the amount you get. Other items from the menu were also disappointing. Soggy patatas bravas, undercooked padron peppers and the croquettes are not much better than those you can get in the supermarket freezer section. Don’t waste your money.

Came here for an impromptu meal after 6 nations rugby. Was full but they told us to come back in half an hour which we did and although still busy we got a good table. We shared one of the delicious fondues with a meat platter and some peppers and all 3 of us had plenty and thoroughly enjoyed it. Nice glass of wine too! Staff weren’t overly attentive upstairs however it was very busy so understandable. Not overly pricey either. Recommend it and thank you for a great evening.

Came for dinner last Saturday and what an experience it was, loved every single part of it. Food was amazing and even the young chef came out to have a little chat with us, asking if this was our first time at Chegos, he welcome us to the place and it was just nice to have a chat with the chef hats of to him, he is a treasure to the business.

Loved our visit. We found this place by chance and were glad we did :) we had grilled vegetable sandwiches, patatas bravas and focaccia. The staff were very attentive and always ready to help. Would definitely recommend.

Visited on a Tues just before Christmas. This was my third visit since they opened and it feels like the novelty is wearing off and service is slipping each time I visit. This time Our server was disinterested and didn’t smile through the entire evening. The wine glasses which white wine was poured into had red white dry stains in the bottom and when we raised it with the server she didn’t seem to care, we had to ask for new glasses and then for wine to go in them (we hadn’t drunk any of the wine in the less than clean ones)! No-one apologised or acknowledged the issue at all. I don’t think I’ll be back until they’ve sorted out a better more engaged service team. The food is fun but nothing exciting so the service has to be top notch.

This is a great addition to Newbury, loved the great value wines and cheese fondue was great. Staff welcoming. My only comment would be that the music was very quiet and didn’t add much to the atmosphere and they were also playing radio adverts or something? However unfortunately just after we had paid the bill we saw something we wish we hadn’t.. the “chef” who was strutting around the restaurant then went to stand behind the bar and started picking his nose before returning to the kitchen. I can only hope he washed his hands…

Visited mid-Nov as liked the idea of nice wine with cheese/meats. We shared a fab fondue and a charcuterie board with some croquettes. The food was really lovely, great portions and delicious. Set up is a bit weird and the team need to work on the furniture layout . Wine choice was great but the wait staff don’t know enough about wine for this to be a ‘wine venue’ - especially as most wines are not available by the glass! I think we would come back as it had a good ambiance and the fondue was delish!

Lovely sunny garden with plenty of seating and shade. Excellent varied menu from which I chose the smoked salmon and then a ribeye steak. My partner had pigeon and then monk fish all of which arrived piping hot and was very tasty - we cleared our plates! Definitely would recommend this pub both for a drink and for food. The garden is lovely, they are dog friendly and the interior has had a stylish makeover which makes sitting inside a pleasure

The staff are rude. I ordered my coffee and it wasn’t what I expected. I asked for it to be made a certain way. Considering I visit almost daily, I was familiar with the staff. One lady who works there knows how to make the coffee the way I like it. When I requested she make my coffee (like she had previously instructed me to do) I got scoffed at. Then the next day I got confronted by another worker ,who was not present, berate me to the point of tears. Ever since, I have had numeral staff be cold or confrontational. This has made me both sad and disappointed. I will not be going back

The staff here are what make this place special and one we return to again and again. There is a very warm and comfortable seating arrangement downstairs. The pepper steak and traditional pasties are delicious and we enjoy their coffee too. Thank you!
