Lovely old fashioned tea room in interesting building in centre of Truro. Great views over city and cathedral. Visited for special treat of high tea. Sandwiches, cakes, scones, cream and jam. All very freshly made and delicious. Staff friendly and helpful. Only one thing could have improved our experience. A pot of tea was included as part of our high tea. This was delivered to the table quickly and we waited for our food to be freshly prepared. By the time the food arrived, we had drunk most of the tea and the cup that was left was no longer fresh. At £19 per head, it would have been nice to have had unlimited tea offered. Having said that, it was very good and we will return.

place looked grubby with totally miserable staff, we arrived around 325pm and the disdain on staff faces like we were an inconvenience, I did not know at the this time they closed at 4pm. We were looking forward to a nice Cornish cream tea, the food was ok, cutlery needed a polish and lady with short grey hair and jeans was so miserable and kept looking at us as if we were keeping her, we rushed our food and drink and were out in 30 mins, terrible experience and would not recommend, they give hospitality and Cornwall a bad name to the people who pay good money to experience an afternoon tea. I also would think any establishment would have "trays" for clearing tables, fingers in glasses was just so tacky. This could be such a nice place if they employed the right people and cleared out the deadwood!!

Today, we went to this tea shop, supposedly as a treat, instead we left bullied and insulted after receiving no service at all. After slogging up two steep flights of stairs we waited 25mins but the tea never came. On arrival we weren’t greeted so assuming we should we eventually seated ourselves. We waited ten minutes at a table under the waiter’s nose but he continued to ignore us. There are only about six or seven tables in total in a smallish room. After eight minutes I asked for a menu and the waiter said he ‘hadn’t seen us’! Although wanting and needing to eat, we decided on just a pot of tea as the service was terribly slow and the food was unexpectedly expensive. After ordering we waited another ten minutes before asking if our tea would be much longer - on receiving a sarcastic eye roll (from the blond waitress featured on their Facebook page) we were told it was just coming!. After another six minutes and we slowly got up to leave, the red headed waiter then ‘noticed’ us and asked if we would be returning, we answered ‘no’ and SHOCKINGLY he saw fit to shout across the room to myself and my 80 year old husband “well that’s good!” (I can attest to these timings as I am diabetic and have a ‘window’ when I must eat). SHAMEFUL! I wonder if the staff would have bullied younger people the way they did us? I very much doubt it.

The tea rooms are beautifully decorated with gorgeous chandeliers. The tea was served in beautiful china cups and saucers and my Victoria sponge was delicious though sadly the cream was mock cream. I would have given Charlotte's five star rating had the staff been less gruff. I know it was busy but a little patience goes a long way!

Have visited many times. Standards this time have deteriorated. Had a cream tea. Scones were dry and hard. When I pointed out to waitress, that perhaps they were yesterdays, she replied "possibly". Still charged full price. Mentioned to manager on way out. Sorry about that was the only response. Plenty of tea rooms, so will be moving on in future.

What a terrible experience. The place smelt musty, the place a cutlery were grubby, and the grey haired waiter was just ignorant. He treated us as a inconvenience. Unfortunately, a bad experience. The younger waiter was so pleasant and helpful though. The tea, coffee, and scones were nothing to write home about. I have purchased better at high street chain outlets. If you want a Faulty Towers experience go here. If not save yourself the disappointment.

Went with family on recommendation, was expecting quaint tearooms. Was very cramped and stayed. Female waiting staff pleasant. Tea and coffee ok. Premier sandwich had what appeared to be spread instead of butter! Ultimate sacrilege is reheating a scone. Either warm straight from oven or cold. Warming them generally means they were made previous day or so and heated to hide this.

Was here for what was meant to be a nice lunch with my sister, but it soon escalated into my worst nightmare- poor service and bad quality soup. When I attempted to pay with my Scottish £20 note the young waiter exclaimed “you can’t use that” in a narky manner. I then asked to see the manager and another waitress asked if they could help but could not reach a manager. I left displeased and upset- so much for a United Kingdom!

It's in a Victorian building at the end of the main street, on the first floor, atop a Pizza Express and enclosed by a secondhand bookshop (books with a local connection). It is filled with Victorian decor and furniture, and mature waitresses dressed as traditional "nippies" (but logging our orders via a struggling wifi). There was a good selection of traditional English tea-shop lunches, such as crab sandwiches, eggs royale and "Charlotte's brunch" (which my wife had). Reasonably priced, at £52 for the four.

Luckily we bumped into the chef and he helped us with our luggage. The staff are very welcoming and wear traditional maids uniform. We were given a wonderful table in the window with windows on 3 sides so we could overlook truro - perfect. My daughter ordered a cream tea and they let her swap the tea for diet coke and I had diet coke and gluten free chocolate brownie with clotted cream. The scones were soft and warm albeit a bit crumbly. £8.50 which is about the going rate at the moment but you actually got 2 scones and everyone else gives you just one. One plain and one with fruit. When we came to pay my daughter wanted to be traditional and put the tip on the table. I opted to pay by card and the waitress seemed a bit miffed that I did not add a tip - she will find it when she cleared the table! After several failed attempts the the card machine kept failing and we paid cash. The food was lovely as were the staff. The high tea wasn’t great but their soups , salad, omelettes and sandwiches were so perfect. Aromatic coffee. We were so full but still wanted to try their cake. Although at the time they did not have an arrangement for take-out, the staff did manage to pack the worlds best carrot and walnut cake for us. It was so tasty and moist that I regret ordering just a slice. Reasonably priced .

Very attractive traditional tearoom upstairs in the Coinage Hall, with fine views out across the wide bit of Boscawen Street, effectively the centre of Truro. Good tea and cakes. Prompt service.

In an old building in the centre of the town, it oozes atmosphere even before you mount the stairs past the secondhand bookshop. Uniformed waitstaff take your order, and there is no rush and bustle. We we lucky enough to get a table near a window and enjoyed the outlook while waiting for our lunch. A very pleasant experience.

The tea room is set in a great old building and the room is set out like something I’ve never seen before 1930’s/1940’s I’m guessing the staff are dressed to match, it was very busy first thing which gave us time to take in the experience. There is a window seat which allows you to view out on to the town and the tops of the old buildings around, coffees and hot hot chocolates were spot on will definitely visit again next time we are in town

This is a fabulous place to eat - it feels like going back in time! up some stairs, past a lovely old-fashioned second-hand bookshop, and up to the top with a Victorian feel and waitresses in proper costume. The food is really good and the service friendly and swift. I think the prices are good too! I've had Eggs Benedict, a lovely Bacon sandwich, and Cheese scones - all scrumptious. We don't feel a visit to Truro is complete without coming here - but it does get full so time your visit carefully!

Every time I visit Charlotte's tea room, trip advisor asks for my review and every time I say, brilliant. Consistently good food and service will have me coming back again and again and bringing my friends and family with me to experience my view of a perfect tea room

First the good things: the taste of the scones, clotted cream, jam, tea and salmon sandwich was excellent. Definately among the better ones I've come across. But:*we ordered cream tea, our daughter high tea. Her order was completely forgotten. Ok, can happen but still...*the portion of clotted cream and jam was really small. When we compared with other tables, we (2 persons) received a portion that a single person got on another table. So we had to ration the cream and jam. I was able to cream 1 scone, my wife 1,5 scone. And we did not lay it thick. *when we did ask for a little bit more jam and/or cream , the waiter smacked the jam down on our table. Hello politeness? All in all... Coul have been a great experience but ended up a big disappointement.

We visited here in the second week of June and had the same experience as the previous review. The building is stunningly beautiful but this Tea room doesn't deserve to have any customers. We arrived at 4.30 to be greeted not with a Hello but...We are closing soon, the kitchen is closed and no food available .....We ordered tea and 2 cheese scones which had been thrown in the microwave to warm them and were rubbery and tasteless. The tea was pleasant but at about 4.55 a waitress came and took everything off the table as they were closing. As I was paying, not a "how was everything" but Just tl-d me what the amount was. Gentleman sitting behind the counter who may have been the owner didn't seem to care. Wouldn't recommend to anyone - giving a 2 stars is probably quite generous. Such a shame as the setting is superb and the room very welcoming. It's this sort of place that gives a bad name to the industry for service. And yes - I happen to know what I am talking about as I own a Tearoom in another part of the country.....

Visited this tea room at 4.35pm today and was told by one member of staff that we could order refreshments and cake until 4.45pm. We placed our order immediately with another abrupt member of staff who refused to serve cake as we were too late and cakes had been put away. Contradiction. Perhaps they may think again about providing a service to the local population whom they surely must rely on during the winter months.

We love it here. Both the savoury cream tea ( with smoked salmon and cream cheese) and the standard Cornish cream tea are delectable. Best we’ve had in Cornwall. Also do other delicious food and cakes. Well worth a visit. Service is good. Not cheap but well worth what you pay. Recommended.
