Very friendly cook, very rude bloke on the till. Clearly didn’t want to serve customers. Sat on his phone playing videos out loud. Hugely inconvenienced by the presence of customers, questions about the adjoining shop. Perhaps not best suited to customer service. Lovely vegan cheese toastie, mind!

Place looks lovely, but probably the worst hygiene and service I've ever experienced! Cap wearing bearded man gave me a bottle of lemonade that was filthy. When I asked him to change it, he wiped it with his hands and put it back in the fridge, before handing me another! The plate my food was served on had clearly not been washed: the underside was caked in someone else's food! When I showed it to the cap wearing bearded man, his reply was to shrug saying " What do you want ME to do about it". I replied that an apology would be a start and his reply as he walked off was "Well I didn't serve it to you". I asked him for his name; he continued to walk away growling "It's none of your business"! The girl at the cafe was very sweet, despite the way he growled at her. From the reviews it would appear that none of this is a one off incident. I would definitely avoid this place!

Sandwiches are thicker sliced than your average sliced loaf. Tuna & sweetcorn was the choice and was a decent filling (no skinny measures). Chose the brown seeded bread; fresh with superb taste. Latte was choice of drunk and that was spot on too. Highly recommended 5⭐️

We called in for a snack. My freshly-prepared sandwich was well-presented, well-filled and very tasty. My wife had a cream tea as there were Gluten Free scones; a rare occurrence. Her meal was also very tasty. The staff were also very friendly and helpful and there's seating inside, in a tastefully decorated room, and outside on the side of the river. Worth dropping into.

Came here August last year and had a beautiful little cheese platter, with a peaceful wholesome atmosphere. Came back last week to be met with a rude cashier. We came in to no greeting or acknowledgement. When my partner said excuse me, the guy said ‘yeah’ without even looking up. We then asked for a menu (which they had last year) and the guy gestured to the chalk boards on the desk and said ‘we don’t have menus, that’s it’. We decided to go elsewhere after this interaction as all four of us felt he wasn’t very nice. A real shame because this place was beautiful last year and we were really looking forward to it. Hopefully it was just an off day, but not really a very respectful way to treat anyone, let alone customers.

We stopped here for a quick bite while visiting Cheddar and enjoyed their tomato and cheese toasted sandwich and scone served with cheddar cheese. They serve all items with a generous helping of cheddar cheese when specified and it is good and crumbly. They have some good dessert items, coffee and cold drinks here too. They offer indoor and outdoor seating. The only downside is that the nearby toilet (outside the restaurant) does not have running water to wash hands but thankfully they have some sanitizer to help with that. They have a small souvenir shop with cheddar cheese and food items that go with cheese and some other knick knacks. The parking nearby is limited so we would almost suggest going to Cheddar early or be prepared to walk a little bit.

Waiter was rude and seemed like he’d rather be anywhere else than serve us. Didn’t talk to us at all. Asked if they were serving food and was met with a ‘are you serious look’ and no real answer. So I ordered two toasties. He finally spoke and muttered ‘drinks?’ I said 2 teas and a coke and he said ‘hang on. Ham and cheese- white or brown?’. Finally got through taking our order and told us to take a seat (1 of only 6 tables) and it would be bought over to us. He then stood at the till texting for 10 minutes before serving another guy who also ordered tea- this obviously reminded him of our order because half way through making his tea, he started making ours. Bought it over without a word and dumped it on the table (with only 1 plate for 2 mugs) Not to mention we had to clear our own table because there was a tray of cups on it from the previous customers. There are only 6 tables inside and all are visible by the 2 staff stood chatting behind the till. Had to hand it to them to which I was met with no ‘thank you’ or ‘sorry’ just an eye roll and he wandered off with it. When the food came, one toastie was really nice with a lot of filling; the other (ham and cheese) looked very sad with a few grey pieces of ham inside. The ham was so grey I thought they got it wrong and put beef in there instead. Toasties were served with a very small salad and a few salted tortillas. No real menu in sight, just a load of small chalk boards cluttering the till space. Young girl serving seemed nice and smiled at everyone but the other guy hardly spoke, looked like he didn’t want to be there and the only time he smiled was when he sat at the table behind us and was texting. No one checked in on us while eating. And we left immediately after finishing our meal. Guy watched us go so we said ‘thank you’ to which he didn’t respond and just went back to standing behind the till. After being recommended this place from a local cake store, we expected more. Won’t be coming back. Put a dampener on the rest of our visit for sure.

Stopped for an impromptu lunch. Guy taking orders clearly couldn’t give much of a damn but the Food was good and served by a nice lady. Drinks were forgotten and we had to remind them of our order. No toilets. Rather unceremoniously directed to public loos which were dirty, didn’t have locking doors and had no working handwash facilities. Wouldn’t go again unless they get their own, clean, facilities. Rather naively I thought food establishments had to provide toilet facilities for customers. Seems not in Somerset…. Shame really as the ploughman’s really was rather good.

We stopped at Chedder on the way home from Butlins, and my son and daughter wanted to buy a pasty. The man who served us had zero idea how to say please or thank you, and just barked the price at us. When my eldest daughter bought some cheese he just said '£5!' He picked his teeth as he served her before rolling a cigarette on the counter. As he walked out of the shop he pushed into my daughter without so much as a sorry. My daughter, who is disabled as she dislocates her joints was lucky to stay upright. She said "excuse me!" Quite loudly and he didn't even respond! As for the two steak pasties, my son had 3 small pieces of meat in his, and my daughter swears there was none at all in hers! The lady behind the counter actually looked embarrassed. The setting looks lovely, but customer service doesn't exist, and I would never go in there again

A table outside by the path and the stream that has forged the gorge allows time to savour the food and strike up conversations. We met a lovely local lady at the next table who took our photo, advised on restaurants and plced. A couple passing by from Bath stopped to chat and the guy who served us told us his inspiring recovery story after an accident. A tea and coffee shop as a place to meet people - the pandemic might be diminishing in its impact at last! The warm, fresh from the oven, scones were divine - we had clotted cream and strawberry jam with a pot of tea and a mug of coffee. All excellent. Afterwards we bought cheese and cider in the shop - great place to combine retailing, talking and eating. All at leisure watching the world go by. Bit of a burning ambition to have cheddar cheese in Cheddar, so I spent a bit of time choosing this cafe. It looked cheddar cheese coloured from the outside, fresh and cosy on the inside. There's a delicatessen type shop attached to the cafe, although I only came in for lunch. Lots of cake options to tempt you and I ordered the Coconut & Raspberry slice to go with a Cheese Toasty and Latte. On the day, it was pretty busy and cafe seems to be understaffed, so it did take about 15 minutes for everything to come out. The toasty was the main thing I wanted and it was pretty good. The cheese wasn't fully melted like I prefer, but that's just me. Other than that, it was was nice. The staff were pleasant and friendly.
